Trabalho e cultura em agências de publicidade do Brasil: novas perspectivas / Work and culture in advertising agencies in Brazil analyzed from the perspective of organizational sustainability

Daniela Ferreira de Oliveira 04 November 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate the work and culture in Brazilian advertising agencies, from the perspective of organizational sustainability. This perspective recommends that companies consider their employees as an important public with which they must maintain ethical, fair and transparent relations. Besides, advertising agencies, which are the corpus of this research, present organizational and labor vices, which were observed during nine years of experience as a researcher in the Brazilian advertising market. The main questions arising from this previous participant observation revolve around the factors that lead, influence, maintain or legitimize such vices. More specifically, it focuses on is the big advertising agencies known as \"crystals\" of the advertising market - in sales, customers, awards etc. - It appears that they serve as an example to other agencies - small and medium - as well as companies in other sectors of the Brazilian advertising industry, as producers and suppliers. Regardless of the variety influences that weave the social reality of working in large agencies, refers to the interdisciplinary approach to get the composition of the theoretical framework that considers the contributions of the communication studies, organizational culture and sustainability; as the historical sociology, anthropology, psychology of work and anthropological management. Thus, there is the complex paradigm shown in this scientific study. To fulfill the objective of research, it is through the identification and analysis of cultural nuances and organizational practices and professionals in advertising agencies, from exploratory social survey conducted in São Paulo between May 2012 and May 2014, with visits to six major agencies, to the Advertisers Union of São Paulo and has 36 participants from different profiles and positions. The plurality of sampling consists of two criteria: progressive inclusion and randomness. Participants contribute in-depth interviews unstructured and semi-structured questionnaire and fill in Likert scales, technical and selected instrument to achieve the objective of the research. From the correlation between inventory aspects of culture and work in large agencies, it is possible to perform analyzes that reveal how is the work ethos of the national advertising production. Many aspects analyzed diverge from the notion of organizational sustainability. In this context, the primary role of organizational communication is discussed: how to capture and to interpret dissonant aspects of sustainable principles, to enable managers making decisions directed to a cultural (re)weave that considers work as a sustainable value

Sustentabilidade e Gestão de Pessoas: evidências do setor bancário brasileiro / Sustainability and people management: evidences of the Brazilian banking industry

Nayele Macini 14 October 2015 (has links)
All areas of organization depends largely on the action of the people. Therefore, if the organization\'s purpose is to be sustainable, it must provide the alignment between the guidelines of sustainability and its initiatives. One of the challenges of people management is to manage organizations in relation to their human and social, natural and economic resources, involving organizational sustainability to their area of expertise. The Brazilian banking industry presents a great economic and financial power, so it has the capacity to invest in actions covering the social and environmental spheres. Balance investments for the three aspects of sustainability tripod is part of the changes suggested by the Sustainable HRM (Human Resources Management). In order to identify if the people management of the Brazilian banking sector is aligned with organizational sustainability strategies, analyzing their Sustainable HSM initiatives, it was developed a descriptive analysis, qualitative and quantitative, based on content analysis and analysis of the data triangulation information involving: the annual reports or sustainability of banks, labor judgments finalized in 2014 of the Regional Labor Court of the 2nd Region of São Paulo, and information of the Brazilian Federation of Banks and the Union of Banking and Financiários of São Paulo, Osasco and Region. Among the Management subsystems analyzed people, the area of Recruitment and Selection, System Pay and Reward and Performance Management and Evaluation, are in need of more detailed reporting of the banks. Among the judgments analyzed, the most recurrent rates were complaints relating to overtime, and then compensation for bullying. Requests for occupational diseases had low rates, with improvements in the sector ahead to these issues. Banks in general have not reached the level to integrate and extremely embed the guidelines in each of the aspects of the triple bottom line, with Itaú Unibanco the bank presented in more detail their actions. Although interest in Sustainable HSM, which aggregates organizational sustainability to people management subsystems, have been recurrent, more research was needed to shape and develop a guide of practical implications, clearly and objectively to be followed by organizations. Through the soft systemic methodology (SSM), an action framework was developed, aiming to provide both strategic and operational support to the Brazilian banking sector, so that organizational sustainability is deployed in their actions. In this sense, this research has added value for advancing the exploration of this gap in the literature as well as in the design category of the subsystems of Personnel Management. Finally, the research provided theoretical reflections as the Sustainable HSM and the analysis of the actions and initiatives of the Brazilian banking industry has identified the current situation of the sector with regard to organizational sustainability.

The development of a conceptual test facility : A case study

Snickars, Anna, Särnblad, Eric January 2022 (has links)
Background There exist an external demand forcing the manufacturing industry to increase their sustainable practice. For manufacturing companies to stay competitive it is necessary for them to transform their organization and operation to be more sustainably responsive. To meet the external demand for sustainable practice in the manufacturing industry, companies need to find new innovative solutions for their production processes.  Implementing new process innovations in production processes can be an uncertain task for companies to manage. To reduce the uncertainty, it is important to experiment with different solutions before implementation. To conduct experiments in an efficient and safe way, companies can use the tool simulation to validate process innovations before implementation.  There exist different simulation methods a company can use. Physical simulations are used when a company have production processes that cannot be simulated through a computer. Physical simulations are conducted in test facilities where companies can analyze material behavior in a laboratory scale production process.  Research questions RQ1: What need exists for test facilities in manufacturing companies?  RQ2: What benefits can be obtained using test facilities?  Aim A1: Identify stakeholder needs and based on these needs develop a conceptual test facility adapted to the case company.  Method To answer the research questions and fulfill the aim of the study, a literature review and a case study was conducted. The literature review explored the need and benefits of conducting physical simulations in test facilities when implementing new innovations in production processes to meet the demand for sustainability.  The case study was conducted at Volvo Construction Equipment in Hallsberg where the need to implement a test facility for their chemical production process was explored together with the benefits such a facility might contribute with. The case study also entailed information with stakeholder’s need for the development of a conceptual test facility to fulfill to the aim of the thesis.  Findings The findings suggest that there exists a need for implementing test facilities in manufacturing companies with chemical production processes. To transform production processes to meet external demands, companies must experiment with new innovations before implementation. A test facility could increase the efficiency when transforming and improving chemical production processes as well as strengthen the knowledge within the company for organizational development.  Furthermore, findings contributed with the development of a conceptual test facility adapted to the case company’s chemical production process. This facility was constructed increase the company’s ability for conducting quality and development test of their current state production process.

Successfully Implementing Environmental Sustainability Strategies : Important affecting and enabling factors / Framgångsrik implementering av miljöstrategier

Carlsson, Esther, Sandberg, Malvina January 2021 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this research is to investigate how organizations successfully can implement sustainability strategies. To fulfill the purpose, three research questions were established: What factors are important to consider when implementing environmental sustainability strategies? How do these factors affect the implementation of an environmental sustainability strategy? How can these factors enable a successful implementation of sustainability strategies? Method – To achieve the purpose of this study, a case study has been conducted at an organization where empirical data has been collected through interviews, observations, and document analyses. Further, a literature review was carried out to establish a theoretical framework. The empirical data and theoretical framework have been compared and analyzed in order to answer the research questions and fulfill the purpose. Findings – The findings provided six important factors in the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies: organizational structure, organizational culture, internal communication, management control, leadership, and employee motivation. The factors affect the implementation by hindering and facilitating alignment, common understanding, efficient communication, employee involvement and motivation. Further, the factors can enable a successful implementation by creating a mutual understanding of the strategy's vision and goals and establishing an organizational alignment in relation to the strategy. Last, the research indicates that a holistic consideration of these factors is needed. Implications – The research did not contribute to new theories, however, it provided increased knowledge on various factors that affect and enable environmental sustainability strategy implementation. Further, the research suggests that the factors should be considered holistically and simultaneously to achieve organizational alignment and mutual understanding. Limitations – The study is a single case study where one organization has been explored and a limited number of interviews have been conducted. The credibility of the study is believed to have increased further if multiple organizations had been studied with more interviews.

The influence of flourishing, job crafting and emotional intelligence on job performance within a South African Pharmaceutical company

Ramsay, Nicola January 2019 (has links)
Magister Commercii (Industrial Psychology) - MCom(IPS) / In the 21st century the nature of work and life has become characterized by unavoidable changes. These changes are brought about by various environmental, social and technological developments or unforeseen occurrences. It has become more challenging for economies, countries and organizations to bounce back from these volatile fluctuations in all markets and industries (Martine & Alves, 2015). Examples of the above-mentioned changes is emphasized by Wales (2013) who identified that trends such as climate change, globalization and social inequality have created a significant challenge to the traditional business model. The “credit crunch”, corporate scandals and possible corruption have led to a loss of trust in business, and companies are facing pressures from governments, consumers, employees and investors to demonstrate that they are adopting ethical and sustainable business practices (Pfeffer, 2015). Similarly, Martine and Alves (2015) question whether the economy, society and environment in the 21st century are indeed the three pillars of sustainability. These factors highlight the importance of critically discussing factors surrounding economic growth and the sustainability thereof.

Effective Leadership Strategies, Employee Performance, and Organizational Sustainability in the Boxing Industry

Ali, Rita 01 January 2018 (has links)
Ineffective leadership impedes employee performance and threatens organizational sustainability, causing U.S. businesses to spend billions of dollars addressing such issues. Correspondingly, boxing promotion companies are challenged as some leaders lack strategies to improve employee performance. This single case study was focused on leadership strategies utilized in the boxing promotion industry to improve employee performance. Transformational and charismatic leadership theories were the conceptual framework for this study. The data consisted of semistructured interviews with 8 participants from 1 organization (4 leaders and 4 subordinates), as well as document review of company training materials. The 6-step model for thematic analysis coding procedure was used for data analysis. Five themes/strategies emerged: leading by example, inspiring/fostering teamwork, honest communication, people-driven actions, innovative/adaptive organizational change, and providing rewards were each associated with effective transactional leadership for increasing performance and sustainability. The consensus among participants was that effective leadership is a significant factor in improving employee performance, maintaining constructive leader-subordinate relationships, and increasing organizational sustainability. The social change implications include community economic enhancement. When organizational performance, as well as local economies and communities have the potential to thrive, local spending and use of community resources may also increase to stimulate local economies.

Pratiques cliniques en psychiatrie et pratiques de gestion, cliniques interstitielles d'une psychiatrie dissidente / Clinical practices in psychiatry and management practices, interstitial clinics of a dissident psychiatry

Panchaud, Raymond 19 November 2018 (has links)
The economic difficulties affecting social protection systems, the evolution of public policies under the affirmation of the principles of the new public management, and the evolution of medical and nursing knowledge pose major threats to the survival of many health establishments or at least to the continuation of their original project. This thesis addresses the issue of sustainability factors in health organizations. It is based on the longitudinal case study of a private psychiatric establishment founded in 1943 which is responsible for public psychiatry in the eastern sector of the Canton of Vaud, while it practices a policy of care which refers to psychoanalysis, against the current references in psychiatry which are rather neurosciences and cognitive-behavioural treatments (CBT). Following the principles of the clinical approach, a global approach of the organization is realized to understand the dynamics of the functioning of this institution and its particular make-together. In this perspective, the analysis focuses on everyday practices, both from the point of view of care (clinical practices) and management (management practices), also taking into account the historical dimension of the institution but also of the environment and psychiatry. 3 inter-related elements emerge from this analysis as the basis of the sustainability of this establishment in a recursive dynamic:- an affirmed philosophy of care rooted in humanist values,- the homology between clinical and management practices,- Interstitial management, i.e. the spaces of autonomy of the actors that are set up outside any structure and hierarchical and are based on relationships of trust. These 3 elements constitute the outline of an organizational model of sustainability that will have to be tested on a larger scale.

Nonprofit Sustainability: How Does Departure of a Founding Leader Impact Outcomes?

McIndoo, Lauren 01 January 2017 (has links)
There is a high failure rate among local community-based nonprofit human service organizations in New York State, which may lead to service gaps in communities. Increasing sustainability may reduce these gaps and allow nonprofits to continue following the first leadership transition. Using McGregor's human resource theory as the guide, the purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the relationship between leadership succession planning and how departure of founding leaders impacts the sustainability of nonprofits. Data were collected through interviews with 16 leaders that included departing founding leaders, successors, and 2 board members in 4 local community-based nonprofit human service organizations in New York State, regarding the impact of the founder's departure on (a) leadership, (b) motivation, (c) teamwork, (d) power balance, (e) work environment, and (f) organizational change. Interview data were inductively coded and analyzed using a thematic analysis procedure. The results yielded 4 thematic elements that contributed to successful outcomes: (a) strengthening accountability to balance power, (b) individual versus collaborative leadership to increase shared governance, (c) assessing and developing competencies to efficiently use human resources, and (d) ability to conceptualize change and plan for the future. The results of this research study may help to contribute to positive social change by offering the leaders of local community-based nonprofit human service organizations strategies to sustain their organizational culture during and following their first leadership transition, involving the departure of the founder, allowing the organizations to continue to contribute positively to the community.
