Bourgeois, Line 04 1900 (has links)
This research focuses on how nine men recall their adaptation trajectory to their spouses’ ovarian cancer. The qualitative analysis made use of the grounded theory approach; semistructured interviews were conducted with husbands accompanying their spouses during their treatments in an ultra-specialized unit for gynaecological cancers in a Montreal hospital. Our results show that after the initial shock initiated by the announcement, the respondents develop a set of strategies, first to protect their wives and themselves, and then to attack the illness. Accompanying their wives through the experience of cancer proves to be, for the husbands, a transformative experience at all levels: personal, conjugal, and social. The perceived efficacy of the health network and its preoccupation with the husband’s caretaker role may explain the sharp contrast we observe between results from the literature, insisting on the husbands’ helplessness in such a context, and our data, which underline their fighting spirit. Other factors identified are the strength of the conjugal link, forged in common ordeals, personality traits of both husbands and wives, and support from their personal network. Concerning nursing practice, this research suggests that the importance and the support given by the health professionals to the family caregivers is of utmost importance for the couple’s quality of life throughout this experience. Besides, the coordination of the health professionals, throughout the women’s illness, is crucial in diminishing the anxiety linked to the cancer diagnosis. The duplication of such a study in other cancer care units would allow a finer analysis of the impact the health network can have on the adaptation of both spouses to illness.

Perceptions of illicit drug use and risky sexual behaviour among first year psychology students at the University of the Western Cape

Fick, Sonia January 2011 (has links)

HIV poses considerable social and health challenges in South Africa, particularly among young people aged 15-24. Research indicates a strong link between risky sexual behaviour and alcohol and illicit drugs. In the Western Cape drug-related behaviours is a growing concern among young people because of relatively high prevalence rates of drug abuse, particularly methamphetamine. Previous South African studies have tended to focused on the link between substance use and risky sexual behaviour among commercial sex workers. The theoretical approach of this study is the information motivation behavioural skills model. Participants were selected using non-probability sampling of 279 first year students registered for Psychology I at the University of the Western Cape. This study employed a quantitative research approach using a survey design. Results: Forty-six percent of students do not believe that the use of illicit drugs has an impact on a person&rsquo / s sexual behavior. However, the findings also showed that only 45% of students believed that there was a difference between illicit drug users correctly using condoms when compared to non-users. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Conclusion: Prevention is our best and most effective means of decreasing risk-taking behaviours associated with HIV infection. Information is the first line of intervention that is necessary to reduce risk-taking behaviours / however prevention strategies and interventions of risk-taking behaviours should aim to increase motivation and help young people integrate information in a way that it is personally relatable. This is vital to address the inconsistencies between perceptions of risk and the realities of risk-taking behaviour.

Rusu, Natalia 12 1900 (has links)
Proteins are the most versatile macromolecules of the cell. They play a fundamental role in the majority of biological processes through the formation of multiprotein complexes. During transcription, a multitude of factors are involved in the control of activity of RNA polymerases. Our laboratory was interested in defining the nuclear RNA polymerases transcription machinery interaction network to better understand their regulatory mechanisms. To do so, a proteomic procedure that allows affinity purification of protein complexes coupled to mass spectrometry and computational data analysis was developed. The tandem affinity purification procedure has been adapted for the purification of soluble protein complexes as they likely exist in live mammalian cells. The aim of my master project was to purify the RNA Pol I complex as well as to further pursue the expansion of the protein-protein interaction network of the human RNA Pol II transcription machinery. By using POLR1E, TWISTNB, POLR2E, PFDN4, MBD2, XPA, CAND1 and PDCD5 TAP – tagged proteins expressed in EcR-293 cell lines, multiple soluble protein complexes were purified and analyzed by mass spectrometry. Protein interactions have been sorted and validated computationally. High-confidence dataset of interactions were used to build the protein-protein interaction networks. The network created for this project connects several components of the transcriptional machinery such as RNA Pol I, II and III, RPAP3/R2TP/prefoldin-like, TRiC/CTC, Mi-2/NuRD complexes and DNA repair and transcription factors. This type of analysis allowed us to identify and characterize new regulators of RNA Pol I and II transcription machinery and to better understand its functioning.

Socialinio dialogo ir socialinės partnerystės vaidmuo psichikos sveikatos priežiūros sistemoje / The role of social dialogue and social partnership in mental health care system

Seliutienė, Kristina 23 June 2014 (has links)
SOCIALINIO DIALOGO IR SOCIALINĖS PARTNERYSTĖS VAIDMUO PSICHIKOS SVEIKATOS PRIEŽIŪROS SISTEMOJE. Santrauka. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / THE ROLE OF SOCIAL DIALOGUE AND SOCIAL PARTNERSHIP IN MENTAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. Summary. With changes in societal and technical processes, the role of Social dialogue and social partnership in the Information society, have increased in all areas. This issue is crucial while talking about mental health care system. System is loosing its autonomy and is determined by interactions of different levels. Multiple social relations are integrated. Social dialogue in mental health care services include all types of negotiation, coordination, mediation and consultation, starting with the exchange of information. Social dialogue has proved particularly important in situations of structural change and reform in the health sector. Such situations are particularly complex, however, and take a long time to evolve. They involve a wide variety of social partners and stakeholders who have to deal with a long agenda of issues. Insufficient or bad cooperation and coordination between services; single-sector approaches and specific organizational objectives, budgets and activities, leads to ineffective and low quality care services. Thesis. Social dialogue and social partnership becomes a component of modern society. The problems of the mental health care system are solving by using new methods and forms, such as networks of social partners, interdisciplinary team work, capacity-building of NGO and representatives of services users and their families. Keywords. Social dialogue, social... [to full text]

The non-transferability of the shares in limited liability company

GHIONNI CRIVELLI VISCONTI, PAOLO 13 April 2010 (has links)
2469, comma 2°, c.c. / The study concerns the non-transferability of the shares in limited liability company. The research analyses at first, from the empirical point of view, the different existing clauses of non-transferability in reality. The heterogeneity of the found conventions places the problem to verify which of them are referable to the legal case of non-transferability ex art. 2469, comma 2°, c.c. The thesis deems that the legal relevant non-transferability is only that absolute, distinguishing the prohibition of transfer inter vivos from that mortis causa. In this second case, in fact, it does not subsist some requirement of associates protection; it needs, instead, to see the heirs reasons, who are prevented to became member of the company, as happens in partnerships. At last, is analyzed the non-transferability to differentiated application and that relative one, as not re-entering directly within application of the art. 2469, comma 2°, c.c.

After the Act : narratives of display and the significance of civil partnership

Temple-Malt, Emma Jane January 2014 (has links)
Civil Partnership is significant because its availability indicates that social attitudes about sexual minorities have altered dramatically over the past two decades (Weeks 2007: 3, Shipman and Smart 2007). At one time, social attitudes labelled people’s attractions to persons of the same sex as ‘abnormal’, and resulting same-sex relationships were expected to be invisible and conducted in private (Plummer 1975, Weeks 1977, Rich 1980). These expectations have changed, to such an extent, that it is now rather common to view same-sex and opposite-sex relationships as the ‘same’ and equally worthy of recognition and rights (Weeks 2007, Heaphy et al. 2013).This project explored what (if any) impact inhabiting this contemporary socio-cultural and historical climate is having on the everyday lives of sexual minorities. Finch’s (2007) concept of ‘display’ was employed as a conceptual lens to explore the ‘narratives’ that 42 civil partners aged 30 to 65 told about displaying their non-heterosexual orientation and same-sex relationship in encounters with others. I argued that if these more liberal attitudes had impacted on their lives it should be discernible from the personal stories they told about the interactions they had with one of six different audiences (e.g. self, couple, family, friends, acquaintances and strangers).Three main findings and arguments were formed from my analysis of these civil partners’ narratives. First, despite the remarkable changes in social attitudes towards sexual minorities, the stories my interviewees told illustrated that there is a generational difference in terms of the impact that these more liberal attitudes have been able to have on the ways that they display their non-heterosexual orientation and relationship. Essentially, these social attitudes have noticeably influenced the lives that younger generations are able to lead. Second, my use of ‘display’ as a conceptual lens to examine interviewees’ narratives has illuminated how the stigmatizing spotlight attached to non-heterosexual orientation and same-sex relationships has diminished over time. This was signalled by how narrators approached the display of their non-heterosexual orientation and their same-sex relationship. Third, ‘display’ as a conceptual lens has been significant for illuminating the challenges and negotiations involved in displaying a civil partnership and, I argued, is able to offer a more nuanced understanding of the continuing salience of the heterosexual assumption in an ‘era of equality’.

Rodiny homosexuálních partnerů / The Families of the Homosexual Partners

EMROVÁ, Monika January 2009 (has links)
The present diploma thesis explores the issue of families made up by homosexual partners. The reasons for choosing such subjekt were based on my focus on this area. The goal of the thesis was to compare opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people collected from two groups, a group of heterosexuals and a group of homosexuals. The following hypothesis was postulated at the beinning of the survey: There are signifiant discrepancies between opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood according to sexual orientation retrieved from groups of heterosexuals and homosexuals. The surveyed contingent comprised of two respondent groups. The homosexuals were included in the first one, the heterosexuals were entered into the second one. The first group included those female and male homosexuals who in one way or another keep in touch with the South-Bohemian Lambda. The second group comprised of female and male heterosexuals. A respondent from the latter group had to match a respondent from the former one in three given criteria (sex, age, and education). The survey objectives were achieved by way of asking questions. Doing so questionnaires were employed as the essentials tool. The hypothesis was confirmed. The outcome showed that heterosexuals and homosexuals have different opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people. The results accomplished and published in this thesis are available for further studies and researches in this area and they can be used in teaching. The present thesis may also give feedback to the South-Bohemian Lambda which might find the survey´s findings very intersting.

Zouggar, Salah 07 December 2009 (has links)
Abstract
