José Lins do Rego: tipos em transição / José Lins do Rego: types in transition

Villaça, Davi Lopes 12 May 2017 (has links)
This thesis consists in a comparative analysis of some novels by José Lins do Rego, with emphasis on those written after the Sugar Cane Cycle (the series of his five first books, linked by storyline and usually related by their memorialist and documental content). The main point is to study, in the later narratives the generically called independent works the aspects that allows us to read them as many approaches of a common drama, which the writer pursues and portraits by different angles. Promoting a dialogue among those books, focused on the constitution of each protagonist, I hope to discuss the complex relation that such characters develop, if not literally with the past, then with some kind of memory that they, by natural inclination, seem fated to bear, often preventing them to feel connected to the present and determining their conflict with the surrounding reality.

Le Cahier 46 de Marcel Proust : transcription et interprétation / Marcel Proust’s Cahier 46 – Transcription and Interpretation

André, Julie 19 May 2009 (has links)
The Cahier 46 of Marcel Proust is one of the key exercise books to understand the growth of A la recherche du temps perdu. Proust wrote this exercise book mainly between 1914 and 1915. As such, it makes the transition from the novel as it had been planned by Proust before the First World War to the novel as it has been actually published after the war. Our study is based on a complete transcription of this exercise book [volume II] and proposes a literary criticism of it [volume I]. More precisely, the aim of the thesis is to show this exercise book is one of the focal points of the deep framework changes in A la recherche du temps perdu during the war: the former three volumes of the novel become a large novel mainly because of the metamorphosis of Albertine’s character. Within Cahier 46, Albertine’s character takes a twofold feature. Firstly, this character becomes one of the main characters of the novel. Secondly, the role of Albertine dramatically changes. Cahier 46 makes it possible to understand how the story which was still before 1914 only the one of a boy who falls in love with a girl becomes the one of a tragic story of love, continuously written and rewritten by Proust: a story about death, suspicion, culpability, Gomorrah and homosexuality. First, this study presents general principles and precise analyses about how Proust wrote, that is to say Proust’s practice of manuscripts. It then shows how the introduction of Albertine’s character results in deep changes in the framework of the novel after 1913. Finally, all these elements allow us to focus on a literary interpretation of these metamorphoses.

This dissertation has as its main subject of investigation the official commemorations of the Biennium of the Colonization and Immigration that took place in Rio Grande do Sul in 1974 and 1975. Promoted by the State government, these commemorations were motivated by the upcoming 150th anniversary of the German Immigration and the 100th anniversary of the Italian Immigration. The initial goal of these celebrations was to honor the different immigrant groups who contributed to the ethnic composition of the State. However, during the commemorative process, the tributes were extended to include homage to native and Afro-descendent Brazilians, thus, changing the initial official discourse. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to make explicit how the government of Rio Grande do Sul used the immigrant past of the State during the commemorations of the Biennium of the Colonization and Immigration. To this end, the analysis of the commemorative process is constructed in three periods: 1) The organization of the celebrations. We analyzed the decree instituting the festivities, which determined actions to be taken during the commemorative process and the official ceremony opening the celebrations in the presence of the State government authorities. We also investigated the formation of the Tribute Commissions, composed by individuals authorized by the government, who were also responsible for the creation of the Commemorative Programs of their respective ethnic groups. Also, we mapped the municipalities participating in the festivities, and quantified and qualified the celebratory acts promoted in face of the dismembering of the Official Program. 2) The commemorations honoring the Luso-Brazilian pioneering, the 150th anniversary of German immigration, and the 100th anniversary of Italian immigration. By analyzing the reenactment of the arrival of German and Italian immigrants having as spectator President Ernesto Geisel, the promotion of events and creation of institutions incentivizing the studies of the immigrant history in the State, and the building of monuments, we confirmed the emphasis given to the celebration of these three groups. 3) The celebratory acts promoted in honor of native and Afro-descendent Brazilians. We analyzed the process extending the tributes to these ethnic groups, and its resulting change in the official discourse of these commemorations.

Batista Rodrigues Leite, Letticia 10 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis proposes a study of the ancient and modern uses of a passage from the second Book of the Iliad, known since the 5th century before our era under the designation « Catalogue of Ships ». This passage became a sort of paradigm of a particular mode of utterance, the « catalogue mode of enunciation » (καταλέγειν), which great number of the modern studies had interpreted as an ideal way to describe the reality of the past in a discursive order closely related to the transmission of a « truth », or rather being in the origins of the writing of history. We assume that this reading had an impact on a number of modern studies and it is a consequence of them as well. Such impacts are far from being meaningless, once they had led to consider the catalogue as a document judged reliable to find the « Homeric Greece » and, who knows, to answer to other « Homeric questions». The status of « catalogue » in this passage nevertheless echoes the practice which, as other studies had shown, goes back not only to the diversity of the poetical production from the archaic period - including the Iliad where this practice presents itself as an original interlocution mode - but extends it far beyond. On turning towards some ancient uses of the speeches in catalogue, particularly the ones from the Catalogue of Ships, we aim to understand to what other functions (those being close or not from the ones identified by the modern texts) this enunciative practice answers and how they appear in the dialectic with the previous texts concerned and with their own issues.

Narrativa da espera no romance angolano contemporâneo: notas às alegóricas Noites de vigília de Boaventura Cardoso / Narrative of the waiting in the contemporany Angolan novel: notes to the allegorical Noites de vigília, of Boaventura Cardoso

Joaquim João Martinho 28 August 2018 (has links)
This Dissertation, entitled Narrative of Waiting in the Contemporary Angolan Romance: Notes to the allegorical Vigil Nights of Boaventura Cardoso, proposes the reading of Vigil Nights (2012), by Angolan Boaventura Cardoso. This work, aimed at revisiting the Angolan historical-political past, under the sign of the allegory launched in the theorizing universe by Walter Benjamin, bursts into official history by questioning the Promised Land project whose marker is the \"waiting\" anchored in the desire to found an association of the main characters, namely: Quinito, MPLA, and Saiundo, UNITA. Therefore, through literary comparativeism, we seek to analyze how the re-creation of the Angolan sociopolitical, in Nights of Vigil, indicates the derepression of history, aiming at the consummation of the Angolan imagined community project, thereby hovering the banner of social equality , giving voice and time to those of the social pereiferia. Thus, we try to demonstrate how the fictionalization of the Angolan historical-political denounces a socius against the one proclaimed throughout the anti-colonial movement, given the proclamation of a society based on equality, liberties and collective well-being still in process.

Repensando a integração sul-americana

Araujo, Assilio Luiz Zanella de January 2013 (has links)
The dissertation has an ambitious intention: it aims at rethinking the model of economic integration in South America. The method chosen for such task was to analyze and extract lessons of other experiences of economic integration to define a reflection regarding this process in the region. In this direction, the dissertation was divided into three chapters, along with a brief introductory chapter and the final considerations. Chapter 2, “General Considerations and Theories on Regional Economic Integration”, presents some conceptual definitions and a brief revision of the theories on regional economic integration. The intention of this initial chapter is mainly to “clear the ground” for the analysis of the subsequent chapters. Once this is done, in chapter 3, “Lessons of the Recent International Experiences: European Monetary Union, NAFTA and Financial Cooperation in the East Asian”, the main international experiences of integration are analyzed, presenting basically the rationality, the basic logic of functioning and the results reached by each one of them, in such way to infer in the end some lessons for South America. Chapter 4, “Lessons of the Past Initiatives of Integration in South America: a Concise Analysis of the Way from ALALC to UNASUL”, presents a historical summary of the initiatives of economic integration in South America, following, essentially, the same structure of the previous chapter. Finally, in the final considerations, in light of the lessons extracted in the previous chapters, some comments are made on the effective integrationist initiatives in the region.

Recast Density and Acquisition of Novel Irregular Past Tense Verbs

Proctor-Williams, Kerry, Fey, Marc E. 01 August 2007 (has links)
Purpose: Children with specific language impairment (SLI) lag behind children with typical language (TL) in their grammatical development, despite equivalent early exposure to recasts in conversation (M. E. Fey, T. E. Krulik, D. F. Loeb, & K. Proctor-Williams, 1999) and the ability to learn from recasts in intervention as quickly as do children with TL (K. E. Nelson, S. Camarata, J. Welsh, L. Butovsky, & M. Camarata, 1996). This experiment tested whether this apparent paradox could be attributed to variations in the density of recasts in conversation versus intervention. Method: Thirteen children (7–8 years of age) with SLI and 13 language-similar children (5–6 years of age) with TL were exposed to 3 recast densities of novel irregular past tense verbs (none, conversation-like, intervention-like) over 5 sessions. Outcomes were based on spontaneous conversational productions and a post-test probe. Results: As predicted, at conversation-like densities, children with TL more accurately produced the target verbs they heard in recasts than in nonrecast models (d = 0.58), children with SLI showed no differences, and children with TL produced the verbs more accurately than did children with SLI (d = 0.54). Contrary to expectations, at higher intervention-like recast densities, the SLI group did not improve their accuracy, and the TL group performances were significantly poorer (d = 0.47). Conclusion: At conversational levels, recasts facilitated greater verb learning than models alone but only in the TL group. Increasing recast density to the modest levels in this brief intervention experiment did not benefit children with SLI and led to poorer learning for children with TL. To optimize learning, efficiency of recast distribution as well as rate must be considered.
