I investigated its insertion and participation in the groups of production, associations, as element of construction in new ways of organization, based in the collective work, cooperated and in the self management. I looked for to reveal not only the perspectives of work and meanings attributed to this work for the young, but by means of its form of organization and production, I searched to identify elements produced in these experiences that contributed for a bigger social production – the knowledge and significant learning’s in fight of the popular layers, in a perspective of opposed-culture, Popular Education. The way covered for elaboration of this study is placed in the unit between dialogue, reflection and theoretical deepening, in a methodological perspective of insertion in the groups, participant observation, application of questionnaires, interviews and discussion groups and, still, the use of the photograph, music and video as elements boosters of expression of the subjectivity. This research way it’s based in a perspective theoretician-methodological of ethnographic type, that emphasizes the attempt of comprehension of the elements that they form the cultural and conceptual universe of the participants. The findings reveal that these groups, producers of against-culture, are placed in a platform of exploration and capitalist reproduction for the interaction with the market organized for this system, but at the same time collaborates in the production to knowledge that, allies to an organization and technician-scientific systematization, for the interaction theoretician-practical it can contribute in the sphere of the against-hegemony.

Due to the difficulty of finding registrations about the theme focused – sometimes, due to own lack of these registrations – we have to use as methodological resources some interviews, besides documents, newspapers and pictures that turned out essential elements to a best comprehension of the proposed objective. In this sense, it can be understood that the insertion of the Arabic culture in Floriano city happened in a similar way to that occurred in other Brazilian cities. But, thanks particularly to the presence of the Syrian and Lebanese people in this city, it can be inferred that some aspects of the Arabic influence suffered are different from those occurred in other places, once the immigrants from those countries not only assimilated the regional culture but introduced elements of their own culture, as those relating to food habits and architectural style, only to exemplify. With their natural ability for the commerce they contributed specially to the increase of this activity in Floriano, introducing new commercial practices, including the credit sale modality. Little by little, winning difficulties caused by language and by prejudices, they become respected citizens and assumed public functions, confirming definitely their valuable contribution to the development of Floriano city.

Commande PI basée sur la passivité : application aux systèmes physiques / PI Passivity-Based Control : Application to Physical Systems

Cisneros Montoya, Rafael 13 July 2016 (has links)
One of the best known forms of feeding back a system is through a three-term control law called PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller. PID controllers are sufficient for many control problems, particularly when process dynamics are not highly nonlinear and the performance requirements are modest. Besides, because of its simple structure, the PID controller is the most adopted control scheme by industry and practitioners, beeing the PI the form mostly employed. Since the PI tuning methods are based on the linearization, commissioning a PI to operate around a single operating point is relatively easy, however, the performance will be below par in wide operating regimes. To overcome this drawback the current practice is to re-tune the gains of the PI controllers based on a linear model of the plant evaluated at various operating points, a procedure known as gain-scheduling. There are several disadvantages of gain-scheduling including the need to switch (or interpolate) the controller gains and the non-trivial definition of the regions in the plants state space where the switching takes place - both problems are exacerbated if the dynamics of the plant is highly nonlinear. In other common scenarios, a little information about the process dynamics or only a "good" linear approximation is taken into account when designing the control design. This impedes to analyse the global stability of the system. In this context, the current thesis work is aimed at the designing of PI controllers, based on the passivity theory, such that the stability of the closed-loop system is guarantied. One of the main advantages of passivity concepts is that they offer a physical and intuitive appeal. The primary idea in passive systems is that the power flowing into the system is not less that the increase of storage. Thus, they cannot store more energy than is supplied to it from the outside, with the difference being the dissipated energy. Thus, introducing the concept of energy, this methodology allows to recast the control problem as finding a dynamical system such that system energy function takes the desired form. Also, with this formulation, the communication between practitioners and control theorists is facilitated, incorporating prior knowledge of the system and providing physical interpretations of the control action. In this thesis, a constructive methodology for deriving PI passivity-based controllers is presented and motivated by the application to physical systems.

FEASIBILITY STUDY USING BLOCKCHAIN TO IMPLEMENT PROOF OF LOCATION

Kristina D. Lister-Gruesbeck (5930723) 17 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to determine the feasibility of using blockchain to implement proof of location. There has been an increasing demand for a way to create a validated proof of location that is economical, and easy to deploy as well as portable. There are several reasons for an increased demand in this technology including the ever-increasing number of mobile gamers that have been able to spoof their location successfully, the increasing number of on demand package shipments from companies such as Amazon, and the desire to reduce the occurrence of medical errors as well as holding hospitals accountable for their errors. Additional reasons that this technology is gaining popularity and increasing in demand is due the continually increasing number of lost baggage claims that airlines are receiving, as well as insurance companies desire to reduce the number of fraud cases that are related to high-value goods as well as increasing the probability of their recovery. Within the past year, there has been an extensive amount of research as well as work that has been completed to create an irrefutable method of location verification, which will permit a user to be able to create time-stamped documentation validating that they were at a particular location at a certain day and time. Additionally, the user is then permitted to release the information at a later date and time that is convenient for them. This research was completed using a Raspberry Pi 3B, a Raspberry Pi 3B+, two virtual Raspberry Pi’s as well as two virtual servers in which the goal was to download, and setup either Ethereum and/or Tendermint Blockchain on each piece of equipment. After completely synchronizing the blockchain it be used to store the verified location data that been time-stamped. There was a variety of issues that were encountered during the setup and installation of the blockchains on the equipment including overclocking processors, which negatively affected the computational abilities of the devices as well as causing overheating and surges in voltage as well as a variety of software and hardware incompatibilities. These issues when looked at individually appear to not have much of an impact on the results of this research but when combined together it is obvious that they reduced the results that could be obtained. In conclusion, the combination of hardware and software issues when combined with the temperature and voltage issues that were due to the overheating of the processor resulted in several insurmountable issues that could not be overcome. There are several recommendations for continuing this work including presyncing the blockchain using a computer, using a device that has more functionality and computational abilities, connecting a cooling device such as a fan or adding a heat sink, increasing the available power supply, utilizing an externally power hard drive for data storage, recreate this research with the goal in mind of determining what process or application was causing the high processor usage, or creating a distributed system that utilizes both physical and virtual equipment to reduce the amount of work on one type of device.

It examined the relationship between the curriculum, eating practices, daily school life and education about food preferences. Using an ethnographically-based methodology, the study combined qualitative and quantitative approaches. It took place in a public state school in Teresina, Piaui. Students, parents of students, teachers and school workers participated in the study, as well as residents and food sellers in the school vicinity. Data were collected by observation of the school routine, semi-structured interviews based on oral history, and a Questionnaire of Food Consumption Frequency (QFCF). Quantitative data were statistically analyzed using GraphPad Prism to estimate aspects about the education of food preferences and the different types of foods consumed. Qualitative data were examined using principles of Depth Hermeneutics, and consisted of: socio-historical analysis; formal or discursive analysis; and interpretation/reinterpretation. The results indicated that there were two dimensions of education on food preferences: the school curriculum and the concealed curriculum that is expressed in daily school life. The School Allotment, a subject that forms part of the school curriculum, encourages sensory, playful and bonding experiences with foods that are grown at school, and this strategy encourages consumption of healthy food and increases knowledge about the origin of food products. In daily school life, eating practices are particularly important: they not only provide healthy eating models in the four meals offered at the school, but they also prioritize socialization, bonding with food, are a way of practically applying the knowledge that has been acquired about food, and advocate the conscious consumption of food by the students to promote wellness through healthy eating. The identified educational dimensions are part of a formative process of the education of food preferences of students, and stimulate the consumption of vegetables and fruit (which nearly doubled during the course of a school year). There was a more than 50% reduction of weekly consumption of sugars and fried food and a substantial increase in the consumption of white meat. There was also a reduction of canned foods and a gradual minimization of the consumption of red meat, snack foods, animal organs and oils. It was clear that in order to develop the education for food preferences as a formative process that can be constructed at school, it is essential to integrate three areas: education/curriculum, food/nutrition and school environment/community.

This research sought to understand how it happened the historical process of insertion of the capoeira in school spaces and contribute to future studies and subsequent adoption of new sources of research in the field of cultural history in Piauí and Brazil. It’s based on the following problem: How did the historical trajectory of capoeira and the process of schooling of this culture through the narratives of capoeira masters of Teresina-PI? The main objective of the study was Investigate how it happened the historical trajectory of capoeira and the schooling process of this culture from the oral testimonies of capoeira masters of Teresina-PI. The research is qualitative and was based on the historiographical field of Cultural History the main method was the use of narratives memories of capoeira masters in Piauí combined and crossed with several sources several traces and fragments such as texts from newspapers and periodicals images and documents official or unofficial in an attempt to revisit rebuild and give meaning to the past. The masters of capoeira the principal actors of this story identified as holders of knowledge about their history and their educational processes and pioneers in teaching and keeping alive the tradition of this art are Master Caramuru Master Tucano Master Zé Carlos and Master Chocolate selected by representation and authority acquired and recognized in the world of capoeira forged in the struggle of the dynamics of this development. The main experience was to realize the extreme difficulty it is to tell the stories of people without history of marginalized groups and treated as less important in the context of official history a problem that worsens when seeking a story that is told by the subjects themselves who lived and built such a story. This is the case of a history of capoeira in Piauí where officials sources seem not to exist there is no care in registering the story of a culture in which the subjects are ordinary people with no social significance from the standpoint of who represents and can officially say "of the" and "about" the other. The research points to the understanding that capoeira of Piauí was born spontaneously just for the fun and joy of practicing an art of beauty and unusual plasticity a fight that gave respect to its practitioners from a small focus, in early 1970 coming to school by the year 1979 the "invasion" literal to school spaces. The narratives of the masters of capoeiras how that its practice is important in the imaginary of the Teresina city by the vastness of knowledge that characterize it as an instrument of awareness and development of criticality with their songs gestures stories traditions poetry secrets mandingas and magic spells where body and spirit fuse and can never be conceived in separate / A capoeira como manifestação cultural brasileira e fenômeno social que envolve pessoas de classes e grupos sociais diversos criada e desenvolvida pelos escravos e seus descendentes no Brasil é capaz de agregar valores educativos significativos possibilitando um olhar diferenciado sobre a diversidade cultural de nosso povo se constituindo historicamente em um dos instrumentos privilegiados de resistência e estratégia de sobrevivência no bojo das complexas sociedades urbanas brasileiras em que após décadas de perseguições e quase chegando à extinção se reinventou e assume a condição de cultura nacional sendo aceita nos currículos escolares e culminando com sua inscrição do IPHAN como Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial Brasileiro.

No. of bitstreams: 1 2014_dis_amssilva.pdf: 1992901 bytes, checksum: 6d64e4637f5d5775701f1b58796ae609 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014 / The current research has the purpose of investigating the effects of professional qualification courses on the labor activities of the members of Associação de Condutores de Ecoturismo de Ilha Grande (Association of Ecotourism Guides of Ilha Grande) – ILHAECOTUR – Piauí, Brazil, who sell their labor power to meet the needs of tourism market in the region of Parnaiba Delta, on its extension in Piauí state. To this end, we have taken the perspective of dialectical, historical materialism. The thread of our analysis is processed methodologically in the intertwining of written and oral sources. For this, we took a qualitative approach compounded of bibliographic and field researches, where we identified and inserted our research subjects through the Oral History. Seeking to meet the goals of this research, we collected data about the professional qualification courses attended by the members, pointing out, in our reflections, the contradictions present in this movement. We realized that, although many, the courses offered by SEBRAE and UFPI were superficial and offered a fragmented knowledge to those who were motivated to attend such courses. Despite this superficiality, this was a milestone for the organization of the workers in the sector, who point their participation as the motivator for the creation of the first local cooperative of tourism guides, the Cooperativa de Condutores e Guias de Turismo de Ilha Grande (Cooperative of Ecotourism Guides of Ilha Grande) – COOPERCIG - that had a short duration and was later disarticulated and restructured, now as ILHAECOTUR. We realized that the offering of courses, for been received passively by and articulated in absentia of the participants, helps the process of alienation and reification of workers in relation to their activity, furthermore, it has become an obstacle to greater coordination among workers acting in this sector, because there is a dispute between workers "skilled" and "unskilled", which contributes only to further exploration of both by capitalist instances which make the tourism in Parnaíba Delta their main product. Therefore, it is concluded that the effects of realization of qualification courses among members of ILHAECOTUR are mostly negative, for they provide to workers a minimum and fragmented knowledge, based on the complexity that involves tourism, generating a training focused on meeting the capitalist needs, making difficult the awareness of these workers to their importance in the development of tourism in the region they inhabit.

Distributed computing with the Raspberry Pi

Dye, Brian January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Mitchell Neilsen / The Raspberry Pi is a versatile computer for its size and cost. The research done in this project will explore how well the Raspberry Pi performs in a clustered environment. Using the Pi as the components of a Beowulf cluster will produce an inexpensive and small cluster. The research includes constructing the cluster as well as running a computationally intensive program called OpenFOAM. The Pi cluster's performance will be measured using the High Performance Linpack benchmark. The Raspberry Pi is already used for basic computer science education and in a cluster can also be used to promote more advanced concepts such as parallel programming and high performance computing. The inexpensive cost of the cluster combined with its compact sizing would make a viable alternative for educational facilities that don't own, or can't spare, their own production clusters for educational use. This also could see use with researchers running computationally intensive programs locally on a personal cluster. The cluster produced was an eight node Pi cluster that generates up to 2.365 GFLOPS.

FREQUENCY CALIBRATION FOR THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM OF QUARTZ CRYSTAL MEASUREMENT USING GPS

Jun, Yang, Qishan, Zhang, Jinpei, Wu 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Quartz crystal is an important electronic element in the field of communication systems, computer systems, etc. It is important to precisely measure the frequency of quartz crystal unit for manufacturing. The Pi-network transmission system recommended by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is generally acknowledged as a measurement technique. However it needs a precise frequency source. The frequency source must be calibrated within a regular period in the process of manufacturing. Frequency counters, time internal counters, phase comparisons, which are the most common frequency calibrations, are introduced in the paper. Nowadays GPS has also become the primary system for frequency calibration. GPS receivers provide 1 PPS (Pulse Per Second) with accuracy < 100 nanoseconds to UTC under normal conditions. Motorola UT Oncore timing GPS with time accuracy < 50ns (1 sigma) uses time RAIM algorithm to ensure the validity and reliability of measurements. The comparison between the precise 1PPS and local reference is implemented. And the phase differences are logged and read by computer. According to the values, the frequency output of DDS is coordinated. In order to reduce the phase ambiguity, local reference is divided before comparison. The calibration can be implemented at any time by GPS. Block diagrams of calibration are presented in this paper.
