i.dress, exploring when fabric becomes garment

Hjelte, Ina January 2013 (has links)
This work deals with definition of garments. It explores how little changes a piece of fabric needs to still make it into a garment. What is it that defines a garment, is it just that something is done with a piece of fabric or does it need some recognizing of body parts. The aim is to find new ways of construction without using templates and questioning when textile becomes garments by draping and cutting.Through using how clothes are fitted to the body but instead of using pattern templates work from a rectangle and make it fit the body as garment. Working from two-dimensional to three-dimensional by the help of the body, going directly from fabric to garment. By defining the essential parts in every garment and cutting holes in a rectangle to highlight a certain body part or letting the body go trough different holes to make the fabric turn and drape around the body. Conclusion of the work is that a cut or incision doesn’t always define a garment, that it takes another recognition as well to make the definition. During the development questions have arise as for example how to construct holes in all fabrics and deal with the finishing, how to use raw edges without ripping, how to sew were there is no seam allowance and how to create fabric suited for cutting. / Program: Modedesignutbildningen

Planejamento dos sistemas de distribuição de energia elétrica integrando a confiabilidade do serviço /

Tabares Pozos, Alejandra. January 2019 (has links)
Abstract: Successful planning of distribution networks requires a methodology that includes an accurate network model that considers not only the economic costs but also the costs associated with system reliability. Considering these two essential characteristics, this thesis proposes mathematical models that include reliability assessment within multi-stage expansion planning problem of distribution systems, aiming at expanding network assets (branches and substations) and minimizing reliability costs of the system. In relation to the network characteristics, the proposed planning model uses a non-convex nonlinear AC power flow, which is converted into a convex problem using conic reformulation and piece-wise linearization, to obtain the computational treatability using classical optimization techniques. In addition, conventional simulation-based reliability assessment is implemented equivalently through algebraic expressions. Several benchmarks are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed planning methodology. / Doutor

Paskirstytųjų sistemų agregatinių specifikacijų validavimas analizuojant būsenų pasiekiamumą / Graph models for reachability analysis of distributed systems’ aggregate specifications

Otčeskich, Olga 17 May 2005 (has links)
The problem of analyzing concurrent systems has been investigated by many researchers, and several solutions have been proposed. Among the proposed techniques, reachability analysis—systematic enumeration of reachable states in a finite-state model—is attractive because it is conceptually simple and relatively straightforward to automate and can be used in conjunction with model-checking procedures to check for application-specific as well as general properties. The system validation problem considered here is the problem of verifying that the original specification is itself logically consistent. If, for instance, the specification has a design error, an implementation is expected to pass a conformance test if it contains the same error. A validation for the logical consistency of the system, however, must reveal the design error. An automated analysis of all reachable states in a distributed system can be used to trace obscure logical errors that would be very hard to find manually. This type of validation is traditionally performed by the symbolic execution of a finite state machine model of the system studied. The author presents an overview of the existing validation techniques and methods. Specified and analyzed systems are presented as reachable state graph. The implementation of the aggregate specifications validation system is also presented.

Le rayonnement des marbriers wallons (1800-1920). / The growing reputation of Walloon marble-workers (1800-1920).

Petit, Joëlle 19 March 2014 (has links)
Mots-clés : marbrerie, techniques, expositions, archives, cheminée, dictionnaire, hommes clé / During the XIXth century, marble-working became increasingly mechanised and technical transfers took place in the various crafts, thanks to national industrial exhibitions and to international expositions. This thesis aims to demonstrate, by the examination of two registers of original records, hitherto unpublished, that the trade networks established in the XVIIIth century by a family of marble-workers from Rance, in the Belgian province of Hainault, continued into the XIXth century with specialisation in producing monumental marble chimney-pieces, thanks to the development of techniques and methods of transport. We also propose an outline of a prosopographic dictionary of marble-workers, derived from reports of national and universal expositions, and of the key figures who influenced the development of marble-working techniques in the XIXth century.Key-words : marble-working, techniques, expositions, records, chimney-piece, dictionary, key figures.

EVALUATION OF HOLISTIC FACE PROCESSING

Konar, Yaroslav January 2012 (has links)

Holistic processing has been deemed a crucial part of human face processing. There are three tasks that are indexes of holistic processing and each is used by many researchers for the purposes of demonstrating that either their participants have intact holistic processing or that holistic processing is impaired or missing. The tasks that demonstrate holistic processing are the face inversion, composite face, and the whole-part tasks. In this dissertation, I evaluate the hypothesis that holistic processing is important for face identification. A secondary hypothesis that is evaluated is whether the three indexes of holistic processing are related and whether they are tapping the same underlying process. Chapter 2 tests the first hypothesis in a large group of young adults and shows that the composite face effect (an index of holistic processing) is not related to accuracy on two identification tasks. Chapter 3 tested both hypotheses and showed that none of the holistic indexes are related to one another and they are unrelated to face identification accuracy. In Chapter 4, a large group of older adults are tested on the composite face task and a face identification task, similar to Experiment 2 from Chapter 2. Unlike the results for young adults, older adults show a significant positive correlation between the composite face effect and identification accuracy even though older adults perform worse on the identification task.
/ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
