Probably selective pressures brought advantages to individuals that cooperate, and then this behavior is current in human societies. Most of it is studied about cooperation and natural selection was understood by the game theory, a mathematical approach that helps to understand the conflict and cooperation. We believe that natural selection and game theory could facilitate understanding these behaviors and two theoretical articles were written regarding this view. It was also found that most of data about cooperation was obtained in (with) adults. Since game theory is effective to understand this phenomenon, and to be used and understood, two games were used with five and eleven year old children: the common pool and public goods games. The results are presented in four empirical articles. We found that children respond to social dilemmas of game theory like the adults do. They adjust their rounds regarding the feedback obtained of their partness; in the beginning they cooperate and reduce the degree of cooperation along (throughout) the following session; in the absence of punition the level of opportunism increased, mainly in larger groups; boys and girls behave differently when donate. This research suggest that cooperation has an evolutionary basis in human and it is since earlier in the behavioral pattern shown by adults.

Ziberov, Maksym 26 July 2013 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais / The Thermal Pulse GMAW process seeks the combination of relative high productivity, good weld bead finish and low spatter generation of the Pulsed GMAW with the capability of controlling welding pool of the Pulsed TIG. Nevertheless, its industrial application is still very limited, except for aluminum welding. But this GMAW version may become differential for application if a distribution of the arc/droplet heat and pressure along the joint is applied. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the potential weld pool control of the Thermal Pulsed GMAW for automated welding of root passes, without backing strips. Synchronization between the thermal pulses and torch trapezoidal weaving was initially devised. In this case, the thermal pulse was applied on the joint side, ensuring to melt this region, and the thermal base applied during the transition from one side to the other, in order to minimize the possibility of weld pool collapse, by reducing the heat and pressure of arc and droplets during this period. The maximum root gap was searched by evaluating this technique under different root gaps at several oscillation amplitudes for a given combination of thermal pulse and base parameters (V-groove butt joints of carbon steel welded in flat position, with and without root face). The results showed that this approach, in contrast to the welding without any synchronization, was able to control the weld pool. Root passes with complete penetration, adequate geometry and defect free were produced for gaps ranging from 2,5 to 6 mm. The oscillation amplitude must be larger than the root gap. However, the process does not seem robust enough and requires further investigation to allow keeping the same welding parameters regardless joint geometry variations, especially in the root face and gap.

Změny kvality vody v koupalištích ve volné přírodě a v koupacích oblastech v průběhu letní sezóny / Changes in water quality in outdoor swimming pools and swimming areas during the summer season

MARŠÁLKOVÁ, Alena January 2010 (has links)
Good quality of bathing water is an increasingly important factor taken into account when we choose summer vacations, a place to stay for a weekend or a weekend trip destination. In the Czech Republic, bathing waters may be divided according to the legal status into outdoor swimming pools, surface waters used for bathing (swimming areas), other water surfaces or artificial pools. In my thesis I dealt only with outdoor swimming pools and swimming areas. The difference between them lies in the fact that outdoor swimming pools have their own operators who monitor water quality and provide other services in the waterside. Usually there is a fee charged. Swimming areas have no operators and water quality monitoring is placed under the responsibility of regional public health authorities. In the Czech Republic, at present, 188 outdoor swimming pools and swimming areas have been monitored on a regular basis each bathing season. For my research I chose four sites located in the South Bohemian region and four sites in the South Moravian region. For each of these eight sites, I collected results of laboratory analyses, including categories of water quality in bathing seasons of the past five years, it means from the year 2005. With these obtained data I assessed the water quality development both during the bathing season of 2009 and its evolution over the past five years. On the basis of particular categories of water quality I also tried to compare water quality in the South Bohemian and the South Moravian region and also to compare water quality between individual sampling points in one locality. Another aim was to evaluate some measures and interventions made in order to improve water quality. I focused particularly on the pond Olšovec in the South Moravian region and the VN (water reservoir) Orlík in the South Bohemian region. The results do not show any prominent changes in water quality both during the bathing season 2009 and over the past five years. Pronounced fluctuations in water quality were recorded only at certain locations during the 2007 bathing season. Not even between individual regions significant differences in water quality were found. The proportion of individual water quality categories in the two regions did not differ by more than 4%. We can therefore say that water quality in selected localities in the South Bohemian and South Moravian regions is comparable. As for certain measures and interventions implemented to improve water quality, it is important to focus also on the wider neighborhood of the locality, because it could also be a source of substances worsening water quality.

Mecanismos e a influência de ferro lábil em processos nitrosativos intracelulares utilizando o indicador fluorescente 4,5 diamino fluoresceína / Mechanisms and the role of labile iron pool in intracelular nitrosative processes using 4,5 diaminofluorescein as a probe

Fernando Cruvinel Damasceno 23 February 2016 (has links)
In this work, we investigated the mechanisms and kinetic profiles of nitrosative processes using fluorescent indicator 4,5-diaminofluorescein (DAF2) in RAW 264.7 cells. The labile iron pool (LIP) influence in nitrosative processes was also evaluated. Intracellular DAF2 nitrosation is superoxide dependent and proceeds by two distinct mechanisms: Oxidative nitrosylation and nitrosation. The former mechanism is the most relevant under all experimental conditions tested. Interestingly, the DAF2 nitrosation rate increases linearly with NO concentration of up 100-110 nM but thereafter undergoes a sharp transition and becomes insensitive to NO. This peculiar kinetic behavior has never been reported and it is linked with NO and superoxide recombination dynamics. When NO reaches a concentration capable to outcompete superoxide dismutase for superoxide, the rate of DAF2 nitrosation becomes insensitive to NO. The most striking finding is the LIP´s influence in nitrosative processes. LIP removal by cell membrane permeable metal chelantors increases DAF2 nitrosation rate significantly, suggesting tha LIP can act as an anti-nitrosant species. This increase is probably related with LIP´s direct reaction with peroxynitrite, wich produces non-nitrosant species like nitrite. This controversial LIP´s anti-nitrosative role in cellular systems is rather interesting since it can change the way we understand it´s role in nitrosative and oxidative processes.

Recursos de uso comum, arranjos institucionais locais e governança ambiental global / Common-Pool resources, local institutional arrangements and global environmental governance

Murilo Alves Zacareli 26 February 2015 (has links)
The environment is presented as one of the challenges of global governance with regard to the approaches of International Relations and Political Science. This is due to the fact that natural resources are not subjected to the direct sovereignty of the State and/or formal international organizations as a source of authority because of the transnationality that the subject entails. In this sense, the different actors of International Relations, State and non-State, need to build action arenas, create regulations where States (eventually) are not present, and create instruments of enforcement and compliance. However, the centrality of environmental issues is kept in check by rationalist theories of International Relations based on States\' authority and ability to top-down enforcement. The environment is a subject better considered in transnational arenas in a multilevel and polycentric context. In this sense, the analysis at the local level and the organizational ability of social groups in the constitution of institutional arrangements through collective action to address the possible \"tragedy of the commons\" has attracted scholars seeking to demonstrate its effectiveness and, consequently, their contribution for the resolution of global environmental issues. Thus, the aim of this study is to demonstrate how the relationship between the governance of the common-pool resources at the local level is linked to the global governance instruments set by governments and formal international organizations for the use of biodiversity. Initially, a literature review of International Relations and Political Science literature is carried out to articulate environmental issues between the local and the global to reveal how the multilevel and polycentric environmental governance is established in the case of the use of biodiversity in local communities in the Brazilian Amazon, as shown in the empirical work.

Bubble dynamics and boiling heat transfer : a study in the absence and in the presence of electric fields / Dynamique de bulles et transfert thermiques par ébullition : étude en absence et en présence de champs électriques

Siedel, Samuel 13 April 2012 (has links)
Since boiling heat transfer affords a very effective means to transfer heat, it is implemented in numerous technologies and industries ranging from large power generation plants to micro-electronic thermal management. Although having been a subject of research for several decades, an accurate prediction of boiling heat transfer is still challenging due to the complexity of the coupled mechanisms involved. It appears that the boiling heat transfer coefficient is intimately related to bubble dynamics (i.e. bubble nucleation, growth and detachment) as well as factors such as nucleation site density and interaction between neighbouring and successive bubbles. In order to contribute to the understanding of the boiling phenomenon, an experimental investigation of saturated pool boiling from a single or two neighbouring artificial nucleation sites on a polished copper surface has been performed. The bubble growth dynamics has been characterized for different wall superheats and a experimental growth law has been established. The interaction between successive bubbles from the same nucleation site has been studied, showing the bubble shape oscillations that can be caused by these interactions. The forces acting on a growing bubble has been reviewed, and a complete momentum balance has been made for all stages of bubble growth. The curvature along the interface has been measured, and indications concerning the mechanism of bubble detachment have been suggested. The rise of bubble after detachment has been investigated, and the maximum velocity reached before a change of direction has been estimated and compared to existing models from the literature. The interaction between bubbles growing side by side has been studied: the generation and propagation of a wave front during the coalescence of two bubbles has been highlighted. As boiling heat transfer enhancement techniques are being imagined and developed, this study also focuses on the electrohydrodynamic enhancement technique. Boiling experiments have been performed in the presence of electric fields, and their effects on heat transfer and bubble dynamics have been characterized. Although the volume of the bubbles at detachment and the relationship between the bubble frequency and the wall superheat were not affected, the bubble growth curve was modified. The bubbles were elongated in the direction of the electric field, and this elongation was estimated and compared to other studies from the literature. The rising velocity of the bubble was reduced in the presence of electric field, and the behaviour of bubbles growing side by side was modified, the electric field causing the bubbles to repeal each other. These results, obtained in a fully controlled environment, provide compelling evidence that electric fields can be implemented to alter the bubble dynamics and subsequently heat transfer rates during boiling of dielectric fluids.

Pichot, François 17 February 2012 (has links)
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) is the most widely used welding process in aeronautics, due to its weld quality. During a welding operation, the thermal source induces thermal gradients causing strains and stresses that could affect assembly’s life duration. The aim of this study is to develop a numerical model of the welding process in order to get optimized process parameters. Before coupling thermal and mechanical phenomena, we must modelize heat transfers during welding. We propose a simplified heat source linked to the process parameters which enables to predict the main dimensions of the weld pool and the thermal evolution in the solid part. This source is defined by an homogeneous heat flux depending on a power P distributed in a R radius disk. These two parameters relate to process parameters, the arc height (h) and the current intensity I.Experiment tests was achieved to study the weld pool dimensions for both cases : incomplete penetration and full penetration weld. For each test, we identified the heat source parameters (P, R) which allow to obtain the experimental weld pool dimensions. The confrontation of numerical and experimental results enables to get links between the heat source parameters (P, R) and the welding parameters (I, h), producing a predictive heat source. The heat source reliability was verified taking into account several welding configurations with various superalloys sheet thickness, welding speed, materials.A coupled thermal-mechanical analysis, based on our thermal model, was applied to an industrial case: a nickel based superalloy components assembly of a gas turbine.
