All over the world, the importance of the defense in the consumption relations has gained a very signficant growth over time, along with the evolutions of societies. In Brazil, several reasons can be pointed to explain this fact, and among the main stand out the most recent, namely: the changes in trade relations, with the awareness of consumers and providers of goods and services about their rights and obligations; modernization and equipment of state agencies with specific actions in consumer protection (PROCONs, Federal Public Prosecution Service, the National Council of Consumer Affairs Ministry of Justice); the emergence of several non-governmental institutions (NGOs) in consumer defense, raised by civil society organization; the entry into force of specific legislation, the Consumer Protection Code by Law No. 8.078/90. An institution as the Public Prosecution Service, defender of society by definition, and especially after the promulgation of the Constitution of 1988, had greatly extended its mandate and responsibility in defending the interests of consumers in their relations. Thus, this paper proposes to describe and analyze the relations of consumption, both in Brazil and in other developed capitalist centers, such as the United States of America and European Union countries. It will be reported and analyzed, furthermore, how the Federal Public Prosecution Service performs its constitutional mission, with the presentation of some real cases, specific, which focus on the performance of ministerial body in protecting consumers, communities and economic order.

Socioeconomics of mobile money and local currencies in Kenya : What monetary innovations for which development?Dissaux, Tristan 05 November 2018 (has links)
Monetary innovations, giving money new forms and characteristics, are now used to promote the process of economic development. In Kenya, they unfold in mobile money systems such as M-Pesa, as well as in several local currencies implemented on the model of the Bangla-Pesa. These monies have different natures and logics, and the thesis aims to show their impacts and implications. For this, we use data from two field surveys.Monetary innovations challenge development theories, which have largely excluded money from their analyzes, and which generally consider it to be neutral. The study of these schemes allow us to lay the foundations of a monetary theory of development. By doing so, we question the meaning of the concept of development, and the roles that money and finance have to play for it.

Economia urbana e articulação dos setores populares: o caso do centro comercial e de serviços popular do bairro do Jacintinho Maceió -AL / Urban economy and articulation of the popular sectors: the case of the Mall and popular Jacintinho's neighborhood services Maceió-ALAndrade, Jarpa Aramis Ventura de 13 December 2012 (has links)
The goal of this dissertation is to understand the profile of one of the outlying regions of the city of Maceió, through the phenomenon of articulation of popular sectors - regular employees, informal, illegal and irregular, low-income (up to 2.5 minimum wages) and its families - in the process of urbanization in a peripheral region of the Brazilian Northeast. A poor neighborhood of the capital of Alagoas, the Jacintinho, is building on the theoretical framework of Christaller and Corrêa, with the purpose of presenting the street market as a core of commerce and formation of these urban spaces. The engagement theory about how to capture the economic reality of existing shopping complexes in the peripheral regions provided the “popular economy” as a solution. This concept was formatted based in Santos, Dal Ri, and Muterle Tiriba. The result of this research is that the street market of Jacintinho neighborhood is a popular economic strategy of low-income segments that have little schooling, from the countryside and, mostly, its plants do not meet the normative regulatory frameworks (formal, legal and regular). This strategy, studied in the case of Jacintinho, is similar to other suburbs of Maceió.

Previous issue date: 2012-03-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis aims to analyze university extension projects, directed to solidarity popular economy. This way of doing economics has been expressed as an international movement, and that here, in Brazil, is mostly perceived in public universities since the mid-90s of last century, from the Technological Incubators of Popular Cooperatives (ITCPs), which are a university extension program and that encourage solidarity and popular projects, seeking to exercise self-management. The research sought to answer the following question: what educational components are present in the extension developed by incubators of solidarity popular enterprises? The basic hypothesis is that the university extension developed by popular incubators presents ethical, theoretical and methodological components which converge with basic elements to popular education. The research was qualitative in nature, based on the theory of historical materialism, assuming the materialist dialectics as a method of analysis, prioritizing the contradiction category. Based on Marxist analysis, however, this research emphasized the interpretation, setting up what is called a dialectical hermeneutics. It took part of the empirical field of the research four incubators, namely INCUBACOOP/ UFRPE, ITCP/COPPE/UFRJ, ITCP/USP and INCUBES/UFPB. It was used as a technique for data collection, documents produced by the incubators and semistructured interviews, strengthening the documentary analysis. The data showed that the incubators of solidarity popular projects present themselves as a new and rich proposal of extension, able to build concrete possibilities of a transformative praxis, based on the ethical principles of dialogue, appreciation of the cultures of others, participation and listening, this is, consideration of the speaking of others; and yet, based in the utopian principles of autonomy, self-management and human emancipation, present in popular education. Paradoxically, the implementation of these educational acts revealed professionals that although were already working in the solidarity economy, ignored the theoretical-methodological bases of the educational proposal of incubator, it also revealed a verticalized internal structure and consequent centralization of the power of decisions within it, besides the methodological sight of incubation simply summarized to techniques. Fizeram parte do campo empírico da pesquisa quatro incubadoras, a saber: INCUBACOOP/UFRPE, ITCP/COPPE/UFRJ, ITCP/USP e INCUBES/UFPB.

Bridging the Gap between a Healthy Diet and Agroecology in General Pacheco, ArgentinaMeave, Anya Yvonne 05 1900 (has links)
This study explores the role Comunidad Milpa (Milpa) plays in implementing agroecology food systems in Comunidad Pacheco, Argentina. From teaching residents about food cultivation practices, to the importance of a healthy diet and developing relationship with local agroecology producers, the method builds upon the idea of food sovereignty and self-governance. Research conducted for this study focused on obstacles residents encountered while seeking to incorporate local agroecology foods into their diet. Incentives encouraging residents to support area agroecology efforts were also investigated, as well as barriers producers experienced while marketing their products. Design methods used for the investigation included both qualitative and quantitative methods in the form of surveys and interviews with members and participants of Milpa. Data gathered through both methods resulted in identifying the perspective Milpa participants have of the organization, their food practices and choices, and obstacles food producers encounter within the community.

Praxis, Informal Learning and Particpatory Democracy: The Case of Venezuela's Socialist Production UnitsLarrabure, Manuel 01 January 2011 (has links)
Using a Marxist perspective, this thesis examines Venezuela’s Socialist Production Units (SPU). SPUs have emerged as a clear alternative to the neoliberal model that characterized Venezuela and most of Latin America for the past 30 years. However, SPUs exist within capitalism and their political economy remains contradictory, a reality that manifests in the concrete experiences of their workers. Although facing contradictory experiences, SPU workers are acquiring important learning that challenges dominant market relations and builds the preconditions for a new, more just society. This learning is being acquired informally, in particular, through workers’ democratic participation in their SPU. For these reasons, SPUs should be considered important sites where revolutionary praxis is taking place. Therefore, I conclude, SPUs are making a significant contribution to the building of ‘socialism in the 21st century’, but further struggles, in particular, against the state bureaucracy and large local landowners are needed to advance their goals.
