Educator perceptions of the implementation of integrated quality management systems (IQMS) in further education and training colleges in South Africa / Karnagie Pillay.Pillay, Karnagie January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate educator perceptions of the implementation of Integrated Quality Management Systems (IQMS) in Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges in South Africa. Quality in education is presently put more firmly on the agenda not withstanding the fact that a vast range of literature is available to support the process of improving the quality in education. The department of education has made many attempts to introduce an effective appraisal system in support of quality education only to find that the previous appraisal systems were rejected by the educator force for the mere fact that it was perceived as a form of inspection and supervision rather than for development purposes.
This study also focuses on a review of the integrated quality management system (IQMS), of its purpose, guidelines and its subsequent implementation in FET colleges in South Africa in 2004. The primary focus of the discussion is on the processes, the methods, the guiding principles and the pitfalls of the implementation of quality management systems in educational organizations To guide this discussion literature reviews on quality, quality education, quality management and quality management systems were undertaken.
The empirical study entailed gleaning information from a structured questionnaire which was distributed to a sample group of lecturers at Sedibeng College for FET in the Gauteng Province. The questions were structured in a manner to gain information about the understanding of the operational principles of quality management, the aims and guiding principles of IQMS, the importance of quality control and the external relationships of the college. The major finding emanating from this study was that there was a need for intensive training in IQMS, thus a management's strategy for ensuring that IQMS is effectively implemented was proposed. The overall recommendation arising from this study includes ensuring that management designs a quality manual to guide the process of quality assurance. / Thesis (M.Ed. På tal om skolan och demokrati : Hur lärare uppfattar kopplingar mellan elevers muntlighet och skolans demokratiuppdrag / Speaking of school and democracy : How teachers perceive links between student’s orality and school democracy missionYsander, Anna Lena January 2018 (has links)
This Exam is about the teacher’s outlook of their student’s oral abilities in relation to the democratic mission of the educational body. Oral abilities are crucial to function in a democratic. To be able to make your point and defend your opinion on different subject, is demanded of you today and these skills are even more important in todays individualized society. According to the school act, the school must implement the knowledge and skills necessary for the students to cope with life outside school. The question this study raises is, do the faculty at school acknowledge the connection between the democratic mission and the oral skills of their students. This study shows that educators and research agree on the strong connections between these areas. It is difficult to be active in a democracy if you are not able to express yourself to other people. The teachers in this study are expressing a concern of the lack of skills regarding the ability to communicate orally that many of the students show. Studies has shown that students do need to practice their oral skills more than it is done today but many teachers lack in knowledge in how to help their students. The effectiveness of a cross-cultural training programme on expatriate adjustmentSchutte, Vani 10 1900 (has links)
In today’s global business environment, multinational companies recognise that expatriate
management is a major determinant of success in international business. Expatriates do not
only face changes in the work environment but face a full range of cultural, personal and
lifestyle changes that influence the success of an international assignment. This study
investigates the relationship between cross-cultural training and expatriate adjustment. A
quantitative longitudinal study was conducted within two phases to explore a European
multinational companies cross-cultural training programme and its effects on expatriate
adjustment in South Africa. Overseas experience, language proficiency, spousal
adjustment, cultural distance and host country friendships were also explored as
antecedents of adjustment. The empirical study included descriptive and inferential
statistics. The results showed that there was no statistically significant relationship between
cross-cultural training and expatriate adjustment. While previous overseas experience
showed a significant positive influence on sociocultural adjustment, it had no significant
effect on psychological well-being or culture shock. Cultural distance displayed a significant
negative influence on sociocultural adjustment and psychological well-being / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Com.

The role of adult basic education and training programmes in the development of rural black women in the Omusati region in NamibiaNambinga, Selma Tilomalenga 11 1900 (has links)
The study aimed at investigating the role played by ABET programmes in the development of rural black women in the Omusati Region. The study was to determine whether the ABET programmes that are provided in the area are offering relevant education that helps the women of the area in their development.
The research findings indicated that the ABET programmes offered are not providing the relevant skills needed to develop the women participants. The programmes that are offered concentrate on literacy and numeracy, and it seem not to be very effective in making a difference to the women's lives. Women needs skills that can help them generate income to improve their living conditions. The study, in summary, established that the programmes offered by the ABET centres would be more effective if skills training is included to uplift and improve the lives of the participants on a social, economical as well as educational level. / Agriculture, Animal Health and Human Ecology / M. Chinese English major students and the apprenticeship of observation : The influence of previous student experiences on current beliefs about English language teaching / Kinesiska engelskstuderande universitetsstudenter och observationens lärlingskap : Tidigare eleverfarenheters påverkan på nuvarande åsikter om engelskundervisningHögqvist, Marion January 2017 (has links)
“The apprenticeship of observation” is a person’s previous experiences as a student and it can greatly affect a person’s beliefs about teaching. This paper aimed to study the effect that previous student experiences had had on English major students at a university in China. A questionnaire was designed in order to collect data. The questionnaire was distributed to 117 undergraduate English majors. The results showed that the English majors considered their previous experiences as students to have greatly affected their current beliefs about English language teaching. The results further showed that the effects had mainly been positive and that the English major students considered “methods for English teaching”, “content”, and “lesson planning” to be the areas that had been affected most. These results were in accordance with most previous studies on the topic.

Evaluation of Transperineal Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Ultrasound-Fusion Biopsy Compared to Transrectal Systematic Biopsy in the Prediction of Tumour Aggressiveness in Patients with Previously Negative BiopsyBorkowetz, Angelika, Renner, Theresa, Platzek, Ivan, Toma, Marieta, Herout, Roman, Baunacke, Martin, Groeben, Christer, Huber, Johannes, Laniado, Michael, Baretton, Gustavo, Froehner, Michael, Zastrow, Stefan, Wirth, Manfred P. 06 August 2020 (has links)
Objectives: We compared the transperineal MRI/ultrasoundfusion biopsy (fusPbx) to transrectal systematic biopsy (sys-Pbx) in patients with previously negative biopsy and investigated the prediction of tumour aggressiveness with regard to radical prostatectomy (RP) specimen. Material and Methods: A total of 710 patients underwent multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI), which was evaluated in accordance with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS). The maximum PI-RADS (maxPI-RADS) was defined as the highest PI-RADS of all lesions detected in mpMRI. In case of proven prostate cancer (PCa) and performed RP, tumour grading of the biopsy specimen was compared to that of the RP. Significant PCa (csPCa) was defined according to Epstein criteria. Results: Overall, scPCa was detected in 40% of patients. The detection rate of scPCa was 33% for fusPbx and 25% for sysPbx alone (p < 0.005). Patients with a maxPI-RADS ≥3 and a prostate specific antigen (PSA)-density ≥0.2 ng/mL2 harboured more csPCa than those with a PSA-density < 0.2 ng/mL2 (41% [33/81] vs. 20% [48/248]; p < 0.001). Compared to the RP specimen (n = 140), the concordance of tumour grading was 48% (γ = 0.57), 36% (γ = 0.31) and 54% (γ = 0.6) in fusPbx, sysPbx and comPbx, respectively. Conclusions: The combination of fusPbx and sysPbx outperforms both biopsy modalities in patients with re-biopsy. Additionally, the PSA-density may represent a predictor for csPCa in patients with maxPI-RADS ≥3.

Die verhouding van die vader in ‘n hersaamgestelde gesin met sy nie-inwonende kindEbersohn, Suzette 02 October 2007 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine and describe how divorced biological fathers in reconstituted families give form to the educational relationship with their non-resident young children, to achieve an understanding of fathers’ perceptions of their parental roles as well as the functionality of the relationship in practice. A multiple case study using semi-structured interviews was conducted. A meta-analysis of the emergent themes indicated that the field within which understanding of the phenomenon should be constructed, ranges beyond the context of the fathers reconstituted families who participated in the study. The literature review confirmed that the relationship between former marriage partners plays an important part in fathers’ ongoing relationship with their non-resident child/ren. Findings: • The interaction in the mesosystem between the primary and secondary micro family systems of the two parents with and without custody influences the way in which the biological fathers endeavour to establish/maintain a relationship with their non-resident child/ren. Within this unique mesosystem various obstacles and potential traps exist that could prevent fathers from giving form to their educational relationship with their non-resident child/ren. • By identifying and mobilising assets and strengths the focus could shift from fathers’ feelings of frustration and powerlessness to feelings of empowerment and self-determination that could promote optimal relations. / Dissertation (MEd (Educational Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Educational Psychology / MEd / unrestricted

How Can English Teaching Benefit from Students’ Extramural English in Secondary School 7-9? / Hur kan engelskundervisningen dra nytta av elevernas extramurala engelska i grundskolan 7-9?Ali, Heba January 2021 (has links)
Abstract This empirical study investigates how students in secondary school 7-9 learn the English language outside of school, in an informal setting, and how they can benefit from it in a formal setting in school. The usage of digital technology is more common nowadays amongst youngsters than it used to be before. Digital technology has become a part of young people’s daily lives, whether it is for social media, schoolwork, gaming or blogging. Most students in Swedish secondary schools have their own computers, mobile phones, and have the opportunity to borrow an iPad from school, if needed. For this reason, it is relevant and interesting to investigate how students use their informal knowledge of English in a school setting, and how teachers take advantage of that knowledge. The research focused primarily on how the incorporation of extramural English can be used as a motivating factor for students to develop their English language in a formal setting. The results showed that students who are given the opportunity to use their previous knowledge in the classroom, appeared to be more encouraged to engage in classroom activities. They were also more motivated to work with the assignments handed to them. Teachers who involved students’ interests and previous knowledge in the classroom were experienced in the use of different media in the classroom and had good knowledge about students’ daily lives and experiences, something that helped them establish a positive teacher-student relationship. Keywords: extramural English, out-of-school English, teaching materials, motivation, informal- and formal settings, students’ perceptions.
