Mayolo, Vianei Roberto 01 July 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-11-23T12:48:25Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Vianei Roberto Mayolo.pdf: 2008951 bytes, checksum: d1004367a54302e3be2b7985371a28f7 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-11-23T12:48:25Z (GMT). In this context, the company should be able to interrelate dynamically organizational competences and competitive strategy. This study aims to identify and evaluate organizational competences, the involvement of middle management and their relationship to the competitive advantage of the Faculdade da Serra Gaúcha (FSG), the largest college of Rio Grande Sul in number of students in the year 2014, as shown by the Census of Higher Education by Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (INEP). The importance of this study is justified by the increase in the number of Higher Education Institutions in Brazil, which has created a highly competitive environment in which good management practices are essential to ensure the level of quality in the teaching offered, as well as gaining competitive advantage of institutions. It may be noticed that despite the recent growth in enrollment in Higher Education Institutions, Brazil is still below the goals set in the National Education Plan (PNE). The theoretical framework presents a historical approach to the concept of competence, its dimensions and aspects, as well as explores the concept of competitive advantage, its relationship with organizational competences and the involvement of middle management. The research consisted of a mixture study, which uses as a method, the case study with two distinct stages: the first qualitative, through interviews with four directors, and the second stage, quantitative in which a questionnaire was sent to 114 managers intermediate level, respectively, six supervisors and 28 coordinators of administrative areas, 22 engineers and 58 members of Structuring Teacher Nuclei from undergraduate courses, representing all managers at this level at the FSG. Among the main results are: the identification of the three main organizational competences of FSG in senior management's perception and the consensus from middle management as competitive advantage conferred to FSG through these, which corroborates with the understanding that the consensus among members of the middle management in relation to organizational competences are intrinsically linked to the outstanding performance of the institution. It was further found that despite the consensus regarding the competitive advantage generation potential, the robustness of these organizational competences is low or moderate, which would indicate the existence of certain amount of risk when it comes to its durability under the influence of external variables such as technological, economic, political and or social changes.

Aligning private higher education with the needs of the local tourism industry

Ramouthar, Shayna January 2015 (has links)
Submitted in full requirement of Degree of Master of Management Sciences Specialising in Hospitality and Tourism , Department of Hospitality and Tourism, Faculty of Management Sciences, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Sfrica. 2015. / There is a considerable gap between what is provided by tourism education providers and the needs expressed by the industry. Literature pertaining to private higher education institutions based in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) curriculum provision is very limited. Therefore, this study sought to determine whether tourism qualifications offered at registered private higher education institutions in KZN are aligned with the needs of the local tourism industry. This study accordingly identified and investigated the gaps between the needs of the local tourism industry and the core tourism curriculum offered at private institutions. In addition, the study closely examined the curricula offered by analysing and comparing the similarities and differences between the tourism curriculums of each private institution. In order to provide solutions and recommendations for future curriculum development, stakeholder’s views on what a tourism curriculum offered at private higher education institutions should entail was evaluated. Respondents comprised of managers from selected sectors of the local tourism industry, tourism graduates, tourism curriculum designers and tourism academics of the selected private higher education institutions. To achieve the first and third objective, a mixed-methods approach was adapted. This empirical study utilised electronic surveys to obtain a sample of 164 participants. A document analysis entailing thematic analysis was also complied to address the second objective. The findings revealed that there are more similarities amongst the education providers’ formal curriculum content than differences. However, the tourism curricula on offer by all the sampled private higher education institutions were observed not to align with the needs of the local tourism industry. Therefore, this study identified numerous gaps between the needs of the local tourism industry and the provisions by private higher education institutions. The misalignment was found to be attributable to multiple factors for which recommendations are made. / M

Innovation et réforme de l'enseignement supérieur au Liban / Innovation and reform of the lebanese higher education

Skaff, Danielle 13 July 2019 (has links)
The evolution of the university's mission over the years has led many countries to undertake far-reaching reforms in their higher education system to further contribute to economic and social development. Thus, it seems inevitable to take interest in the university governance in Lebanon and its contribution to the enrichment of the business environment. Hence, the main question of our research: which relevant models of governance should Lebanese private universities adopt in order to improve professional integration?Knowing that there is only one public university in Lebanon, our methodology consisted in evaluating the current governance practices of two universities, one following a Francophone system, the other Anglophone, benchmarking, conducting surveys and interviews in order to identify the best practices in governance that could contribute to the improvement of the employability. Our results show that even though universities with the Anglophone system appear to perform better than the francophone ones, however, all Lebanese universities are characterized by significant weaknesses in terms of governance arrangements. In conclusion, in a rather complex and unusual context, where politics, sectarianism and corruption reign, our study shows the inability to adopt only one adequate model of governance for all the Lebanese universities, but rather to propose a better practice of the mechanisms of governance. We have made recommendations to the concerned parties and expressed wishes to the government in order to achieve a better professional integration.

Perceived service quality and its relationship with brand image and satisfaction of students from private universities in Metropolitan Lima.

Polo Montero, Andrea Jimena, Vega Del Águila, Rodrigo Arturo 08 July 2021 (has links)
By the year 2021, 49 Peruvian universities were denied the licensing granted by the Superintendence of Higher University Education (SUNEDU); a regulatory organization attached to the Ministry of Education of Peru. The service provided by these institutions was below the quality standards established by the state organization. This raises a question regarding the perceived service quality offered by the universities in the country and the urgency to analyze this variable in the education field. In this instance, the present research study aims to study and analyze perceived service quality as an independent variable inside of the Peruvian higher education system. Furthermore, this investigation seeks to deepen the study of the relation of this variable with two other related do educational marketing studies: brand image and student satisfaction. This research will be carried out as correlational study, working with a cross sectional quantitative approach. For this, the study will be worked with a questionnaire applied to a non-probabilistic sample of 400 undergraduate students from private universities in Lima. In addition, the results would be analyzed through correlations; while, the program to use would be IBM SPSS. / Trabajo de investigación

Managing a private higher education institution within the current higher regulatory context in South Africa

Ellis, Maria Elizabeth 01 1900 (has links)
The South Africa higher education environment has been regulated through the enactment of policies promulgated by the governments of the day since the establishment of South African higher education. Even in the early days, the higher education sector comprised both public and private higher education institutions. Since South Africa’s democratic election in 1994, the higher education environment has been altered by the current government by means of policy enactment. Limited research has been conducted on the impact of the current regulatory context on the management of a private higher education institution. Therefore, the focus of this study was to determine how a private higher education institution within the current higher regulatory context in South Africa is managed. A qualitative research methodology was used to study the phenomenon. For this purpose, a case study, an accredited and registered private higher education institution was identified and individual interviews conducted with its six managers. The study adhered to ethical principles and techniques to enhance the validity/trustworthiness of the findings. The study found that the current regulatory enactment that was initiated under the new democratic government elected in 1994 had far-reaching implications for the private higher education sector. As a consequence, management structures, policies and procedures, quality assurance processes and procedures and management functions were altered. However, some of the regulatory criteria still have an impact on the management functions as private providers still struggle for full recognition by the government. / Educational Studies / M. Ed.
