An exploration of therapist and patient factors and their relationship to outcome in 2+1 brief therapyRudkin, Angharad January 2002 (has links)
Introduction: the area of process research has identified differences in the process of CB and PI therapy and has highlighted factors which contribute to outcome. The present research aimed to explore three factors, therapist focus, client experiencing and client cognitive change, in very brief 2+1 therapy, and explore their relation to immediate outcome as measured by the assimilation scale. Method: intensive quantitative analyses of eight cases receiving 2+1 therapy was carried out. Four cases received CB therapy, four received PI therapy. Two of each showed 'good' and 'poor' outcome. Ten excerpts, rated in a previous project as significant, were used as items of analysis. Results: PI therapists focused more than CB therapists on 'Constructing Meaning' (CM). Good outcome PI therapy showed a greater emphasis than poor outcome PI therapy on CM. PI therapy clients had higher levels of experiencing, which increased over therapy. Good outcome PI therapy was associated with higher EXP levels, good outcome CB therapy with lower levels of EXP. Good outcome CB clients had fewer negative selfstatements. Movement on the assimilation model was associated with increased EXP levels in PI and fewer negative self-statements in CB therapy. Discussion: results supported previous findings of differences in the process of CB and PI therapy. The mechanism of change in very brief CB and PI therapy are discussed, followed by implications for clinical practice and future research. Overall, findings suggest a picture of the process of therapy which may contribute to the clarification of the complex nature of change in psychotherapy and what is meant by therapeutic change.

The Effects of Couple-Centered and Therapist-Centered Process on the Dyadic Attachment of Distressed Therapy-Seeking Couples: A Multilevel Longitudinal AnalysisZamora, Justin Paul 19 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This study is an empirical investigation of 35 clinically distressed therapy seeking couples receiving sequential sessions of both therapist-centered and, alternatively, couple- centered, enactment-based therapy processes. Using a mixed-level longitudinal analysis with a repeated measure design, analysis of secure attachment, and the interrelated dimensions of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were examined demonstrating that couple- centered, enactment-based sessions produced higher levels of post-session and within-session attachment gains than therapist-centered process for both males and females. Couple-centered, enactment-based process was observed to have a unique treatment effect after the second session, where both partners experienced higher levels of attachment followed by levels returning to pre-experiment levels. Clinical implications and future research considerations are suggested.

Study of the strategic decision making process in higher education institutionsAldhaen, Esra Saleh January 2017 (has links)
The strategic decision making process (SDMP) is a major issue in organisations. It is part of the larger topic of strategic management and related to strategic planning. Achievement of strategic objectives outlined in the strategic plan of an organisation depends on the decisions taken through the process. Yet the literature shows that the concept of SDMP is not well understood and organisations find it difficult to develop and implement an SDMP, particularly Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The literature indicates that decisions are taken in organizations in different ways for example using intuition, data, collaboration and ad-hoc considerations. In addition contextual factors are argued to affect the SDMP although very little research has been conducted to explain how contextual factors affect SDMP they do in HEIs. Some examples of contextual factors namely decision process characteristics have been identified and discussed as part of the SDMP literature in industry. However, lack of knowledge about SDMP and how contextual factors influence SDMP is regarded as to be a major obstacle for HEIs in taking decisions and choosing the best alternative amongst available decisions. This research seeks to contribute to address this important issue. Whilst there are many strategic decision characteristics (contextual factors) identified in the literature, this research focuses on decision importance. The rationale for choosing decision importance was that there is always some concern in the minds of the decision makers in the HEIs on what constitutes an important decision. What is considered as important decision while the decision is being taken may prove to be less important after implementation if there is no clear understanding of how to assign importance to a decision. Even in the industrial sector, Elbanna and Child (2007) it has been argued that decision importance has not been studied well. Relying upon the theoretical model developed by Elbanna and Child and other arguments found in the literatue, this research argued that the SDMP is a combination of relationships between decision characteristics, SDMP characteristics and decision outcomes that are influenced by environmental factors. As far as environmental factors were concerned environmental uncertainty was chosen as an external environment factor while organisational performance was chosen as the internal contextual factor. These two factors were argued to moderate the relationship between SDMP characteristics and SDMP outcomes and theoretical support for this conceptualisation was taken from the model developed by Elbanna and Child. A research model was developed to address the research questions, and the aim of the study was “to examine the different decision specific characteristic, SDMP characteristic and SDMP process outcome variables and develop a relationship amongst them in the context of HEIs in a changing environment”. The research was conducted in the United States of America and data was gathered from faculty members involved in decision making at the department level and higher. A positivist epistemological and objective ontological stance was adopted and a deductive approach was used. The research model was tested using the data collected from 485 valid responses to a survey questionnaire. Linear regression was the primary analysis approach and supplemented by path analysis. Results from the regression analysis showed that decision importance exerts influence on decision effectiveness through the mediators, rationality in decision making, intuition and decentralization in decision making. However, the outcome of path analysis showed that only rationality in decision making and intuition are important while decentalisation was not found to be statistically significant. Similarly environmental factors exerted pressure only on the relationship between rationality in decision making and decision effectiveness. The contradicting SDMP factors rationality in decision making and intuition were both found to be necessary to SDMP in the HEI context. This research has contributed to knowledge in terms of establishing a relationship between decision importance and decision process effectiveness mediated by rationality in decision making and intuition and development of the model. Theoretically the findings of this research show that the modification imposed on the model developed by Elbanna and Child was found to be statistically significant and found support from the literature. Environmental factors affected the relationship between rationality in decision making and decision effectiveness. This research has provided a model that can be used to help decision makers in HEIs to implement SDMP practically in the organization, to guide the process towards more robust decisions. The findings of this research find application in supporting policy makers to increase the likelihood of more effective decisions so that the decisions taken more effective.

Kommunikation i Ledarskap på distans : en fallstudie / Communication in Distance Leadership : a case studyStrömberg, Linus, Persson, Jesper January 2021 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose is to study how the way to communicate between manager and employee is affected, where the majority of employees due to COVID-19 have had to adjust to the situation and telework. Method: The study is performed as a qualitative, cross-sectional designed single case study, at a financial company located in western Sweden. The questions for this study were answered through data analysis collected through personal, semi-structured interviews with supervisors and employees. Result: Human-oriented leadership tends to create better conditions for a well working communication in teleworking, compared to task-oriented leadership. The tools for working and communication are essential but also always available for the employee. If the tools in use are not adopted for the needs of the organization, the flow of the communication is affected and thus also the feedback. On the other hand the user during teleworking becomes more aware of the tools’ full potential. Teleworking basically doesn’t demand more of the employees other than being able to work independently and at least as efficiently, as well as taking more self responsibility. The ways and possibilities for communicating are limited while teleworking, which means that all involved continuously need to work mutually to obtain a well working communication. The manager definitely has a higher responsibility to manage a divided team but it’s not solely one person’s onus to obtain the communication. Suggestions for further studies: The recommendation is to study multiple organizations, which are not bound to the same legal requirements and where the staff has maintained the same since the conversion to teleworking. That way differences can be compared between organizations where a well functioning communication was established even before the conversion. Through a qualitative study there is a possibility to cover a greater number of employees with the objective of receiving a different perspective on how the entire organization considers communication and feedback during a telecommuting management.

Caractériser et comprendre le processus de changement des psychothérapies complexes : modélisation des processus, mécanismes et conditions des changements associés à la psychothérapie de 66 enfants et adolescents présentant des troubles du spectre autistique / Characterizing and understanding the process of change in complex psychotherapies : modeling the processes, mechanisms and conditions of changes associated with the psychotherapy of 66 children and adolescents with autism spectrum disordersThurin, Jean-Michel 31 May 2017 (has links)
The methodology of assessment in psychotherapy has long been limited to results from comparative group clinical trials. The objective, expressed in the 2000s, to understand what is causing its effectiveness has involved a methodological renewal. Its concrete application is poorly documented. The first part presents, from a review of the literature focusing on the introduction of research on the process associated with outcomes, how the multifactorial interactional paradigm of psychotherapy has stimulated the development of methods adapted to the complexity and observation in natural conditions. The second part introduces the general and specific methodological questions of this new orientation around five main axes: 1. an interactional and transactional epistemology; 2. A refocusing on intensive mixed case studies; 3. A multifocal clinical and theoretical investigation of the processes and mechanisms of change; 4. a strong clinical-researcher relationship; 5. an innovative statistical approach. The third part presents the experience and issues raised by the implementation of this program as part of a practice-oriented clinical research network, from data collection to analysis of processes and mechanisms of change, and results. The fourth part presents a detailed review of the literature. This work should foster collaborations with related disciplines and treatment efficiency through a better understanding of the conditions and mechanisms of change associated with the development of a case study database.
