Könsskillnader i gymnasieungdomars möjlighet att koncentrera sig på skolarbetet vid psykosomatiska symptom

Lundmark, Malin, Klingberg, Maria January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of psychosomatic symptoms of an Swedish high school and if the possibility to concentrate on school work is influenced by them. The aim was also to examine the relationship between social support and psychosomatic symptoms. A questionnaire was distributed at a high school with 95 pupils in northern Sweden. The question concerning psychosomatic symptoms is taken from HBSC and includes eight different symptoms. A total of 93 adolescents responded to the survey. The results showed that 79 percent of the boys and 88 percent of the girls at the school is experiencing at least one psychosomatic symptom at least once a week. 31 percent of the boys and 62 percent of the girls with symptoms about once a month or more often reported that it affects their ability to concentrate on school work. There were in the study, no clear correlation between the perceived psychosomatic symptoms and social support from people in their environment.

Behavioral Treatment of Essential Hypertension: A Comparison of Cognitive Behavior and Multi-Element Self-Regulation Therapies

Cunningham, Diana Pinson 05 1900 (has links)
Self-monitoring, lowered arousal training (i.e., biofeedback and relaxation training) and maintenance follow-up appeared to contribute to effective treatment of hypertension. Cognitive therapy, while effective in treatment of some stress-related disorders, has not been studied as a specific treatment component for hypertension. The present study explored the use of cognitive therapy as a treatment variable to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive persons. The effectiveness of a multi-element treatment including cognitive therapy, blood-pressure biofeedback, and relaxation training was also assessed. Self-monitoring and maintenance training were included as a part of each treatment process.

Heart Rate as an Index of Student Cognitive Activity in a Classroom

Agnew, Robert L. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to test the Lacey hypothesis of cardiac behavior patterns for possible use as a measure of attentiveness in a classroom where experimental variables were not controlled. Lacey's hypothesis predicted cardiac deceleration with instances of information-intake and cardiac acceleration with instances of information-processing. Third grade students in a self-contained classroom were telemetrically monitored for heart rate during reading group activities. Based on cardiac behavior, taking verbal instructions and reading aloud were improperly classified. Verbal instructions produced a mean acceleratory response instead of the predicted deceleration. Reading aloud produced a weak mean deceleratory response instead of the anticipated acceleration. The other events within the intake category and the processing category, respectively, adhered to the predicted directional responses despite their statistical nonsignificance. The methodology proved sensitive to events following the momentary state of information-handling by the individual. It was proposed that averaging of data led to loss of individual sensitivity to reading group events. Individual student attentiveness to different events may be yet studied via this objective technique.

VZTAH PRÁCE SOCIÁLNÍHO PRACOVNÍKA A PSYCHOSOMATICKÝCH OBTÍŽÍ / Relation between worker´s performance and psychosomatic difficulties

GREGOROVÁ, Alena January 2015 (has links)
Gregorová, A., Relation between worker´s performance and psychosomatic difficulties, České Budějovice 2015, Thesis, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Faculty of Theology. Department of Practical Theology, Supervisor PsLic. Jan Vyhnálek The thesis in focuses to psychosomatic symptoms of two choosen respondents it´s research. I choose two respondents, who work in social sector and who suffer by psychosomatic symptoms for a long time. It was a qualitative research. I performed two case works. I used content analysis as a research method. I created theoretical chapters in a reference to the theme and also to provide theoretical basis for symptoms mentioned in my case works to the reader. First target of my thesis was to describe psychosomatic symptoms and health problems of my respondents. The second target was to describe causes of psychosomatic symptoms how respondents see it according to them selves. The third and last target was to find out, if respondents think, that the main source of their psychosomatic symptoms was their privat and family life, or if it was the social work´s performance.

In search of a revised model of health : exploring the relationship between meaning and health

Van Wyk, Hanlie 06 1900 (has links)
Research in Logotherapy substantiates the influence of meaning on psychological health and Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) corroborates the effects of psychological health on physical health. This dissertation explores the relationship between meaning and physical health hypothesising that purpose affects physical health. Methodology Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), ANOVAs and stepwise regression were used to explore three possible models. Results EFA revealed four factors, purpose, fear, vitality and aggression. Significant correlations were found between purpose, vitality (0.42) and work application (0.53). Despite the significant relationship between purpose and vitality, the lack of Chi-square is significant, suggesting that additional variables should be introduced into the model. Conclusion People reporting high levels of purpose together with low levels of fear and aggression, can be characterised by high vitality and an absence of medical conditions. Future research should focus on evaluating meaning centred interventions on immunity and vitality. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Nezaměstnanost a její vliv na zdraví / Unemployment and Its Impact on Health

PULTAROVÁ, Lucie January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis called 'Unemployment and its influence on health' consists of theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part, important terms that are connected to unemployment and labour market are summarized. The definition of the term 'health' is specified and the factors and determinants that influence it are stated as well. The term 'health disorder' and problematics of psychosomatics are discussed too. The practical part is concentrated on examination of the influence of unemployment on health. A quantitative research, method of questioning and questionnaire technique were applied here. The collection of data took place at a regional office of The Jobcentre in České Budějovice. Job seekers registered under this office formed the body of the research. This work has two aims. The first one be the influence of unemployment on health of the unemployed and the second be the finding about the influence of unemployment on development of mental and somatic disorders. The following hypotheses were set up regarding the aims of the work: H1: The unemployed state their health declines during the period of unemployment, H2: Unemployment has a negative effect on mental health of the unemployed, H3: Unemployment has a negative effect on somatic health of unemployed. The hypotheses were not verified during the course of statistical testing. Based on the results of the research, we can deduce that the duration of unemployment doesn't have an impact on the subjective evaluation of physical and mental health. While the duration of unemployment increases, we don't observe any physical or mental heath decline of the unemployed. The conclusions of this research may, however, not be generalized due to the number of respondents and region which was chosen for the research. Statistical testing, however, revealed some interesting facts. These are, for example, the connection between the duration of unemployment and the evaluation of the impact on individual's areas of life, the relation between the duration of unemployment and health state evaluation during the last employment. The research itself could possible serve as a source material or starting point for future studies in this field. The above mentioned findings could after wider research bring knowledge which would be applicable to further practical works with the unemployed.

The Effectiveness of Skin Temperature Biofeedback with versus without Cue-Controlled Training

Goldman, Mark Paul 08 1900 (has links)
This study compared biofeedback assisted cue-controlled skin temperature training with skin temperature biofeedback training in subjects attempting to raise the digital skin temperature of their dominant hand. In addition to classification according to training, the subjects were also divided into two diagnostic groups. One group was composed of subjects with cold hands and Raynaud's disease while the other group consisted of nonRaynaud's disease cold handed subjects. The treatment and diagnostic groups were compared along the dimensions of amount of posttreatment digital skin temperature change and degree of generalization of digital skin temperature control to a cold room challenge task.

Encontro da saúde mental e da saúde pública : estudo analítico-descritivo sobre como pacientes com queixas físicas estabelecem a relação inicial em psicoterapia de orientação psicanalítica /

Garcia, Andréia Sanches. January 2002 (has links)
Abstract: The mental health in the public health follows the historical trajectory that later had origin in European countries and U.S.A. in the postwar period and in the proper Brazilian movement and state native of São Paulo who searchs the humanização through antimanicomiais movements and of democratization of the services. In this historical context, the present research searched to understand as patient inserted in the services of public health, that present physical complaints, they establish the initial relation in psycotherapy of psychoanalític orientation. For in such a way we use studies of the psychosomatic one and we identify that the expression through the body becomes it main way of communication, where this form of representation of the internal contents constitutes the identity of the citizen, and for times, the abandonment of the treatment from the initial interviews occurs as form of maintenance of the symptoms and preservation of the identity constituted. The insertion of the initial interviews in an institution of public health demanded the analysis of the institucional functioning, where the organization of the functions of the institution gifts in its speech is that they produce the subjectivity, being also producing of the exclusion of the individual in result of the instituted institucional conflicts between the practical ones and the movements in course inside of the institution. It concluded the present study that the patients mentioned here establish the initial relation in psycotherapy through the expression of its symptoms, being thus, the use of the technique based in the psychoanalític referencial will be more productive to effect the relation of the language of the symptoms and the history of life of each individual, in detriment of speaks as expression of feelings. / Mestre
