Mediální obraz společností poskytujících nebankovní půjčky / The Medial Portrait of Companies Providing Nonbank Loans

The main theme of this thesis is the non-banking- loans- companies and its medial portrait. The thesis formulates the basic hypotheses related to social status and reputation of non-banking companies. As the research method there was chosen the quantitative content analysis. The research sample consists of the daily papers Hospodářské noviny, MF DNES and some selected economic and political magazines. The research period was divided in two parts: March - June 2010 and September - December 2010. The thesis contents two analysis: the first one contents the results of surveys of the company called Provident Financial. The second one is an analysis of advertising in the daily papers MF DNES and Hospodářské noviny. The results of the analysis of advertising didn't confirm one of the main hypotheses assuming that the non-banking -loans- companies have any impact on the content of investigated media. And vice versa, other hypotheses were confirmed by results of the quantitative content analysis. The result of the analysis is that the non-banking-loans- companies are presented as companies working within the standards of law and which are entitled to a place in the financial market.

Diploma Thesis "Analysis of Czech dailies' content in relation to political parties during election campaign before municipal elections in Prague" presupposes that media and politics influence each other very strongly. In the theoretical part it first presents the media's role in society and describes the journalists' role evolution. Using the concept of mediatization it explains the media and political logic(s) inter-relation. In the next chapter it presents the historical development of political communication with regards to its ongoing transformation. After that it explains several concepts that are used when describing this process. Particularly it presents the concept of personalization and describes its two forms followed by definitions and critical evaluation of the concepts. In the empirical part it first presents the parties, dailies and municipal elections in the Czech Republic. Using the research method of quantitative content analysis it tries to find out the amount of attention/space that parties and candidates got in the newspapers during eleven weeks before the municipal elections in Prague in 2010. As a second step it tries to find out the level of personalization and its pre-defined forms. In the final part it presents the results and suggests possible extensions of the research.

This thesis is called "Bereavement of eminent personalities: Comparison of Media Representation of Václav Havel and Kim Jong-il in the Czech Media." Its focus is on the media coverage of Václav Havel's and Kim Jong-il's death in the Czech Republic National dailies. The theoretical part deals with how mass media use and process media events, especially the one's related to the death of publicly known persons. The thesis also addresses ritual function of media events and their role in society integration. Another chapter of the thesis explains how media inform the public about deaths of well-known people and what their function is in this context. As Václav Havel was and still is called a national hero, a phenomenon of a hero and its development from history up to date is also presented in the paper. The practical part consists of quantitative content analysis which provides concrete topics that were covered by Czech dailies in regards with Václav Havel's and Kim Jong-il's death. The diploma thesis "Media Construction of the Past: Image of the Period of Normalization in the Czech Non-fiction Television Shows after the Year 2006" looks into media construction during normalization period in television shows, which mark themselves as journalistic. The two following methods are used to analyze chosen thematic units broadcasted between the years 2007-2012: quantitative content analysis and semiotic analysis. Content analysis besides other things provides information about the frequency of occurrence of specialists in the field of social sciences, both movies and period footage as well as Slovak speaking people in non- fiction television shows such as Retro, Historie.cs, Víkend and Střepiny. Semiotic analysis notices denotative meaning of two examined units as well as opening jingle of Retro and Historie.cs shows and subsequently interprets used components. Based on this interpretation myths associated with construction of both normalization and the past are deciphered. The diploma thesis Analysis of the political instrumentalization of the periodic press Mladá fronta DNES in the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013 examines, if leader of the political party ANO Andrej Babiš used his position of the owner of the media group MAFRA to influence media content in the periodic press Mlada fronta DNES during the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013. Theoretical framework briefly describes the basic concepts of political communication and geopolitical division of the models of political communication including the Czech media scene. Focus is primarily on the development and possible ways of instrumentalization of printed media operating in the Czech media market after 1989. Results of quantitative research showed that four other political parties gained more media attention then political party ANO which ended up second in the election. The title pages of the Mlada fronta DNES therefore was not used to increase promotion of Andrej Babis and his political party. Vliv inzerentů na obsah lifestylových médií / The Influence of Advertisers on Media Content of Lifestyle Magazines

The aim of this thesis is to find out whether advertisers can influence the content of lifestyle media. The first part of this work deals with the theory of media economics, the market of printed magazines and the various influences on the media; followed by a definition of the ethical and legal framework for advertising. It also includes a description of selected media, an overview of their market position and the degree of financial dependence on advertising. Two lifestyle magazines, namely Cosmopolitan, representing women's magazines, and ForMen, as a men-oriented magazine, were selected for analysis. The second part of the thesis deals with the definition of the methodological framework and the description of the research method used, i.e. quantitative content analysis. Three different phenomena are explored using six research sub-questions, namely the ratio of advertising and editorial content, the degree of linking advertising with editorial materials (brand reciprocity), and finally the use of advertorials, their labelling and distinguishability from other content. Diploma thesis Stars, points, percentage: the influence of critics reviews on the Czech cinema attendance aims to verify whether reviews and critics in printed and electronic media affect how many viewers see the movie in the cinema. Besides this main question, this study is also focused on other hypotheses associated with the general notion that a professional film critic, as an expert, has higher demands on audiovisual works, and therefore films rated in professional journals have a lower rating than when they are evaluated in the media intended for the general public. The theoretical framework of the thesis briefly deals with the definition and historical development of criticism at first in general and then with the critics and reviews of film. It also outlines the evolution of cinematography and film as media and art. In addition, some other factors that may affect cinema attendance are mentioned. The last passage summarizes the current foreign and domestic studies and works dealing with similar topics. In the research part, all the films that premiered in our country from 2006 to 2015 were analyzed by the quantitative method. There were almost 2,300 films, which were reviewed in Cinepur and Cinema magazines, on iDNES.cz and aktualne.cz news servers and Moviezone.cz, Kinobox.cz and ČSFD web portals....

Vem får delta i debatten? : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av debattsidor i svensk press. / Who gets to participate in the debate? : A quantitative content analysis of the debate journalism in the Swedish press

This study aims to show who the most common participants of the debates in the Swedish press are, when it comes to gender, social status and the subjects that are debated. To investigate this, a quantitative content analysis was used, counting and analysing all the debate articles from ten swedish newspapers between 1st April 2018 and 31st May 2018. There were 723 articles included in our study, and debate articles that were replies to other debates and those which were less than 1500 digits were excluded. The articles were analysed according to their length, which newspaper they came from, what gender the debator had, what the subject of the debate was, the actuality of the debate and the debators social status. The result of the study shows that men are more frequently appearing in the debates than women, and the most common debator in the Swedish press is a politician that debates politics and political proposals. It also shows that men and women tend to debate different subjects, as men are more frequent debators in subjects like trade and industry, international affairs and immigration, and women are more frequent when it comes to healthcare, education and environmental issues.

This study’s aim was to explore how the social media Twitter is used by Swedish political leaders and how they manage the relationship between having both private and public conversations in a new public sphere, the social sphere. In Sweden, studies in this area are yet to grow. We achieved our aim by responding to our three questions at the issue: What kind of content is published in each of the politicians Twitter stream? Are the politicians private or public persons on Twitter? Are the politicians using Twitters interactive functions? We conducted our analysis by performing a quantitative content analysis. Our material consisted of Twits published by two selected Swedish politicians between September 1st to September 23rd, 2010. We based our study and results around the discussion of private, public and social spheres along with political communication. / Målet med denna studie var att undersöka hur det sociala mediet Twitter används av svenska politiska ledare och hur de hanterar relationen mellan privata och offentliga samtal i en ny offentlig sfär, den sociala sfären. I Sverige finns ännu inte tillräckligt många studier av detta slag. Vi uppnådde vårt mål genom att svara på våra tre frågeställningar: Vilken typ av innehåll publiceras i de respektive politikernas Twitterflöden? Är politikerna privata eller offentliga personer på Twitter? Använder sig politikerna av Twitters sociala funktioner? Vi genomförde vår analys med hjälp av metoden kvantitativ innehållsanalys. Vårt material bestod av Twitterinlägg publicerade av två utvalda svenska politiker mellan 1 september och 23 september 2010. Vi baserade vår studie och våra resultat på diskussioner kring privata, offentliga och sociala sfärer samt politisk kommunikation.
