Nyhetsradio : Om skillnaderna i korta riksnyhetssändningar mellan två kommersiella radiostationer och public serviceradion.

Olausson, Daniel, Sundberg, Erik January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this BA-thesis was to learn the differences in news broadcasts between one public service radio channel and two commercial radio channels. To do this we used a quantitative analysis method to examine the content of the news broadcasts and then we conducted in-depth interviews with several people working with the different radio channels using a qualitative research interview method to learn their views on news and news broadcasting. We measured the differences between the channels in six areas: subject, headline, news presentation, gender, advertising and sources. Our two main theories were normative theory and media logic. The results found that there were several major differences between the public service radio channel and the two commercial radio channels. Apart from several important differences in the six measured categories we also found that the sound and tone in the public service radio channel was very different from the two commercial radio channels. We also found the public service radio channels news broadcasts to be more serious than the two commercials ones’.

Två skidåkare i kvällspressen : - En studie om rapporteringen kring Charlotte Kalla och Marcus Hellner i OS 2010 och OS 2014 / Two cross-country skiers in the tabloids : - A study of the tabloids coverage of Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner in the 2010 Olympics and the 2014 Olympics

Stenvall, Johan January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the two Swedish cross-country skiers, Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner are portrayed in the tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen. The study is based on theories of sports journalism, media- and gender studies. Within these theories there are beliefs that men and women are portrayed differently in sports journalism. Sports journalism is described as a subject where there is a hierarchy in which the man is often framed as dominant in relationship to the woman. This study was made in an attempt to examine whether this was the case in the Swedish tabloid magazines Aftonbladet and Expressens coverage of the winter Olympics. Articles published about Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 were analyzed by a quantitative content analysis. The two athletes were selected because they during the time of the study were prominent in their sport in which both achieved similar success. The results of the study showed that there were differences in Aftonbladet and Expressen’s media coverage of Charlotte Kalla and Marcus Hellner. Kalla appeared in more numbers of articles than Hellner but she was often described as weak and her physical appearance was often highlighted. Hellner was often described as strong and focused regardless of whether he had failed or was successful.

The most popular target for political satire was Jiří Paroubek former leader of ČSSD due to his nature and physiognomy. This was true for MF Dnes and Lidové noviny. In Právo no concrete politican was drawn by V. Renčín in both years. In the first place topic Election was in 2006 in all papers, in 2010 only for MF Dnes it was Nr 1. In other paper most important topics were morality and demenaurs of politicans. This Thesis confirmed that left-winged paper Právo is not tending to the righ-wing ridiculing. On the contrary, the other newspapers, Lidové noviny and MF Dnes, both being right-wing newspapers, published the...

Zpravodajství České tiskové kanceláře z Latinské Ameriky / The news of Czech news agency from Latin America

Kovácsová, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis The news of Czech News Agency from Latin America is to document the form of the Czech News Agency's text news from Latin America, to reveal whether the agency fulfills its obligation to inform about events abroad according to Act No. 517/92 Coll., and also to expand the very limited number of studies related to this topic. This work deals with news agencies and takes into consideration the CTK as a public institution and outlines the characteristics of Latin America and its relations with our country. Using quantitative content analysis, I find out how much space CTK spends on the countries of the North, Central and South America, which countries are re-informing and which countries virtually ignore in its news. I examine what priority messages are usually assigned and which areas of public life are concerned. Last but not least, I compare the monitored reality from the first half of 2016 to the first half of 2006 to reveal how much informing about Latin America has changed over the course of a decade. At thesis I provide a detailed analysis of Czech News Agency's production from Latin American countries, which no one has ever dealt with in the Czech environment so far, and present the results of my analysis in the tables and charts.

"Metoo var bara det första steget" : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om Dagens Nyheters gestaltning av sexualbrott före och efter #metoo / "Metoo was just the first step" : A quantitative content analysis about Dagens Nyheters framing of sexual offenses before and after #metoo

Andersson, Ronja January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor study was to examine and analyze if there were any difference in how Dagens Nyheter framed sexual crimes before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017. Framing theory was used to categorize different frames in the reporting of sexual crimes in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The research question was: which frames are the most common in Dagens Nyheters framing of sexual crimes and how common are these frames? Is there any difference in what frames appear in Dagens Nyheter before and after the metoo movements peak in 2017?  With a quantitative content analysis I could examine how often the frames were used by Dagens Nyheter and if it was any different after the metoo movements peak in 2017. A total of 869 articles were analyzed. 240 articles in 2014, 322 articles in 2017 and 307 articles in 2020. By using framing theory, ten frames were identified. “police report and legal process”, “sexual offenses linked to religion”, “sexual offenses as a societal problem”, “sexual offense legislation and criticism”, “men with power”, “fact about sexual offenses”, “sexual offenses as a metaphor”, “victim of sexual offenses”, “accused of sexual offenses” and “other”.  The result of the examine showed that the most used frame was “police report and legal process”. In the period of 2014 the second most used frame was “sexual offense legislation and criticism”. In the period of 2017 the second most used frame was “victim of sexual offenses” and in the period of 2020 the second most used frame was “sexual offenses as a societal problem”. The biggest difference before and after metoo movement that were found was the frame “accused of sexual offenses”. In 2014 it was not found at all while in 2020 it was one of the more common frames.

”Det finns inte en planet B” : En studie om hur klimatförändringarna gestaltas i dagspress i Sverige och Finland / "There is no planet B" : A study about how daily newspapers in Finland and Sweden frame climate change

Bjurs, Sofia January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor study is to examine and analyze how climate change was reported in Finnish and Swedish press in 2019. Framing theory was used to categorize different frames when reporting on climate change, in total 214 articles were analyzed, of which 127 were from Svenska Dagbladet and 87 from Hufvudstadsbladet.   The research questions were: which news frames can be distinguished in Svenska Dagbladet and Hufvudstadsbladet in 2019? Which news frames dominate in articles about climate change in Svenska Dagbladet and Hufvudstadsbladet in 2019? Based on earlier studies and framing theory, what might any eventual differences be due to?   A quantitative content analysis was conducted based on Dirikx and Gelders (2009) framing study in Dutch and French newspapers. The coding-manual answered which frames that were used and the alternatives were, the conflict frame, the economic consequences frame, the responsibility frame and the human interest frame. Out of these four frames the conflict frame and the responsibility frame were the most occurring. The largest difference between Svenska Dagbladet and Hufvudstadsbladet that were found was that Svenska Dagbladet uses the human interest frame more than Hufvudstadsbladet and that Hufvudstadsbladet had more articles with the conflict frame and the economic consequences frame.

Exploratory Study on the Drivers and Barriers to Adoption of an Integrated Library System in Kyambogo University Library Service

Buwule, Robert Stalone January 2014 (has links)
The adoption of Integrated Library Systems (ILS) helps library staff to automate libraries’ routine operations. While some libraries are coping well with automation, others most especially in Sub Saharan Africa face challenges and setbacks. The purpose of the study is to explore the adoption of an open source ILS, Koha, at Kyambogo University Library Service (KyULS). The study employs a qualitative approach where data is gathered using semi-structured interviews. Collected data was analysed using content analysis. The results of the study indicate that the drivers for adopting an ILS in KyULS are: qualified staff members, Koha being an open source software, training, and library automation trends in sister university libraries. The barriers to ILS adoption on the other hand included: lack of infrastructure, internet instability, insufficient funding, bureaucracy and the ILS’s unsuitability to persons with visual impairment. This report further provides recommendations to alleviate or resolve the difficulties that are hampering KyULS specifically and potentially other libraries when adopting ILSs. They include having a well-planned process of adopting the ILS, provision of a centralised and stable campus-wide inter/intranet network, establishment of required ILS infrastructure, sourcing of external funding, carrying out wide spread sensitisation of the ILS, continuously training the library staff members in the use of the ILS and collaboration with ILS adoption champions in other academic libraries. This study may be of value to academic librarians, LIS schools and ILS vendors globally as it helps them better understand the unique challenges faced by libraries in Sub-Saharan Africa. / Dissertation (MIT)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / Information Science / MIT / Unrestricted

Vánoce v české vizuální kultuře / Christmas and Czech Visual Culture

Růžičková, Aneta January 2018 (has links)
The main aim of this thesis is to find out how the Christmas holidays are represented in products of Czech visual culture. This representation could have changed in times, based on cultural influences and ideologies and in terms of particular product where Christmas was represented. We'd like to evaluate if the constant representations of Christmas which are anchored in our culture still exist. In theoretical part of the thesis we focus on historical development of displaying Christmas in Czech region. The analytical part of thesis analyses television broadcast of four Czech area-wide channels during Christmas time in 2017 and observes which cultural influences are contained in. Other part of thesis looks into visual culture and pictures. For we mainly focus on television in analytical part, another part of thesis includes information about this media and about particularity of mass media in general. For analysis of media information we've chosen a combination of two type of research: quantitative content analysis and semiotic analysis.

Analýza prezentace motivu slumu a života v něm v českých médiích v letech 2010-2017 / Analysis of Presentation of Motif of Slum and Life in it in Czech Media in 2010-2017

Kučerová, Zuzana January 2020 (has links)
The thesis deals with the media presentation of world slums in the Czech environment throughout 2010-2017. According to the latest estimates, more than one billion people live in slums today. It is safe to assume that the population in these slums will grow in the next decades. Most slums are located in the urban areas of developing states, which have higher urbanisation rates compared to the more developed countries. Slums are crowded places in cities where the residents live in substandard conditions that includes lack of drinking water, poor sanitation, lack of sewerage and health care and so on. The thesis focuses on the media coverage of five slums (Kibera, Dharavi, Khayelitsha, Ciudad Neza and Orangi Town), which rank among the biggest in the world. The work briefly summarizes the social construction of reality theory according to T. Berger and P. L. Luckmann, the media construct of reality and news value. It explains the concepts of slum, developing country, urbanisation, and the refugee crisis. It examines the texts by combining quantitative and qualitative content analysis. Quantitative content analysis is based on three research questions and six hypotheses. Newton Media database used for the research provided relevant contributions from newspapers, magazines and their internet mutations,...
