Communicating compliance : A qualitative research of safety information within blue collar industries in Sweden and Norway and an onboarding design proposal of a regulatory compliance app

Meijer, Karolina January 2023 (has links)
Which solutions exist within the blue collar industries in Sweden and Norway today for conveying safety information to its employees? How may one re-design an understandable onboarding process to a digital app for Swedish-speaking blue collar workers? This study set out to research these questions, collaborating with Inphiz Technologies AB, a SaaS company in Stockholm, Sweden who has created a digital service to manage and automate legislative and regulatory compliance data in blue collar industries. The objective of the study was to answer the research questions and to create a design proposal for the users first steps into the Inphiz app through an onboarding process. Qualitative research methods were conducted throughout a design process with a PACT framework and a case study approach from March 13th to May 25th 2023, in different parts of Sweden. The collected data was aggregated and analysed through affinity diagrams. Results from the analysis showed clear patterns of the workers difficulties in following through with legislative and regulatory compliance due to a dissonance between internal and external demands. Blue collar workers within the construction industry worked under conditions where a trade-off between security and economy existed. However, engagement through all levels of the organisation supported the maintaining and cultivation of a safety culture, affecting the behaviours and attitudes of the employees. Digital tools concerning compliance and communication were moreover perceived as beneficial to the organisation, but in companies where they were present, the onboarding of the employees demanded a lot of resources and convincing of the tools benefits. Furthermore, having users finding the aha moment early the digital prototype and using explorative learning made them realise the benefits of the app. As a summary, this paper gives perspective on the organisational and environmental context of a blue collar worker with regards to safety information and how cognitive strategies can improve the onboarding UX of a digital app. Recommendations in carrying out similar research would be to increase the level of user participation.

Design och Utveckling Av Gränssnitt för SkiSelector / Design and Development of a Graphical User Interface for SkiSelector

Nilsson, David January 2024 (has links)
This study aims to investigate how visual representation of a product can be modified to enhance user support and decision-making for non-experts. The research explores three main questions: What are the issues with the current visualization for non-experts? How can visualization be leveraged to improve user understanding of skis?  How can visual representation of a product be altered to improve support in the sales process and aid non-expert decision-making? The study found that improving aspects of the user interface can enhance the user's ability to utilize information. The results indicate that the modifications made during the study increased the users' understanding and readability of the SkiSelector interface. Users' comprehension and readability of the interface are directly related to visualization and the application process, which in this case is selecting the right ski for a customer. Modifying elements of the interface, where all data relies on a complex and meaningful graph, can improve the understanding of the entire interface. Breaking down the graph into simpler visualizations can accelerate the sales process by enabling users to quickly identify patterns and draw conclusions. Even minor changes in the interface, such as unused graphs and texts, can impact user focus and readability during the process. However, adding clear texts that explain specific information to non-experts can improve their experience. To address these questions, the study employed a design research methodology (DRM) and conducted design reviews with SkiSelector users (ski salesman) and the company behind SkiSelector (Elpex). In conclusion, this study emphasizes the importance of visual representation in product design and sales processes, particularly for non-experts. The results offer insights into how the user interface can be modified to improve user comprehension and support decisionmaking, thereby benefiting both ski sellers and customers.

Aerodynamic Validation of Emerging Projectile Configurations

Sor, Wei Lun 01 November 2012
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. / Ever-increasing demands for accuracy and range in modern warfare have expedited the optimization of projectile design. The crux of projectile design lies in the understanding of its aerodynamic properties early in the design phase. This research first investigated the aerodynamic properties of a standard M549, 155mm projectile. The transonic speed region was the focus of the research as significant aerodynamic variation occurs within this particular region. Aerodynamic data from wind tunnel and range testing was benchmarked against modern aerodynamic prediction programs like ANSYS CFX and Aero-Prediction 09 (AP09). Next, a comparison was made between two types of angle of attack generation methods in ANSYS CFX. The research then focused on controlled tilting of the projectile’s nose to investigate the resulting aerodynamic effects. ANSYS CFX was found to provide better agreement with the experimental data than AP09.

Représentation et analyse algébriques de système de solides sur-contraints en boucle fermée / Algebraic representation and analysis of over-constrained closed-loop mechanisms

Ali, Anissa 11 July 2016 (has links)
An assembly can be partitioned into three mobility states: the impossible state, the rigid state and the mobile state. The study focuses in over-constrained closed-loop assemblies. During the process of design or re-design, the dimensions of the assembly can vary and this can lead to the loss of its mobility state. The method presented in this thesis aims at helping the designer to resize an assembly. There exist relationships between the dimension of the assembly that ensure the closure and the mobility of over-constrained. These relationships called assembly equations and mobility conditions are hence necessary to resize an over-constrained solid assembly. Assembly equations and mobility conditions are computed by a computer algebra tool: Gröbner bases. However, the algebraic solving using Gröbner bases can be costly and may fail because of unreasonable computing time, this is the main reason of the strategies described in this thesis. The approach proposed in this thesis is composed of two main steps. First of all, an algebraic representation of a closed assembly and a mobile assembly is descibed. The closed-loop equations are written by using a coordinate free method and the mobility equations are generated from the closed-loop equations using direct and incremental methods. To simplify the computation of assembly equations and mobility conditions an algebraic analysis that rely on numerical analysis tools is proposed. Starting from a set of values of the parameters that describe the assembly to resize, the mobility state of the assembly is determined. Then, if the designer want to change the mobility state, a new set of values that have the mobility state chosen by the designer is generated. Once the initial set of values has the right mobility state, some dimensions are specialized to ease the computation of assembly equations and mobility conditions. However, if the parameters chosen are linked or its number is to high, there is a high chance that the study lead to no solution. Strategies to avoid these problems are also proposed. Finally, the tools developped in Maple® software that illustrate the methods proposed are described and an interactive tool that permits the designer to visualize the solutions of the closed-loop equations, assembly equations and mobility conditions computed after specialisation is proposed.

Patient and health care professional views of re-designing services in primary care

Mayes, Nicola January 2011 (has links)
Background: Increased pressure, rising demand and cost constraints have driven a need for radical service re-design in the NHS. To deliver re-design objectives it is necessary to understand how they are perceived by service users and providers. Aim: To investigate the views of patients and health care professionals (HCP) on aspects of health policy and service re-design affecting primary care. Setting: Patients and HCPs from one geographical area in England. Method: Themes from phase one qualitative interviews were explored quantitatively using a questionnaire in phase two and a discrete choice experiment (DCE) in phase three. Factor analysis was used to explore HCP responses in phase two. In phase three the DCE was administered to explore patients‟ relative priorities of a range of attributes. Results: HCPs had concerns that the Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) detracted from the patient‟s agenda and did not improve health outcomes. GPs felt continuity of care was important Monday through Friday but were not keen on its provision out of hours. Neither did they feel nurses could run chronic disease management clinics without a GP present. Patients felt continuity could be provided by different HCPs for different conditionsPatients stated continuity of care and consultation duration were the most important attributes in a primary care service. However, in the DCE they prioritised both being seen on the day and by a GP over longer appointments. Patient preference to be seen by a GP may reflect the low uptake of non-medical prescribing in the area. Conclusion: Continuity of care, while remarked as being important to both HCPs and patients, appears less important when weighted against other primary care service attributes. HCPs appear to want longer consultations whereas patients saw time as encompassing both the time to wait for an appointment and consultation length. For patients, the quality of the time with a HCP may be more important than its duration, additionally patients appear to want choice but not necessarily to choose.

Evaluation model of a supply chain's sustainability performance and risk assessment model towards a redesign process : case study at Kuehne + Nagel Luxembourg / Modèle d'évaluation de la performance d'une chaîne logistique durable et modèle d'évaluation des risques du processus de reconception : étude de cas chez Kuehne + Nagel Luxembourg

Winter, Anne 25 November 2016 (has links)
Les résultats qui découlent du modèle doivent être considérés comme étant une aide à la décision / Ln the present work, the sustainabillty concept has been redeflned so that common understanding can be guaranteed. Subsequently, a model intended to evaluate an existent supply chain's overall degree of sustainability has been developed and empirically tested through a case study. Considering the approach of continuous improvement, this evaluation should be followed by a redesign of the considered supply chain. However, a risk assessment needs to be done ex-ante. Forthis reason, a risk Identification and quantification model has been evolved. This model may consider bath, the risks leading to the redesign process and the risks resultlng from the redesign phase. A case study, which considers the risks leading to a redesign phase, has been implemented so that the model's feasibility in a real business' environment can be proved. The model's outcomes must not be mistaken for ultimate results but need to be considered being a decision support for managers.

Analyse et amélioration des performances d’un système complexe par pilotage et par re-conception / Performance analysis and improvement of a complex system through control and re-design

Samet, Bacem 11 March 2019 (has links)
Complex systems having a long period of service are large scale systems that typically have stochastic behavior. In this thesis, we study, in particular, one type of these systems: the Bike Sharing System. The operating principle of this transport service consists of a fleet of bikes disposed in various stations. The users come to take bicycles to use them for their trip and then bring them back in any stations. As these systems are supposed to operate for long periods, new requirements can overcome (eg. station attractiveness) and performance degradation may occur. A decision support tool is thus required to analyze and improve the performance by control operations (eg. fleet size change) or re-design (eg. changing the capacity of a station). The stochastic modeling approach is used through a network of queues with limited capacity queues and a blocking mechanism. The resolution method of the proposed model is defined in the research work of Kouvatsos (1994).The case study is a sub-network of 20 Vélib's stations in Paris. The performance analysis according to exogenous changes and improvement operations (control and re-design) allowed us to deduce recommendations that can improve the performance of the system. As the method of solving this model has a great complexity, we propose a method of aggregation of the stations to reduce the size of the problem by having controllable errors. This method is implemented and evaluated for a particular system where all the parameters are homogeneous. Finally, the study of this method for a non-homogeneous system and other perspectives are proposed to extend this research work.
