This is a panel study of 148 students between the ages of 16 and 19 who are enrolled in a three year practical nursing education programme. The aim of the study is to investigate the socialisation process into the nursing world by studying specific attitudes towards nursing, elderly people and general life values and beliefs. Another aim is to locate this groups position in the nursing education context. Part of the study is a description of differences between registered and practical nurses. Some of these are their professionalism, their attitudes to knowledge, their respective trade union actions and the development of a hospital culture. The development of a separated and a coordinated education route for registered and practical and nurses is also analysed. Data for the panel study were collected every year by questionnaires and groups discussions. The results show that the majority of the students are empathetic towards patients. The majority have also had difficult experiences during their student nursing practice associated with their encounter with death. Two out of five students spend a considerable amount of time with elderly. Most respondents experience a sense of security from the elderly and feel that what they have to say is important. Approximately 30 percent of the students give helping the elderly as the reason for entering the practical nursing programme. However, only about 11 percent want to work with the elderly in their future jobs as practical nurses. The majority of the students feel that life is meaningful and almost half of them regard their future prospects as bright. The only apparent connection between different attitudes is the one between religious belief and wanting to work with old people. A larger share of religious students are prepared to work in old age care. L'étendue de la pratique chez les infirmières cliniciennes et les infirmièresLampron, Kim 01 1900 (has links)
Dans le cadre de cette étude, nous nous sommes intéressés aux infirmières soignantes qui possèdent un diplôme d’études collégiales ou un baccalauréat. L’infirmière est celle ayant reçu une formation collégiale et la clinicienne, une formation universitaire de premier cycle. Au niveau législatif, selon que l’infirmière soit titulaire ou non d’un baccalauréat, le champ de pratique autorisé demeure le même. Cependant, l’étendue de la pratique pourrait varier selon la formation reçue et le poste occupé. Cette étude descriptive et interprétative de type qualitatif avait pour but de décrire l’étendue de la pratique des infirmières et des infirmières cliniciennes dans une unité de médecine et de chirurgie et d’identifier les facteurs organisationnels influençant l’étendue de la pratique. Le cadre de référence ayant été utilisé est le cadre d’analyse de l’étendue de la pratique conçu pour le Collège des infirmières autorisées de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CRNNS, 2005). Selon ce cadre, l’étendue optimale de la pratique des infirmières se divise en 4 catégories distinctes, soit le processus de soins infirmiers, les pratiques relationnelles, le leadership ainsi que l’enseignement et le transfert des connaissances. La collecte de données a été conduite au moyen d’entrevues individuelles semi-structurées auprès de 8 informateurs clés soit trois infirmières et trois infirmières cliniciennes d’une unité de médecine et de chirurgie et de deux gestionnaires. Les résultats semblent montrer que les différentes composantes de l’étendue de la pratique sont mobilisées tant chez les infirmières que chez les infirmières cliniciennes interviewées. Toutefois, les résultats semblent montrer que certaines composantes, soit le leadership et le transfert des connaissances, semblent davantage mobilisées chez les infirmières cliniciennes. De plus, l’étude a permis d’identifier les différents facteurs organisationnels qui semblent influencer l’étendue de la pratique des infirmières et des infirmières cliniciennes. La charge de travail semble être le principal facteur d’influence. Nous avons aussi pu constater l’influence certaines composantes reliées à l’environnement de travail et à la composition et aux caractéristiques des équipes de soins. / The goal of this descriptive and interpretative study was to first describe the scope of nursing practice of registered nurses with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and those with a nursing diploma in a medical and surgical unit of a regional hospital. The second goal was to identify the organizational factors that influence the scope of nursing practice in that unit. The framework that has been used is the Framework to Analyse Scope of practice, made for the College of Registered Nurses in Nova Scotia (CRNNS, 2005). According to that framework, the full scope of practice of the registered nurse is divided in 4 components: the nursing process, the professional nursing relationships, the leadership and the fonction of teaching and knowledge transfert. For this study, 8 interviews have been realized. The participants were: 3 nurses with a nursing diploma, 3 nurses with a bachelor’s degree and 2 administrators. The results seems to show that all the components of the nursing scope of practice seems to be used by the nurses with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and those with a nursing diploma. But, the results seem to show that the nursing scope of practice is not fully extended in that unit. We remarked also that two elements of the nursing scope of practice, the leadership and the teaching and knowledge transfert, are more used by nursed with a Bachelor’s degree, compared to those with a nursing diploma. The principal factors which seem to influence the scope of nursing practice in this unit are the nursing workload and some components according to the work environment and to the composition and caracteristics of the nursing teams.

Criteria, according to which the e-commerce taxation jurisdiction is applicable, are given herein. Collection of direct taxes of e-commerce in performance of e-commerce activities via server as well as permanent registered office is analyzed.

Vad somkommunicerats har stor betydelse för patienternas fortsatta vård och sjuksköterskornasupplevelse av överrapportering. Bristande överrapportering kan få konsekvenser som sämrevårdkvalité och ökad risk för komplikationer för patienterna. Syfte: Att beskriva anestesi-ochintensivvårdssjuksköterskors upplevelser av överrapportering av postoperativa patienter. Metod:Intervjuer genomfördes i form av fokusgrupper, en med anestesisjuksköterskor och en medintensivvårdssjuksköterskor. Materialet analyserades enligt kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat:Fem huvudkategorier: Behov av att dubbelkolla och dubbeldokumentera, att inte veta vilkeninformation som är relevant och sakna förståelse för varandra, att den postoperativaavdelningen är rörig och orsakar störningar i överrapportering, attoperationssjuksköterskornas överrapportering är viktig och behov av att överrapportera vidpatienterna och upprätthålla fullständig sekretess. Slutsats: Tydliga rutiner behövs gällande vadpostoperativ överrapportering ska innehålla, samt utveckling av samarbete mellan de som deltar iöverrapportering. Behov av att kunna genomföra överrapportering vid patienterna men ändåupprätthålla sekretess var ett komplext område. Operationssjuksköterskans deltagande iöverrapportering var ett av de största förbättringsområden som framkom denna studie.

Factors contributing to absenteeism amongst nurses: a management perspectiveNyathi, N'wamakhuvele Maria 28 February 2005 (has links)
Quantitative, descriptive research was conducted to determine which factors contribute to absenteeism among nurses. A structured self-administered questionnaire was administered to the entire population of nurses who worked at a district hospital in the Limpopo Province. Statistical data analysis, involving factor analysis, frequencies and Chi-squares was performed. The findings revealed that various factors related to the characteristics of the nurse, characteristics of the manager, characteristics of the work and characteristics of the organisation contribute to absenteeism. Professional nurses and sub-professional nurses, as well as nurses younger than 40 and nurses who are 40 years and older, appeared to disagree on the extent to which various factors contribute to absenteeism in the workplace. This study was aimed at assisting organisations and managers in reducing absenteeism in the workplace, and by doing so, improving the quality of care. / Health Studies / MA (HEALTH STUDIES)

The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive study was to describe how registered nurses
utilise teachable moments to enhance students' learning in the clinical setting. The research
questions were: What are the problems faced by registered nurses when they teach students in the
clinical setting? and How do registered nurses utilise teachable moments to teach students? A pilot
study was conducted in the clinical setting involving the respondents who had similar
characteristics than the population. The sample consisted of 45 registered nurses who provided
direct patient care in the clinical setting. A self administered, structured questionnaire was
used to collect data. Data analysis was done by using descriptive statistical tests. The findings
brought to light strengths and weaknesses with regard to the utilisation of teachable moments by
registered nurses, and problems faced by registered nurses with regard to clinical accompaniment in
general. Recommendations to improve clinical accompaniment by registered nurses through effective
utilisation of teachable moments were made. Further research was recommended to explore some

The dissertation thesis deals with the issue of registered partnership and with the attitudes of predominantly homosexual public to that institute, new from both social and legal perspective. The task of the delimitation of theoretical context is to state basic concepts related to the topic. That part deals further with registered partnership, its legal and social aspects in selected European Union countries. The research part includes processing and evaluation of data got by quantitative method of questioning, when opinions of homosexual, heterosexual and bisexual respondents on the current legal regulation of homosexual couples were ascertained with the help of anonymous questionnaire investigation. Also the method of qualitative research in form of group discussion was chosen for processing of the empirical part of the thesis. The goal of the thesis was to ascertain whether the legislation is convenient from the point of view of homosexual couples and whether there are not any forms of discrimination with regard to sexuality. The author deals marginally also the sphere of parenthood in the research part and ascertains whether more female or male couples live together. Last but not least she tries to outline the issue of discrimination. The thesis allows viewing the attitudes of heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual respondents to selected discrimination areas of this issue.

Rodiny homosexuálních partnerů / The Families of the Homosexual PartnersEMROVÁ, Monika January 2009 (has links)
The present diploma thesis explores the issue of families made up by homosexual partners. The reasons for choosing such subjekt were based on my focus on this area. The goal of the thesis was to compare opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people collected from two groups, a group of heterosexuals and a group of homosexuals. The following hypothesis was postulated at the beinning of the survey: There are signifiant discrepancies between opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood according to sexual orientation retrieved from groups of heterosexuals and homosexuals. The surveyed contingent comprised of two respondent groups. The homosexuals were included in the first one, the heterosexuals were entered into the second one. The first group included those female and male homosexuals who in one way or another keep in touch with the South-Bohemian Lambda. The second group comprised of female and male heterosexuals. A respondent from the latter group had to match a respondent from the former one in three given criteria (sex, age, and education). The survey objectives were achieved by way of asking questions. Doing so questionnaires were employed as the essentials tool. The hypothesis was confirmed. The outcome showed that heterosexuals and homosexuals have different opinions on possible forms of coexistence in partnership and parenthood of homosexual people. The results accomplished and published in this thesis are available for further studies and researches in this area and they can be used in teaching. The present thesis may also give feedback to the South-Bohemian Lambda which might find the survey´s findings very intersting.

This thesis is devoted to the nonprofit sector entities in the social sphere, which are an important tool that is used primarily for removing social exclusion in society. Social services help clients ensure the physical and mental independence so that they can participate in the daily life of society as much as possible. The aim of my thesis was to analyze the activities of selected nonprofit sector entities in the social sector, focusing on management and economics. These entities were then compared. It was concluded that all companies are the largest source of funding grants, and all companies also form long-term strategic plan of the company. The two organizations use volunteer work. And further that the future development of nonprofit organizations in social services is positive and the number is growing. It is primarily due to the aging population.

Comparative study on key factors within the roles and functions of professional nurses working in different nursing unitsKhosa, Khazamula Phineas 05 1900 (has links)
The aim o f this study was to determine the key factors within the
roles and functions of professional nurses working in different
nursing units with the purpose for motivation for their compensation
in accordance with their performance. A comparative, descriptive
design was employed.
Findings reveal that the professional nurse’s roles and functions in
the different units show that there are some significant differences
regarding certain activities while differences pertaining to other
activities were not significant. However, there were factors which
were subjected to a number o f limitations during the study.
Apart from the significant differences, it thus appears as if the roles
and functions required o f professional nurses working in the three
disciplines do not vary much in content and intensity.
From the findings o f this study, it therefore, does not appear as if
paediatric professional nurses have a valid reason for expecting
