Women and men's perception of the effect of unemployment of the male partner on gender role perception, family communication and relational power within the familyNicolaai, Celeste January 1998 (has links)
Magister Artium (Human Ecology) - MA(HE) / The research focused on 60 coloured, Afrikaans-speaking men and women residing in Bell ville South who completed a structured questionnaire and open-ended interview questions. Their perceptions held on the influence of male unemployment on family relations with specific reference to gender role perception, relational satisfaction, communication, decision making, finances and labour within the family were investigated. Unemployment of the male partner was found to have no statistically significant differences for the manner in which males and females perceive their gender roles, finances and labour distribution within the family. Statistically significant differences were found for the manner in which males/and females perceive decision-making and communication within the family when the male partner is unemployed. The results revealed that unemployment does not have an influence on role perception and that the respondents uphold a traditional role perception. Decision making was not male dominated, as more egalitarian decision were taken. The respondents expressed combination gender roles with regard to management of finances and appeared to be satisfied with family and partner relations. The minority of respondents who experienced problems with communication attributed this to the consequences of being unemployed. Social agencies need to offer services to empower families to deal with the affects of unemployment on family life to ensure the survival of families during these challenging periods. A multi-disciplinary approach, provided by a team of professionals is the basis for recommendations for proposed support programme development, access and further research.

The purpose of this study was to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of home based care giver´s experiences of the encounter with clients from three perspectives: quality, time and power. We conducted a qualitative interview study with six people working in home based care. Our results have been analyzed and interpreted by the theories social constructionism and role theory and the concept of relational power. The results of the study demonstrate that time is central for the encounter between home care giver´s and clients affecting both when and how long the care should be performed. Responsiveness and putting the client´s needs in focus are defined as good quality of care, while the power relationship between home care givers and clients changes between each unique encounter. To get a deeper understanding and knowledge of home care givers experiences of the encounter with clients the three aspects: quality, time and power, needs to be highlighted and studied in the same context. The results demonstrate that the three aspects interact in the encounter and analyzing these together creates a deeper understanding of home care giver´s experience of the encounter.

”Ett bra liv förutsätter att föräldrarna är rätt så aktiva” : Föräldrars perspektiv vid LSS-handläggning för barn / “A good life requires parents to be quite active” : LSS-assessment for children and parents perspectivesBerggren, Anna, Karlsson, Aleksandra January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe and understand parents’ perspectives in aid assessment for children according to The Swedish Act (1993:387) concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (Lag 1993:387 om stöd och service till vissa funktionshindrade, LSS). The study took place in the county of Kronoberg, Sweden, and was based on a total of nine qualitative interviews. Four interviews were made with parents’ of children who has interventions according to LSS (1993:387) and five interviews were made with LSS case workers. In our study we saw that parents’ perspectives often is the largest amount of information that case workers take into account when assessing aid and as a case worker you listen to the parents perspectives to capture the child’s and the family’s needs. It also came clear that the parents’ perspective is not only about the child’s needs, but also includes the parent’s own needs and their family’s needs. The parents in the study felt that they made the decision about the choice of aid and considered themselves as the one who decides the family’s requirements. It turned out that treatment and understanding from the case workers was important for gaining access to the best help and making parents feel listened to. Parental responsibility was of great importance for the assessment, and it often led to disagreement between parents and case workers. During the study, we saw that power existed in the relationship between case workers and parents, but that it could be moved and changed during the time of aid assessment.

Hemlösas upplevelser av deras livssituation och bemötande från socialtjänsten / Homeless people´s perspectives on their situation and the treatment of the social servicesEdin, Nathalie January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the situation of homeless people, how they perceive the efforts of the social-services and what opportunities and limitations there is for homeless people to live a health-promoting life. Through qualitative interviews with five acute homeless people I interpreted the results based on the salutogenic perspective of KASAM and the theory of relational power. Results show that homeless people are a vulnerable group with a weak social network, a life characterized by addiction and mental healthproblems and with a limited participation in the society. They express both positive and negative experiences of the social-services, mostly negative. Despite their difficult situation, I found that they have the potential to live a health-promoting life if they are able to manage their existence by accessing alternative social resources such as significant relationships or a religious belief, meaningful activities and the understanding of how they ended up in this situation. Homeless people would like for the social-services to work faster and to design requirements and support based on their individual conditions and needs. Priority initiatives include housing, drugtreatment, occupation and support through good relationships and conversations.

Bullying: Out Of The School Halls And Into The WorkplaceCooney, Lucretia 01 January 2010 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study is to identify those people at most risk of being bullied at work. While much research is being conducted on school bullying, little has been conducted on workplace bullying. Using data gathered from a 2004 study conducted by the National Opinion Research Center for the General Social Survey, which included a Quality of Work Life (QWL) module for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), linear regressions indicated significant findings. As predicted, workers in lower level occupations, as ranked by prestige scoring developed at National Opinion Research, are more likely to be victimized. Data also suggest that being young, Black, and relatively uneducated may contribute to being bullied in certain situations. Future research is needed to examine influences of socio-economic, legal, and other demographic factors that may predict the chance of being bullied.
