Perramon Ayza, Joaquim Maria 28 February 2003 (has links)

The Strengths of Street Knowledge

Hallgrimsson, Boas, Bekele, Mollee January 2019 (has links)
In the late 1970s the culture of hip hop emerged from the streets of New York. It was an outlet for identity, expression and boasting among communities of young people who were raised in disadvantaged circumstances. Hip hop allowed for creative innovators to form a niche within the entertainment industry that has generated billions of dollars. The purpose of our study is to investigate how hip hop artists utilize entrepreneurial methods in their ventures. Specifically, we explore how these entrepreneurs build empires from storytelling and narrative creation. Entrepreneurial research has found storytelling as an increasingly validated method towards success. Much has been written about how entrepreneurs frame their ideas, how they have to be raconteurial in the early stages of their ventures in order to access resources, and how a “great” pitch is invaluable in capital raising. Hip hop artists rely on stories and storytelling, and the listeners response to the pitch dictates its value.  The primary methods used in our study were theoretical and text analysis. We relied on content analysis, discourse analysis and critical discourse studies to analyze our data. We compared literature from various research disciplines including cultural studies, business studies, entrepreneurial research, post structuralism and philosophy.  Our results indicate that hip hop artists negotiate experiences and create narratives that are then commodified.  Our conclusions indicate that narratives that provide consumers a glimpse into communities of “others” while keeping listeners at a safe distance, sell. Furthermore, we find that rappers who exploit vulgarity and glamorize violence, misogyny and aggression are time and again rewarded with fame and fiscal success.

En demokratisk kanon? : Demokratibegreppet i samhällskunskapsundervisningen

Burman, August, Bengtsson, Gustaf January 2023 (has links)

(Re) Visiting Female Entrepreneurs: An Emancipatory Impulse

Dean, Hannah January 2013 (has links)
This thesis aims to emancipate female entrepreneurs from the metanarrative of economic growth which has created a false dichotomy of successful male entrepreneur versus an unsuccessful female entrepreneur. This aim is pursued through a multidisciplinary and critical inquiry that destabilises this metanarrative conceptually and empirically. A critical interrogation of economic studies reveals the embeddedness of the metanarrative in neo-classical economic growth theory. Far from being a true reflection of the entrepreneurial experience, the theory has silenced the innovator entrepreneur in economic theory and replaced him/her with an economic rational manager. Concurrently, a re-analysis of Schumpeter’s theorising suggests that his theories do not subordinate female entrepreneurs as claimed by a number of critical theorists. In contrast, his theorising is emancipatory and offers an alternative theoretical framework to the oppressive neo-classical economic growth theory. Oral history methods are used to capture the voices of female entrepreneurs which have largely been excluded from the literature. The oral history narratives challenge the oppressive homogeneity imposed by the metanarrative of economic growth and illustrate the negative influence of the theoretical foundation of neo-classical theory upon the entrepreneurial experience. The study offers theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions to female entrepreneurship studies by presenting a fresh interpretation of Schumpeter’s theorising; including the voices of the female entrepreneurs; and applying research approaches that break away from positivism which dominates entrepreneurial studies. The study has implications for policy makers and practitioners as it generates knowledge that takes account of the current social and economic changes. / Bradford University School of Management

Destructive Capitalism, an Investigation on the Inner Logic of Capital

Saavedra, Roque Martin 18 November 2008 (has links)
This research, while centered upon capital development, will concentrate its efforts on explaining the urgent contingencies behind its destructive aspects. If capitalism in order to advance must destroy the past, what are the sources and effects of this inexorable tension between creation and destruction? Moreover, what are the principles of this contradictory logic that determines destruction in order to make progress? This research will not investigate the totality of the destructive history behind capitalism. The time frame in analysis only covers the emergence of neo-liberalism at the beginning of the 1970s until today. This particular choice responds to the fact that neo-liberalism in itself is a strong example of the more destructive aspects of capitalist practice. I will not focus this research on a particular place, or a particular society. Instead, I will treat the topic from two theoretical perspectives, Joseph Schumpeter's notion of creative destruction and David Harvey's theory of geographical uneven development, along with his theorization of the spatial/temporal fix. Questions of space and development associated with capital will also integrate this research. What this research will show is that the inexorable confluence between creation and destruction in capitalist practices to counter the overwhelming perspective of capitalism, as a progressive force in social terms, is an eminently political task that requires, not only imagination, but also, the necessary connection between apparent unconnected issues in order to unravel the perplexities of contemporary political and social thought. / Master of Arts
