Enquanto
A coleta do material no campo mediante
as quaias reservatórios e áreas alagadas receberam pouca atenção.
ambas as baías.
Submerged macrophytes promote attributes of planktonic communities by physical
structure, water transparency, habitat, and shelter from predators. As they compete for light
and nutrients, affecting negatively the phytoplankton growing, mediated bottom-up and topdown
control interactions of zooplankton. Little has been investigated on the role of
submerged vegetation in the interactions of zooplankton and phytoplankton in areas of
reservoir influence in the Brazilian semiarid region. In order to identify major gaps and
perspectives for future studies of macrophytes and trophic interactions, emphasizing
searches for studies in South America, we conducted a scientometric analysis. We believe
that the number of articles in the area show an increasing tendency to over the years, where
South America will present significant participation in both the number of publications and
in international cooperation. In order to investigate the impact of land use areas surrounding
reservoir in submerged plants on planktonic communities, during four periods, we collect
evidence of bottom-up and top-down controls of macrophyte on plankton. Our hypothesis is
that the macrophytes are affected positively in that areas, and at the same time, can provide
structure for richness and abundance to zooplankton and their interactions affect
phytoplankton negatively. In the field we compare attributes of communities and dissolved
nutrients in plant beds in the littoral and pelagic zones. For scientometrical analysis, we
access publications using international database from 1980 to 2015. In the field, the samples
were collected by boat, where greater distances with simultaneous sampling of vegetation,
plankton communities and nitrogenous nutrients and total phosphorus dissolved. The
submerged plant coverage areas were estimated by reducing the proportion of presence and
absence of species in 24 points in parallel transects an area greater than 3.5 km. We collected
24 samples of phytoplankton and nutrients. For zooplankton, carry out sample composed of
the water column vertically and horizontally, through hauls totaling 48 samples. The
scientometrical analysis results showed that the number of trophic interactions researches
grown in recent years in South America, with contributions from Brazil, Argentina and
Uruguay. We found that the highest volume of indexed articles deals with the dynamics and
structure of aquatic assemblages, webs and trophic interactions. Reservoirs and wetlands
have received little attention. The large number of studies includes all aquatic community
and interactions between macrophytes, phytoplankton, zooplankton and fish. Macrophytes
occurred in high density and vegetation cover at 12 points per bay (60%; 70%) at different
depths (2m to 6m). In the bays, phosphorus (mean = 0.03 and 0.05 mg / L) and nitrogen (0.4
and 0.9 mg / L) had lower concentrations. We found high Secchi transparency (>3.8) for
both bays. The phytoplankton richness was 17 taxa, of which Cyanophyta Bacillariophyta were most representative. Low densities recorded reflected in lower values
Chlorophyll-a (mean = 9.12 µg/l). Zooplankton showed high dissimilarity in the richness
(97 spp.) of rotifers, Cladocera and Copepoda, with relative abundance. Densities varying
significantly in the pelagic (24-2013 ind./m³) and littoral zones (28-1260 ind./m³) of both the
bays. In this context, comparing these results with data from the vegetation, along with low
concentrations of dissolved nutrients, chlorophyll-a and high water transparency, there is
strong evidence of the occurrence of macrophytes and zooplankton interactions with bottomup
and top-down controls on phytoplankton. Our data support the hypothesis that probably,
effects of these interactions are contributing to the maintenance of conditions of water
transparency, favoring low richness and algal biomass. The knowledge of trophic
interactions, particularly which occur in cascades, has been successfully developed in the
restructuring and restoration of water quality in several countries. This research brings to
contributes to the knowledge of macrophytes, zooplankton and phytoplankton interactions
in areas influenced by reservoirs. However, studies in the area of trophic interactions
mediated by macrophytes may be directed in order to mitigate international asymmetries by
encouraging increased scientific productivity in South America. Efforts to restore the bays
around the reservoir in Brazil may be spent using combined techniques to increase the quality
water and increase attributes of aquatic communities.

Previous issue date: 2009-11-17 / Macroecology of the genus Uca (Crustacea, Decapoda): Patterns of diversity, distribution and responses to global change. The genus Uca, composed by 97 species, has a worldwide distribution on coastal marine regions, mainly in tropical environments. Many researches have used the genus Uca as a model of study, although the actual scientific knowledge about this group is dispersed. Moreover, few studies have investigated its global and evolutive patterns. In this sense, considering that the genus Uca has no taxonomic problems (there is a consensus about its distribution and species identification), presents wide geographical distribution and has phylogenetic topologies, this group can be used as an excellent model to test macroecological and evolutionary hypotheses, and to discuss the effects of climate change on coastal organisms. The aim of this study was to detect trends and biases in scientific literature about the genus Uca, as well as to assess macroecological patterns (at a global scale) and to evaluate the influence of climate change on the geographical range size and species richness. Moreover, we associated the information generated to improve conservation strategies for species of the genus Uca. Considering our goals, we generated four papers in this thesis. Among the most prominent results, we observed that, the number of papers about the genus Uca indexed in Thomson ISI database, did not increase between 1991 and 2007, which may indicate the lack of interest of the scientific community on this taxonomic group. Moreover, the majority of the scientific production about the genus Uca came from institutions in the USA. The studies about the genus Uca were mainly characterized as population papers (which analyzes population attributes such as density, distribution and ecological interactions). The results of species accumulation curve demonstrated that the total number of Uca species currently know (97 described species) is substantially lower than the number predicted by the asymptote of the Gompertz model (134 species predicted), suggesting that new species need to be described. However, a new species of Uca is not described since 1987. Models were generated to explain the date of species description based on the body size, geographical range size, human influence and the type of habitat of each species. These models were selected using the Akaike Information Criteria (AIC). The best model among the candidate ones (explaining 37% of the total variance) was composed by variables representing the geographical range size of species, their body size and the human influence on them. In other words, large-bodied species and those widely distributed, mainly in regions with elevated human influence, were described earlier. In another paper of this thesis, we evaluated the levels of phylogenetic heritability of species of the genus Uca on their geographical range size, shape and position. If a strong phylogenetic signal of geographic range sizes exists between close related species, we can predict the unknown geographic range of species through the known geographic range of its relatives, which is useful for conservation purposes. However, the absence of phylogenetic signal was evidenced for this trait. On the other hand, there was a strong phylogenetic pattern considering the position of the range (mainly along longitudinal axis), probably due to mechanisms of vicariant allopatric speciation and to the geographical structure of the cladogenesis of the group. In the last paper, the impact of global changes on geographic range size of genus Uca were modeled, producing a comprehension about a poleward shift and elaborating maps of species richness based in two scenarios of global change. The models generated presented good performance, and predictions are that the species will probably have reduced the geographical range size and some species will be extinct (considering two
scenarios until 2050), mainly in the tropical regions. Moreover, the range of species with midpoints in both hemispheres changed towards to poles in the future scenarios of climatic changes. Finally, the results of this set of papers highlighted the urgency of detailed studies for some species of Uca, and in some coastal marine regions (e.g. Indo-West Pacific) to evaluate the actual status of the distribution of species of the genus Uca and the real species richness of this genus. This is essential to generate local strategies aiming to minimize impacts of global change on coastal organism / O gênero Uca é composto atualmente por 97 espécies, distribuídas mundialmente, ocupando ambientes costeiros marinhos, principalmente da região tropical.

of the country.
It is formed by a heterogeneous mosaic of distinct habitats and has the richest flora of the
savanas of the world, with high diversity at level of genera and families. It is also currently
classified as a priority for conservation because of its rich biodiversity and simultaneous high
level on threat due to the destruction of natural habitats resulting from anthropogenic
activities. The advent of molecular biology techniques has allowed direct access to the genetic
variability of species and populations and made it possible to infer the genetic variability
within and among populations, increasing the interest in studying genetic diversity and
structure in plant species population of the Cerrado biome. It was conducted here an
exhaustive survey of scientific platforms such as the Web of Science, Scopus, Scielo and
Google Scholar, to carry out an analysis of published papers evaluating the genetic variability
within and among populations in plant species from the Cerrado biome, and to quantify and
describe aspects of scientific production in the field of population genetics to plant species
from the Cerrado using a scientometric approach, and using a meta-analytic approach to
evaluate genetic variability, it was collected some of the genetic parameters estimated in the
studies (observed (HO) and expected (HE) heterozygosities and the F statistics of Wright (FIS;
FST or analogs)) to test the effect of this genetic parameters in some life history and ecological
traits of the species and in methodological characteristics of the article. It was obtained 176
publications from 45 journals through the period of 1999-2012 and the number of studies
published has increased significantly through this period. The journal “Genetics and
Molecular Research” published the highest number of papers. Ninety-six species from 32
plant families were studied, with highest numbers from the family Fabaceae. Although the
species comprised a wide sample of plants with different characteristics, trees, shrubs and
herbs were the main life forms and “Mata de galeria”, “cerrado” and “cerradão” were the
main fitofisionomies studied. The molecular markers used included microsatellites, cpDNA,
isoenzymes, RAPDs, AFLPs and ISSRs and the Microsatellites were the most popular marker
used and also show the highest mean value from the genetic variability within populations
when compared across studies. It was observed that population genetics parameters molecular
derived from molecular markers are closely associated with some life history traits and
ecological traits of the species and with methodological characteristics of the article. The
analyses allows a better understanding of the current knowledge on plant population genetics
in Cerrado biome and the association with the population genetics parameters and some
ecological, life history and methodological traits has considerable importance and may be
useful to guide future research programs in this system with potential to produce information
with important implications in evolutionary biology and ecology as well as in conservation
biology / O bioma Cerrado ocupa aproximadamente 2 milhões km2
do Brasil.
A revista Genetics and Molecular Research apresentou o maior número de artigos
publicados.
A análise permitiu

This study analyses linkages between the Scientific Production (papers) and Technological Production (patents) in biodiesel, using bibliometric and scientometric methods and techniques, investigating interactions between Science and Technology (S&T). Objective: To understand the dynamics of the interactions between S&T in biodiesel and investigate the potential contribution of Bibliometric and Scientometric for combined analysis of Scientific Production (articles) and Technological Production (patents) indicators. Method: Recovery of scientific papers in SciELO and SCIs databases and patent documents of DII related to biodiesel, covering the period between 2000 and 2007. Construction of multiple scientometric and bibliometric indicators (productivity, subjects, raw materials, collaborative activities, citations) segmenting them by countries, organizations and their typologies: Education Institutions and Public Research Institutes (EIPRIs) and Companies and Private Research Institutes (CPRIs). Isolated analysis of Scientific Production and Technological Production, just as well as a proposal of integrated analysis of both. Results: 885 papers were published and 612 patents were registered in the period. Using isolated analysis of each of the productions it was able to identify connections between S&T. About Scientific Production, it was found that 13% of CPRIs organizations have published papers; all subjects that occur in EIPRIs papers also occur in CPRIs papers; 32% of raw materials occur in both types of organizations; there were 6.9% of articles published by only CPRIs and 10.5% articles published in collaboration between CPRIs and EIPRs. About Technological Production, it was found that 20.5% of EIPRIs organizations registered patents; 8 of 16 subjects found in CPRIs also occur in EIPRIs; 70% of the raw materials were found in both types of organizations (EIPRs and CPRIs); there were 28.1% of patents registered by only EIPRs and 1.3% patents registered in collaboration between CPRIs and EIPRs. With the integrated analysis of the linkage between of Scientific Production and Technological Production, it was found that 80% of the countries co-occur in both productions, with a strong positive correlation between them (0.832); 7% of organizations have both published papers and patents registered, which are more productive than the organizations that participated individually in one or other production; there is a strong positive correlation (0,918) among the subjects of each production, with higher productivity of coactive subjects (94% of the production of article and patents are inter related through the subjects); 37% of raw materials coincide (co-occur in both productions) with positive correlation by average to strong between them (0.677), in addition to higher productivity among the coactive; given the relatively low dynamic collaborative, especially in the technological production, it was not identified relations between the productions; co-occurrence in 14% of scientific journals where biodiesel articles were published and scientific journals cited in patents (co-occurrence of journal titles), being the coactive journals more productive than those that occur in either production alone. Conclusion: It is possible to compare Scientific Production and Technological Production using the same bibliometric and scientometric methods and techniques, and establish connection among different productions, through the integrated analysis of multiple indicators. Except for the joint analysis of collaborative activities among the productions and, partly, of their subjects, bibliometric and scientometric indicators showed great potential for the establishment of relations between S&T.
