Developing a method for estimating Body Segment Parameters using Dual Photon Absorptiometry, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Photogrammetry

Mercuri, Mat 03 1900 (has links)

An accurate estimation of Body Segment Parameters (BSPs) is needed to understand human movement. These include segment mass, centre of mass, and moment of inertia about the centre of mass. Bone density scanners, such as DPX, can measure BSPs, but are limited to only two dimensions. MRI produces images in three dimensions, but cannot directly measure mass. For this study, MRI was used in conjunction with a DPX scan of the human body. The result was the development of a method to estimate mass, and subsequently, centre of mass, and moment of inertia from MRI images. Next, ellipses were created from the dimensions of transverse plane slices (produced from MRI). Three different density profiles were applied to the ellipses, and mass, centre of mass and moment of inertia about the centre of mass of each slice was calculated. It was found that constant density transverse plane ellipses could be used to estimate BSPs for most regions of the body. Photogrammetry can also be used to generate the dimensions of ellipses that represent transverse plane slices. Therefore, the suitability of photogrammetry to estimate slice BSPs was tested. It was found that depending on the density profile used, photogrammetry is an effective method for estimating BSPs. An exception to this estimation was in the chest, where ellipses may not be representative of the body.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Impacts of European Bailout Programs on SMEs Distress rate / Impacts of European Bailout Programs on SMEs Distress rate

Tóthová, Simona January 2015 (has links)
Master Thesis - Simona Tothova Abstract This thesis empirically investigates impact of countries' bailouts on probability of SME segment distress. The impact is examined by multi-period logit model where dependent variable is distress rate and explanatory variables includes self-constructed bailout variable, several binary predictors and firm-specific and macroeconomic control variables. The hypotheses are tested on dataset for period from 2005 to 2013 including observations from seven European countries which received financial assistance program (bailout) from Troika. Every bailout from Troika comes with the requirement for austerity measures and our results suggest that impact of bailouts on SMEs probability of distress are depended on the success of application in individual countries and the impacts are more positive in non euro-zone countries. Designing for the Unknown : Exploring Urban Mining as a case study

Erlingsson, Oskar, Dahlqvist, Karin January 2015 (has links)
The earth’s resources are limited; with the speed that humanity are using earth’s resources today, we would need 1.5 times of the earth’s regenerative capacity to compensate for what we use. Raw materials has since a long time ago been mined from the bedrock, which affects the earth in a negative way. If we could use materials and products that are circulating in our society, but are not being used and thereby considered as waste, traditional mining could be replaced with urban mining. Imagine what would happen if earth’s resources would be limited by laws and regulations in the future; mining as it is known today would not be allowed and there would be a need of resources that is gathered in another way, an unknown way. The world is constantly changing and this results in the fact that there will always be unexplored areas that needs to be defined and developed to be able to handle the changes in the future. Considering the fact that urban mining is such an unexplored field, there is a need of creating a process to define the segment in order to develop product/services within it. The outcome of this thesis is therefore recommendations for how a generic design process can be tailored and implemented for innovation development in undefined areas. The result is reached through investigating a development project, which focuses in the research area urban mining, as a case study and also by studying design processes in theory. The investigation is conducted with an explorative approach by observing the field and sub-fields of urban mining. This thesis shows that drivers and trends for urban mining exist, and that there is a future need to capitalize this market. The result also shows that the most important characteristics of the design process when designing for the unknown, is the fact that defining the research area requires even more effort when dealing with an initially unknown field, compared with known research areas.

Analýza vývoje cen v jednotlivých segmentech trhu nemovitostí v letech 2005 - 2010 / The analysis of price trends in various segments of the real estate market in the years 2005 - 2010

MACHARTOVÁ, Jana January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to process the development in the average market prices of real estate in other segments of the real estate market and to assess whether and how the development of the prices of various types of real estate differs between years 2005 and 2010. The literature research focuses primarily on the explanation of the basic concepts, the analysis of the market and the segment of the real estate market. The real estate valuation methodology and the factors affecting the price of real estate. Before proceeding, I determined a methodological order consisting of an identification of the individual characteristics of the selected areas, a market analysis in the selected segment, a methodology of obtaining prices within a specified period and the ways of evaluation of the data obtained. The research is based on my personal experience in the field of the real estate market. This experience allowed me to track the movement of the real estate prices in the different segments of the real estate market. I focused on the situation of cities Prachatice, Vimperk and Strakonice. In conclusion, I tried to identify the factors that affected the real estate prices from the long term point of view, with an emphasis on the impact of the economic crisis.

Here I try to reveal old age as a period of building yourself. To do that, I make use of the approach on the transformations in the course of contemporary life, the values, representations and practices related to aging women. The central hypothesis of this paper is to present the experiences of aging women which are marked by processes of individualization, inexhaustible even with advancing age and showing that old age can be experienced as a phase of life in which it is building itself. I seek to understand, in this paper, as sociocultural and historical processes are updated in daily practices of the ladies and popular middle segments of our society, conceiving "ladies individualized." I start the assumptions that the individualization phenomenon constitutes a global trend in our society and that the possibility of joint relational and individualistic ideals is present both in the life experiences of individuals from middle segments, as the popular segments. In the case of research conducted for this thesis these individuals are respectively represented by elderly women living in the neighborhood of Bancários, and the community of Timbo in the city of João Pessoa. Because these joints are present in the daily lives of these women and how they present themselves in the course of their lives are questions that guided my thinking. I do not intend here to define how individualization process between older women and middle popular segments work, before long to discuss possibilities of processes of individualization and women from both of them reflect on the variations of the experiences of women aged above 60 as on their identities and representations of aging. The empirical data used in this thesis were qualitatively selected and come from direct observations, semi-structured interviews and stories of life trajectories, collected from 13 women aged between 60 and 70 years old. Seven of these women inhabit in Bancários, and the other in the community of Timbó. The characterization of these women, as belonging to the middle and popular segments, not only did so from the point of view of the place they occupy in the production structure. I analyze elements together as living space, conditions and styles of consumption, income and education, practices and habits of everyday life, trying to take into account concepts and tools to reflect both the objective aspects as those built to the level of culture. Were taken as the object of investigation the particular experiences of these women and sought to situate them in a spatial and temporal context, which includes not only their livelihoods but also the social interactions with other significant actors, capable of interfering in their social practices and daily experiences.

Desmouceaux, Yoann 10 April 2019 (has links)
With the development of demand for computing resources, data center architectures are growing both in scale and in complexity. In this context, this thesis takes a step back as compared to traditional network approaches, and shows that providing generic primitives directly within the network layer is a great way to improve efficiency of resource usage, and decrease network traffic and management overhead.Using recently-introduced network architectures, Segment Routing (SR) and Bit-Indexed Explicit Replication (BIER), network layer protocols are designed and analyzed to provide three high-level functions: (1) task mobility, (2) reliable content distribution and (3) load-balancing.First, task mobility is achieved by using SR to provide a zero-loss virtual machine migration service. This then opens the opportunity for studying how to orchestrate task placement and migration while aiming at (i) maximizing the inter-task throughput, while (ii) maximizing the number of newly-placed tasks, but (iii) minimizing the number of tasks to be migrated.Second, reliable content distribution is achieved by using BIER to provide a reliable multicast protocol, in which retransmissions of lost packets are targeted towards the precise set of destinations having missed that packet, thus incurring a minimal traffic overhead. To decrease the load on the source link, this is then extended to enable retransmissions by local peers from the same group, with SR as a helper to find a suitable retransmission candidate.Third, load-balancing is achieved by way of using SR to distribute queries through several application candidates, each of which taking local decisions as to whether to accept those, thus achieving better fairness as compared to centralized approaches. The feasibility of hardware implementation of this approach is investigated, and a solution using covert channels to transparently convey information to the load-balancer is implemented for a state-of-the-art programmable network card. Finally, the possibility of providing autoscaling as a network service is investigated: by letting queries go through a fixed chain of applications using SR, autoscaling is triggered by the last instance, depending on its local state.

Marknadsintroduktion i privat vs offentlig sektor / Market introduction in private vs public sector

Khoshnaw, Deler, Tziovas, Konstantinos January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to research and identify new customer markets and competitors within the private sector for Green Landscaping AB in Stockholm. The company's different market segments and its competitors could be identified and compared by theory together with interviewing the company's existing customers. Based on the analysis, segment A was identified as the most attractive segment for the company to position itself. Segment A covers larger parts of the markets, which means that the company has opportunities for several new potential markets consisting of customers where the company has easy to convince in the choice of supplier. Company C was chosen as the primary competitor among identified competitors because the company has development opportunities to improve and advance in different areas through competition with a large company. A competition between large companies also affects the smaller companies indirectly for example in price adjustments the small companies are following the large companies development because they are the market leaders.
