Commande de systèmes d'isolation antisismique mixte / Control of mixed seismic isolation systems

Nous nous intéressons aux méthodes de contrôle de vibrations de modèles réduits de structures à n degrés de liberté, sismiquement isolées au niveau de la base par des systèmes d'isolation mixte.Le mouvement provoqué par une sollicitation sismique horizontale a lieu dans le plan vertical.Nous avons construit un problème de contrôle semi-actif de systèmes incertains soumis à des perturbations inconnues, mais bornées. Dans le langage de l'automatique, il s'agit d'un problème d'atténuation de perturbations.Le résultat principal de cette thèse porte sur la construction d'une version modifiée des résultats de Leitmann et de ses collaborateurs sur la stabilisation de systèmes non linéaires incertains. Le théorème proposé repose sur une loi de commande par retour d'état qui assure en boucle fermée les propriétés de "uniform boundedness" et "uniform ultimate boundedness".En particulier, il peut être appliqué à la résolution de problèmes de contrôle semi-actif, qui sont actuellement traités en génie parasismique.L'objectif du contrôle est d'améliorer le comportement (i.e. la réponse) de structures isolées pour faire face aux perturbations externes, c'est-à-dire les séismes. Plusieurs points différencient notre problème de la majorité que l'on trouve dans la littérature: (i) on ne s'intéresse pas seulement à la protection de la structure isolée, mais aussi aux équipements situés à l'intérieur de la structure, et (ii) au lieu d'utiliser des indicateurs de performance habituels exprimés en termes de déplacement relatif de la base versus des accélérations absolues des planchers, nous utilisons uniquement le spectre de plancher en pseudo-accélération, comme il a été proposé dans des travaux précédents par Politopoulos et Pham. Ce travail est une tentative d'utiliser explicitement les spectres de plancher comme critère de performance.Concernant la procédure d'application, plusieurs étapes intermédiaires ont été détaillées:(i) modélisation de signaux sismiques;(ii) réglage des paramètres de la loi de commande utilisant la théorie des vibrations;(iii) validation et test du comportement en boucle fermée à travers des simulations numériques: pour des raisons de simplicité, on se limite au cas n=2.Cette procédure peut être utilisée sur des structures en industrie nucléaire, mais aussi en génie civil.D'autres sujets traités incluent une tentative d'utiliser les outils temps-fréquence, et en particulier la distribution de Wigner-Ville, pour la synthèse de lois de commande, en espérant pouvoir mieux contrôler les composants transitoires des signaux de perturbation (les entrées) et des variables d'état (les sorties). / Vibration attenuation control designs are proposed for reduced plant models consisting of n-degree-of-freedom base seismically-isolated structures (i.e., a specific type of earthquake-resistant design), modeled by uncertain nonlinear systems and subjected to one-dimensional horizontal ground acceleration (i.e. the earthquake signal), treated as unknown disturbance but assumed to be bounded.In control systems literature, this is a perturbation attenuation problem.The main result of this PhD is the development of a modified version of Leitmann and co-authors' classical result on the stabilization of uncertain nonlinear systems. The proposed theorem consists of a bounded nonlinear feedback control law that is capable of ensuring uniform boundedness and uniform ultimate boundedness in closed-loop. In particular, it can be applied to solving semi-active control design problems, which are currently dealt with in earthquake engineering.The control objective is to improve the behavior (i.e. response) of mixed base-isolated structures to external disturbance, namely earthquakes. What differentiates our problem from the majority to be found in the literature is that: (i) attention is being paid to the protection of equipment placed inside the structure an not only to the structure itself; (ii) instead of using regular performance indicators expressed in terms of relative base displacement versus floors accelerations, we use solely the pseudo-acceleration floor response spectra, as it was proposed in previous recent works by Politopoulos and Pham.Actually, this work is an attempt to explicitly use floor response spectra as performance criterion.Concerning the application procedure, some of the topics that were detailed are:(i) modeling of earthquake signals;(ii) tuning of control law parameters based on vibration theory;(iii) validation and testing of the closed-loop behavior using numerical simulations: for simplicity reasons, we take n=2.This procedure can be used on structures of both nuclear industry as well as civil engineering.Other topics include an attempt to using time-frequency concepts and in particular the Wigner-Ville distribution to the control law design procedure, in order to better control transitory components of both perturbation (the input) and state variables signals (the output).

Structural vibration damping with synchronized energy transfer between piezoelectric patches / Amortissement vibratoire avec échange d'énergie synchronisé entre des éléments piézoélectriques

Les matériaux évolués tels que les matériaux composites ou les fibres de carbone sont de plus en plus utilisés dans l'industrie. Ils rendent les structures plus légères et plus résistantes mais en contrepartie, ils apportent de nouveaux problèmes de vibration. De nombreuses recherches sont ainsi en cours pour apporter des solutions afin d'éliminer les vibrations indésirables tout en restant compactes, légères, intelligentes et modulaires. Récemment, des techniques de contrôle non linéaires, dénommées en anglais S.S.D. (Synchronized Switch Damping) ont été proposées et validées. Ces méthodes font commutées un élément piézoélectrique collé à la structure mécanique à amortir sur un circuit électrique de manière synchronisée avec la déformation de celle-ci. Un effet amortissant peut ainsi être obtenu en utilisant l'énergie de vibration de la structure mécanique elle-même. Basée sur ces concepts, une nouvelle technique appelée S.S.D.E.T. (Synchronized Switch Damping with Energy Transfer) est proposée dans ce manuscrit. Cette méthode permet d'amortir une vibration en utilisant de l'énergie extraite à partir d'autres vibrations. Les résultats de ce travail de thèse sont présentés de la manière suivante. Premièrement, le principe et les lois de commande de la technique S.S.D.E.T. sont introduits. Ainsi, un modèle mathématique est établi et permet de vérifier les concepts proposés par simulation. Ensuite, des validations expérimentales menées sur différentes configurations sont décrites et démontrent l'augmentation de l'amortissement sur un système composé de deux structures mécaniquement indépendantes, sur un système composé d'une seule structure qui vibre selon plusieurs modes et sur une combinaison des deux précédents. Enfin, une extension de la technique S.S.D.E.T. est introduite dans un cadre d'échange d'énergie bidirectionnel. Celle-ci permet d'obtenir un amortissement privilégié sur un mode tout en conservant un contrôle correct des autres modes. / Advanced materials such as carbon fiber, composite materials et al. are more and more used in modern industry. They make the structures lighter and stiffer. However, they bring vibration problems. Researchers studied numerous methods to eliminate the undesirable vibrations. These treatments are expected to be a compact, light, intellectual and modular system. Recently, a nonlinear technique which is known as Synchronized Switch Damping (SSD) technique was proposed. These techniques synchronously switched when structure got to its displacement extremes that leading to a nonlinear voltage on the piezoelectric elements. This resulting voltage showed a time lag with the piezoelectric strain thus causing energy dissipation. Based on the developed SSD techniques, a new synchronized switch damping e.g. Synchronized Switch Damping with Energy Transfer (SSDET) was proposed in this document. This method damped the vibration by using the energy from other vibrating form. The objectives of the work reported in this document were threefold. The first one consisted of introduction of SSDET principle and developing its control law. This part aimed at establishing the mathematical model and verifying the proposed method by mathematical tools. Then, the experimental validations were carried out. Three experiments with different configurations demonstrated that SSDET can be implemented not only between structures but also vibrating modes in one structure. A SSDET scheme with multi-patches was also investigated for improving the damping. Finally, a bidirectional SSDET concept was introduced based on the original SSDET technique. This technique be regarded as a multimode control SSDET. Since it privileged the target vibration while keeps a decent control effect on the source vibration.

Metodologia de projeto de atuador eletromagnético linear para sistemas de suspensão semiativa e ativa

Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia de projeto de atuadores eletromagnéticos lineares inovadora para aplicação em sistemas de suspensão semiativa e ativa. A metodologia, apresentada na forma de fluxograma, define critérios para determinar os requisitos de força e curso que um atuador deve desenvolver considerando um sistema mecânico vibratório com um grau de liberdade com excitação harmônica de base quando o método de controle skyhook é aplicado. Um atuador eletromagnético linear de bobina móvel com duplo arranjo de quase-Halbach que apresenta elevada densidade de força, reduzida massa móvel, ausência de força de relutância e baixa ondulação de força é definido como estudo de caso. Um modelo numérico parametrizado em elementos finitos do comportamento eletromagnético de um passo polar do dispositivo é criado e analisado, considerando restrições dimensionais, com os objetivos de projeto definidos como: elevada densidade de força e reduzida ondulação de força com acionamento brushless CA. Com base no modelo de um passo polar do dispositivo, define-se o volume ativo que o mesmo deve apresentar e, a partir deste, todas as dimensões são definidas de forma a atender os requisitos de projeto. Uma vez definidas as dimensões do atuador com base no modelo eletromagnético, realiza-se a modelagem térmica numérica que permite avaliar qual a máxima densidade de corrente elétrica aplicável de forma que a temperatura, estipulada como máxima, nos enrolamentos não seja excedida. Ainda, a distribuição térmica permite determinar a temperatura de operação dos ímãs permanentes que têm curva de operação dependente da temperatura. A partir dos resultados da simulação térmica e do modelo eletromagnético para um passo polar, realizou-se o acoplamento eletromagnético-térmico por meio da correção das propriedades dos ímãs permanentes e aplicando uma densidade de corrente eficaz dependente das dimensões do modelo parametrizado. O modelo acoplado é simulado e analisado, de modo que as dimensões finais do atuador podem ser obtidas atendendo aos mesmos objetivos de projeto previamente mencionados, respeitando os limites de operação térmica. Adicionalmente, são apresentados modelos analíticos do comportamento eletromagnético e térmico do atuador que podem servir de base para implementação da metodologia proposta, se esta for baseada em modelos analíticos, e podem futuramente ser empregados para a aplicação de otimização matemática do dispositivo. Por fim, um protótipo do dispositivo é construído de forma a validar a metodologia proposta. Com este protótipo são realizados ensaios de densidade de fluxo magnético no entreferro, tensão induzida a vazio, força estática e ensaio dinâmicos com o dispositivo instalado em uma bancada de testes de vibrações controladas desenvolvida durante o projeto. Os resultados mostram a eficácia da metodologia proposta, uma vez que os resultados experimentais mostraram boa concordância com os resultados esperados. / This work presents an innovative linear electromagnetic actuator design methodology for application in semi-active and active suspension systems. The methodology, synthesized in a flowchart, sets criteria to determine requirements such as axial force and stroke that an actuator should develop considering a vibration system with one degree of freedom with harmonic base excitation when the skyhook control method is applied. A linear moving-coil electromagnetic actuator with dual quasi-Halbach arrays of permanent magnets that presents high force density, low moving-mass, no reluctance force and low force ripple is defined as a case study. A finite element numerical parameterized model that describes the electromagnetic behavior of one pole pitch of the device is created and analyzed, considering dimensional constraints, with the design objectives defined as: high force density and low ripple of force with brushless AC drive. Based on the model of one pole pitch of the device the active volume and all dimensions are defined in order to meet the design requirements. Once the actuator dimensions are defined, based on the electromagnetic model, a numerical thermal model was constructed, which allows to evaluate the maximum applicable electric current density so that the maximum temperature at the windings is not exceeded. Furthermore, the thermal distribution gives the operating temperature of the permanent magnets, which present performance highly dependent on temperature. With the results of the thermal simulation, the electromagnetic-thermal coupling is performed by correcting permanent magnet properties and by applying a parametric-dependent effective current density. The coupled model is simulated and analyzed so that the final dimensions of the actuator can be obtained with the same design objectives previously mentioned, while respecting thermal operating limits. In addition, the work presents analytical models of the electromagnetic and thermal behavior of the actuator that can be the basis for implementation of the proposed methodology, if it is based on analytical models, and can further be used for the application of mathematical optimization of the device. Finally, a prototype was built to validate the proposed method. Measurements were carried out to assess magnetic flux density in the air gap, open-circuit induced voltage, static force and dynamic tests with the device installed in a test bench that was developed during this work. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed method since experimental results have shown good agreement with the expected results.

L'amélioration permanente de la qualité et des performances des systèmes automatiques constitue un défi majeur dans la théorie du contrôle. La théorieHinf a permis d'améliorer considérablement les performances des correcteurs. Ces derniers reposent sur des modèles mathématiques qui sont potentiellement d'ordre élevé (c.-à-d. comprenant un nombre élevé d'équations différentielles). De plus, l'ajout de poids de pondérations spécifiant les performances à respecter accroit encore plus leur ordre. La complexité algorithmique résultante peut alors rendre leur implantation difficile voire même impossible pour un fonctionnement en temps réel.Les travaux présentés visent à réduire l'ordre de correcteurs Hinf dans le but de faciliter leur intégration tout en respectant les performances imposées d'une part et proposent une majoration de l'erreur introduite par l'étape de réduction d'autre part.Dans la littérature, de nombreuses méthodes pour la réduction d'ordre de modèles et de correcteurs des systèmes LTI ont été développées. Ces techniques ont été étudiées, comparées et testées sur un ensemble de benchmarks. S'appuyant sur ces travaux, nous proposons une extension aux systèmes linéaires à paramètres variants (LPV). Pour valider leurs performances, une application sur une commande d'une suspension semi-active a montré l'efficacité des algorithmes de réduction développés. / The work presented in this dissertation is related to the Hinf-LPV-controller orderReduction. This latter consists of the design of a robust reduced-order LPV-controller for LPV-systems. The order reduction issue has been very fairly investigated. However, the case of LPV-control design is slightly discussed. This thesis focuses primarily on two topics: How to obtain an LPV-reduced-order controller even the high order generated by the classical synthesis and how this reduced order controller can deal with a practical engineering problem (semi-active suspension control). In view of this, the order-reduction topic and the Hinf-synthesis theory have been widely studied in this thesis. This study, has allowed the development of a new method forH1-LPV-controller order reduction.

Étude et conception de systèmes miniaturisés « intelligents » pour l’amortissement non-linéaire de vibration / Study and design of "smart" miniaturized systems for non-linear vibration damping

L’amortissement de vibrations mécaniques trouve de nombreuses applications dans le domaine du contrôle acoustique ou de la réduction de contraintes dans l’industrie (machine outil), le génie civil (structure autoportée), ou encore l’aéronautique (réduction de contrainte lors des manoeuvres). Les recherches actuelles tendent principalement vers des méthodes utilisant des matériaux piézoélectriques collés à la surface des structures à traiter. Une technique prometteuse, développée au LGEF à l’INSA de Lyon, est l’amortissement de vibration d’une structure mécanique par méthode SSDI (pour Synchronized Switch Damping on an Inductor). Cette technique d’amortissement semi-active exploite un procédé non-linéaire de traitement de la tension aux bornes d’un élément piézoélectrique, capteur et actionneur à la fois. L’objectif de ce travail est de réaliser l’intégration de l’électronique de traitement de la tension aux bornes des éléments piézoélectriques en technologie microélectronique, afin de pouvoir l’embarquer sur le patch piézoélectrique à terme. Une analyse des techniques d’amortissement publiées permet d’y situer ce travail et de définir les points clés de la technique SSDI. Au deuxième chapitre, un certain nombre de modèles sont développés pour comparer et guider les choix de conception, et pour aboutir à des arbitrages architecturaux. Le troisième chapitre développe la conception d’un ASIC dans une technologie avec option haute tension, comprenant une fonction haute-tension de traitement du signal piézoélectrique et une chaine basse-tension d’analyse, de décision et de commande. La première réalise l’inversion de la tension piézoélectrique à l’aide d’un circuit RLC passif de conversion de l’énergie. La seconde s’attache à la détection des extremums de manière à optimiser l’amortissement. Un diviseur de tension auto-adaptatif avec protection contre les surtensions ainsi qu’un détecteur de pic de tension permettent de réaliser cette opération. Ces fonctions sont caractérisées en simulations et mesures. Le fonctionnement de l’ASIC est ensuite testé sur une structure mécanique, et les performances sont décrites et interprétées au chapitre 4. Le comportement multi-mode et la grande dynamique des signaux mécaniques traités sont des avancées par rapport à la bibliographie. / Mechanical vibration damping has many applications in industry (machine tools), civil engineering (bridge construction), or aeronautics (stress during maneuvers). Current research tends mainly to use piezoelectric materials based methods. A promising technique from the LGEF of INSA Lyon is the vibration damping of mechanical structure by so-called SSDI method (for Synchronized Switch Damping on an Inductor). This semi-active damping technique uses a non-linear process to invert the voltage across a piezoelectric element. The element is used as sensor and actuator at a time. The aim of this work is to achieve an integration of the electronic process with the SSDI voltage inversion in a microelectronic technology. It has ultimately to embed the electronic controller on the piezoelectric patch. The analysis of published damping techniques can situate this work and identify key points of the SSDI technique. In the second chapter, several models are developed to compare and decide of the best architectural design choice. The third chapter presents an ASIC design in a technology with high voltage option. The ASIC consists of a high-voltage piezoelectric signal processing part and a low-voltage control part. The first function performs piezoelectric voltage reversing by mean of a passive RLC energy conversion circuit. The second function focuses on the extremum voltage detection circuit in order to optimize damping efficiency. A self-tuning voltage divider with over-voltage protection and a peak voltage detector can perform this operation. These functions are characterized by simulations and measurements. The ASIC operation is then tested with mechanical structures, and damping performances are described and interpreted in Chapter 4. The multimodal behavior and the mechanical signals high-dynamic are new contribution as regard in the bibliography.

A partir dos resultados da simulação térmica e do modelo eletromagnético para um passo polar, realizou-se o acoplamento eletromagnético-térmico por meio da correção das propriedades dos ímãs permanentes e aplicando uma densidade de corrente eficaz dependente das dimensões do modelo parametrizado. O modelo acoplado é simulado e analisado, de modo que as dimensões finais do atuador podem ser obtidas atendendo aos mesmos objetivos de projeto previamente mencionados, respeitando os limites de operação térmica. Adicionalmente, são apresentados modelos analíticos do comportamento eletromagnético e térmico do atuador que podem servir de base para implementação da metodologia proposta, se esta for baseada em modelos analíticos, e podem futuramente ser empregados para a aplicação de otimização matemática do dispositivo. Por fim, um protótipo do dispositivo é construído de forma a validar a metodologia proposta. Com este protótipo são realizados ensaios de densidade de fluxo magnético no entreferro, tensão induzida a vazio, força estática e ensaio dinâmicos com o dispositivo instalado em uma bancada de testes de vibrações controladas desenvolvida durante o projeto. Os resultados mostram a eficácia da metodologia proposta, uma vez que os resultados experimentais mostraram boa concordância com os resultados esperados. / This work presents an innovative linear electromagnetic actuator design methodology for application in semi-active and active suspension systems. The methodology, synthesized in a flowchart, sets criteria to determine requirements such as axial force and stroke that an actuator should develop considering a vibration system with one degree of freedom with harmonic base excitation when the skyhook control method is applied. A linear moving-coil electromagnetic actuator with dual quasi-Halbach arrays of permanent magnets that presents high force density, low moving-mass, no reluctance force and low force ripple is defined as a case study. A finite element numerical parameterized model that describes the electromagnetic behavior of one pole pitch of the device is created and analyzed, considering dimensional constraints, with the design objectives defined as: high force density and low ripple of force with brushless AC drive. Based on the model of one pole pitch of the device the active volume and all dimensions are defined in order to meet the design requirements. Once the actuator dimensions are defined, based on the electromagnetic model, a numerical thermal model was constructed, which allows to evaluate the maximum applicable electric current density so that the maximum temperature at the windings is not exceeded. Furthermore, the thermal distribution gives the operating temperature of the permanent magnets, which present performance highly dependent on temperature. With the results of the thermal simulation, the electromagnetic-thermal coupling is performed by correcting permanent magnet properties and by applying a parametric-dependent effective current density. The coupled model is simulated and analyzed so that the final dimensions of the actuator can be obtained with the same design objectives previously mentioned, while respecting thermal operating limits. In addition, the work presents analytical models of the electromagnetic and thermal behavior of the actuator that can be the basis for implementation of the proposed methodology, if it is based on analytical models, and can further be used for the application of mathematical optimization of the device. Finally, a prototype was built to validate the proposed method. Measurements were carried out to assess magnetic flux density in the air gap, open-circuit induced voltage, static force and dynamic tests with the device installed in a test bench that was developed during this work. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed method since experimental results have shown good agreement with the expected results.

Utiliza-se para essa análise, Amortecedores Ativos Controlados por Atuadores Piezelétricos, denominados em inglês por Piezoelectric Friction Damper (PFD). A aplicação da metodologia é realizada em máquinas rotativas modeladas pelo Método dos Elementos Finitos e em um protótipo projetado e construído em laboratório. Os resultados procuram atenuar os níveis de vibrações e demonstram a viabilidade da aplicação de PFDs em estruturas. / Nowadays industries have shown great interest in developing new techniques for vibration control. The target is getting acceptable values of the amplitudes of vibrations in systems, ensuring proper working order avoiding failures. This is a scientific area of very important and approach fields of modern engineering. Currently this technology is growing and large investments has been applied in its development. This paper presents results obtained for active and semi-active techniques vibration control, where the structural changes are from the modification of stiffness and damping. It is used for this analysis a system known by Piezoelectric Friction Damper (PFD). The methodology was applied in rotating machines modeled by finite element method and in a prototype designed and built in the laboratory. The results try to mitigate the vibration levels and demonstrate the feasibility of applying PFDs in rotating machine.

This diploma thesis covers the topic of magnetic fluids and their utilisation in hydrodynamic dampers. The first part of the work consists of research on the current state of technology in hydraulic dampers with the focus on dampers using magnetorhelogical fluid. This chapter is followed by research on magnetic fluids with regard to their physical properties and mathematical description, which is used for CFD simulation of flow. The second part deals with the computational simulation of the flow of MR liquid in real MR damper in order to determine the damping characteristic and it's comparison with the experimental data.

Multi-objective optimization and performance evaluation of active, semi-active and passive suspensions for forestry machines / Flermålsoptimering och utvärdering av prestandan hos aktiva, semi-aktiva och passiva fjädringssystem för skogsmaskiner

The development of forestry machines is currently heading towards new solutions that reduce their impact on the environment and in particular on the soft forest soil in which the machines operate. The terrain conditions that forestry machines encounter in their regular duties can be very rough, and if the vehicle-ground interaction is not properly controlled cumulative damage can progressively aggravate these conditions and potentially render a route or a zone impracticable, apart from causing a detrimental effect in the forest environment. In addition, new machine solutions must be considerably less damaging, both physically and mentally, to operators. There are certain imposed limits to the whole body vibrations to which industrial workers are exposed daily, which are very hard to fulfil in the context of wood harvesting operations with the current technological state of the machines. Chassis-suspended solutions in the market of forestry vehicles are practically inexistent. Multiple wheeled tracks and/or bogies are current solutions that improve dynamic performance and ground contact area of forestry vehicles, but they do not include suspension elements. Cab and seat suspensions are also used to reduce whole body vibrations, but they are only effective up to a certain degree, due to their relatively short stroke length and directional limitations. The implementation of chassis suspensions in forestry machines is therefore a very interesting open area of research in forestry technology. In this context the XT28, a forwarder prototype with active pendulum arm suspension, is currently being developed by Extractor AB in collaboration with Skogforsk; the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden. The present project focuses in analysis and comparison of the performance that active, semi-active and passive suspension systems with pendulum arm architecture would present, by studying their application in the XT28 machine. These systems have the potential to significantly improve forestry vehicle performance in terms of terrain friendliness and whole body vibrations over an unsuspended system. The task is carried out with the help of Multi-Body Dynamics simulation software along with other simulation and computational tools. Additionally, a general method to optimize and analyse forestry vehicle suspension performance is proposed and applied to the case of the XT28, which provides a fair and standardized way to compare the performance of the different suspensions. Skogsmaskinerna verkar ofta i mycket oländig och ojämn terräng, och om interaktionen mellan fordon och mark är alltför okontrollerad, så kan interaktionen ge upphov till kumulativa markskador som gradvis förvärras efter flera passager och eventuellt göra en rutt eller en zon oframkomlig, bortsett från att de orsaka skador på skogsmiljön. Dessutom måste nya maskinlösningar vara skonsammare, både fysiskt och mentalt, för förarna. Det finns nya gränser för maximala helkroppsvibrationer och maximala dagliga vibrationsdoser, som är mycket svåra att uppfylla vid skogsavverkning med dagens skogsmaskinsteknik. Chassidämpade lösningar är praktiskt taget obefintliga på dagens skogsmaskiner. Band och/eller boggier är aktuella lösningar som i viss mån förbättrar maskinernas dynamisk interaktion med marken, men de innehåller inga dämpelement, utan det är enbart däckens flexibilitet som ger maskinen en dämpfunktion. Hytt-och stolsdämpning används också för att minska helkroppsvibrationer, men de är endast effektiva till en viss grad, på grund av deras relativt korta slaglängd och riktningsbegränsningar. Införande av chassidämpning för skogsmaskiner är därför ett mycket intressant skogstekniskt forskningsområde. För närvarande utvecklas en skotare med aktivt dämpade pendelarmar av Extractor AB i samarbete med Skogforsk. Maskinen går under beteckningen XT28. Detta projekt fokuserar på att analysera och jämföra prestandan hos aktivt, semi-aktivt och passivt dämpade pendelarmlösningar, genom att implementera dessa i XT28-maskinen. Dessa system har potential att avsevärt förbättra skogsmaskinernas framkomlighet i oländig terräng och att minska helkroppsvibrationerna, jämfört med ofjädrade system. Uppgiften genomförs med hjälp av dynamiksimuleringsprogram i kombination med andra simulerings- och beräkningsverktyg. Dessutom föreslås en generell metodik för att optimera och analysera prestandan hos chassidämpningslösningar för skogsmaskiner. Metodiken tillämpas sedan på en XT28, som då, i detta fall, får fungera som en demonstrator för att jämföra prestandan hos olika chassidämplösningar.
