La fonction du sujet et la temporalité des états délirants : prolégomènes à la clinique de l’extériorité / The function of the subject and the temporality of delusional states : prolegomena for the clinic of exteriority

Tyranowski, Raphaël Lucas 07 October 2017 (has links)
The present research seeks to shed light on the relationship between the subject, delusion and time. The premises of this question are essentially clinical: in our practice we have encountered delusional patients whose states have presented subjective organizations that could not be described or understood in traditional terminology of psychiatry or psychology. This clinical experience has confronted us with two major difficulties: firstly, the subjective organization of the delusion often contradicts the psychological conception of the subject, secondly, in many cases the attempt to reduce the clinical form of delusion to the medical conception of continuous evolution leads to a ignorance of the subjective basis of the temporal organization of the phenomenon. In our work we demonstrate that the delusional phenomenon demands a concept of the subject and a notion of time, which meet the requirement of its clinical structure. Firstly, by re-examining the classic clinic of delusional states in the structural perspective, we explain why the study of delusional states requires a transgression of the traditional psychopathology approach. Then, on the basis of the detailed elaboration of the concept of logical time, we conceptualize a clinical approach, which shows that the relation between delusion formation and time is a discontinuous series of modes of subjectivation of jouissance which permit to identify the temporality of delusion with an arrangement of the succession of modes of temporalization. Thereby our research results in demonstrating the thesis, which postulates a structural solidarity of the function of the subject with the function-time in the clinic of delusional states.

Nunes, Lucia Maria 20 February 2002 (has links)
This work ponders on the written production of Elaine, a youth bearing deep bilateral deafness, from the perspective of psychoanalysis. This means the inclusion of the subject as an effect of language, in which the written production is considered as the manifestation of a subjective inscription. The option for the psychoanalytic concepts opens up a locus of opposition to the methods of observation, to the marginalizing of the different, and to the notion of development. Thus I follow the line inaugurated by Freud in relation to the illumination of the so-called ¿normal¿ processes by the exploitation of the pathology. I argue, following Leite(1999), that the integrity of the organism is not a sufficient condition for the acquisition of language, in the sense that the inclusion of the subject in language does not constitute in itself an act which can be reduced to the cognitive or biological spheres but makes one consider the structuration of the subject in a tissue woven in the logic of the effectuation of speech in the field of language. The concept of language here adopted allowed me to analyze the written texts which emphasized the relationship body/language. Establishing this relationship means being able to say something about Elaine¿s psychic structure, about what may have been inscribed in her body and how much of this can be present in her writing as an effect. In order to achieve this, I bring forth the hypothesis of the origin of writing that resulted from Lacan¿s rereading of Freudian researches. This hypothesis is the basis of my argument that Elaine¿s relation to writing reflects a psychic structure which is the result of the characteristic singularity with which every subject enters the symbolic order, instead of having been determined by educational proceedings only / Doutorado / Linguistica / Doutor em Linguística

Utan ord - En granskning av Shaun Tans verk Ankomsten, ur ett visuellt semiotiskt perspektiv

Ullerud, Catharina January 2018 (has links)
This paper investigates if it is possible to explain why pictures in Shaun Tans book The Arrival are experienced as unpleasant. The theory of the essay is mainly based on "das unheimlich" coined by Freud and is in the essay described as “uncanny”. Other theories are based on cognitive dissonance and hyperbole. In order to analyse the images content, questions based on the basic points of the theories are defined. As a result, it turns out nearly all pictures are linked to uncanny, sometimes in combination with other theories. Analyses regarding if scale and proportions of objects can make an impact are also made, based on the "frog perspective". Some similarities between images in “The Arrival” and propaganda posters from World War II can be observed, which can be linked to mental triggers. In the discussions, it is made clear that the research could have developed further if more reasons for discomfort were investigated while observing the images. There was also a problem with explaining why many observers are experiencing some elements as unpleasant and these elements are in the paper referred to as phobias, even though this not quite accurate and should be referred to as fears. In order to carry on further research, focus groups are suggested to test perceptions with a quantitative method. Also, to look at the story from a gender perspective, and to see what would be different if the main character was a female.

Investigating the subject's identity : the critical treatment of the Lacanian-Althusserian dialectic and subjectivity formation in James Joyce's 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'

Sadjadi, Seyed Bakhtiar January 2010 (has links)
Critically examining the Lacanian and Althusserian theories of the subject, this thesis explored the theoretical problems and methodological premises of a converged version of both theories. The central argument the present thesis seeks to demonstrate is that the Lacanian-Althusserian dialectic provides a more comprehensive and effective account of the process of the subject formation than a purely psychoanalytical or structuralist Marxist analysis of the term. After a critical study of the way the subject is positioned between language and ideology in contemporary critical theory the thesis proceeds to investigate the subject-object relation in the Cartesian and Hegelian subjects. Conceived of as the convergence of lack and material, the Lacanian-Althusserian dialectic focuses on the close affinity between the Lacanian notion of linguistic alienation and the Althusserian concept of ideological interpellation. The subject’s alienation with what is called in the thesis ‘ideological signifier’ is considered as the result of direct and dramatic modes of interpellation in both language acquisition process and the mature phase. The major theoretical premises of this model include the following: first, identity functions through, and because of, the ‘inter-subjective dialectic’ and an ‘intra-subjective lack.’ Identity is never fully constituted because of this antagonism, and thus remains ‘incomplete.’ Secondly, the subject is ideologically constituted through language. The mechanism through which both language and ideology construct a subject never permits the subject enjoying a state of full identity with ideological signifiers. Thirdly, the subject’s identity is represented in the language exposed to and, later, reproduced by him/her. In order to demonstrate a practical reading of subjectivity formation in terms of this critical approach the present research applies it to James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916). The process of the subject formation has been analysed through the subject’s alienation/interpellation by the ISAs. Also, the inter-subjective dialectic between different subjectivities of the subject’s identity has been investigated. The thesis demonstrates that identity reconstruction represented in the novel is a complicated and ongoing process, which begins with disillusionment, goes through materialization of epiphany, and ends with inventiveness in language. This process has been represented as a move from ideological to non-ideological subjectivity through artistic creativity. The exploration of the aesthetics of language is crucial to the analysis of the reconstruction of Stephen Dedalus’ identity in that it happens in and through language.

Canonge, Xavier 08 October 2011 (has links)
Our research has been informed by the sensitivity of juvenile delinquents to a negative external regard. This regard reveals an image, which places the subject at the level of an expendable object, the dregs of the Other. Tempted by this image, they conform to this object, which is the embodiment of the delinquency. We can see that the marks and badges of delinquency trap the subject, blocking the signifier. Delinquency, therefore, becomes seductive as it is an honorary badge that solves the problem of identity by giving extra information that helps the subject create a sense of self. By conforming to this regard, even though it is negative, the subject can avoid the symbolic castration. The Imaginary plays a central role in our conception of delinquency and in the constitution of the adolescent subject who chooses the temptation of delinquency. We propose a particular state of the structure that uses the imaginary as a way to make the link between the Real and the Symbolic.

Oliveira, Flavia Simões de 19 June 2015 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Flavia Simoes De Oliveira.pdf: 800239 bytes, checksum: 12f280ffb411240f1550f97626e6bdae (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-06-19 / This study discourses on money articulation in 21th century, as well as its subjective significations and cultural consequences: the coinage concerned as the master spring which determines contemporary life directions and defines the human relationships. On this account, it is presented a brief history of the monetary element in order to track its route from exchanging times to the present, once it occupies the hegemony place in the ruling capitalist system. Additionally, the investigation pursues a social, semiotic and psychoanalytic explanation for the global money phenomenon. Thus, as the basis for this research, the pecuniary unit is regarded sometimes as a sign and sometimes as a signifier, and semiotic perspective is considered for its theorization, since it is the universal mediator and cultural sign par excellence. Moreover, psychoanalysis is employed to elucidate the signifier value of money and its phallic correspondence. At last, it is presented a discussion on the relation between both libidinal desire and pleasure economies involved in the interaction with money, by analyzing the biographical Jordan Belfort s book and its cinematographic adaptation, The Wolf of Wall Street. The biography tells the story of a stockbroker who reports in detail his millionaire routine, his rapid enrichment and consequences of his unrestrained greed. In conclusion, through the semiotic analysis developed in this study, it is confirmed that money approaches to imaginary phallus and consequently it is proved Lacanian´s assertion that money is the most deadly existing object / O presente trabalho disserta sobre as articulações do dinheiro no século XXI, suas significações subjetivas e consequências culturais: a moeda, pensada como a mola mestra que determina os rumos da vida contemporânea e define as relações humanas.

Destabilizing science from the right : the rhetoric of heterosexual victimage in the World Health Organization's HIV/AIDS controversy

Mack, Ashley N. 03 September 2009 (has links)
In this project, I am interrogating discourse surrounding the 2008 WHO/UNAIDS controversy, which both preceded and followed the publication of an article in the U.K. newspaper The Independent. The article reported that the head of the World Health Organization’s HIV/AIDS initiative admitted that the threat of an AIDS pandemic among heterosexuals was “officially” over. These texts are particularly important for such an endeavor because, as I will argue below, the controversy enables both “AIDS” and “heterosexuality” to operate as floating signifiers whose meanings are contested in public discourse in ways that ultimately reinforce heterosexual privilege and under-attention to the AIDS crisis. In the end, the destabilization of the meaning of HIV/AIDS does not serve emancipatory ends. Although the destabilization of meaning is the emancipatory gesture ‘par excellence’ for the poststructuralist tradition, my investigation shows that the destabilization of meaning in the WHO controversy actually results in the reification of master narratives. / text

Rocha, Ina Mirely Oliveira da 15 April 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-05-14T12:40:08Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 701963 bytes, checksum: d606202aada9a4b8625e2ea4ea26024d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-04-15 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This work aims to discuss the relationship between the subject and the language in the rapprochement between linguistics and psychoanalysis. Based on the studies of Saussure's linguistic sign and Lacan s signifier, we seek to observe the subject as a result of the movement of signifiers. This is not an analysis of the subject of the unconscious, but an attempt to understand the subject as an effect of language as a result of movements of sign and signifier. We present, in part, the analysis of Lacan's short story "The Purloined Letter," regarding the subject as a result of movement of signifiers, and provide an important contribution based on Saussurean linguistics, whose studies concern the language as a system, taking Saussure s metaphor of the chess game as our basis. We observe the movements of the characters of the story and their relationship with the movements of the letter, the letter which entitles the tale. We demonstrate the Saussurean approach for language as a system and its operation, highlighting all the concepts inherent to the system, going from the general to its constituent units. On the side of psychoanalysis, we assume the signifier in Lacan, relating the movements of this signifier to the movements of the Saussurean sign. It is from this relationship that we try to understand the subject as an effect of language, the subject that we address in this interface. As a result of this rapprochement between Saussurean linguistics and Lacanian psychoanalysis, we bring the subject, no longer the one of the unconscious or the one of language, but a subject resulting from the movements in the short story "The Purloined Letter", based on the theoretical dialogue developed in this dissertation.
