In order to achieve this research, we used two corpora denominated university level speakers and elementary school 1 speakers,a total of 24 surveys, twelve for each sample, which were divided into three age groups. The samples belong to the project called A L?ngua Portuguesa no Semi?rido Baiano, based on the N?cleo de Estudos da L?ngua PortuguesaUniversidade Estadual de Feira de Santana- Ba.This research aims to verify if the Portuguese spoken in Feira de Santana has shown a tendency to fill the subject. In order to achieve this goal we compare the two samples as well as dialogue with other researches. The analysis took as theoretical assumption the principles of Quantitative Sociolinguistics that through the statistical model correlates the variable under study withsocial and linguistic factors, providing a value (relative importance) for each one. The analysis of the results indicated a greater realization of the subject onthe Portuguese spoken by the most educated people; the study in apparent time showed that the elementary school I Portuguese is in the process of a possible change. / Neste estudo, analisa-se o preenchimento do sujeito de 1? ps. no portugu?s de Feira de Santana. Para a concretiza??o dessa pesquisa, foram utilizados dois corpora denominados de falantes universit?rios e falantes do ensino fundamental I, totalizando 24 inqu?ritos, sendo doze para cada amostra, os quais foram distribu?dos em tr?s faixas et?rias. As amostras selecionadas pertencem ao projeto A l?ngua portuguesa no semi?rido baiano,sediado no N?cleo de Estudos da L?ngua Portuguesa, da Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana -Ba. Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo verificar se oportugu?s feirense vem apresentando uma tend?ncia para o preenchimento do sujeito, por isso buscou-se comparar as duas amostras, bem como dialogar com outras pesquisas. Os corpora analisados tomaram como pressuposto te?rico os princ?pios da Sociolingu?stica Quantitativa que, por meio do modelo estat?stico, correlaciona a vari?vel em estudo a fatores sociais e lingu?sticos, fornecendo um valor (peso relativo) para cada uma. Fluorescence Molecular Tomography: A New Volume Reconstruction Method

Medical imaging is critical for the detection and diagnosis of disease, guided biopsies, assessment of therapies, and administration of treatment. While computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and ultra-sound (US) are the more familiar modalities, interest in yet other modalities continues to grow. Among the motivations are reduction of cost, avoidance of ionizing radiation, and the search for new information, including biochemical and molecular processes. Fluorescence Molecular Tomography (FMT) is one such emerging technique and, like other techniques, has its advantages and limitations. FMT can reconstruct the distribution of fluorescent molecules in vivo using near-infrared radiation or visible band light to illuminate the subject. FMT is very safe since non-ionizing radiation is used, and inexpensive due to the comparatively low cost of the imaging system. This should make it particularly well suited for small animal studies for research. A broad range of cell activity can be identified by FMT, making it a potentially valuable tool for cancer screening, drug discovery and gene therapy. Since FMT imaging is scattering dominated, reconstruction of volume images is significantly more computationally intensive than for CT. For instance, to reconstruct a 32x32x32 image, a flattened matrix with approximately 10¹°, or 10 billion, elements must be dealt with in the inverse problem, while requiring more than 100 GB of memory. To reduce the error introduced by noisy measurements, significantly more measurements are needed, leading to a proportionally larger matrix. The computational complexity of reconstructing FMT images, along with inaccuracies in photon propagation models, has heretofore limited the resolution and accuracy of FMT. To surmount the problems stated above, we decompose the forward problem into a Khatri-Rao product. Inversion of this model is shown to lead to a novel reconstruction method that significantly reduces the computational complexity and memory requirements for overdetermined datasets. Compared to the well known SVD approach, this new reconstruction method decreases computation time by a factor of up to 25, while simultaneously reducing the memory requirement by up to three orders of magnitude. Using this method, we have reconstructed images up to 32x32x32. Also outlined is a two step approach which would enable imaging larger volumes. However, it remains a topic for future research. In achieving the above, the author studied the physics of FMT, developed an extensive set of original computer programs, performed COMSOL simulations on photon diffusion, and unavoidably, developed visual displays.

Automatisches Differenzieren und minimal erweiterte Systeme zur Berechnung singulärer Punkte

Zur Bestimmung singulärer Punkte eines bestimmten Typs muss eine zugehörige reduzierte Funktion und deren Ableitungen bestimmte Bedingungen erfüllen. Dabei ist diese reduzierte Funktion implizit durch ein nichtlineares Gleichungssystem definiert. Man erhält letztendlich ein minimal erweitertes System, das auch Ableitungen der reduzierten Funktion enthält,und den singulären Punkt als reguläre Lösung besitzt. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Technik des automatischen Differenzierens für die Vorwärtsmethode dargestellt, insbesondere wird die Differentiation iterativer Verfahren untersucht. Es wird ein Überblick über die Theorie von singulären Punkten gegeben und das Erkennungsproblem definiert. Ein zweistufiges Verfahren zur Bestimmung singulärer Punkte wird auf Basis der Vorwärtsmethode und des Newton-Verfahrens beschrieben und wurde an verschiedenen Typen von singulären Punkten getestet.

This paper is devoted to asymptotic estimates for the condition numbers $\kappa(T_n(a))=||T_n(a)|| ||T_n^(-1)(a)||$ of large $n\cross n$ Toeplitz matrices $T_N(a)$ in the case where $\alpha \element L^\infinity$ and $Re \alpha \ge 0$ . We describe several classes of symbols $\alpha$ for which $\kappa(T_n(a))$ increases like $(log n)^\alpha, n^\alpha$ , or even $e^(\alpha n)$ . The consequences of the results for singular values, eigenvalues, and the finite section method are discussed. We also consider Wiener-Hopf integral operators and multidimensional Toeplitz operators.

Local theory of projection methods for Cauchy singular integral equations on an interval

We consider a finite section (Galerkin) and a collocation method for Cauchy singular integral equations on the interval based on weighted Chebyshev polymoninals, where the coefficients of the operator are piecewise continuous. Stability conditions are derived using Banach algebra techniques, where also the system case is mentioned. With the help of appropriate Sobolev spaces a result on convergence rates is proved. Computational aspects are discussed in order to develop an effective algorithm. Numerical results, also for a class of nonlinear singular integral equations, are presented.
