Aristotle on social media? : Investigating non-profit organizations’ usage of persuasive language in their posts on Twitter and Facebook

This study investigates how non-profit organizations market their organizations and persuades their audience on two different social media platforms. The aim is to examine four non-profit organizations’ use of persuasive language in their Facebook and Twitter posts.  in their Facebook and Twitter posts on their social media pages. The aim is to understand if, how and what linguistic means was are used in the posts through Aristotle’s triangle of rhetoric. His theory consists of the three appeals: ethos, logos and pathos. These three appeals all holds a number of individual features.  with a perspective from classic rhetoric, namely Aristotle’s triangle of rhetoric. The persuasion was examined using Aristotle’s triangle of rhetoric and its appeals ethos, logos, and pathos. The research was carried out by classifying the posts by the three appeals and their features. These defined what linguistic means were used and how. All three appeals are equally important when persuading an audience  public through a text as they are necessary to raise an understanding and interest to the text’s focus. Aristotle argued that when including all three appeals, the text has reached its full extent potential of persuasion. The appeals have their unique attributes and may also persuade when used individually. The An author’s credibility and trust applies to the appeal ethos, logic and reasoning in a of the text applies to logos, and a text that moves its reader’s emotions applies to pathos. The research resulted that aWhether a text’s length matters for its persuasion through a comparison of  the two social media platformshas also been examined through comparing the two social media platformsw. Non-profit organizations do not strive for any profit which make it a challenge for them how to market persuade their organization audience in order and actually be able to be able to continue their work. Many of the posts researched included the appeal pathos which aim mainly to evoke emotions with the readers.

Content creation activities related to content marketing through social media. : A qualitative study in a B2B context

Background: Companies have lately been engaging their business activities onto social mediaand its platforms. They are taking advantage of the opportunities provided by social media and they are starting to realize the importance of content marketing. Problem Discussion: Content marketing has been researched previously research. However, the research regarding B2B content marketing and the differences between B2B and B2C content is still rather limited. The question lingers whether the same principles apply to firms working with B2B as well. Moreover, a clear framework or guide regarding the way that content should be created does not yet exist – a guide including the aspects may be taken into account when creating content and implementing content marketing. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand and describe how companies deal with the content creation process, within content marketing through social media. Research Question: How do companies handle content creation for content marketing through social media? Methodology: This thesis has taken a qualitative and abductive approach on the study. It hasbeen based on a multiple-case study, where semi-structured interviews took place with sevenfirms working with content marketing and content creation - in a B2B context. Conclusion: All seven firms have a uniform understanding of content marketing, aligned withprevious research. The study concludes that there are similarities between the ways that companies handle content marketing. Furthermore, the study concludes that there are general traits that needs to always be taken into consideration when creating content s.a. long term planning, providing value to the customer, well thought out message and choosing the right channels for content distribution.

A TAILORED MENU OF DRUGS: THE ADVERTISEMENT AND SALE OF DRUGS ON TIKTOK : A NETNOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF THE SWEDISH DRUG DEALING MARKET ON A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM

PURPOSE - The issue of drug markets on social media platforms are under-researched. To help address the research gap, this paper accounts for the emerging drug dealing trends surrounding the community on TikTok. The purpose of this paper is to understand how drug dealers use a trending social media platform, namely TikTok, to advertise and sell illegal drugs and how the environment on TikTok facilitates drug promotions on the platform. METHOD - Data were gathered during seven weeks of netnographic fieldwork conducted among Swedish accounts on TikTok marketing drugs through video- and image posts. All evidence of content in which drug marketing was evident, including drug dealer profiles and open interactions of drug dealers and customers in the comment sections, was saved, coded and analyzed. The concepts of routine activity theory were applied and discussed in relation to the prevalence of the drug markets on TikTok. FINDINGS - In total, 116 posts with content of advertisements of illegal drugs were identified, divided into 43 Sweden-based profiles. Some drug dealer profiles were more professional than others and offered various drug types and services. Drug dealers adopted several marketing strategies, facilitated by the functions and algorithms of TikTok, to promote their drug dealing profiles and promotions. KEYWORDS -  netnography, cyber-environment, drug promotion, sale of drugs, algorithms, social media platforms, drug dealing activity. / TikTok, a social media platform which has grown to be one of the most popular communities globally to create and share short videos and live streams with millions of viewers everyday has recently become a new way of promoting the sale and distribution of illegal drugs. Drug dealing on TikTok has recently caught the attention of the Swedish news media, since Swedish Police Officers have reported observing increasingly more drug advertisements flourish in the comment sections with various code words for drugs, such as snow emojis symbolizing cocaine (Dagens Nyheter, 2021; Aftonbladet, 2021). This trend is an urgent issue; not only because of the increasingly strategic marketing strategies targeting young users on the platform with readily available menus of illegal drugs in supply available 24/7, but considering the thousands of minors who may be influenced by the increasingly more approachable promotions and readily available distribution offers; and the consequences of young people's health and well-being that follows. By exploring the settings of TikTok through a netnographic method, this study aims to identify the marketing and sale of drugs on TikTok and account for characteristics surrounding the drug dealing activity.

2022 is election year in Sweden and at the same time we are approaching year 2030 fast. Because of that, it is of interest to analyze how the Swedish government is communicating Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, with a special focus on climate and the environment, on their official Instagram account and website. This thesis performed with a qualitative content analysis aims to analyze and compare the representation of these subjects with the help of the theoretical framework of critical theory and its critical political economy of media and communication. This allows for a critical analysis of how communication is presented on the different platforms and if the main focuses differ between them. Statistics from Internetstiftelsen (2022) shows how Instagram is the main social platform used by first-time voters and therefore it is of importance to analyze the communication posted there. At the same time the Instagram posts refers to the website in some cases, hence, it is important to analyze the communication published there as well to be able to make an accurate comparison between the platforms.  The collected material consists of articles and Instagram posts that has been coded, thematized and analyzed with the help of software analyze tool. It resulted in an accurate visualization of how large percentage of the coded themes was present in the chosen material. Analyzing the material opened a discussion on how the communication does differ on the two platforms. The communication done on Instagram has a strong focus on what Sweden has done with regards to Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, what they are doing and how well they are performing. Nevertheless, it rarely discusses what Agenda 2030 is, how the SDGs are constructed or what it takes to achieve them. This information can however be found on the website, a platform which is visited less often than Instagram by first-time voters. To increase political interest and knowledge amongst the younger generation, changes in the communication must be done. Otherwise, we might see ourselves in a situation where the interest in making crucial changes decreases and thereby jeopardizes our chances of achieving Agenda 2030.

The past decade has endorsed an extensive adjustment in social media marketing characterized by a fluctuation toward influencer marketing. Despite the many beneficial outcomes of influencer marketing, the operation of the phenomenon has received criticism from organizations, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well as the Swedish equivalent Konsumentverket, regarding how sponsorships are being disclosed on social media platforms. The purpose of this study is to examine how consumers’ advertising recognition is affected by the way influencers design their sponsorship disclosures in Instagram stories using the tools provided by Instagram’s own UI. The study used a mixed-methods approach, with a survey used to gather empirical data which was then analyzed using descriptive and thematic analysis. In the survey, participants were presented with five different fictive Instagram stories featuring sponsorship disclosures created by influencers using Instagram's own UI, with each scenario examining how different disclosure approaches affect consumer advertising recognition. The findings revealed that varied sponsorship disclosure practices generated different levels of advertising recognition depending on three factors: position, language, and visual prominence, with visual prominence being the most influential factor on advertising recognition. The study also looked into the efficacy of Instagram’s built-in disclosure tool and whether it was successful in generating advertising recognition. Although opinions were mixed, several participants believed that the tool did not produce enough advertising recognition and that it should be improved. Further, there is a need to achieve a better level of standardization regarding sponsorship disclosures on social media platforms.

I dagens överfyllda media flöde anser vi att det är svårt för organisationer att nå ut och behållakonsument relationer på grund av den stora konkurrensen. Många strategier bygger idag på attbygga unika konsumentrelationer eftersom detta är svårt för konkurrenter att efterlikna. Detsaknas kunskap i hur organisationer på bästa att kan utforma sina marknadsföringsutskick föratt uppmärksammas och att skapa konkurrensfördelar inom social media. Syftet med dennastudie var att ta få ökad kunskap om hur organisationer bättre kan skapa konsumentrelationeroch konsumentinteraktioner i sociala medier. Denna kunskap tog vi fram genom att utföra sexseparata semistrukturerade djup-intervjuer med social media användare som hölls på CampusVarberg. De blev tillfrågade om deras beteende och hur de såg på social media användningensamt olika typer av utskick. Vi fördjupade oss ytterligare genom att inrikta oss mothälsotrenden. Därigenom utvann vi faktorer som användarna ansåg var avgörande samt doldavärden som vi kunde avläsa. Vi samlade ihop de faktorer som kan inverka på utformningen avorganisationers relationsmarknadsföringsutskick i sociala medier. Faktorerna berörde behov,motiv och värderingar. Därefter delades faktorerna in utefter våra fyra olika kategorier;grundläggande faktorer, konstanta faktorer, icke-konstanta och icke uppskattade faktorer.Studien kommer fram till att grundläggande faktorerna är grunden till alla utskick och dekonstanta faktorerna involverar högsta nivån av de grundläggande mänskliga behoven som vianser oföränderliga. Därefter namngav vi faktorer kopplade utskick med trenden hälsa somicke-konstanta faktorerna. Dessa särskiljs eftersom vi ser dem som föränderliga med tiden ochförändras utefter vilken trend som uppstår. Slutligen involverar de icke-uppskattadefaktorerna de faktorer som kom fram till att organisationerna måste undvika i sina utskick.

"Me, my selfie and I" : A qualitative study of reasons, experiences andbeliefs connected to human computer interaction in the context of selfieculture.

This research paper illustrates the social effects of social media and selfie posting on older age generations. These generational groups are called “Baby-boomers” and “Baby-busts” and are born before the existence of Internet and social media and therefore have had to adapt to the online context. The goal of this study is to make comparison between younger and older generations in terms of experiences, beliefs and feelings they encounter when posting and observing self-photos.  By using Semi-structured Qualitative interviews, which is set up as an interview guide based on questions designed to give open ended answers, we had the possibility to obtain a deeper understanding of the topic studied. This study has shown different perspectives of how generations born before the Internet era have adapted to social platforms and how they understood the selfie culture. Results identified have proven older age generations have higher level of self-esteem and prefer posting real and honest selfies, whereas the younger ones are interested in their looks and appearance on social media and they value their popularity by the number of likes received for their self-photos. As we discovered that likes and followers have no value for participants in our study, we concluded there is no reason like popularity seeking beneath their selfie posting habits. The target group in this study is instead using social media accounts as a source of inspiration, communication channel or a marketing tool for their professional life.

Examining the impact of social media influencer’s credibility dimensions on consumer behavior

Purpose: The study aims to explore the effects of social media influencers' credibilitydimensions (attractiveness, trustworthiness, and expertise) on consumer behavior (purchase intention and attitude towards the brand) while considering the followers' loyalty as the mediating variable in the fashion industry.Theoretical approach: The proposed conceptual model of the study is based on assumptions of source credibility theory and theoretical reasonings provided in the previous literature related to social media influencer marketing.Design/methodology: Quantitative research design is used and data is collected through selfreported questionnaires. The population of the study consists of social media users who follow social media influencers on different social media platforms. Findings – Based on data collection from 225 Pakistani respondents, the analysis of the study indicates a positive impact of the three social media influencer credibility dimensions on the purchase intention, and followers’ attitude towards the endorsed brands. Moreover, influencers’ credibility positively impacts followers’ loyalty to the influencers. In addition to the direct effects, followers’ loyalty towards the influencers partially mediated (1) the relationship between influencers’ credibility and purchase intention, as well as (2) the relationship betweeninfluencers’ credibility and followers’ attitude towards the brand. Practical implications – The findings of the thesis provide implications for businesses and marketers to understand the role of credible social media influencers in shaping consumer behavior and it also answers the question of how they influence it.Originality/value – This study adds to the influencer marketing literature by investigating the mediating role of followers’ loyalty in between the relationship of influencer’s credibility and purchase intention of followers as well as their attitude towards the brand.

AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF TRUST & SAFETY ENGINEERING IN OPEN-SOURCE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

<p>    </p> <p>Social Media Platforms (SMPs) are used by almost 60% of the global population. Along with the ubiquity of SMPs, there are increasing Trust & Safety (T&S) risks that expose users to spam, harassment, abuse, and other harmful content online. <em>T&S Engineering </em>is an emerging area of software engineering striving to mitigate these risks. This study provides the first step in understanding this form of software engineering.</p> <p>This study examines how T&S Engineering is practiced by SMP engineers. I studied two open-source (OSS) SMPs, Mastodon and Diaspora, which comprise 89% of the 9.6 million OSS SMP accounts. I focused on the T&S design process by analyzing T&S discussions within 60 GitHub issues. I applied a T&S discussion model to taxonomize the T&S risks, T&S engineering patterns, and resolution rationales. I found that T&S issues persist throughout a platform’s lifetime, they are difficult to resolve, and engineers favor reactive treatments. To integrate findings, I mapped T&S engineering patterns onto a gen- eral model of SMPs. My findings give T&S engineers a systematic understanding of their T&S risk treatment options. I conclude with future directions to study and improve T&S Engineering, spanning software design, decision-making, and validation. </p>

How to communicate efficiently on social media : A case study about emotional communication strategies by the climate activist group Rebellmammorna / Hur man kommunicerar effektivt på sociala medier : En fallstudie om emotionella kommunikationsstrategier av klimataktivistgruppen Rebellmammorna

This case study aims to explore how emotional communication on social media can influence the target group by examining the communicative strategies, including visuals and narratives, used by the climate activist group Rebellmammorna. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with members of Rebellmammorna to investigate how they describe their communicative strategies, how they use emotional communication to establish a relationship with their target group, and how users experience the communication on their social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and their webpage). Data were also collected through digital ethnography of their social media channels. The data was then analysed through a thematic analysis. The results indicate that Rebellmammorna's own perspective in how they describe their communication strategies agrees with the users' experiences of Rebellmammorna's Instagram and Facebook channels, which suggests that they are successful in their communication. / Denna fallstudie syftar till att undersöka hur emotionell kommunikation på sociala medier kan på verka målgruppen genom att undersöka de kommunikationsstrategier, inklusive visuella och narrativa element, som används av klimataktivistgruppen Rebellmammorna. AJ tta semi-strukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med medlemmar i Rebellmammorna för att undersöka hur de beskriver sina kommunikationsstrategier, hur de använder emotionell kommunikation för att etablera en relation med sin målgrupp, och hur användarna upplever kommunikationen på deras sociala medieplattformar (Facebook, Instagram och deras webbplats).
