Kylmäaho, Mirka January 2021 (has links)
This work is for the completion of a bachelor's degree in Information design with a focus on Spatial Design. The project has been carried out in collaboration with OpenArt, a biennial art exhibit that occurs across Örebro city center every other year. In this thesis I’ve explored how design in the exhibition space can contribute to visitors wayfinding processes, attract passers-by and how design can contribute to visitor flow. In previous years, the biennial has not worked with clear in-space wayfinding systems for spontaneous orientation. Visitors have experienced difficulties in finding the art works and navigating in the exhibition. A visit is further complicated by long distances and greatly affected by the city's readability. In this work, readability by city elements has been explored in order to identify needs and a specific place to work with. To increase flow, theories about wayfinding and storytelling have been explored to develop a system that connects the exhibition through the spaces between the art works. The system includes node-strengthening track markings with quotes from previous visitors. The system can be used for orientation in the environment through the wayfinding strategy track following. The results have been produced through documentary analyzes, questionnaires and various analyzes of maps, movement patterns and space. Through workshops and close collaboration with OpenArt, the story someone met the city and art has been identified, which is proposed to be the theme of the exhibition space.

Living Up to the Ideal of Respectability : Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Implications for Unmarried Migrant Workers, Single Mothers, and Women in Prostitution in Sri Lanka

Jordal, Malin January 2014 (has links)
This thesis aims to gain a deeper understanding of relationships and sexuality of women at risk of social exclusion in Sri Lanka and the risk of violations of their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) that they might face. Individual qualitative interviews with migrant women workers (n=18) and men (n=18) in the Free Trade Zone (FTZ), women facing single motherhood (n=28) and women formerly involved in prostitution (n=15) were conducted. Conceptual approaches included gender, social navigation and SRHR. The interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis, qualitative content analysis and discourse analysis. Findings revealed that the migrant women workers negotiated norms of respectability in a society that highly stigmatizes FTZ women workers, while the men identified conflicting constructions of masculinity existing in the FTZ. The women facing single motherhood navigated oppressive and stigmatizing social forces, and the women in prostitution constructed themselves as respectable in opposition to their societal disvalue and marginalization. In order to retain an image of sexual innocence, unmarried women are likely to refrain from demanding or demonstrating SRHR knowledge and accessing services. Furthermore, gender power imbalances leave the women vulnerable to sexual persuasion, coercion and violence. Once pregnant, social, legal, and knowledge barriers hinder or delay them in accessing abortion services. Unmarried pregnant women are thus left with the alternatives of adoption, infanticide, and suicide or become stigmatized single mothers with risks of health and social exclusion for mother and child. Extreme marginalization and limited power make women in prostitution vulnerable to unsafe sex, rape and violence. In conclusion, these women are likely to face numerous and serious SRHR hazards. The complexity of gendered social circumstances and the SRHR implications demonstrated in this thesis, add to the SRHR knowledge in Sri Lanka, and should inform politicians and policy makers about the need to improve the situation of all women in Sri Lanka.

Tagging et folksonomies : pragmatique de l'orientation sur le Web / Tagging and Folksonomies : pragmatics of orientation on the Web

Crépel, Maxime 30 November 2011 (has links)
This research proposes an anlysis of tagging systems uses on the Web. Tagging is not a simple personnal tool of web ressources categorization but classifications emerging from free tags indexation, named folksonomies, allow Internet users to create physical and interpretative supports which produce new forms of social navigation. Those tagging networks give the opportunity to Internet users to navigate and to act in the complex and abundant Web universe, but they are also coordination supports with other Internet users. Tags appear as conventionnal supports which allow coordination of actions in variable-geometry collectives. In those more or less identified and large collectives, members share common vocabulary and interests. Based on a socio-technical approach, we study coupling between conception and uses of tagging systems. We explain that tagging proposes an under construction and alternative way to architecture and accessibility politics of the Web ressources

Cultura e instituições de saúde: percepções de funcionários de serviços de atenção básica acerca de alguns traços culturais da sociedade brasileira presentes em sua rotina de trabalho / Culture and health institutions: staff perceptions of primary care services on some cultural traits of Brazilian society present in your work routine

Pinto, Alessandra Maria Silva January 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-04T12:36:30Z (GMT). / The analysis of institutions is a subject widely researched in the health-care area. The organizational dynamics of its services is studied with a view to understand its implications for the care process. In this context, the culture of organizations is understood as a symbolic possibility contained in a greater dimension called “national culture”. Though it does not determine the values produced in the ambit of the organization, it shall “establish” the limits of their variations. This premise justifies the incorporation of a socio-anthropological approach into the studies of organizational culture. In this perspective, this study had the purpose of discovering the perceptions of workers in two basic health-care services belonging to the municipality of Niterói/RJ and of the meaning of friendship and kinship relations, as well as the strategies of social navigation usually employed — founded on the theoretical perspective developed by Roberto DaMatta. According to this author, Brazil is a relational society resulting from the coexistence of values associated with the definitions of “individual” and “person”. Both correspond to the ideological constructions that guide some opposed but complementary ways of being, living and thinking. This conflicting relation demands the mobilization of social navigation strategies and among them the “jeitinho brasileiro” in order to cross over the values of the individual and the person. Using the qualitative approach 15 interviews were carried out divided between workers from a traditional health-care unit and from a service belonging to Programa Médico de Família de Niterói (PMFN). In subsidiary fashion, field observations made possible the contextualization of that social reality, complementing information arising from the talks. The selection of the workers was made through indications from each informant, enabling a sketch of social networks apparently constituted within both services. The results evinced the relational character associated with the Brazilian stereotype. The manifestation of this cultural trait in different contexts materializes conflicts resulting from the coexistence of values based on the “individual” and the “person”. Among them, we can highlight the distortions observed between discourse and practice, as well as the mobilization of social navigation strategies — among them the “jeitinho brasileiro” — with a view to establishing a mediation between impersonal law and person. It is also necessary to emphasize that PMFN services’ organizational form apparently imposes on its workers the concrete challenge of equating the egalitarian principle that founds SUS, with values set on which are based personal relations in Brazilian society.

Scalable Multimedia Learning: From local eLectures to global Opencast

Ketterl, Markus 27 March 2014 (has links)
Universities want to go where the learners are to share their rich scientific and intellectual knowledge beyond the walls of the academy and to expand the boundaries of the classroom. This desire has become a critical need, as the worldwide economy adjusts to globalization and the need for advanced education and training becomes ever more critical. Unfortunately, the work of creating, processing, distributing and using quality multimedia learning content is expensive and technically challenging. The work combines research results, lessons learned and usage findings in the presentation of a fully open source based scalable lecture capture solution, that is useful in the heterogenous computing landscape of today’s universities and learning institutes. Especially implemented user facing applications and components are being addressed, which enable lecturers, faculty and students to record, analyze and subsequently re-use the recorded multimedia learning material in multiple and attractive ways across devices and distribution platforms.
