In the last five years, indeterminate and semideterminate soybean plants, especially early maturity varieties in early sowing dates, were adopted in different latitudes, aiming to cultivate a second crop. When grown on different densities, soybean plants have compensation mechanisms on stem height, number of branches and pods per plant. The objectives of this study were: i) evaluate the effect of sowing date and plant density on soybean morphoagronomic traits of soybean cultivars with different stem termination; ii) correlate grain yield with morphoagronomic traits in each type of growth and sowing date, and yield components with each other in each type of growth and density; iii) perform discrimination among types of growth in soybean cultivars, identifying sowing conditions that cause changes in the response of morphological traits with ambiguity in the phenotypic expression of growth types. Three experiments were: early October (10.02.13), mid November (11.18.13) and early January (08.01.14) in the experimental area of Embrapa Arroz e Feijão in Santo Antonio de Goiás, Brazil (16°29’S, 49°17’W), at 2013/2014 season. Trials were performed in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments included two factors, stem termination and plant population density. Four cultivars were used for each stem termination; determined, semideterminate and indeterminate. The plant densities corresponded to 50%, 100% and 150% of commercial recommendation to each variety. The traits assessed were number of days to flowering, number of days to maturity, plant height at flowering, height of first pod, plant height at maturity, growth percentage after flowering, number of nodes on main stem, number of branches on main stem, number of pods per node, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, number of grains per plant, one hundred grain weight and yield. For most assessed traits, soybean plants of each type of growth respond differently to changes on sowing date and plant density. Only in November sowing, the determinate type of growth showed lower yield comparing to the others types. The increase in plant density causes higher plants on flowering and maturity, less number of nodes and branches in the main stem, and lower average on yield components. Regardless of the type of growth, in the first sowing date yield showed greater correlation, positive, with number of seeds per pod; however, in other sowing dates this correlation occurred with one hundred grain weight. Plant density has more influence on the associations among yield components in the determinate and indeterminate growth types, than in the semideterminate type. The greatest variation in morphoagronomic traits was observed between determinate stem termination and the other types of growth. Most change on classification of type of growth (ambiguity) occurs in late sowing and high plant density. The percentages of growth after flowering and main stem node and branches numbers are the most important traits on type of growth discrimination.

Análise de eficiência em rotas de transporte de soja nos principais corredores brasileiros e norte-americanos utilizando Análise Envoltória de Dados (DEA) / Analysis of the efficiency of soybean transportation routes in the main Brazilian and American corridors using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA)

Isotilia Costa Melo 02 August 2017 (has links)
This research is focused on the logistics infrastructure issue used for bulk transportation, specifically soybeans, from the main producing municipalities of the world biggest producers, Brazil and USA, to the key exporting ports. This dissertation aims to analyze the efficiency of routes and corridors, taking into account the three pillars of sustainability (economic, social and environmental). The method starts with a literature review of corridor benchmarking, efficiency measurement through data envelopment analysis and contextualization of transportation scenarios in both countries. It was identified 72 routes in Brazil and 30 in the US, considering several combinations of transportation mode (road, inland waterway and rail). Data were analyzed through correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), and Wilcoxon Test. Subsequently, variables were inserted in Slack-Based Measure (SBM) DEA model. This model simultaneously minimizes inputs and maximizes outputs. It was applied the quantitative tiebreaking method of the compound index. The results showed that the American routes among the most efficient ones. In addition, the combinations of short trips of trucks and long trips of barges or trains were also among the most efficient. In other words, the results were coherent with literature and expectation of specialists. In summary, it is clear that the use of DEA can noticeably improve the strength of the analysis of national domestic routes and corridors used in the productive chain of bulk soybeans.

Herança da produção de grãos e dos componentes de produção em soja / Inheritance of grain production and yield components in soybean

Larissa Pereira de Castro 20 January 2009 (has links)
The knowledge of inheritance of traits is very important for breeding purposes. However, the inheritance is highly influenced by the environment and the genotypic composition of the population and thus, the accumulative information of estimates is very important for a better knowledge of the inheritance of quantitative traits. Most of the studies of inheritance of quantitative traits in soybeans are based on populations which nowadays have no more interest in soybean breeding programs. The objective of this study was to investigate the inheritance of grain yield (PG) and yield components in soybeans, i.e., number of pods per plant (VP), number of seeds per plant (SP), and number of seeds per pod (SV), in a population derived from two genetically divergent soybean cultivars: Embrapa 60 and MG/BR 46. The parents, F1, F2 and two backcross generations were evaluated in the 2007/8 growing season for the four traits, at the Department of Genetics (ESALQ), in Piracicaba, SP. Experimental data were submitted to genetic analyses according to the additive-dominant model proposed by Mather and Jinks. Heterosis estimates were positive for three out of four traits (PG, VP, SP), with magnitudes around 50%, based on the parent means, while for SV heterosis was null. The heritability estimates on a plant basis were medium for yield components (between 33% and 42%) and low for PG (16%). Additive variance estimates were always higher than the dominance estimates, and the degree of dominance (gmd) for all the traits were around 1.0 (0.96 to 1.21), indicating the occurrence of complete dominance for the traits assessed.

Relations spatiales entre les ressources biophysiques et les dynamiques d’occupation du sol du front pionnier en Amazonie orientale / Spatial relationships between biophysical resources and pioneer front dynamics in the Eastern Amazon

Osis, Reinis 18 November 2019 (has links)
The Amazon has been subject to a rapid change in land use due to deforestation for several decades and more recently to the expansion of annual crops like soybeans. One of the major challenges is to understand better the spatial dynamics of these processes and its determinants. With the reduction of deforestation and the consolidation of pioneer fronts, natural resources and constraints seem to be gaining in importance in farmers' choices. The objective of this research was to assess the role of biophysical factors in land use dynamics since 2000 and to anticipate possible futures in a consolidated Amazonian pioneer frontier, the municipality of Paragominas. We implemented a spatially explicit model to identify the spatial distribution of change processes in relation to different factors. Interviews with farmers explain the underlying strategy. The results show different strategies for the use of biophysical resources according to the types of production, the size of the farms, the distance to roads and villages and the spatial distribution of biophysical resources in the farm. The strategies evolve over time, in relation to production and technological advances, and are organized in space. A better understanding of the importance of biophysical resources on the evolution of pioneer fronts through this type of method could provide support for land-use policies.

Grégoire-Zawilski, Myriam 03 1900 (has links)
This dissertation proposes an alternative argument for explaining the Brazilian soybean boom. Drawing on the theory of organization and on institutional political economy, this research compares the organization of the value chain in the states of Mato Grosso and Paraná. Firstly, this research attempts to detail the internal workings of each mode of organization in order to conceptualize the latter as integral and coherent systems. As a result, Mato Grosso’s coordination mode (supply-chain integration) may be described as a hybrid organizational mode bearing resemblances with hierarchical organization whereas Paraná’s hybrid mode (agro industrial cooperative) tilts towards market organization. We identify the nature of risks as the primary determinant of the degree of governance centralization within each model. As a result, it is argued that each model is coherent and efficient because it serves the purpose of mitigating risks in a way that is responsive and adapted to local production imperatives. Such consideration is of upmost importance given that risk mitigation may encourage transactions and hence, induce economic growth. Secondly, such a research endeavour would be incomplete without a detailed analysis of the political and historical factors that influenced the development trajectory of each region. In order to take those variables into account, the case studies trace the history of the agrarian policies and institutions that shaped the economic landscape of each region starting from the 1960s, this is, when the production of soybeans started gaining importance in Brazil. Analyzing institutional change, it is argued, is critical for understanding the rules of the game that underpin the actual modes of coordination in each region.

Substituição do milho ou feno pela casca de soja na alimentação de pequenos ruminantes / Replacement of corn and hay by soybean hulls in diets for small ruminants

Gentil, Renato Shinkai 01 October 2010 (has links)
The objectives of this experiment were to determine the effects of replacing corn and coastcross hay by soybean hulls (SH) on performance and ingestive behavior in lactating goats and nutrient apparent digestibility and ruminal measures in ram lambs. Experiment 1: Eight goats were housed in a tie stall and used in a two 4 x4 Latin square design conducted concurrently. Each experimental period consisted of 16 d; the first 12 d were used to adapt the goats to the treatments and the remaining 4 d were used for data collection. Animals were fed a 40:60 (concentrate:roughage ratio). Soybean hulls replaced corn by 0%, 20%, 40% or 60% on a dry matter (DM) basis. Dry matter ground intake (DMI), milk yield and ingestive behavior were not affected (P>0.05) by replacing corn by soybean hulls. However, milk fat concentration increased (P<0.05) with soybean hulls inclusion. Experiment 2: Four ram lambs were placed individually in metabolism crates and assigned to a 4 x 4 Latin square design. The experimental period consisted of 14 d; the first 10 d were used to adapt the lambs to the treatments and the remaining 4 d were used for data collection. The treatments and diets were the same as in Experiment 1. Dry matter intake and digestibility were not affected (P>0.05) by replacing ground corn by soybean hulls. Nevertheless, propionate concentration decreased (P<0.05) while neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intake and digestibility, ruminal pH and acetate concentration increased (P<0.05) with soybean hulls inclusion. Experiment 3: Thirty-six goats were assigned to a complete randomized block design and housed in a tie stall for a period of 8 weeks. Goats were fed a 50:50 (concentrate:roughage ratio) with similar amount of NDF. Soybean hulls replaced hay by 0%, 33%, 67% or 100% on a DM basis. Dry matter and NDF intake showed a quadratic response (P>0.05). Milk yield and body weight change didnt differ (P<0.05), however milk fat concentration increased (P>0.05) while time spent with rumination and chewing decreased (P>0.05), when SH were added to the diet. Experiment 4: Sixteen ram lambs were housed individually in metabolism crates and assigned to a complete randomized block design. The experimental period consisted of 14 d; the first 10 d were used to adapt the lambs to the treatments and the remaining 4 d were used for data collection. The treatments and diets were the same used in Experiment 4. DMI and NDF intake showed a quadratic effect (P<0.05) when SH were added to the diet. However, DM and NDF digestibility increased (P<0.05) while short-chain fatty acids, acetate and propionate concentration, didnt change (P>0.05) and ruminal pH decreased (P<0.05). SH can partially replace corn or coastcross hay with no detrimental effects on performance or nutrient metabolism in small ruminants.

Mendes Neto, Edilberto Batista 27 February 2015 (has links)
The subsector of Brazilian agribusiness has a highlight and growth scenario in GDP composition. Culture and soybean trade in grains have shown performance in the Brazilian economy, representing the trade 27 % of exports in the country. Farming soybeans, in the perception of society, government and the owners, is known to have a high degree of Wealth, understood by the fact that their activity attract jobs, income sources and improved quality of services. In addition, we identified, in theory, instruments that allow measuring the value of this wealth and its distribution. The objective of this work is to understand the process of evolution and wealth distribution seen in crop soybean in Brazil, understood from 1998 to 2014. To meet these goals, data adequacy was held on Wealth, identifying eleven variables, the time horizon of 17 years. The study was delimited to five producing cities represented in the soybean cultivation in the South and Midwest. The analysis presents descriptive and quantitative, has been carried out in two steps: the creation of the comparative examination of the evolution of elements of Wealth by Analysis of Variance and subsequently the bivariate correlation, evaluating the membership level of the variable results with other data. The results showed that the Wealth Generated, costs Seeds and Pesticides, Equity Compensation and the results have similar characteristics in major producing regions when evaluated the average values. The relevance of this study is the theoretical contribution highlighting elements that make up the Value Added cultivation of soybeans.

In recent decades the Brazilian agribusiness has increasing its importance for the national economy showing significant increases in productivity. These gains in productivity were due to greater diffusion of the use of technology by farmers, including an intensification of the inputs used, among which stand out the fertilizer. Between 1991 and 2012, sales of fertilizers in Brazil grew 5.9%, reaching 29.5 million tons in 2012. Despite the huge growth in sales little has been studied about the factors that affect the sales of fertilizers in Brazil. The aim of this study was to analyze the main factors that affected sales of fertilizers for soybeans in Brazil in the period 1988 to 2012. To achieve this goal a function of demand was estimated considering the properties of integration and co - integration of time series. The proposed model specified the sales of fertilizers for soybeans from the following exogenous variables: soybean acreage, fertilizer prices for soybeans, soybean yield, soybean prices. The variable price of soybeans showed high multicollinearity with the soybean acreage, and therefore was not included in the final model. The results from the final model showed that acreage is the factor that has the most influence on the sales of fertilizers for soybeans, with a positive 1% shock on growth of planted area effect 1.8% growth on sales fertilizer for soybeans. The price of fertilizer for soybeans resulted in a negative coefficient as expected. Soybean yield was used as a proxy for the capitalization of the agricultural producer and acreage she presented positive sign, although of lesser magnitude compared to acreage, but the coefficient was not significant.
