The topic of the following thesis is an analysis of the changing perception of Šumava as a space in selected Czech and German texts that belong to the literature of the Šumava district. The basis of the thesis is the theory of spatial turn which was developed during the 1980s and is particularly associated with Michel Foucault's concept of "different spaces". Within the framework of this theory, the thesis deals with the arrangement of spaces that are typical of the Šumava region: the space of forest, mountains and borders. Šumava as a literary space is then characterised as a background scenery, a space influencing the plot and a personified space. In the last section of the thesis, two tendencies of landscape representation are highlighted: the fantastic and the realistic. Part of the thesis is also devoted to a literary overview of Czech and German literature from the Šumava district written in the period from the 19th century to the present day.

This essay discusses Herta Müller’s 2009 novella Der Mensch ist einGroßer Fasan auf der Welt from a spatial perspective. Drawing from ideas from theSpatial Turn in the 1980s, the main characters of the novella are analysed and it isfound that while the women of the story are able to adapt to the changing of space,the male protagonist is struggling being stuck in what can be seen as a state ofconstant crisis, which renders him practically useless in the society he lives in.Three main theories are used for the analysis; Michel Foucault’s concept ofheterotopias, Henri Lefebvre’s definitions of societal space and Edward Soja’sideas of Thirdspace. Further, Müller’s own ideas of Utopia are brought in forreflection.

In der vorliegenden Masterarbeit wird auf Basis dieser Definition eine Anwendung auf den Bereich der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften, im Sinne einer Fokussierung auf literarische Erinnerungsorte, vollzogen, die als Grundlage des kulturellen Gedächtnisses angesehen werden und demzufolge zur Identitätsstiftung einer Region beitragen. Hierbei steht die Vernetzung ausgewählter literarischer Erinnerungsorte, bestehend aus Literaturmuseen und literarischen Gedenkstätten der Region Sachsen, im Vordergrund. Das Ziel dieser Masterarbeit ist einerseits die literaturwissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit Schriftstellern, die in Sachsen gelebt und/ oder gewirkt haben und andererseits die Darstellung des kulturellen Einflusses der bestehenden literarischen Gedenkstätten und Literaturmuseen in der ‚Region’ Sachsen. Im Rahmen dieser Masterarbeit wurde eine Bestandsaufnahme von 231 Schriftstellern angefertigt, die im heutigen Gebiet des Freistaates Sachsen gelebt und/ oder gewirkt haben, aber auch alle Museen, Denkmäler, Grabmäler, Gedenktafeln und Büsten, die an den jeweiligen Schriftsteller erinnern. Hieraus wurden für die vorliegende Masterarbeit 15 Schriftsteller nach spezifischen Kriterien ausgewählt und diese, ebenso wie die zugehörigen Literaturmuseen und literarischen Gedenkstätten, vorgestellt.

By examining five types of astronomical and celestial phenomena—comets, constellations, the zodiac, planets, and the music of the spheres—this thesis posits not only that early modern dramatists were influenced by established and emerging natural philosophy as habits of thought that manifested in their writing, but also that astronomical phenomena operate within the drama, performance, and in the theatre as elements for creating and developing a distinctly spatial dramaturgy. Using theories from the spatial turn, this thesis maps the positions, edges, disturbances, and motions of celestial properties within the imaginary and physical space of early modern drama and theatre. It argues that the case study plays examined within this thesis demonstrate a period-wide engagement, rather than an authorial-, company-, theatre-, or even genre-specific practice. Dramatists developed techniques using astronomical phenomena as dramatic methods that occasionally underscored early modern astronomical thought. However, in many cases constructed plots, characters, visual and sound effects, and movements transgressed astronomical expectations. Dramatists broke down constellations, inserted new stars in the heavens, created zodiacal females, launched pyrotechnical comets, moved planets unexpectedly across the stage, and played (and refrained from playing) celestial "music" for the audience. Recognising composite and often contradictory astronomical constructions within the drama, this thesis moves the critical discussion away from an intellectual history of natural philosophy and gravitates toward an active astronomical dramaturgy.

Les villes projetées dans la littérature sont des espaces idéaux pour comprendre les tensions de notre temps. En reflétant les contradictions sociales produites par l'économie, l'accès inégal au pouvoir, la coexistence entre différents groupes culturels, etc., elles nous permettent de réfléchir aux caractéristiques complexes d'un monde en mutation permanente. L’objectif principal de cette thèse est d’analyser les villes littéraires de Mario Levrero comme des dispositifs narratifs qui permettent de constater la fin de certains projets politiques, sociaux et culturels du XXe siècle face à l’émergence d’un modèle qui tend vers la mondialisation. Ce travail est basé sur une hypothèse théorique qui peut être résumée comme suit : plus la complexité de notre système politique et économique est grande, plus il est difficile d'imaginer et de représenter la réalité dont nous faisons partie. Cela est particulièrement évident dans les représentations urbaines de Levrero, qui symbolisent le sentiment de désorientation caractéristique du sujet postmoderne avant d’échouer à cartographier tout aspect de la réalité contemporaine. Cela nous permet d'analyser la portée politique de ces représentations, puisqu'elles supposent à la fois un diagnostic sans espoir du présent et une projection ratée de l’avenir. Les villes imaginaires de Levrero fonctionnent comme des scénarios de l'effondrement d'un monde connu et de l'émergence d'un monde nouveau pour lequel les personnages ne disposent d'aucun outil d'interprétation. / Projected cities in literature have been proven to be ideal spaces to understand the tensions of our time. By representing the social contradictions produced by the economy, the unequal access to power or the coexistence between different cultural groups, they allow us to reflect on the complex characteristics of a world in permanent transformation. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the literary cities of Mario Levrero as narrative devices with which to observe the coming to an end of certain political, social and cultural projects of the twentieth century in the face the emergence of a model that tends towards the dissolution of the regional in the global. This work is based on a theoretical assumption that can be summarized as follows: the greater the complexity of our political and economic system, the greater the difficulty in imagining and representing the reality we are a part of. This is particularly clear in the urban representations of Levrero, which symbolize the sense of disorientation that distinguishes the postmodern subject before the failure of every attempt to map any aspect of contemporary reality. This allows us to analyze the political significance of these representations: they entail, on the one hand, a diagnosis of hopelessness for the present and, on the other, an outlook of failure for the future. The cities of Levrero function as backgrounds for the collapse of a known world and the emergence of a brand new one with characters that lack any tools for its interpretation.

Die feministische Geographie verfolgt drei miteinander verbundene Anliegen: Als geographische Geschlechterforschung untersucht sie den Zusammenhang von gesellschaftlicher Räumlichkeit und Geschlechterverhältnissen. Im Rahmen wissenschaftstheoretischer Debatten werden Möglichkeiten der Integration feministischer und geographischer Theoriebildung gesucht. Disziplinpolitisch fokussiert sie bestehende Ungleichheitsverhältnisse und geschlechtsspezifische Arbeitsteilungen in der Hochschulgeographie.
