Individuación, individuo y relación en el pensamiento de Simondon / Individuation, individu et relation dans la pensée de Simondon / Individuation, individual and relation in Simondon’s thinking

Penas López, Miguel 28 November 2014 (has links)
This research is focused on the thought of the French philosopher Gilbert Simondon. We explore the possibility opened by Simondon to articulate an ontogenetic monism with an ontological pluralism, that is, the idea that it is possible to appreciate a continuity between the different dimensions of the real -physical, biological, psycho-collective-without denying their intrinsic plurality. In the first part, we study the relation between inert matter and living beings through the encounter between Simondon’s philosophy of individuation and Ilya Prigogine’s non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Simondon’s conception is shown as a suitable way to overcome the ontological division between matter and life. However, his focus on crystallization as the paradigmatic example of physical individuation reveal certain limitations to carry out this project which can be overcome through the concept of self-organization of matter that we find in non-equilibrium thermodynamics. In the second part, we offer an interpretation of the main points of Simondon’s metaphysics. We follow Deleuze's reading in which Simondon's philosophy appears as a transformation of Kant's concept of the transcendental. Then, we defend an interpretation according to which Simondon’s thought is a form of process-relational realism. Finally, we confront Simondonian philosophy with the speculative turn of contemporary philosophy, especially with Quentin Meillassoux’s speculative materialism and Graham Harman’s object-oriented philosophy.

Dot-com bubble - a factor in economic success of the USA in the 1990s?

Zajíc, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the impacts of information and communication technology investment surge on USA economic growth in the 1990s. Besides others, rapid development of these technologies also led to the creation of a stock market bubble, which affected the expansion phase of the economic cycle. Its burst in 2000-2001 resulted in economic slow-down and end of the longest recorded economic expansion in the history of the United States. Main part of the thesis discusses the benefits of information technology for economy and further evaluates the role of the speculative bubble in the development of consumption and investment expenditures. The thesis results suggest that the increase in capital intensity and sharp stock market price inflation significantly accelerated the dynamics of the economic growth in the second half of the described cycle.

Investice do drahých kovů / Investment in precious metals

Krišlo, Michal January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the current situation on the precious metals market, above all of gold and silver, as metals with an interesting past and future. The result should be a current view of both markets and their unique differences. The first part is devoted to the characteristics of gold and silver, their utilisation and outlook of new applications as a consequence of developing industrial branches in the new millennium. The second part is a more detailed view of the market and an analysis of the aspect of supply and demand of both theese metals and differences that influence their price. The third part brings together the main factors shaping this market and introduces some indicators eligible to watch these markets. The conclusion presents an evaluation of the discussed conclusions in a broader perspective.

Expanding the Definition of Liminality: Speculative Fiction as an Exploration of New Boundaries

Lacy, Dianna C 20 December 2019 (has links)
Speculative fiction allows an expanded view of literature and so allows scholars to explore new boundaries in the way words and ideas work. In the titular character of The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, the reader sees an expansion of self through liminality while A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick explores its collapse. In order to portray each of these the character examined must move though one seems to move upward and the other downward. This idea of movement is only part of what expands the idea of liminality past the traditional idea of a doorway to create a hallway that the character might traverse on the way from place to place. This is not a redefinition of the term but a revision, a change in the way that we look at the concept as we accept and explore newer genres.

Collective weaving of territories: Exploring diasporic identities with Latin American migrants

Castillo Muñoz, Yénika January 2020 (has links)
This interaction design thesis contributes to the discussion in Decolonial design, and in particular it explores diasporic identities of Latin American migrants. Between adaptation and assimilation, several questions arise: About traces, values, practices and the materialities of these aspects, as well as the challenges for Interaction design and its methods to address them. The design outcome is the concept of a collective identity territory expressed in an interactive map, that is continuously woven digitally through an app interface. The map is populated with memories, songs, recipes and dreams that materialise the diasporic situatedness. I consider it a critical fabulation on what maps can be. The contribution of the outcome appeals to the notion of the Pluriverse to decolonise the notions of hybridity, identity and territory. The research departs from the notions of Chicano and transnational feminism, postcolonial and decolonial theories, epistemologies of the South and critical design. In the center of the design process is the collective speculation, using codesign methods to encourage shared reflections through visual and verbal resources. A new method explores the narrative qualities of lines to weave and wander the interactive map.

Internet of Beings : Speculating about more-than-human interactions in the urban environment

Iezzi, Valeria January 2021 (has links)
Designing for societal engagement and benefit, aiming for the inclusion of humans, has been largely implemented within interaction design research. However, recent studies on entanglements and more-than-human worlds in interaction design, participatory and speculative design, in combination with Science & Technology Studies (STS) and ANT (Actor-network theories), revealed new opportunities for designers for the development of methods and practices, particularly about designing new forms of engagement with and through design artefacts for the benefit of the natural environment in the city. Through an RtD process, this thesis explores current relations between humans and nonhumans by establishing a more-than-human design space that embraces participatory and speculative methods. The aim is to implement more-than-human theories into the design practice to contribute to Posthuman Interaction design and Non-anthropocentric design. Therefore, this thesis presents Internet of Beings, a series of speculative design artefacts that aim to rebalance power structures and enable collaborative more-than-human interactions in the city. Internet of Beings stems from the desire of speculating on possible more-than-human futures, where cohabitation and care are at the base for the future of urban species. While humans are asked to reattune, be curious, notice again and collaborate with nature, nonhuman species start to have agency in the decision-making to thrive in a collaborative, sustainable more-than-human city. Thus, Internet of Beings represents a way of "staying with the trouble" (Haraway, 2016) for a collaborative future (Tsing, 2015) in the urban environment.

ANYTHING IS A THING ENOUGH TO PARTY / ANYTHING IS A THING ENOUGH TO PARTY

Polcarová, Markéta Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis "Anything is thing enough to party" seeks to explore the knowledge base of Jane Bennett's vital materialism and analyzes the connections between advanced capitalism, mobility and unpredictable movement of goods and things from the perspective of object oriented ontology. The thesis also focuses on the new perspective of ready-made object and perspective of installation. In order to research the topic and implement the practical part of the project, this study took place in Mexico as a self-initiated art residency in order to explore flows of found objects under the gaze of a foreigner.

Transmission des chocs spéculatifs et effets asymétriques / Speculative shock transmission and asymmetric effecs

Lecumberry, Julien 08 September 2014 (has links)
Fall 2008, the bankruptcy of Lehman Brother led a part of world to a severe economic crisis. Also known as "Great Recession", this episode contributed to ravive apprehension about financial imbalances. In this context, we attempt to analyze the macroeconomic effects of the non-fundamental component of stock price. Overall, the thesis focuses on two questions. First, we investigate the macroeconomic effects of this component and pay a particular attention to asymmetry. Second, we examine whether share price misalignments contain leading information about gross domestic product (GDP). In order to deal with these issues, we first have to define the non-fundamental component of stock prices. Using recent econometric methodologies, we explicitly show that the speculative component has significant effects on real economy. Furthermore, the impact of a negative shock is larger that of a positive shock. Volatility of stock prices is found to be an explanation for this asymmetry. Our results also suggest that the speculative component is useful for predicting GDP.
