Stigmatizace osob s duševním onemocněním z pohledu pacientů s depresí a úzkostmi / Stigmatization of mentally ill from the depression and anxiety patients' point of view

Štěpánková, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
The thesis is a study of mentally ill patients with depression and anxiety and their view on stigmatization in contemporary czech society. The thesis introduces the problematice in the context of current political precautions and research including comparison with abroad studies. It points out the current state of psychiatric care in the Czech republic and destigmatizing activities which aim to change this state. Based on ten interviews with patients with diagnosed depression or anxiety, the thesis shows that the stigmatization in case of these patients is not seen in such nature, as defined by literature. The participants experience large scale of negative reactions, however many of them do not meet definitions of stigmatizing attitudes. Their experience with stigma is different in different parts of their life, partly based on whether the people close to them have a previous experience with mental illness or not. The fear of stigmatization is present more often than the stigmatization itself. The participants point out the low awareness of the public considering the stigmatization of mental illness, however they do not participate in destigmatizing activities in any way. Interesting finding was fear of establishing a family, presented by some of the female participants and very frequent use of...

Černá, Erika January 2020 (has links)
(in English): The diploma thesis deals with the topic of destigmatization efforts as a task of social workers in selected organizations. Its aim is to describe the destigmatization efforts of social workers, focusing on individual attributes of destigmatization efforts and mapping the possible opportunities and pitfalls that social workers most often encounter in the long-term effort to eliminate stigma in people with mental illness. In this work we will cooperate with selected organizations whose target group are people with mental illness. The theoretical part brings a comprehensive view of mental illness, a description of the system of care for people with mental illness, and presents the issue of destigmatization efforts in the Czech Republic, including a description of destigmatization elements and campaigns that support this effort. At the same time, this part of the thesis describes the area of stigmatization of people with mental illness, manifestations of stigmatizing behavior in the public and social workers or generally the role of social workers in working with this target group. The practical part of the diploma thesis will work with the results of qualitative research, which is focused on functioning or non-functioning destigmatization efforts of social workers in selected...

Patienter med multiresistenta bakterier : En litteraturbaserad studie om upplevelser av mötet med vården / Patients with multi-resistant bacteria : A literature-based study regarding experiences of the encounter with healthcare

von Brömsen, Caroline, Björkbacke , Maria January 2020 (has links)
Multi-resistant bacteria are a growing problem worldwide. In relation to the bacteria spreading, the proportion of patients with multi-resistant bacteria also increase. In nursing, the encounter is described as a central part and works to ensure that the patient can express their feelings. How the meeting takes place has a great impact on whether the patient experiences suffering or not. A professional approach and knowledge regarding patients experience of the encounter as well as communication, forms a basis for the nurse to be able to meet the patient's unique needs in the encounter. The aim of this study is to describe how patients with multi-resistant bacteria experience the encounter with healthcare. This is a literature study is based on analysis of qualitative studies. The ten articles that make up the work have been analysed using a fivestep model. This resulted in two main themes and five sub-themes, which describe the experience of the meeting. The results describe how the staff's hygiene routines, attitudes and knowledge affect how patients experience the encounter. It also highlights the impact of the isolation in which patients are cared for and the stigmatization that was experienced during the encounter. In summary, it showed that patients with multi-resistant bacteria are at risk of experiencing an encounter that is stigmatizing. Patients experienced feelings such as guilt and shame due to the healthcare staff´s routines and attitudes in the meeting.

The phenomenon of LGBT affirming Black Churches and their response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Black America

Lewis, Terrence Omar January 2012 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University / PLEASE NOTE: Boston University Libraries did not receive an Authorization To Manage form for this thesis or dissertation. It is therefore not openly accessible, though it may be available by request. If you are the author or principal advisor of this work and would like to request open access for it, please contact us at open-help@bu.edu. Thank you. / There is a psychosexual health crisis in the African American community, with disproportionate rates of HIV/AIDS infections and poorer medical treatment outcomes for Black men and women (Fullilove, 2006; CDC, 201 0). In contrast to the homophobic responses of most Black Churches, some Black Churches are offering an affirmative ministry for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) individuals. This dissertation examines how these ministries developed and what strategies they employ in response to the HIV/AIDS health crisis. Building on Stigmatization theory, Queer theory, and previous research on Black Churches, I construct a conceptual framework for interpreting this phenomenon. Using the Heuristic methodology, I explore the historical, theological, and practical dimensions of four LGBT -affirming African American ministries. During a period of four to six weeks with each church, I conducted two narrative mterviews with the pastors, 15 to 20 hours of observation of ministry activities, and a review of church documents regarding relationships with the LGBT community. Using narrative analysis and grounded theory, I analyzed the interviews, documents and observational field notes for evidence of the LGBT affirmative ministry. I constructed holistic profiles of each church and a composite profile of the four. All four pastors credited formal theological education and personal experiences with the LGBT community as sources of their theologies. Two of the pastors self-identified as members of the LGBT community; LGBT inclusion was the central focus of their ministries. The other two pastors integrated LGBT inclusion into a broad based social justice ministry that focused on multiple oppressions, including racism and sexism. All four pastors seek to avoid the psychological, spiritual, and physical harm that homophobic Black churches inflict on LGBT Black folk, and seek thereby to discourage behaviors that contribute to the proliferation of HIV/AIDS. Each pastor offered LGBT affirmative strategies for decreasing LGBT stigmatization and HIV infections in the Black community. / 2031-01-01

Spelmissbruk i socialtjänstlagen : En studie om socialarbetares syn på spelmissbruk och implementeringen av en ny lag / Gambling addiction in the social services act

Stoianov, Devor, Guta Pantazakos, Dimitris January 2020 (has links)
In January 2018 a new social law took effect in Sweden. The new law included gambling addiction as an area of responsibility for the Swedish social workers. Because the law is relatively new there is not a lot of studies about how the Swedish workers perceive gambling addiction. The aim of this study is therefore to understand how the social workers from different communes in Sweden perceive gambling addiction, and to find out if implementation of the law has succeeded and what the amendment has brought. The methods used in this study was qualitative e-mail interviews and a qualitative interview via Zoom. The results of this study showed that the social workers have a lack of knowledge concerning gambling addiction. Another result was that the communes had implemented the new law by offering treatments and financial support.

Det mångkulturella samhället : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om yttringar av rasism i vardagen för svenska medborgare / The multicultural society : a qualitative interview study about the importance of everyday racism for Swedish citizens

Lübeck, Maggie, Karlsson, Jennifer January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate, through a triangulation of qualitative and quantitative methods, whether Swedish citizens with two foreign-born parents feel that everyday racism is expressed in the society. Collected empirical data were conducted through an online questionnaire and eight interviews, in which all key informants were born in Sweden but originated from Lebanon, Syria, Spain and Kosovo. Previous research shows that the concept of immigrants tends to represent only a homogeneous cultural of non-indigenous ethnicities and that this unit is subordinate to the dominant Swedish identity. Being categorized as immigrants in Sweden can lead to stigmatization, racism, discrimination and exclusion in areas such as education, working life and income regardless of generation. It is therefore believed that cultural and social rankings have emerged between “Swedes” and “immigrants”, which means that the concept of immigrants has become a category that also subordinates individuals and collectively. Collected empirical data was analysed on the basis of Erving Goffman, Jan Inge Jönhill and Charles Horton Cooley theories and the results showed that informants carry experiences of racism that are a combination of structural knowledge and personal experiences. One can therefore describe the experiences as a cultural legacy of consciousness or a high knowledge of both previous social and current existing exclusions that have historically occurred or usually occur within a society today.

Public Opinion and Maintaining Political Power: The Case of AKP Government and Social Media in Turkey

Demirhan, Emirhan 05 1900 (has links)
This dissertation consists of three chapters, aiming to analyze, understand and discuss how Turkish public opinion fluctuates on social media based on governmental actions and how that fluctuation affects the society and politics in Turkey. Using textual data from social media, I combined natural language processing techniques with statistical methods, to study how Turkish public opinion is shaped by governmental actions in various scenarios. In the first chapter, I created a social network of Twitter users to detect the differences in the extent of political polarization between pro-government and opposition voters during the June 2019 Istanbul mayoral election. The second chapter focuses on the stigmatization of a social/religious group in Turkey by government-driven labeling and terrorism designation. Word embeddings are used to pinpoint the offensive language and the hate campaign against the group, considering the labels that are used to identify the group. Finally, the third chapter examines the rally-around-the-flag effect during highly inciting moments like cross-border military operations. A corpus of tweets for each of the two Turkish cross-border military operations is analyzed using topic modeling and sentiment analysis to get a grasp of the rally effect and how the governments can benefit in internal matters from the changes in public discourse because of this rally effect.

Andersson, Jonatan, Chen, Lizhao January 2021 (has links)
Nyckelord: psykisk sjukdom, sjuksköterskor, patientens perspektiv, stigmatisering, bemötande / ABSTRACT Background: Lack of treatment and lack of understanding towards people with mental illness is common, even in healthcare settings. The hospital environment should be a place where patients should receive help, but factors such as prejudice can affect treatment. Lack of understanding and treatment can contribute to the patient’s need for care not being taken seriously.  Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe how patients with mental illness perceived the treatment by nurses in healthcare settings.Method: The purpose has been answered with the help of a descriptive literature review. Included articles have been of qualitative approach and have undergone a quality analysis and obtained high or medium quality. Results: In the results, patients described both positive and negative perceptions of how the treatment of nurses in the healthcare setting is. Positive aspects were described, among other things, as being treated with compassion, respect and as an individual. Even the experience of being understood was of great importance. The negative aspects such as lack of understanding, continuity, mistrust and prejudice were described by patients. This was explained to affect the patient's self confidence and mental state, such as feelings of hopelessness, fear and helplessness. Conclusion: Patients’ described empathy, the ability to listen, compassion, continuity and respect as positive components in treatment by nurses’. Konsekvenser eller ett uppvaknande? : en kvantitativ studie på lång sikt av svenska aktiebolag med en fortlevnadsvarning

Lindell, Emma, Månsson, Louise January 2017 (has links)
The going concern warning and its consequences for auditors and companies have been studied from many different angles. However, the results are conflicting. A going concern warning is issued by an auditor when there is substantial doubt on the company’s ability to continue as a going concern. Studies have shown that most companies survive despite a going concern warning. There are also signs of short-term consequences for the companies. How the consequences unfold in the long run for companies that have received a going concern warning is not well studied. The purpose of this study is to investigate how companies are affected in the long run by the consequences that can arise due to a going concern warning. For this study, a quantitative method has been used. Legitimacy theory, Interest theory and Institutional theory, have the common factor that they all explain how organizations survive in the long run. The theories, together with scientific articles and other relevant literature, have been used to develop the hypotheses. Companies with a going concern warning have been compared with companies that have not received a going concern warning. Empirical data have been collected for 2010-2015 and by using multiple linear regressions the hypotheses of the study have been tested. The result of the study showed that a going concern warning did not adversely affect the company on a long-term basis. On the contrary, the study indicates that companies with a going concern warning improve compared to equivalent companies which did not receive a going concern warning.
