Strategic Analysis of Taiwan Magnesium Industry- an example of Catcher Technology Co., Ltd.

The study is to summarize the characteristic, present situation and future trend of magnesium industry. Through the analysis of industrial structure, we can understand the growth level of magnesium die casting market in Asia is better than other regions in the world. Especially the 3C industries in Taiwan and Japan, are the most fast-developing ones of magnesium. By means of the analysis of ¡§five forces¡¨ and SWOT of domestic magnesium industry, and comparison with Japanese industry and many references, we can find the KSF (Key Successful Factors) of Taiwan magnesium industry. In the case study of Catcher's company, we can find out how it successfully apply its core resources and retain its competitive niche by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of competitive factors, and understanding how to use hyper-competition operation model. The industrial circumstances change rapidly, it is importance to fully grasp favorable terms of corporate competition, and to develop advantageous strategies by integrating the prospects of domestic and foreign industries. For the construction of a strongly competitive leader company of magnesium industries, it is essential to own the critical techniques of magnesium and establish the good relationship with customers. From the study, we find that Catcher Co., Ltd. can forecast the customers¡¦ future needs and operate in coordination with them to develop the product strategies. Because it can provide the new products earlier than other rivals, and keep good relationship with suppliers, Catcher can manufacture the products at many different production places and satisfy the most needs of customers and occupy higher market share. Reviewing the case in the analysis of management strategies, we can verify the KSF that can fit in with Taiwan magnesium industry. In conclusion, the study suggests five significant items for the Taiwan magnesium industry: 1. Fix on product scope 2. Promotion of research team ability 3. Research of Promotion FTPZ with Key Successful Factors by KHB

Kaoshiung Port had natural advantage of geographical conditions plus adopting the strategy of developing container center in 1970 and also was developed and operated achievement very well in past 20 years for prevailing in containerization. In late 1990, Kaoshiung Port faced internal and external competitive stress because global planning and management affairs were getting in vogue and neighboring countries invested in harbor facilities competitively. By far three years nearly, Kaoshiung Port was in very competitive circumstance and had to adopt seriously some tactic to promote its competition. In 2001, Taiwan government brought up the policy of Free-Trade Port Zone (FTPZ) and intended establishing FTPZ in harbor or airport in order to solicit for propriertors¡¦ investment against the businesses such as exhibition, processing manufacturing and transshipment of storehouse. Due to many examples in growth with high-speed by FTPZ in overseas harbors, KHB respects on this policy very much and strives with all its strength to set up FTPZ in Kaoshiung Port. There are no any precedents of domestic FTPZ in Taiwan. In order to find out the effect of FTPZ to Kaoshiung Port and point for attention and improvement in driving this strategy, following status are found out by this research with collection and discussion on reference sub-data and SWOT analysis of Kaoshiung Port¡¦s competition plus statistical analysis of survey. 1. 71% of persons consider that KHB will promote its advantage in competition and increase container sales revenue to establish FTPZ, extremely 93% of persons think KHB will get much help if government opens direct transportation links with Mainland 2. Following importance of external and internal factors affect whether FTZP will carry out and develop its function: External: Opening up direct transportation links with Mainland, good investment environment, preferential land tax and other levies, efficient clearance, proprietors¡¦ investment will. Internal: advantage of geographical localities, tally with information system of users¡¦ demand, efficient stevedoring, organized system of operation decision-making power, reasonable port tariff, rental and flexible adjustment, respect of customers¡¦ suggestion and high quality service, sufficient container areas 3. In order to apply effectively with restricted resources, now KHB has priority to improve its serviced resources of internal is information system, organized system, selling action, and human resources. Eventually, in order that KHB establishes tactical target of FTPZ effectively, mainly there are some suggestions to two parts, government¡¦s policy-making department and KHB, by this research to pass the bill of FTPZ, open direct transportation links with Mainland, adjust organized system of KHB, improve service system with right remedial steps, reform the rental mode of container harbor, and cooperate with succeeded international harbors or strategic alliance.

Αποτελεσματική ηγεσία στις κατώτερες & μεσαίες βαθμίδες διοίκησης

Η έρευνα διεξήχθη την περίοδο Οκτωβρίου 2011 – Φεβρουαρίου 2012 σε ιδιωτικές επιχειρήσεις στην Ελλάδα. Χρησιμοποιεί ερωτηματολόγια και σε βάθος συνεντεύξεις για να αντλήσει την απαραίτητη πληροφορία. H πρώτη ενότητα της έρευνας αναφέρεται στην ταχεία και επιτυχημένη ανάπτυξη του ηγέτη, δηλαδή κατώτερων και μεσαίων στελεχών, των υφισταμένων του (προσωπική ανάπτυξη των υφισταμένων) και της ομάδας του κατά την διάρκεια του 2011. Η ταχεία ανάπτυξη του ηγέτη αποδυναμώνει τη δυνατότητα συνεργασίας του με μεγάλη γκάμα ανθρώπων και τη δυνατότητα εκτίμησης των ηγετικών προκλήσεων. Η ταχεία ανάπτυξη των υφισταμένων στηρίζεται στη δικτύωση της ομάδας τους με άλλες ομάδες εντός και εκτός της επιχείρησης. Ο υφιστάμενος στην περίπτωση αυτή, πρέπει να διαχειριστεί ένα εκτεταμένο δίκτυο με μεταβαλλόμενα συμφέροντα και συμμαχίες. Στην ταχεία ανάπτυξη, η καθιέρωση κανόνων για τη λειτουργία της ομάδας δεν ευνοεί την ανάπτυξη της εμπιστοσύνης και της αλληλεγγύης μεταξύ των μελών της. Αντίθετα, η επιτυχημένη ανάπτυξη του ηγέτη, των υφισταμένων του και της ομάδας του δεν εμφανίζει τα παραπάνω μειονεκτήματα. Φαίνεται ότι ο καθορισμός στόχων που εμπνέουν και καθοδηγούν είναι σημαντικός για την επιτυχημένη ανάπτυξη υφισταμένων και ομάδας. Συμπεραίνουμε ότι για την επιτυχημένη ανάπτυξή τους απαιτείται χαρισματική ηγεσία σε σύγκριση με την ταχεία ανάπτυξή τους όπου δεν χρειάζεται χαρισματική ηγεσία. Επιπλέον, η ανταλλακτική ηγεσία είναι εξίσου σημαντική τόσο για την επιτυχημένη όσο και για την ταχεία ανάπτυξη υφισταμένων και ομάδας. Η δυνατότητα εξέλιξης της ταχείας ανάπτυξης σε επιτυχημένη ανάπτυξη είναι δυνατή, εφόσον τα μειονεκτήματα από την ταχεία ανάπτυξη ελεγχθούν. Επιπλέον, εξετάζεται η σχέση της ταχείας και επιτυχημένης ανάπτυξης του ηγέτη, των υφισταμένων και της ομάδας του με την ικανοποίηση από την εργασία του ηγέτη και των υφισταμένων του. Είναι σημαντικό να τονιστεί εδώ ότι η ταχεία ανάπτυξη των υφισταμένων και της ομάδας δεν συμβάλλει στην ικανοποίηση του ηγέτη από την εργασία του. Η δεύτερη ενότητα της έρευνας αναφέρεται στη λήψη και στην υλοποίηση αποφάσεων από τα κατώτερα και μεσαία στελέχη κατά τη διάρκεια του 2011. Ο ηγέτης με την ανάπτυξή του φέρει αποκλειστικά το βάρος της λήψης των δευτερεουσών αποφάσεων οι οποίες προκύπτουν από τις στρατηγικές αποφάσεις. Η ανάπτυξη των υφισταμένων και η ανάπτυξη της ομάδας δεν έχουν καμία επίδραση στην λήψη των αποφάσεων από τον ηγέτη. Και τούτο γιατί με τις συχνές μετακινήσεις στελεχών ανάμεσα σε διαφορετικά έργα και οργανωτικές μονάδες, η έννοια της εμπιστοσύνης μεταξύ των μελών της ομάδας καταργείται. Αντίστοιχα, σε ό,τι αφορά την υλοποίηση των αποφάσεων, η ανάπτυξη των υφισταμένων κατά πρώτον και η ανάπτυξη του ηγέτη εν συνεχεία, φέρουν το βάρος της υλοποίησης των αποφάσεων. Και πάλι, η ανάπτυξη της ομάδας δεν παίζει κανένα ρόλο στην υλοποίηση των αποφάσεων. Επίσης μελετώνται οι ενέργειες του ηγέτη που οδηγούν στη λήψη επιτυχημένων αποφάσεων από τον ίδιο. Οι παραπάνω ενέργειες σηματοδοτούν ένα νέο, βελτιωμένο επίπεδο ανάπτυξης του ηγέτη. Όπως επίσης μελετώνται οι ενέργειες του ηγέτη που οδηγούν σε επιτυχημένη υλοποίηση των αποφάσεων. Οι παραπάνω ενέργειες σηματοδοτούν ένα νέο, βελτιωμένο επίπεδο ανάπτυξης των υφισταμένων ως μεμονωμένα άτομα. Τέλος, η ίδια η επιτυχημένη υλοποίηση των αποφάσεων συμβάλλει στην ικανοποίηση του ηγέτη από την εργασία του και στην ικανοποίηση των υφισταμένων του από την εργασία τους κατά τη διάρκεια της υλοποίησης των αποφάσεων. Συνολικά, τα παραπάνω συμπεράσματα ανοίγουν νέους δρόμους στην βιβλιογραφία των διαφορετικών ταχυτήτων ανάπτυξης ηγέτη, υφισταμένων και ομάδας όσο και στην από κοινού μελέτη της λήψης και της υλοποίησης αποφάσεων. / The research has taken place between October 2011 and February 2012, at private companies in Greece and it uses questionnaires and in depth interviews in order to extract the necessary information. The first part of the research refers to the successful vs. the fast development of the leader (supervisors and middle managers), of his/her followers (personal development of subordinates) and of his/her team (group development) during 2011. It was identified that the leader’s fast development weakens his/her ability to work with a wide variety of people and to appreciate the nature of the challenges of leadership. Also, the fast development of the followers is based on the network with other teams inside and outside the company. The follower in this case, has to manage a broad network of changing interests and alliances. The fast development of the team depends on the establishment of rules for its well - functioning. Unfortunately, the necessity to impose these rules is a low stage of team development. On the contrary, the successful development of the leader, of his/her followers and of his/her team does not have the above mentioned disantavantages. The definition of goals which provide guidance and inspiration is of importance for the successful development of the followers and their teams, whereas it is of no importance for their fast development. We thus conclude that the successful development of the followers and their teams demands for a transformational leadership in comparison to their fast development. The transactional leadership is of the same importance for the successful as well as the fast development of followers and teams. According to the conclusions of the research performed, the evolution from a fast development to a successful one is possible, as long as the disadvantages of the fast development are controlled. Furthermore, the research examines the relationship of the successful and fast development of the leader, of his/her followers and of his team with the job satisfaction of the leader and the job satisfaction of his/her followers. What is important here, is that the fast development of the followers and the team does not contribute to the job satisfaction of the leader. The second part of the research, refers to the decision making and decision implementation of supervisors and middle managers during the year 2011. The leader’s development participates solely in the leader’s making of secondary decisions originating from the strategic decisions of the enterprise. The subordinates development and the team development have no share in the leader’s decision making. This is because the subordinate transfer among different projects and departments thus, abolishing team trust. Accordingly, the implementation of secondary decisions is due to the subordinates’ development firstly, and the leader’s development secondly. Again, team development has no share in the decision implementation. In addition, the leader activities which lead to successful decisions are examined. These acivities refer to a new, improved stage of leader’s development. And the leader activities which lead to a successful decision implementation are examined. These activities refer to a new, improved stage of followers’ development. At last, it was found that the successful decision implementation contributes to the job satisfaction of the leader as well as the job satisfaction of his/her followers during decision implementation. Overall, the above findings offer important new directions to the literature of the different speeds of leader, follower and team development as well as to the joint study of decision making and decision implementation.

This master study is on the results of the successful pre-school age children’s upbringing in the family psychological and pedagogical expression’s analysis. There are detected the major elements and features of pupils expression, palliatives of their upbringing. The object of the research is the state of the successful pre-school age children’s upbringing in the family. The task of the research is to educe the psychological and pedagogical peculiarities of the successful pre-school age children’s upbringing in the family. The research involved 26 families, successfully breeding children of the pre-school age (3-7 years old); 20 educators, working in the children garden “Pasakaitė”; and 26 children attending it. From the 203 families were selected 26 ones, whose children are attending children garden. However, it emerged that upbringing children in those 26 families sometimes occurre untoward manifestations in the interrelations also. Generalizing the material of the research about the successful pre-school age children’s upbringing in the family, there were drawn such conclusions: the research confirmed a hypothesis, that successful pre-school age children’s upbringing in the family depends on the psychological and pedagogical expression of families actions. Tyrimo objektas - mokinių adaptacija pagrindinėje mokykloje bei sėkmingą mokymąsi sąlygojantys veiksniai. Darbo tikslas - ištirti mokinių adaptaciją pagrindinėje mokykloje bei nustatyti sėkmingą mokymąsi sąlygojančius veiksnius. Taikomi tyrimo metodai: literatūros analizė ir sintezė; interpretavimas; apibendrinimas; interviu; anketinė apklausa; statistiniai skaičiavimai. Tyrimo imtis. Study object – the determining factors of the students‘ adaptation and successful learning in the secondary school. Aim of the work - to analyse students‘ adaptation in the secondary school and to identify the causing factors of successful learning. Study methods applied: the analysis and synthesis of the literature; interpretation, generalisation; interview, questionary, statistical calculations.The sample of the survey. The work contains three basic parts: academic, methodological, analytical. Academic part introduces a concept of adaptation process, the problem of students‘ adaptation is analysed, the factors causing successful learning are presented, as well as the specifics of the school as an organization and peculiarity of management in the context of education management standarts. In the methodological part the program of the survey is introduced. Data of a qualitative and quantitative survey is analysed and interpretated.

The aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between the use of self-regulation by the tertiary distance learner and his or her academic achievement in a specific academic course unit. To attain this aim, a literature study was undertaken to: a) define and describe distance learning, b) describe the nature of learning, c) describe the nature of self-regulated learning and its implications for distance learning, and d) define and classify learning strategies and indicate the relationships between self-regulated learning, the use of learning strategies, and successful learning. Literature indicated a positive relationship between self-regulation, the use of learning strategies, learning success, and academic achievement: learning success results whenever pre-formulated learning goals are attained through the use of self-regulation and applicable learning strategies; and attainment of learning goals results in positive academic achievement. Self-regulated learners, who plan their learning, formulate learning goals, motivate themselves intrinsically, instruct themselves, apply different learning strategies to attain learning goals, continuously monitor and self-evaluate themselves during the learning process, are able to attain the formulated learning goals successfully and perform well academically. The literature review also revealed a high level of self-regulation as one of the prerequisites for performing successfully as a distance learner. Planning personal learning goals, using a variety of learning strategies to attain the goals, determining the correct personal learning tempo, monitoring learning progress, and self evaluating learning outcomes are typical characteristics of self-regulation necessary for effective distance learning and academic progress. The population of the research includes the PU vir CHO - Open Learning Academy-learners registered for the Further Diploma in Educational Management, module PSD 511 (Teaching and Learning) in the North West region of South Africa. The total number of students attending the three contact sessions in September 2000 at five sentra in the North West Province, and who participated in the research, was 143. Three questionnaires were used to obtain personal information, as well as information regarding self-regulation in the learners, namely, a biographical questionnaire, the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and the Self Regulated Learning Questionnaire (SRLQ). The data was statistically analized by means of: a) factor analyses, b) multiple regression analyses, and c) stepwise regression analyses. A difference was found to exists between the variables that determine the academic achievement of successful versus unsuccessful distance learners. The importance of effective school leadership : A study performed in senior secondary schools in the Southern Region of Botswana / Opaletswe Baipoledi

The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of effective school leadership. The study was conducted in senior secondary schools in the southern region of Botswana. The southern region comprises of the south and south central regions which has twelve (12) senior secondary schools, out of which seven (07) schools were randomly sampled for the study. Both interviews and questionnaires were used as research tools. One hundred and eighty nine (189) questionnaires were distributed and only one hundred and four (104) were completed and returned. Eight interviews were conducted among school leaders. Results from the questionnaires were analyzed using frequencies, percentages and tables. Results from the interview were analyzed within a framework that was structured along the lines of the research questions. The study reveals that most of the teachers have a teaching qualification (PGDE), have adequate teaching experience, and are generally young (30-35 years). In terms of position of responsibility, most of them are clustered around senior teacher II (42.3%) and teacher/educator (36.5%). The study also reveals that schools performance is hampered largely by indiscipline and laziness towards schoolwork by both stakeholders. The school leaders must act as catalysts in creating a learning environment and be actively involved in implementing improvement strategies that help both students and teachers to enhance their learning and achievement (cf. 2. 16. 2). / Thesis (M.Ed)--North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, 2007

Thus, this study aimed to investigate the human aging process, considering the history of life of ten seniors who fit the profile of successful old age, seeking to identify elements that contribute to educational thinking in order to get a successful aging. In this perspective, we argue in this study, the idea that we need to learn to engage in experiences that more than providing satisfaction and well-being in the moment in which we conducted, serve as a potentiating to a successful old age. Thus, throughout this thesis we question: what are the present indicative in the histories of life of elderly people, considered successful, which may contribute to an education that people experiencing their age more satisfactorily. This is a qualitative study, that took as universe a methodological oral history, in which we used as a technique of research a semistructured interview as a part of their life history, with emphasis on consideration of the following categories: diary routine, with emphasis on social harmony in the family, at work and in friendship groups of leisure and physical activity, self-knowledge and the learning experiences throughout life. To get the objectives outlined, as well as lectured on the categories analyzed, we support our reflection on the theory of the course of life, which includes human aging as a historical and cultural contextual reality. Our research revealed, among other things, that successful aging is coupled to an active lifestyle, where the involvement in physical activities, recreational and social experiences throughout life is important for increasing self-esteem, autonomy and joy of living, conditions that enable successful old age. Our study also revealed that the educationfor successful old age is linked with the consumption along the life, educational activities which broaden the possibilities of social interaction between people, even among different generations, since the interaction is important to learn and accept our possibilities and limits. / Compreendemos que a velhice bem-sucedida n?o se resume unicamente na an?lise de aspectos quantitativos referentes ? situa??o econ?mica do sujeito que envelhece, mas sim que este modo especial de envelhecer encontra-se relacionado a outros valores, como por exemplo, a dignidade, a felicidade, a auto-estima, a disposi??o, a autonomia, a independ?ncia, o envolvimento social com a fam?lia e com os amigos, dentre outros. Nesse sentido, este estudo teve como objetivo investigar o processo de envelhecimento humano, considerando a hist?ria de vida de dez idosos que se enquadram no perfil de velhice bem-sucedida, buscando identificar elementos que contribuam para pensarmos a??es educativas favorecedoras de um envelhecimento bem-sucedido. Nessa perspectiva, defendemos, neste estudo, a id?ia de que necessitamos aprender a nos envolver em experi?ncias que, al?m de nos proporcionar satisfa??o e bem-estar no momento em que as realizamos, nos sirvam como potencializadoras para uma velhice bem-sucedida. Deste modo, ao longo dessa tese questionamos: quais os indicativos presentes nas hist?rias de vida de idosos considerados bem-sucedidos que podem contribuir para uma educa??o que permita as pessoas vivenciarem sua velhice de maneira mais satisfat?ria? Trata-se de estudo de car?ter qualitativo, que teve como universo metodol?gico a Hist?ria Oral, no qual utilizamos como t?cnica de pesquisa a entrevista semi-estruturada, no ?mbito da hist?ria de vida, com ?nfase para a an?lise das seguintes categorias: rotina di?ria, com destaque para a conviv?ncia social na fam?lia, no trabalho e nos grupos de amizade e de lazer e de atividade f?sica; o autoconhecimento e as aprendizagens vivenciadas ao longo da vida. Para atendermos os objetivos tra?ados, bem como dissertamos sobre as categorias analisadas, apoiamos nossa reflex?o na teoria do curso de vida, a qual compreende o envelhecimento humano como sendo uma realidade contextualizada, hist?rica e cultural. Nossa pesquisa revelou, entre outros aspectos, que o envelhecimento bem-sucedido encontra-se atrelado a um estilo de vida ativo, onde o envolvimento em atividades f?sicas, recreativas e sociais, vivenciadas ao longo da vida ? fundamental para ampliar a auto-estima, a autonomia e alegria de viver, condi??es necess?rias para viabilizar a velhice bemsucedida Nosso estudo, tamb?m revelou que a educa??o para avelhice bem-sucedida encontra-se atrelada ao oferecimento, ao longo da vida, de a??es educativas que alarguem as possibilidades de conviv?ncia social entre os indiv?duos, inclusive entre pessoas de diferentes gera??es, posto que o conv?vio ? importante para que possamos aprender a aceitar nossas possibilidades e limites

The main aim of those theses is to present possibilities of financial support from the EU {--} Community programmes of the EU for the subjects in the South Bohemia region. There are mentioned chances of the financial support from the EU in the first part of my work. The next part presents community programmes in the field of education and culture and activities, which can be supported from these sources. Statistic figures of the financial support status are named at the end of each chapter. There is an example of the successful apply of grants as well as some successful projects realised by subjects from South Bohemia in the conclusion part of my theses. The goal of this section was to present the application process. Theses contain also some recommendation for the future increase of the financial drawing from discussed available sources.
