Characteristics of Successful Personal Trainers

Abbott, Melinda January 2018 (has links)
Personal trainers are paid fitness professionals who curate exercise programs for their clients, bridging the gaps between health, commerce, and fitness. This study seeks to identify specific attributes of personal trainers associated with success, using a crosssectional design. An online survey was used to evaluate career success and levels of emotional intelligence using a convenience sample of certified, working personal trainers (N = 225). Two instruments were developed to capture the concepts of emotional intelligence and career success. Characteristics thought to be most pertinent in the field of personal training are those associated with Emotional Intelligence, as measured by the Emotional Intelligence in Personal Trainers [EIPT] instrument, developed as part of the study. Career success is measured by evaluating career satisfaction, professional progression and professional development using the Success as a Personal Training [SAAPT] instrument, also developed as part of the study. Demographic and work-related items measured variables like weekly productivity, location of training session, type of education, and certification to capture additional characteristics of the sample. The validated Career Success Survey [CSS] was used alongside the EIPT and the SAAPT. It was hypothesized that there would be a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and success. In addition, it was hypothesized that weekly productivity and years of experience would be related to success. Regression analysis findings show that although work-related variables are significant predictors of success, accounting for 19% of the variance in success, Emotional Intelligence accounts for variance in success above and beyond work-related variables, accounting for nearly 49% of additional variance in total success scores (p < .001). This result supports the hypothesis that EI is a significant predictor of success in addition to those work related factors like how many sessions are performed and years of employment.

Australia’s entrepreneurial spirit: the contribution of franchising

Bothams, Christopher M January 2008 (has links)
This research identifies the experiences, behaviours, attitudes, values and beliefs of Australia's most successful franchise owners in order to understand the reasons for their outstanding success in a business environment designed to encourage replication and uniformity. In this study, twelve of Australia's best franchisees have been interviewed to find out their personal qualities that have enabled them to succeed in the franchise business environment. A qualitative methodology within a constructivist ontology and interpretivist epistemology has been used. Interviews were conducted, coded, analysed and models developed using NVivo software. The coding and analysis led to the development of six key characteristics or behaviours of successful franchisees. Australia's best franchisees are successful because they are highly motivated, have outstanding business skills, are committed to franchising, demonstrate remarkable personal qualities reflected in highly ethical leadership with exceptional communication skills and create a business environment that has real customer focus. Human qualities are difficult to isolate and quantify. This research highlights those necessary to succeed in franchising and business generally. The findings from this research have been presented as a framework for franchisee success. The framework provides the basis of human characteristics and elements to consider in franchisee selection and business skill development. The title of this research is in many ways its conclusion. The contribution of franchising to Australia's entrepreneurial spirit is the growth and development of the business skills of franchisees, many of whom are entrepreneurs in the making.

Ahlström, Björn January 2009 (has links)
This thesis examines the relationship between organizations structure, culture and leadership. The specific organization that has been studied is Swedish secondary schools. The Swedish schools have a divided task, first to develop the students academic skills and secondly to develop the students socially and civically. This thesis has its interest on the schools social environment with special interest focused on questions regarding bullying and insulting behaviour. The data that has been used consists of interviews and questionnaires with students, teachers and principals in 24 Swedish schools that have been studied in a larger study. This work is a part of a project called Structure, Culture and Leadership – prerequisites for successful schools?.  The 24 schools that took part in the SCL study were divided in to four different groups depending on how well they are succeeding in reaching the social and academic objectives formulated in the steering documents. The main result show that principals that succeed to align structure and culture in relation to both the social and academic objectives are the ones that can be perceived as successful. It is these schools that have the lowest level of bullying and the highest grades. The principal takes social responsibility and takes questions in relation to bullying and insulting behaviour seriously. By doing that the principal can communicate the seriousness of the topic in order to develop awareness within the organization and a preventive work can therefore be possible. In schools that work with the students’ ability to be participative seems to develop the students both socially and academically. / Structure, Culture and Leadership - Prerequisites for Successful Schools?

Impulsivity, irresponsibility, alcohol and substance use differ between “unsuccessful” and “successful” individuals with high levels of psychopathic personality traits / Impulsivitet, ansvarslöshet, alkohol- och droganvändning skiljer mellan "misslyckade" och "lyckade" individer med höga nivåer av psykopatiska personlighetsdrag

Hansson, Matilda, Rosengren, Sara January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate what distinguishes psychopaths who commit crimes ("unsuccessful"), and psychopaths who do not commit crimes ("successful"). Most previous research has focused on neurobiological risk factors, while social and psychosocial factors have been studied to a lesser extent. Participants were drawn from the Swedish population-based RESUMÉ-study (Retrospective Study of Young People's Experiences). In total, 2500 individuals between the ages 20-24 (mean age=22.15, SD=1.38, 52.6% female and 47.4% male) participated in the study. Results showed that the “unsuccessful” psychopathy group was consuming larger amounts of alcohol and substances as well as scoring higher on the psychopathy dimension behavior (irresponsible/impulsive) than the "successful" group. In conclusion, these differences might partly explain why “unsuccessful” psychopaths commit crimes while “successful” psychopaths do not.

Factors of Successful and Unsuccessful e-Projects -A Case Study of a Non-Profit Education and Training Institute

Kao, Yi-Chih 21 July 2005 (has links)
The study aims to find key factors of information system success in a non-profit education and training institute. The institute under study has five centers providing on-job training and long-term cultivation in the area of information technology. Facing the pressure of continuing growth and increasing competition, the institute has begun the e-projects since many years ago. After several years of system development and implementation, a survey of users¡¦ satisfaction showed that only part of the systems was acceptable. This study adopts the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the primary research framework along with the service quality model and comes up with five success factors including perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, system quality, information quality and service quality. Moreover, user satisfaction is taken as dependent variable of the framework. In order to differentiate the successful system from the unsuccessful system, a curriculum management system and a knowledge management system was selected to represent the successful and unsuccessful systems respectively. The case study method and questionnaire survey wre both used as research method. In the case study, the development and implementation background, process and results were investigated. The survey method was used to verify the differences between the two systems using the five factors mentioned previously. The results of questionnaire survey and statistical test clearly distinguish the two systems and support case study findings. The results of this study can serve as guideline to improve the users¡¦ satisfaction as well as to improve the information system success.

The Effect of Mergers and Acquisitions on Industry Structure and Key Successful Factors:The Case Study of Securities Industry 1998~2000

Chang, Sung-An 20 June 2001 (has links)
Abstract Mergers and Acquisitions often happen in America and Europe, but in Taiwan they are just on the start stage. In the end of 1999, two of top ten securities firms-- Yuanta Securities Firm and Core Pacific Securities Firm merged. This M&A case triggered a series of M&A actions in the securities industry, and the rank and ecology of the industry changed a lot. My thesis focuses on the effects of industry structure and key success factors due to the series of M&A actions in securities industry. My four research objectives are : 1. to find out the motives of securities firms¡¦ M&A 2. to find out what happened to industry structure after the several M&A actions 3. If the industry structure changed, to find out the influences of key success factors of industry 4. Facing the changed industry environment, to give securities firms some suggestions The analysis methods of my thesis are literature reviewing and interviewing the securities firms. Porter¡¦s ¡§Five Forces Model¡¨ is the main analyzing theory. The research results find that the main motive of the securities firms¡¦ M&A is to expand the scale, in order to globalize and develop to be an investment bank. After several M&A actions, the most obvious changes are the decrease of securities firm numbers and the change of rank. The intensity of industry competition alleviates and the threat of substitute and potential entrant diminishes. The bargaining power of customers doesn¡¦t change. As to key successful factors, the importance of securities firms¡¦ size increases. Globalization, training of professional employees, innovation of products and information technology are required resources and capacities of securities firms.
