Supervisors, Trainees, and Client Outcomes in the Training Clinic: Toward an Understanding of Relational Factors

Estimates of healthy years of life lost due to mental illness are increasing, calling greater attention to the provision of effective psychotherapy services. Hypothesized to be the key mechanism through which competencies are developed in trainee clinicians and subsequent client outcomes, clinical supervision is deserving of greater attention. Drawing on a sample of supervisors, trainees, and clients from a training clinic, the present study sought to clarify the relational factors that could facilitate the asserted supervisor-client outcome link and to better understand if, and how, clinical supervisors influence client outcomes. With the exception of supervisor openness to experience, supervisor factors did not predict meaningful variance in client outcomes. Trainee extraversion and openness to experience predicted significant variance in leader-member exchange and supervisory working alliance. Dispositional trainee factors (e.g., personality) appear to impact trainee perceptions of the supervisory relationship. Implications for training and development are discussed, in addition to directions for future research.

[pt] Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo buscar entendimentos sobre a interação dentro do contexto profissional no qual estou inserida: a equipe de supervisoras acadêmicas de uma instituição de ensino de inglês como língua estrangeira. À luz dos princípios da Prática Exploratória (Allwright, 2001), monitorei atividades nas quais nos engajamos nos bastidores de nossa prática diária, assumindo o papel de pesquisadora praticante inserida no contexto de pesquisa. Os dados foram gerados a partir de CIPEs - Conversas Informais com Potencial Exploratório (Azevedo, 2005), notas de campo e gravações em áudio de reuniões planejadas, conversas informais e da interação diária entre as supervisoras dentro dos cubículos do Departamento Acadêmico. A análise dos dados, com base em conceitos advindos da Sociolingüística Interacional, permitiu-me identificar no curso desses diferentes momentos de interação do grupo como se dão: construção de conhecimento e credibilidade profissional, tomadas de decisões e resoluções de problemas, e a construção da identidade do grupo. Ao promover o envolvimento do grupo nessa busca por entendimentos, este estudo acrescentou uma nova dimensão ao nosso fazer supervisão no dia-a-dia: um olhar exploratório sobre nossas experiências de participação e não-participação em diferentes comunidades de prática (Wenger,1998) dentro da instituição. / [en] This study aims at searching for understandings of the interaction in the professional context I belong to: the team of academic supervisors in an EFL school. Following the principles of Exploratory Practice (Allwright, 2001), I monitored activities in which we engaged in the backstage of our daily practice, adopting the role of a practitioner researcher. Data was generated through potentially exploitable informal conversations (Azevedo, 2005), field notes, and audio recordings of scheduled meetings, informal meetings and the daily interaction inside the supervisors´ room. Data analysis, based on concepts of Interactional Sociolinguistics, allowed me to identify, in the supervisors´ discourse, how we construct professional knowledge and credibility, make decisions and resolve problems and construct our group identity. By involving the group in this search for understanding, this study has added a new dimension to our daily practice in supervision: an exploratory look at our experiences of participation and non-participation in different communities of practice (Wenger,1998) inside the school.

金融控股公司發展與綜效分析 / The development and synergy analysis of Financial Holding Company

近二十年來,臺灣積極推動金融自由化及國際化,臺灣銀行業於1991年陸續開放16家新銀行設立以來,競爭加劇。同時,臺灣正式加入WTO後,臺灣金融機構面臨來自國際間跨國金融業嚴峻的挑戰,然而銀行體系普遍所面臨的問題,包括銀行家數過多、規模過小、同質性過高、逾放比過高等現象,都是主管機關在近年來希望能進行金融改革的重要課題。正當此際,為了迎接國際強大的金融集團競爭挑戰,政府必需盡速解決國內的金融問題,加速整合金融機構,因此早在2001年6月27日即通過《金融六法》,其中《金融控股公司法》對臺灣金融業的影響甚巨,其立法目的是希望臺灣金融體制朝向“股權集中化、組織大型化、經營多角化、監理透明化”方向發展,以提升金融機構的競爭力及國際化。 《金融控股公司法》通過至今已有十四家金融控股公司成立,重整了金融版圖,也影響銀行的經營模式。本研究透過搜集先進國家的金融制度發展及臺灣目前金融市場概況來研究金融控股制度對銀行業經營所產生之影響。 跨業經營已是國際間金融業整合之趨勢,因此,金融控股公司法的設立將付予臺灣金融機構進行整合、轉型的機制,讓其更具競爭力,只是是否每一金融控股公司均能成功經營,恐怕短期間業者仍要面臨階段性的調整壓力,並非一蹴可及;再則,在該法設立後,金融監理一元化將更形重要,否則當金融機構跨業經營形成金融巨人後,未來發生弊端時,就會變成金融怪獸,所引爆的金融危機,將更為迅速且嚴重,連鎖反應將更為擴大。究竟金融控股公司的設立,能否為臺灣的金融業帶來生機?以及政府應在准許業界設立金融控股公司的同時,要如何建立專業、獨立與有效率的監理機制,以避免增加業者的管理成本,並提升金融業的競爭力?是本文的研究目的。 本研究以質化研究中之個案分析法為研究方法,針對個案公司之總體策略進行研究,以策略形態分析法進行。因我國金控公司成立年代尚短,金控公司中子公司業別、轉投資事業與策略聯盟等總體策略的完整性與代表性皆具足較少,在個案選擇上來源有限。富邦金控(Fubon Financial Co., Ltd)在子公司業別、轉投資事業與策略聯盟等總體策略的完整性與代表性較其他金控公司相對完整,且經營績效表現亦佳,故以個案分析法綜合上述資料分析歸納出本研究之結論。 研究結果顯示,金融控股公司制度為近代世界金融體制之新潮流,全球金融商品已進入國際化,多元化的時代,傳統銀行的金融商品已無法滿足顧客之需求,因此銀行經營多元化已為一種趨勢,在金控公司體制下的銀行可藉交叉行銷金控子公司之各項金融商品提供顧客「一次購足」的服務,且能有效運用資源,降低成本,因此較單獨經營之銀行更具範疇經濟的效果及優勢。所以許多銀行選擇加入金控公司,也間接加速了銀行合併。 / Taiwan has been actively promoting financial liberalization and internationalization in the last two decades, and the competition is intensified when 16 new banks were set up since 1991. After Taiwan enters WTO formally, all the financial institutions face severe challenge from international banks, moreover, the domestic banking system has been facing problems such as over banking, small business scale, similar business nature, high NPL ratio, etc, and these are the problems that the government must solve as quick as possible. Taiwan government passed "Six Laws on Finance" on June 27th 2001, in order to improve the competitiveness and internationalization of the financial institutions in the following four aspects, "centralization of ownership, organization maximization, business diversification and transparent supervision". Cross business operating is becoming the main driver of international financial industry integration nowadays. The Financial Holding Company Law can help Taiwan financial institutions to merge and transform to become more competitive. At the same time, supervising authority should also review the guidelines and standards to cope with the fast changing financial habitat. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of the Financial Holding Company model to the Taiwan financial industry and the measures that authority should take to have better monitoring and supervising over financial institutions in the effective and cost saving way. The case analytic approach in this research is studied with the qualitative method and analyzed by shape tactics. Fubon Financial Holding Company is more representative with better performance, so we choose it as an example in our case study. The study result shows that financial holding company model is a new trend of the modern banking system. Traditional financial products can no longer meet customers’ needs and the global financial products nowadays must be internationalized and diversified, that’s why diversification of business is also a main theme of the banking industry now. Under the Financial Holding Company model banks can cross sell products from subsidiaries of holding companies. By providing this “one stop shopping” service banks can allocate resources more efficiently and lower cost, so a lot of banks choose to join to become Financial Holding Company and which accelerated the merger of banks indirectly.

Há tempos a Psicologia Clínica vem redimensionando seus campos de atividade, ampliando suas modalidades interventivas e área de atuação. Este fato a tem direcionado para o desenvolvimento de estudos e pesquisas sobre vários aspectos das relações humanas, institucionais, organizacionais, entre outros. Neste trabalho, desenvolveu-se um estudo a partir de uma dessas modalidades que, apesar de muito difundida no meio, ainda carece de mais estudos e sistematizações: a supervisão. Utilizando- nos mais precisamente de Supervisão de Apoio Psicológico, a proposta é vincular uma outra modalidade de prática clínica, a Oficina de Criatividade, para supervisionar coordenadores de grupos de idosos. A Oficina de Criatividade, nesse sentido, é um dispositivo que disponibiliza estratégias específicas para o trabalho de supervisão com esses profissionais. Tanto a supervisão quanto a oficina estão vinculadas com o conceito de aprendizagem experiencial, ou seja, que parte da experiência para constituir-se. The theoretical part of the dissertation is aimed at identifying and overcoming of dilemmas in social work. It deals with external and internal instruments that help to solve dilemmas, like ethical code, supervising and the personality of the worker. I discuss the starting points of work and the system of services in the drug field in the Czech Republic. The practical part contains an investigative probe focused on the perception of dilemmas in working experience in a facility dealing with lowthreshold services in the drug field. This part explores whether workers in this field feel the dilemma working with clients, how they overcome them and who or what can assist them during the process of overcoming these dilemmas. Furthermore, an investigative probe detects whether the dilemmas in the chosen facility are the same as the theoretically described dilemmas mentioned by L. Musil, a reputable expert in social work.

Sociální začleňování osob propuštěných z výkonu trestu / Social Including of Convicted Offenders Left from Prison

The title of the thesis is Social Integration of People Released from the Prison. The theoretical part describes current situation concerning living conditions of the people sentenced to the prison, that are determined by legal standards in Czech Republic and by internal regulations of each jail house. These conditions form the personality of convicts and influence their social situation, relationships, and connections. The convicts need after the release to be helped with their integration into the society the most and also to be helped with handling their social situation to avoid recidivism. The aim of the diploma work is to describe problems of individuals released from the prison and the process of resocialization in detail. The thesis also provides the survey of possibilities for helping these people, thus service provided for people with inability to adapt to a society and types of facilities dealing with this target group. The practical part was conceived as the qualitative research in form of case studies using semi-structured interviews with the individuals released from the prison. I asked eight clients 28 questions in following categories: social situation of clients before the sentence, their life while imprisoned, their return to freedom and cooperation of the clients with institutions. There was also performed subsidiary quantitative research within the diploma work. I inquired social workers supervising released adults two questions, using e-mail correspondence. The questions were concerning the most frequent problems they had to deal with, after a client was released from the prison, and also services in Czech Republic{\crq}s system that workers missed in helping the target group. I outlined the comparison of the results coming out of my investigation with the current situation in related area, and also with other investigations at the end of my thesis. I recommend for improving the situation of the released individuals from prison to establish institutions with complete range of assistance, multi focused team, and the support in employing the people with criminal records as the high quality instrument of their social integration.

The binding nature of the opinions of the Supervisory Agency for State Procurement / El Carácter Vinculante de las Opiniones del Organismo Supervisor de las Contrataciones del Estado

In the first part of this essay, the author describes the regulatory regime governing the issuance of opinions by the Supervising Agency of the Government Procurement (OSCE) in Peru. In the second, there is a series of interpretative elements of the binding nature of opinions of OSCE that were provided by the legislature and that institution. The third is a review of the doctrinarian characteristics that defined the institution of the Administrative Advisory Service. And finally, in the fourth part, the author proposes an interpretation of the meaning and scope of the binding nature of opinions of OSCE, with focus on their application across the various stages of government procurement in Peru. / En la primera parte de este artículo se describe el régimen normativo que regula la emisión de opiniones por parte del Organismo Supervisor de las Contrataciones del Estado en el Perú. En la segunda, se recogen una serie de elementos interpretativos del carácter vinculante que el legislador nacional le ha dado a esas opiniones. La tercera hace una revisión de las características con que la doctrina define a la Función Administrativa Consultiva. Y en la cuarta, finalmente, se propone una interpretación del sentido y alcance del carácter vinculante de las opiniones, con especial énfasis en su aplicación durante las diversas etapasde la contratación pública en el Perú.

The role of the lecturer in cultivating a relationship of trust with the student teacher with special reference to teaching practice in the former Transkei region

This study deals with the problem relating to the prevalence of a lack of trust amongst members of today's society generally, and in particular between college lecturers and student teachers. The aim of the dissertation is to investigate the role of the lecturer in cultivating a relationship of trust with the student teacher, especially during teaching practice. The study reveals that the trust relationship manifests itself in various moments. Some characteristics of an effective supervising lecturer are also reflected upon. The major research consists of an empirical investigation into which characteristics of an effective supervising lecturer contribute most towards cultivating a relationship of trust with student teachers during teaching practice. A survey of colleges of education and schools in the former Transkei region participating in the empirical investigation is also conducted.
