O sindicalismo diante da privatização das telecomunicações no Brasil e na Argentina / The unionism on the privatization of telecommunications in Brazil and

Campinho, João de Almeida Rego, 1987- 24 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Andréia Galvão / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-24T23:12:48Z (GMT). This work analyzes the syndical action against the privatization of telecommunications companies in Brazil and Argentina, which occurred in 1998 and 1990 respectively, in order to understand different syndical positions during the privatization. Our study aim to understand and compare actions, characteristics and motivations of different syndical strategies during the privatization. This is because while FOETRA (Federación de Obreros y Empleados Telefónicos de la República Argentina) Buenos Aires tried to resist the privatization through workers¿ movements, Sintetel (Sindicato dos Trabalhadores em Telecomunicações do Estado de São Paulo) did not organize the workers, through strikes, paralysis or protests to prevent the privatization process before began to reconcile with companies and government. In order to better comprehend the different strategies adopted by each country, we will emphasize two central aspects. First, the influence in syndical action of consolidation form of trade unionism in each country, the characteristics of syndical structure and the experiences and traditions of the trade unions analyzed. Second, the effects of the neoliberal context over the syndical organization in both countries. In this way, we hope to contribute to understand the relationship between neoliberalism and trade union action and the relationship between trade unionism and syndical structure / Mestrado / Ciencia Politica / Mestre em Ciência Política

Performance Analysis of AODV, DSR and OLSR in MANET / Resultatanalys av AODV, DSR och OLSR i MANET

Ali, Sajjad, Ali, Asad January 2010 (has links)
A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) consists of mobile wireless nodes. The communication between these mobile nodes is carried out without any centralized control. MANET is a self organized and self configurable network where the mobile nodes move arbitrarily. The mobile nodes can receive and forward packets as a router. Routing is a critical issue in MANET and hence the focus of this thesis along with the performance analysis of routing protocols. We compared three routing protocols i.e. AODV, DSR and OLSR. Our simulation tool will be OPNET modeler. The performance of these routing protocols is analyzed by three metrics: delay, network load and throughput. All the three routing protocols are explained in a deep way with metrics. The comparison analysis will be carrying out about these protocols and in the last the conclusion will be presented, that which routing protocol is the best one for mobile ad hoc networks. / In all the three scenarios of small, large and very large networks OLSR gives considerably less delay and high throughput as compared to AODV and DSR. OLSR outperforms AODV and DSR with prominent difference in delay and throughput. While the AODV puts low load on the network in large and very large networks. OLSR outperforms in our study, but it is not necessary that OLSR always perform better in all the networks, its performance may vary by varying the network. / sajj_ali2003@yahoo.com, asad322@gmail.com

Cloud Computing for Telecom Systems

Sapkota, Sagar, Shehzad, Khawar January 2011 (has links)
Context: Cloud computing is reshaping the service-delivery and business-models in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The Information Technology (IT) sector has benefited from it in the previous 3-5 years. Despite the attraction of cloud computing, it is required to have an effective application migration strategy. Cloud computing with its diverse provisioning models makes it possible for telecom vendors and service providers to decide effective service and business models. Currently, cloud computing contains security, performance and dimensioning considerations for telecom companies. Objectives: This thesis assesses the trends and issues associated with the cloud, with telecommunications perspective, while leveraging the cloud to come to a decision on a suitable cloud environment for telecom grade applications. Analysis of maturity of public cloud (in terms of compatibility, consolidation, compliance and standardization) in general and Amazon cloud in particular, is part of the thesis objective. While doing so, deployment of a telecom-grade product in the Amazon cloud will be evaluated against the current on-premise deployment. We want to identify architectural difference between the two domains, and what issues are faced when a migration is planned. This evaluation between two systems, i.e. on-premise and the cloud will significantly contribute to the research and can be used when making business decisions. Methods: We conducted literature review, survey, and a case study, assessing the above mentioned objectives. Research papers from academia and industry were chosen for literature review; personnel, with experience in cloud computing, were chosen for the survey; and a telecom-grade platform was used to assess the migration issues on Amazon cloud in the case study. The Ericsson Composition Engine (ECE) was used to check what deployment issues it can have on Amazon cloud. Its on-premise Reference Deployment Architecture was compared with the cloud-based Reference Deployment Architecture. This case study served as a confirmation to results obtained in the literature review and survey. Results: In the literature review and survey, we found motivations, trends, current applications, and challenges of cloud computing for telecom. It was found from the case study that Amazon Web Services (AWS) lacks application and network centric attributes that are required in ECE deployment. We propose recommendations that can be integrated with ECE while deploying it in a public cloud. Conclusions: Companies are choosing cloud vendors that uniquely give ease of migration and control, based on application needs and compatibility. ECE cannot be directly migrated to AWS, unless we provide Amazon specific modifications in the architecture. The survey and literature review support a private and/or hybrid strategy for ECE, along with the inclusion of cloud networking into the ECE package.

Performance comparison of KVM and XEN for telecommunication services

Outadi, Siavash, Trchalikova, Jana January 2013 (has links)
High stability of telecommunication services has a positive e ect on customer satisfaction and thus helps to maintain competitiveness of the product in telecommunication market. Since live migration provides a minimal down- time of virtual machines, it is deployed by telecommunication companies to ensure high availability of services and to prevent service interruptions. The main objective of this research is to assess the performance of various hypervisors in terms of live migration and determine which of them best meets the criteria given by a telecommunication company. Response time and CPU utilization of telecommunication services are measured in non- virtualized and virtualized environments to better understand the impacts of virtualization on the services. Two hypervisors, i.e. KVM and XEN, are used to grasp their characteristic behaviour of handling the services. Furthermore, performance of live migration is assessed for both hypervisors using miscellaneous test cases to identify which one has the best overall performance in terms of downtime and total migration time.

Comparison of 2-Year and 4-Year Telecommunications Technicians' Training Programs Against the Industry Standards

Houdashell-Riegel, Karen Marie 12 1900 (has links)
The study focused on the academic programs offered for telecommunications technicians provided by 16 two-year and four-year higher education institutions and the ways in which the programs compared to the established telecommunications technicians' skill standards. Six specific research questions concerned the training programs for telecommunications technicians. The first verified the validity of the information in Peterson's 2000: 2 Year Colleges and Peterson's 2000: 4 Year Colleges identifying the institutions offering a communication equipment technology major. The second question focused on the institutions that included telecommunications as part of the curriculum. The third identified the importance of the skill standards to the 2-year and 4-year training programs, and the fourth identified the job functions that were included in or excluded from the training. The fifth question identified the job tasks that were included in or excluded from the training. The final question determined whether the 2-year or the 4-year telecommunications technicians' training program was more closely aligned with the skill standards. In order to accomplish the objectives of this research, a survey methodology was selected. The survey instrument was developed to compare the importance of the telecommunications technicians' skill standards to the 2-year and the 4-year training programs. The skill standards identified in the 1997 collaborative effort facilitated by the South King County Tech Prep Consortium (SKCTPC) was used as the basis for the survey instrument and reference tool. The reference tool provided additional information regarding SCANS skills and personal qualities that were identified in the skill standards for the telecommunications network technician. The survey included five job functions and 16 tasks. The evolution the telecommunications industry has created a demand for a highly skilled, flexible workforce. Higher education institutions have an opportunity to make a contribution to telecommunications industry by expanding existing training programs or initiating telecommunications technicians' training programs. The 4-year institutions should consider revising not only the curriculum but also their mission and goals. The 2-year institutions are closely aligned with the skill standards, and this is an opportunity for the 2-year institutions to update existing programs.

Extreme Quantile Estimation of Downlink Radio Channel Quality

Palapelas Kantola, Philip January 2021 (has links)
The application area of Fifth Generation New Radio (5G-NR) called Ultra-Reliable and Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) requires a reliability, the probability of receiving and decoding a data packet correctly, of 1 - 10^5. For this requirement to be fulfilled in a resource-efficient manner, it is necessary to have a good estimation of extremely low quan- tiles of the channel quality distribution, so that appropriate resources can be distributed to users of the network system.  This study proposes and evaluates two methods for estimating extreme quantiles of the downlink channel quality distribution, linear quantile regression and Quantile Regression Neural Network (QRNN). The models were trained on data from Ericsson’s system-level radio network simulator, and evaluated on goodness of fit and resourcefulness. The focus of this study was to estimate the quantiles 10^2, 10^3 and 10^4 of the distribution.  The results show that QRNN generally performs better than linear quantile regression in terms of pseudoR2, which indicates goodness of fit, when the sample size is larger. How- ever, linear quantile regression was more effective for smaller sample sizes. Both models showed difficulty estimating the most extreme quantiles. The less extreme quantile to esti- mate, the better was the resulting pseudoR2-score. For the largest sample size, the resulting pseudoR2-scores of the QRNN was 0.20, 0.12 and 0.07, and the scores of linear quantile regression was 0.16, 0.10 and 0.07 for the respective quantiles 10^2, 10^3 and 10^4.  It was shown that both evaluated models were significantly more resourceful than us- ing the average of the 50 last measures of channel quality subtracted with a fixed back-off value as a predictor. QRNN had the most optimistic predictions. If using the QRNN, theo- retically, on average 43% more data could be transmitted while fulfilling the same reliability requirement than by using the fixed back-off value.

International Communications Standards: A Comparative Study of the ITU and ISOC as Regimes

Creely, Thomas Eugene 09 March 2001 (has links)
The proliferation of the Internet has created a need for leadership, which has been filled by the Internet Society (ISOC). This study examines ISOC through the lens of regime theory to explain its role. Regime theory is discussed at length in order to create an applicable model of a regime. This model is grounded in the transnationalists school of thought, originating in the 1970s. The regime model is informed by the work of Keohane and Nye, and Chayes and Chayes. The model is applied to three regimes throughout the study, the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and ISOC. In order to study ISOC, the ITU is examined to form a basis of comparison for telecommunications regimes. The ITU was the first modern international organization and has much in common with ISOC. The ITU is examined using the regime model to facilitate comparison between the ITU and ISOC regimes. As a result of this study, the findings show that ISOC is not a typical state-centric regime. However, it does create the potential for a new open and democratic regime style. ISOC sets standards for the Internet and has taken the responsibility for maintaining it. The potential of ISOC to grow with the Internet and develop a new form of international leadership is demonstrated through this analysis. / Master of Arts

The impact of customer service on customer satisfaction and the resultant behavioural intentions in the telecommunications industry in Uganda

Nsubuga, Nancy K.D. 12 1900 (has links)
Providing high quality customer service that actually satisfies the needs of the customer and results in customer satisfaction is one of the biggest concerns of businesses today. Customer satisfaction determines the behavioural intentions of the customer hence the reason why companies are continuously reaching out to the customer with the aim of building strong relationships that will result in customer loyalty. Managers of companies therefore should be conscious of the role played by quality customer service in building these strong relationships. By gaining such insights into customer perceptions and expectations managers will be in a position to offer products and services that meet customer demands. This study was been based on the customer’s perspectives and their experiences with telecom providers in Kampala, Uganda. A quantitative approach and a questionnaire as data collection tool were used in the conduction of this study. The findings suggest that service quality plays a key role in customer satisfaction. In addition to this the findings also suggest that customer satisfaction plays a key role in determining customer loyalty and customer switching depending on the situation. The findings in this study are similar to those findings of studies done in other countries.
