Soldiers and familiy members' reflections on the Foreign Service effects on relationships, family life and mental health

Rosengren, Mari, Sjöström Andersson, Annika January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine whether and in what way family relationships change through descriptions of family members where abroad service exists to contribute with increased knowledge of how to treat these families. The study questions are: how do the family members describe the relationships in their families before, during and after the service abroad, and how do they describe how the service abroad affect their lives? The method chosen is a method who is resting on a qualitative basis with a phenomenological approach. Seven interviews were conducted. The analysis of the interviews took place through an empiricism guided thematic analysis. The main themes that emerged from the analysis are: relationships, life gone - home life and mental health. The main result is that there will be a difference in family relationships before, during and after an overseas service because the service abroad divide the families' everyday lives and realities. Family work resting on systemic basis, must be considered the treatment that could best meet these families' need for help, which is supported by the families' own wishes.

Role ICT v každodenním životě a mobilitě mladých lidí / The role of ICT in everyday life and mobility of young people

Vojtěchovská, Klára January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on the role of ICT in everyday life and mobility of young people. The main goal of this thesis is to find out how the physical and virtual space mingle in the everyday life and mobility of young people who have been selected for the research, using diaries as a qualitative method. The aim was to point out some specifics of everyday activities in the physical and virtual space of the deliberately selected sample of young people that may be present in the whole population. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part deals with the virtual space, Time geography in relation to ICT and some studies concerning different perspectives of the influence of ICT on everyday life of people. The empirical part focuses on the use of ICT by selected socio- demographical groups of Czech inhabitants and some time aspects of the use of ICT and other activities performed by young people and other age groups. Then, the key part is about the description of the mingling of virtual and physical space in the everyday life of 10 communication partners. Their mobility patterns are based on the mingling of two basic types of movements, virtual and physical. The mingling of virtual and physical space is also based on the time mingling of all activities, including the social...

Le Paradoxe de l'action furtive. / The paradox of furtive actions

Lapalu, Sophie 27 January 2017 (has links)
Throughout the XXth century and still today, artists of diverse horizons have claimed for ordinary acts done out in public spaces the status of artworks. Created amidst big city crowd, none of these acts, however, took place in the presence of a spectator. Due to artistic indiscernibility during their effectuation, we name them “furtive actions”. Considering the adjective “furtive” to qualify which seeks to “to escape the look, to go unnoticed”, how might such actions become artworks? Our task is to study this paradox, notably through the works of Vito Acconci, Adrian Piper, Jiří Kovanda or Francis Alÿs.We aim to apprehend the energy that led these artists to leave the sites traditionally dedicated to art in order to embrace the metropolitan crowds. We propose as hypothesis an “attitude of the modern”; the artist engages actively within the world and its elaboration. We then study the way furtive action becomes art work and the structure that takes shape, between dissimulation and revelation. These publications enable the furtive action to become art and to function as “screens” that indicate the past act and at the same time conceal it, orienting in reverse the perception by the spectator. Finally, we analyze reception of the furtive action become art work, wherein the time-lapse sets up a dialogic relationship and contributes to a transformation of the public. The art work thus asserts its value of exemplarity and invites the spectator toward action.

The Effects of Cognitive Training among Individuals with Neurodegenerative Diseases

Valdes, Elise Gabriela 07 June 2016 (has links)
With the growing older adult population, neurodegenerative diseases common in old age such as mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or Parkinson’s disease (PD) are becoming increasingly germane areas of research. Pharmacological treatments have thus far been unsuccessful in treating cognitive decline associated with these neurodegenerative disorders. Alternative interventions, such as cognitive training programs, have shown promise. The current dissertation contains three papers examining cognitive interventions in neurodegenerative diseases. The first paper examined the longitudinal effects of cognitive speed of processing training (SPT) among those with PD. Results showed that training gains seen at initial post-test were maintained three months later. The second paper examined the effects of SPT among those with psychometrically-defined MCI and found small to medium effect sizes for improvements in everyday functional performance among those trained. The third paper examined the effects of auditory cognitive training among cognitively healthy older adults and those with psychometrically-defined MCI and found that effects may differ between those with and with MCI. Overall, these papers show that training effects can be maintained longitudinally and may potentially transfer to everyday functioning in those with neurodegenerative diseases. However, not all cognitive training programs show benefits in all areas, and individuals with differing cognitive statuses may benefit differentially from cognitive training. Future research should further explore the longitudinal effects of these training programs as well as the possibility of transfer to untrained abilities.

[en] THE APOTHEOSIS OF BLOOD: REPRESENTATIONS OF RIO DE JANEIRO IN NELSON RODRIGUES / [pt] APOTEOSE DE SANGUE: REPRESENTAÇÕES DO RIO DE JANEIRO EM NELSON RODRIGUES

CAROLINA MONTEBELO BARCELOS 30 May 2017 (has links)
[en] The aim of this investigation is to analyse the way in which the city and the daily life of 1950 s Rio de Janeiro are represented by Nelson Rodrigues in A vida como ela é and Pouco amor não é amor, published in the 1950 s in the newspapers Última Hora and Jornal da Semana - FLAN, respectively, and in three Carioca tragedies: A falecida (1953), Os sete gatinhos (1958) and Boca de ouro (1959). Considering that Rodrigues s plays can only be related to Greek tragic drama with regard to certain themes and elements, since the tragic genre underwent changes throughout centuries, leading to discussions on the possibility of a modern tragedy, this investigation first attempts to examine the concept of tragedy in Rodrigues s writing and the way in which it can be perceived in the plays located in Rio, differently from his mythical and psychological plays. It is assumed that since Rodrigues s short stories from A vida como ela é and Pouco amor não é amor, the writer moved from universal tragedies to Carioca tragedies. Besides the approach to recurring themes in his work such as love, death, sex, betrayal, game and the press, the writer experimented with new characters and conflicts in these short stories, using a more colloquial language closer to daily carioca speech. Thus, after an analysis of this new Rodriguean writing, an investigation is carried out into how the Carioca urban area - south zone, north zone, downtown and suburbs – is not only suitable as a setting, but also outlines situations and conflicts of characters in the three Carioca tragedies studied.

Vězeňská zkušenost (1914-1918) / The Prison Experience (1914-1918)

Junková, Veronika January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis The Prison Experience (1914-1918). Cyril Dušek's correspondence from prison deals with the correspondence which theoretically and metodically considers to be a historical source and a mean of communication between prisoners and their families. It focuses on the political prisoner's correspondence during the World War I. Correspondence from prison was the only way to connect prisoners with their friends and families, thus it is very significant in research. It provides an interesting insight into the everyday life in prison, further it reveals the various individual perception manners and development of human thinking in the tense situations. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze a prison correspondence of Cyril Dušek (1881-1924) who was a responsible redactor of the magazine Čas and a member of the resistance movement, further to present its importance in the context of the other preserved correspondence, the censorship aspects of correspondence from prison and also to desribe the everyday life of the political prisoners.

The learning of Colombian young adults in their daily practices on the Web

Giraldo Cadavid, Diana 10 June 2015 (has links)
This doctoral thesis aims to understand the daily Web practices of young adults, in relation to their learning through digital resources and tools. The context of this study is Colombia, a country where the integration of Internet in everyday life is a relatively recent phenomenon, but where youth are the largest group of users. We are particularly interested in young people between 19 to 25 years of age, undergraduate students and from middle classes in urban areas. From a communicational perspective, we propose an analysis of their learning as a process which is socially and culturally rooted and inseparable from their identity construction. First, we inquire about the spheres of socialization, the technologies, the usages, the social practices and the cultural values involved. Thus, we consider their digital practices as experienced and perceived by them in everyday life. The analysis also focuses on their online production practices, such as writing blogs or sharing in digital networks, as well as their cultural consumption on the Web. We highlight the active behavior adopted by young people to respond to the abundance, the diversity, the convergence, and the constant change of the media and technological offer. Finally, we examine the skills acquired and developed by them. We explore how they manage their own learning process and develop a reflexive attitude about their Web usage. Thereby, this work seeks to contribute to a better understanding of how digital resources and tools allow young people to acquire new social roles and, therefore, to build a new relationship to knowledge and culture.

Childrearing and education as social, political and everyday matters: an ethnography of poor neighbourhoods in the suburbs of Buenos Aires / La crianza y educación infantil como cuestión social, política y cotidiana: una etnografía en barrios populares del gran Buenos Aires

Santillán, Laura 25 September 2017 (has links)
Important advances have been made in the social sciences with respect to our understanding of cultural variation in forms of childrearing and education.  However, common sense and certain academic discourses are persistently reductionist in taking only some aspects of childhood into consideration. In this article I analyze the processes and relations that surround activities related to childcare and education in contexts of marked social inequality.  The analysis is based on ethnographic fieldwork in popular neighbourhoods of Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. I demonstrate how the socialization and education of children living in poor neighbourhoods are embedded in networks of intervention that depend on diverse social actors that include but also exceed the bounds of the institutions that might be expected to relate to this sector.  These actors, discussed as «social» and «political,» produce meanings that refer to education in its connections to different dimensions of social life, in a framework of social relations that are shot through with power.

This dissertation aims to understand the everyday life of people with a schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis being treated in substitutive services through their narratives about their everyday life experiencing the illness. The narratives analyzed by this project were collected between 2009 and 2011, by a matrix research named "PROJECT EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND NARRATIVE: The PERSPECTIVE PSYCHIATRIST AND THE USER", which ended in 2011. The main objective of this dissertation was to know the everyday life of people with schizophrenia-spectrum diagnosis inserted in Psychosocial Care Centers in three Brazilian municipalities (Campinas, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador), from their narratives about the experience of mental illness. The specific objectives are: 1- Know and describe the everyday life of CAPS users prior to the start of the illness; 2- Know and describe the everyday life of CAPS users during the first illness experiences, the first crisis and the diagnosis; 3-Know and describe the everyday life of CAPS users at the beginning of treatment and during its course. This research is part of a multi-center qualitative inquiry, adopting phenomenological analysis as a reference. The framework adopted is the interpretive phenomenology (hermeneutic), drawing from socio-anthropological studies and phenomenological psychopathology. The data analysis follows the interpretative phenomenological analysis of the transcripts from focus groups with CAPS users, from the matrix research. The themes found and analyzed were the following: Self-perception, perception of others and perception of the world; Relationship with treatment places; Work and Religion. The narratives¿ richness can be perceived from the singularity and complexity of social relations and the diversity of actions that compose the everyday life of people going through the disease process in schizophrenia, and the need for Public Policy and sensitive treatment to explore this complexity and singularity in the daily life of those involved / Mestrado / Política, Planejamento e Gestão em Saúde / Mestra em Saúde Coletiva
