Dolování a mincování v Kutné Hoře jako námět integrované tematické výuky v dějepise na druhém stupni základní školy / Mining and Minting in Kutna Hora as a Topic of Integrated Thematic Instruction in History Education in Secondary SchoolsUrbanová, Petra January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is devoted to the concept of integrated thematic teaching, the history of silver ore mining and coinage in Kutná Hora. The practical part presents the integrated thematic education for pupils of the secondary school, which was verified in practice at secondary school in Suchdol. The mining of silver ore and silver coinage in Kutná Hora was explained theoretically and practically to pupils. Pupils worked with school historical sources and literature relevant to the subject. Part of the practical part was a field trip to the Italian Court in Kutná Hora. In the teaching were used methods, which support brain-compatible learning according to the concept of integrated thematic teaching (for example an interview, a group work, a photography, a brainstorming, etc.). Part of the diploma thesis is also evaluation of the practical implementation of the proposal. There are reviewed not only the benefits but also the pitfalls of integrated thematic lessons.

Children's Representations of Death : A Thematic and Visual Discourse Analysis of Children's Drawings in a Mexican Primary SchoolTéllez Duval, Dulce Karenina January 2018 (has links)
This study focuses on analysing Mexican children’s representations of death inasmuch as children are perceived as social actors that have an active role in constructing and giving meaning to social reality. The importance of analysing children’s representations about death is that it provides an opportunity to know how children give meaning to a notion that intersects with personal experiences, emotions, religious beliefs, and a sociocultural context. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyse, visually and verbally, the ways in which children - from 8 to 9 years of age - in a Mexican primary school represent their understanding of death through their drawings and their oral descriptions of them, which may unveil their opinions on the subject. The research material consists of the drawings and interviews of primary school children in Mexico. The girls and boys, who were in third grade, were selected from a school population based on a convenience sampling (Bryman 2016, p.187). The method of analysis is a combination of thematic analysis and Rose’s visual discourse analysis I. The main findings are that the participants represented their understanding of death in terms of realistic, fantastic and afterlife narratives according to their experiences. Most of the participants’ visions of death were represented with archetypal symbols of death, such as death personified. Contrary, the representations of the few participants who had a personal loss were realistic, except for one of them. In this sense, children’s representations of death draw on discourses imbued in visual media, religion, morality, and culture. Children's emotions about death varied according to their experiences, although most participants said that they do not fear death. Regarding life after death, most participants recognize a duality between body and soul. While the body dies, the soul lives and the place where the soul goes was perceived mainly in moralistic terms.

Mobile interpretive apps as educational mediating tools in science education: participant-based digital design in natural history and science museumsHammond-Todd, Michael Andrew 28 August 2018 (has links)
The use of mobile and social learning media for K-12 students continues to rapidly increase in both formal and informal learning environments. While many educational apps have been developed for adult visitors to museums and science and technology centres (STCs), very few programs exist that are specifically designed to meet the unique learning and interpretive needs of elementary students in these learning environments. This dissertation explores the inclusion and development of children’s ideas and digitally mediated interpretive activities for peers within the exhibits of the natural history gallery at the Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM) in Victoria, British Columbia. In this triangulated case study, thirteen Grade 4 and 5 students, five museum interpreters, and six elementary teachers worked in teams to design educational apps for their peers using experimental software specifically designed for this project. Five design teams composed of 2-3 students, one teacher, and a museum educator designed a wide variety of science activities for the natural history gallery at the RBCM. The results of analytic triangulation indicate that mobile interpretive apps acted as imperfect but important educational mediating tools for the participants in this study. The analysis revealed that, despite initial preconceptions and frustrations students and educators had about mobile design and technologies, Grade 4 and 5 elementary students were capable and highly interested creating mobile science apps for the natural history galleries at RBCM. Students and educators designed content and activities that extended participant-based learning opportunities beyond the existing science programs and curriculum currently available at the RBCM. The dissertation concludes with an examination of how informal science institutions can move beyond educational interactivity to more participatory frameworks that include the ideas and voices of young people within mobile learning and educational app development at natural history museums and STCs in the future. / Graduate

The research reflects about curricular thematic of Science Information (SCI) field, evidenced by the analysis of the Research Lines and educational Plans of disciplines at the Brazilian Science Information Post-Graduated. The thematics has been treated related to the categories visualized in the headings and summaries of Research Lines Disciplines, which has composed the curriculum of Programs recognized by CAPES at 2004. The context of the research in SCI presents the Post-Graduated Programs, beyond the academic and institutional spaces that reflect and produce knowledge in SCI. The theoretical referee is based on literature about the SCI field constitution, its interfaces, beyond the structure and documents of post-graduation in Brazil. It is an exploratory study, divided in two stages, using as methodology the technique of content analysis. The results have pointed, in relation to the Research Lines, that the SCI Post-Graduation presents three thematic sources: management, organization, and transference. In general, the Lines organization seems pertinent to the investigative trends of research, inside of SCI global perspective, and the approach of Social Information Paradigm. The research has identified interfaces between SCI and Administration, Communication, Computer Science and Sociology, and also with the traditional techniques and treatment of information phenomenon, Library Information Science and Documentation. The disciplines analysis concludes that the thematic also coincided, in part, with the SCI vision of system. The thematic trends have pointed the subjects of information access and use, cultural and social approaches of the informational phenomena, beyond the management and the knowledge in Social Sciences perspectives. The equitative distribution discipline between the thematic evidences the global approach of SCI, but can also means thematic dispersion, difficulting to concentrate subjects between disciplines and research lines, to delimit the borders of Science Information.

Natural disasters have always been part of the human lives, but in recent years due to growth of large urban centers, the difficulty of implementation and compliance of environmental preservation policies and increasing climate change, natural disasters are becoming common, and in the particular case of this study the damage caused by floods have affected populations beds near the water resources, causing material damage, deaths, disappearances, flagellates and homeless. To better understand the behavior of these extreme events and increase safety avoiding the lives loss and minimizing the economic losses that arise from these disasters, it is necessary to study the possible affected areas identifying the risk sites and quantifying the criticality of an event of great magnitude. Based on studies of past events, as the records of large floods, and using modern techniques of GPS positioning, digital image processing generated by satellites and thematic representation of capping geometry of these floods, we can play in these models events and quantify them with a good accuracy of its effects today. The simulation of these extreme events in a confident base model that available to bring the civil defense prior knowledge of the possible effects of an event this kind, which may be planned escape routes and mitigating actions minimizing loss of life and large economic losses. The same models also serve as analysis impact tool and planning for improvement of the master plan for social development, economic, environmental and research in the academic area. The models presented cover only a small part of the possibility that a work like this enables on research area. Thematic maps with contour lines, medium flood recorded, for environmental conservation area bordering the river and the map of the regions where the extreme event of 41 hit, are available for free use.

Previous issue date: 2012-03-16 / The present study aimed to: a) Characterize a sample of adolescents participating in social projects of an Institution in the coast of Sao Paulo, b) Investigate the aspects of the structure and dynamics of adolescents from single parent families, conventional families and other family settings c) Understand the relationships established with parental figures for adolescents belonging to these different family organizations. To this end, initially a characterization of the profile of these adolescents was carried out and, subsequently, six cases of adolescents aged 12 to 18 years participating of Social Projects of the Third Sector (NGO) belonging to different forms of family organizations were studied. These teenagers were attended at the Institution where the data were collected. Semi -structured interviews and the Thematic Apperception Test were the instruments used. Overall, the results showed that adolescents from conventional families, that is, with father and mother within the family, were able to internalize the imago pattern in a more integrated way, and go through the adolescence in a more stable manner. The struggle to elaborate mourning is experienced, in tanden with the so-called "Normal Adolescence Syndrome". Youngsters representing families in which the father is not present, present defenses and anxieties characteristic of earlier stages of development. It is our conclusion that further studies are required to meet this demand, so that preventive work can create the conditions for good psychological development, enabling the passage through adolescence and achievement of adulthood in an integrated manner.

Dentists' perceptions of their professional roles in the context of referral decisions in Primary Dental Care in EnglandAllen, Zoe Elizabeth January 2018 (has links)
Background: Within Primary Dental Care (PDC), there is variation in dentists’ views about who should be treated in general dental practices and who should be referred to community dental services (CDSs), creating confusion about where patients can access dental care. Aims: This research aimed to explore the meanings which general dental practitioners (GDPs) and community dentists in England ascribe to their roles. It focused on why they make, accept or decline patient referrals within PDC. Methods: I conducted a configurative systematic review of literature about referrals within PDC in the UK. Data were synthesised using Critical Interpretive Synthesis. I interviewed ten GDPs and twelve community dentists working in England, covering topics informed by the systematic review. Transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis. Findings: Synthesising the literature showed that referral decisions were influenced by non-clinical factors including policies, financial contracts and dentists’ perceptions and values. Authors rarely reported directly from the perspective of primary care dentists. The interview study findings showed that the business of dentistry defined GDPs’ roles. Obscure rules and complex care systems underpinned community dentists’ roles. Participants depicted vulnerable people within ‘no man’s land’, situated between GDPs and community dentists. Vulnerable people included frail, older people, anxious and socially excluded adults, and children with high levels of disease. I identified three typologies of dentists. ‘Entrepreneurs’ felt no allegiance to the NHS and no obligation to treat vulnerable patients. ‘Altruistic carers’ cared for complex, deserving patients, rather than vulnerable patients. ‘Pragmatic carers’ accommodated some vulnerable patients but felt constrained from doing so by structural barriers. Conclusions: This study adds to our understanding of why dentists make, accept or decline referrals within PDC in England. It suggests that failure to resolve structural barriers or to consider dentists’ values will hinder attempts to reduce inequalities in access to PDC in England.
