A Cartografia Temática aplicada ao turismo e sua fruição no município de São Luiz do Paraitinga (SP) / The Thematic Cartography applied to tourism and its fruition in São Luiz do Paraitinga (SP)Munhoz, Juliana Colli 28 February 2014 (has links)
Cartography and tourism have in common the geographic space as an object of study. In summary, covering the elements and aspects existing in the natural and social landscapes. Developing tourism demands the social organization, provision in infrastructure and the use of financial resources to increment the tourism activity. To attend this requirement multiple methods and studies are applied, among them, the cartographic science. The information contained in the maps allow tourists and managers an overview of the geographical space consumed by tourism, since the process of research, projects, design, marketing, evaluation and even effecting a possible territorial reorganization. Especially in planning tasks, thematic mapping, observed by graphic representation, is a very useful instrument in many conceptions of tourism activities. Maps specific for tourism should apply the Graphic Semiology and avoid interference in communication. In this work, tourism was studied as a major point in the production of space in São Luiz do Paraitinga. Data, demographic, economic and infrastructure information were examined, focusing on cultural heritage. Also, the role of tourism in rural and natural areas development was analyzed. From this survey, coupled with the theoretical foundation attributed to thematic cartography and tourism, a set of relevant analytical maps of the study area was made. Overlapping and grouping these maps enabled the creation of a synthesis map, delimited and identified by the types of landscape. Thus, through critical viewing, was possible to identify the characteristics of areas appropriated for tourism and to underwrite a preliminary proposal for tourism zoning, with the aim of contributing to the enjoyment and tourism planning in the county.

Thematic Narrative of LGBT Faculty Members' Professional Identity and ActivismGall, Kathy Luanne Williamson 01 January 2018 (has links)
Over the past 20 years, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals have made progress in attaining the same basic civil rights as heterosexual individuals. As in other civil rights movements, the college campus has played an important role. The LGBT community participates in academic and campus life, and numerous colleges are developing and supporting an inclusive, safe, and respectful culture. However, bias and prejudice continue to occur. While researchers have studied the repercussions of prejudice, discrimination, and low evaluation scores for LGBT faculty, little research has been done to explore professional identity and activism in LGBT faculty at traditional 4-year universities. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore how the narratives of LGBT faculty at traditional 4-year universities inform the experience of professional identity and activism. Using social identity theory and the concept of activism as conceptual frameworks, 13 faculty from college campuses across the United States were interviewed. The data were analyzed using NVivo software and hand coding. Ten themes were identified: coming out, identity, gender fluidity, stigmatization, campus climate, blatant prejudice and discrimination, resources, advocacy, responsibility, and positive experiences. Participants described professional identity as being fused with their sexual and social identity and described activism as an obligation. The results of this study will be shared in the scholarly and professional communities to support civil rights, activism, and advocacy for the LBGT community on campuses. Future research is recommended regarding the struggles of coming/being out in the academic workplace, as well as activism for LGBT issues on college campuses.

The experience of physical activity in the recovery from fatigue syndrome. : A qualitative study on the experience of physical activity in the recovery from fatigue syndrome.Borgert, Susanne January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to describe the experience of physical activity in the recovery from fatigue syndrome. The study was based on a qualitative method in the form of thematic analysis. The data collection consisted of ten semi-structured interviews where the criteria consisted of all participants having been diagnosed with fatigue syndrome established and as well had recovered from it. Which meant that the participants were no longer on sick leave because of the disease. And that the participants also had used physical activity as an aid in their recovery. From the thematic analysis, four themes emerged that describe the experience linked to physical activity in the recovery. Acceptance of the course of the disease and in the recovery describes how the participants experience an acceptance towards the disease and which progresses throughout the recovery process. Balance between rest and activity describes how the participants find an inner balance and as well experience an increased sense of balance and control when they begin physical activity. Physical activity motivates well-being describes the motivation the participants experience with the help of physical activity. The last theme, the meeting with healthcare and its impact describes the participants meeting with healthcare and the help and care they experienced from the discovery of the disease and during the recovery period. The results show that when the individual finds an acceptance of the situation, they are more susceptible to commencing their recovery and when they find a balance in their state, the motivation to contribute with their own capacity helps to help the body recover. In the end, it is the individual himself who is the strongest driving force, but the result nevertheless demonstrates that they are in a great need of functioning communication and work of motivation in the health care sector.

連繫功能詞與主題推進教學對增進EFL低成就者的寫作連貫性之研究 / The improvement of coherence in EFL low achievers' writing through the instruction of cohesive devices and thematic progression林舒悠, Lin, Su Yu Unknown Date (has links)
As an indispensable element in English learning, writing instruction in Taiwan actually has been given through the analysis of grammar and sentence patterns. This however ignores another primary key to successful writing—coherence. Due to its obscurity, teachers and students both find it complicated to teach and acquire the ability to organize a written text logically and coherently. The current study investigated the possibility to improve the high school students’ writing by instructing them how to apply the coherence strategies to their writing—cohesive devices (CD) and thematic progression (TP). In this study, with the teaching schedule unaffected, the researcher’s 39 second-graders in one Taipei senior high school were first taught how to analyze the coherence of the reading passages in the textbooks. Then they were required to apply and examine CD and TP when writing. Two low achievers of these students were further selected to investigate their writing development by examining their written texts with CD and TP applied in writing conferences, having interviews with the researcher and keeping journals between classes and writing conferences.
Concluded from the quantitative and qualitative data collected, the results revealed that the two low-proficiency students were able to get high grades in the holistic writing performance and coherence of writing. They were meanwhile found to be able to apply the same categories of CD (reference, conjunction and reiteration) and types of TP (simple linear TP type and TP with a constant theme) as the ones used by the high-proficiency learners in previous studies. During the five-month study, the participants also cultivated the ability to focus more on content level and to revise properly in their writing with the help of CD and TP. Besides, since the participants held positive attitudes toward the learning of CD and TP, the researcher recommends that the combination of CD and TP should be integrated into the writing instruction in current normal English writing class in Taiwan to help students comprehend the abstract coherence and to improve their writing by analyzing CD and TP in the written texts.

<p>This dissertation is a study of the work of Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus). Born in Provence, France in 1503, this true "Renaissance man” (astrologer, doctor of medicine and translator) achieved fame with the publication of his Centuries or “Prophecies”. This work presents 10 centuries of quatrains – almost a thousand short poems of only four rhymed lines each. The first third was published in 1555, another third in 1557 and finally the ten Centuries all together, posthumously, in 1568. The present study concentrates on the first edition, consisting of the first 353 quatrains.</p><p>The main purpose of this thesis is to explore and analyse the language, the style and the genre of the Centuries, aspects rather neglected by the critics hitherto. The large number of quatrains analysed in detail provides a solid basis for accurately characterizing the distinctive features of the text. The methods applied are mainly quantitative and comparative.</p><p>Initially, a short presentation of Nostradamus’ life and work sketches in the background for the creation of the Centuries. The analysis of the poetic form illustrates the stylistic as well as linguistic consequences of the use of the quatrain: it is argued that the poetical structure of the text influences its language as well as its oracular genre. The language of the Centuries is quantitatively examined, first at the sentence level and then at the phrase level. In order to define its specific nature, comparisons are made with the language of other texts from the same period, i.e. the Délie by Maurice Scève and the Pantagrueline Pronostication by François Rabelais. The results demonstrate that the most prominent differences concern what may be referred to as Nostradamus’ strategy of omission, where the restrictive metrical form of the quatrain demands that he be sparing of words.</p><p>Thereafter, the dissertation concludes that the number of textual themes and motives of the Centuries is quite limited (war, catastrophe, government), the prodigy being identified as the general poetic topic that contributes to the coherence of the text. The close connection between the concepts of poetry and prophecy during the French Renaissance is well documented. It is thus suggested that the enigmatic, dark oeuvre of Nostradamus inspired several of the Pléiade poets, whose group that in many ways explored the oracular genre in the 1550s and 1560s. An exploratory study of experiences of parenting among a group of school-going adolescent mothers in a South African townshipNgabaza, Sisa January 2010 (has links)
This study explored adolescent girlsâ subjective experiences of being young mothers in school, focusing on their personal and interpersonal relationships within their social contexts. Participants included 15 young black mothers aged between 16 and 19 years from three high schools in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Conducted within a feminist social constructionist framework, the study adopted an exploratory qualitative structure. Data were collected through life histories that were analysed within a thematic narrative framework. The narratives revealed that the young mothers found motherhood challenging and overly disruptive of school. Although contexts of childcare emerged as pivotal in how young mothers balanced motherhood and schoolwork, these were also presented as characterised by notions of power and control. Because of the gendered nature of care work, the women who supported the young mothers with childcare dominated the mothering spheres. The schools were also experienced as controlled and regulated by authorities in ways that constrained the young mothersâ balancing of school and parenting. Equally constraining to a number of adolescent mothers were structural challenges, for example, parenting in spaces that lacked resources. These challenges were compounded by the immense stigma attached to adolescent motherhood. The study recommended that the Department of Education work closely with all the parties concerned in ensuring that pregnant learners benefit from the policy. It is necessary that educators are encouraged to shift attitudes so that communication with adolescent mothers is improved.

The complicated struggle to be a support : meanings of being a co-worker, supervisor and closely connected to a person developing burnoutEricson-Lidman, Eva January 2008 (has links)
The overall aim of this thesis is to illuminate meanings of being a co-worker, supervisor and closely connected to a person developing burnout, and to describe perceptions of signs preceding burnout. The thesis comprises four papers and is based on qualitative data. In papers I and II, the data material consisted of interviews with 15 female coworkers of a person developing burnout, in paper III, interviews with 12 supervisors to care providers suffering from burnout, and in paper IV, interviews on two occasions with 5 people closely connected to a person developing burnout. Thematic content analysis (I) and phenomenological-hermeneutic method (II, III, IV) was used to analyse/interpret the interview text. The findings show that the coworkers retrospectively recalled different signs preceding their workmate’s burnout. They describe that their workmate was struggling to manage alone and was showing self-sacrifice. Co-workers also describe that their workmates were struggling to achieve unattainable goals and were becoming distanced and isolated. Finally, the co-workers describe that their workmates were showing signs of falling apart (I). Meanings of being a female co-worker to a person developing burnout are struggling, on the one hand to understand and help the person with symptoms of burnout, and on the other to manage one’s own work. This burdensome situation means that the co-workers are filled with contradictory and frustrating feelings and when the workmate is finally sick-listed, troubled conscience arise in the coworkers (II). Meanings of being a supervisor for care providers suffering from burnout are struggling to help the care provider continue to work, but being responsible for the unit, the supervisors are forced to ensure that the work is carried out. As the situation proceeds, supervisors are trapped in a predicament, unable to help and feeling inadequate. When the care provider is sick-listed, feelings of self-blame arise. When the time comes for rehabilitation the supervisors are once again caught between conflicting demands in a seemingly impossible mission (III). Meanings of being closely connected to a person suffering from burnout are putting one’s life on hold in order to help the person, striving to stand by to the person developing burnout, regardless of one’s own needs. Those closely connected are saving the face of the person developing burnout in order to protect them from stress. As the situation proceeds, those closely connected carry the burden alone in this strained situation and sometimes they are treated with disrespect by the person developing burnout, a situation which reveals their own suffering. Striving to find recuperation engenders troubled conscience. This situation reveals a huge need for support for those closely connected to a person developing burnout (IV). The comprehensive understanding is that meanings of being a co-worker, supervisor and closely connected to a person developing burnout are, on the one hand, a complicated struggle to support the person and on the other to shoulder a heavy burden. They try to do everything they can to help and support the person developing burnout (II-IV), these attempts, however, do not seem to reach through (I-IV). Co-workers describe signs that something is the matter (I), but they (co-workers, supervisors and those closely connected) do not understand what is happening (IIIV). This burdensome situation is full of conflict for those involved, torn between the complicated struggle to support the person developing burnout and to manage this burdensome situation. Faced with their own shortcomings, troubled conscience arises. The comprehensive understanding of the four papers (I-IV) are discussed and reflected on with the help of social support theories and the ideas of the Danish philosopher Lögstrup’s thoughts about the ethical demand.
