Výběrové metody v lesnictví / Sampling methods in forestry

Hanek, Petr January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis is devoted to the sampling strategies in forestry. It describes their theoretical aspects and their applications on a real landscape. The sampling methods in forestry are of particular importance in forest inven- tory. The aim of sampling methods is to estimate population characteristics based on the knowledge of sample. Two basic approaches can be distinguished according to the size of population, we speak about discrete or continuous population. Several types of sampling designs and corresponding estimators of target values are described for both approaches. Besides estimates of po- pulation total or average, we mention the formulas for computing variance of these estimates and the methods for their estimation for different sampling designs. The thesis also contains the comparison of studied methods based on computer simulations.

Tidig Ozu / Sen Ozu : En jämförande stilanalys av A Story of Floating Weeds och Floating Weeds

Toresson, Fredrik January 2005 (has links)

The dystopia between a universal "Empire of meaning" and local contexts : a study of humanity, UN dominance and the interaction process of sensemaking

Markström Lindgren, Kajsa January 2015 (has links)
There seems to be a gap between human rights theory and human rights practice. This gap disables rights to be applicable in practice in a meaningful manner. By theorizing this gap with Neil Thompson’s theory of “thinking” and “doing” while shedding light to this gap with a postmodern flashlight, the study shows that the concepts of human rights, human dignity, culture and ideology are in need to be addressed and added to this discourse and certainly to the overall discourse of human rights. A way of doing this is to make rights in the vernacular, as Sally Engle Merry suggests. What will be the consequences of vernacular rights? What is needed is thus to translate universal values into local contexts by acknowledging the cultural dimension of rights and to learning through experience.

Taking into consideration the important contribution of literary and cultural studies to the deepening of debate about North-American detective narratives, this study intends to assemble singularities, disconnections and contemporary masculinity issues associated with hard-boiled literature, aiming to substantiate an investigation of its influence in Rubem Fonseca‘s work. In order to do so, we take as a starting point the studies of hegemonic masculinities, by R.W. Connell and her commentators, and the analysis of three of the genre‘s founding fathers, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler and Jim Thompson. Considering the foundation of North-American detective novel, four works which has Mandrake as its main character will be analyzed : ―O Caso F.A‖, ―Dia dos Namorados‖, ―Mandrake‖ and the novel A Grande Arte. Seeking to observe how the author utilizes the hard-boiled tradition and its implications in masculinities issues in order to create a work of enormous critical, stylistic and political potency.

Algorithmic and Ethical Aspects of Recommender Systems in e-Commerce

Paraschakis, Dimitris January 2018 (has links)
Recommender systems have become an integral part of virtually every e-commerce application on the web. These systems enable users to quickly discover relevant products, at the same time increasing business value. Over the past decades, recommender systems have been modeled using numerous machine learning techniques. However, the adoptability of these models by commercial applications remains unclear. We assess the receptiveness of the industrial sector to algorithmic contributions of the research community by surveying more than 30 e-commerce platforms, and experimenting with various recommenders on proprietary e-commerce datasets. Another overlooked but important factor that complicates the design and use of recommender systems is their ethical implications. We identify and summarize these issues in our ethical recommendation framework, which also enables users to control sensitive moral aspects of recommendations via the proposed “ethical toolbox”. The feasibility of this tool is supported by the results of our user study. Because of moral implications associated with user profiling, we investigate algorithms capable of generating user-agnostic recommendations. We propose an ensemble learning scheme based on Thompson Sampling bandit policy, which models arms as base recommendation functions. We show how to adapt this algorithm to realistic situations when neither arm availability nor reward stationarity is guaranteed.

Silvanus Phillips Thompson e a desmistificação do cálculo: resgatando uma história esquecida

Thompson was concerned about Physics and Radiology, however, at the dawn of the new century, his interests in technical education had also burgeoned. One of his goals was to demystify Calculus, tackling the subject intuitively Calculus Made Easy.

Martel, François January 2015 (has links)
Abstract : This thesis is a comment and a transcript of a tape recorded performance of the collective creation Chenier’s Children in Another Great Farewell Show that was presented from September 23 to October 11 in 1969. The show was created from the canvas and the stage directions of Jean-Claude Germain. It also took its source in the improvisations of comedians Louisette Dussault, Nicole Leblanc, Monique Rioux, Gilles Renaud and Jean-Luc Bastien. Not much documentation survived after a brief series of performances of this show except an audio tape and a few newspaper critics. However, in the Nouveau Théâtre québécois (1973), Michel Bélair states that the Farewell Show is a turning point in the evolution of Quebecois theatre. In order to clarify the role of this play in the evolution of Quebec’s theatre, we first situate it in the sociocultural context of Quebec between 1965 and 1970. A binary comparison between the Farewell Show and The Farm Show (Theatre Passe Muraille) as proposed by Philip Stratford will demonstrate afterward that the Farewell Show influenced the development of English Canadian theatre at the time. Moreover, one of the objectives of this thesis is to offer the first transcript of a performance of the Farewell Show recorded by Réginald Hamel in 1969. This transcript is created according to a transcription methodology developed from two fields of study – theatre and anthropology.
