Amplitude das emissões otoacústicas por produto de distorção em motociclistas normo-ouvintes / Amplitude of the distortion product otoacoustic emissions in normo-listeners motorcyclists

Liscia Lamenha Apolinario Ferreira 10 May 2005 (has links)
Estes incrementos precedem as alterações na audiometria tonal liminar e a ausência ou diminuição na amplitude das EOAEPD / Introduction: The motorcyclists are exposed as much to the environmental noise as to the noise generated by the own motorcycle. Such exposition to noise can provoke lesions in the internal ear and the registration of the distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) can evidence the alterations in a precocious way. Objective: To verify the variations of the amplitudes of the otoacoustic emissions evoked by distortion product in the postmen normo-listeners motorcyclists\' in agreement with the time of exposition to noise and to analyze with normo-listeners workers not exposed to occupational noise. Method: Hundred and forty-eight normo-listeners workers has been evaluated, distributed into four groups: group I - exposed to a smaller noise equivalent to two years noise-exposition; group II - equivalent to more than two years exposition and less than five years; group III - larger or equal to five years exposition; and the group IV - workers not exposed to noise being assigned to the control group. All selecioned workers were submitted to DPOAEs registration. Results: The group I presented higher amplitudes for 7250 Hz and 5128 Hz frequencies (p < 0.05), in comparison with the groups II, III and IV. The lowest values of DPOAEs amplitudes were observed in the control group (group IV), being statistically significantive for frequencies between 5128 Hz and 2588 Hz (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results suggest that early monitoring of the exposition to occupational noise, through the distortion product otoacoustic emissions, makes possible the detection of precocious physiopathologic alterations of the internal ear due to the presence of increments in the amplitude registration of the DPOAEs. These increments precede the alterations in the preliminary tonal audiometry and the absence or decrease in the amplitude of the DPOAEs

Tone mapping reverso de alta qualidade para uma ampla gama de exposições / High-quality reverse tone mapping for awide range of exposures

Kovaleski, Rafael Pacheco January 2013 (has links)
Reverse tone mapping operators (rTMOs) enhance low-dynamic-range images and videos for display on high dynamic range monitors. A common problem faced by previous rTMOs is the handling of under or overexposed content. Under such conditions, they may not be effective, and even cause loss and reversal of visible contrast. We present a class of local rTMOs based on cross bilateral filtering that is capable of generating highquality HDR images and videos for a wide range of exposure conditions. Experiments performed using an objective image quality metric show that our approach is the only single technique available that can gracefully enhance perceived details across a large range of image exposures.

Relação da consistência e da ecogenicidade testicular com a morfologia espermática em suínos / Relationship of testicular consistency and echogenicity with sperm morphology in boars

Paschoal, Aline Fernanda Lopes January 2017 (has links)
Sperm morphology is an important cause of male culling in boar studs and if early detected may lead to a reduction on costs of exceeded males. The study aimed to evaluate the possibility for using testicular traits (testicular consistency by manual palpation and consistency by tonometry – tone, echogenicity by ultrasonography - pixels and heterogeneity of the echogenicity – pixels) on the identification of boars with high sperm morphology quality. Sperm evaluation was used as criteria for breeding soundness, being considered as satisfactory boars with less than 20% of total sperm abnormalities, with an upper limit of 5% head, acrosome, neck and mid piece defects and 10% of tail (coiled and bent) e proximal cytoplasmic droplet. The percentage of satisfactory boars was 71.9%. Tone was positively correlated (P≤ 0.05) with consistency by manual palpation (r= 0.64). Testicular heterogeneity was weakly correlated (P≤ 0.05) with echogenicity (r= 0.39) and with percentage of sperm abnormalities (r= 0.11). It was compared the values of testicular traits between satisfactory and unsatisfactory boars, and a lower mean of tone was found on satisfactory boars (P= 0.04). The possible association of testicular traits with the percentage of sperm defects was analyzed by logistic regression, including the traits (consistency by manual palpation, tone, echogenicity and heterogeneity) as continuous and categorical variables. Considering the values obtained, 4 classes were created for consistency by manual palpation and tone and 5 classes were created for echogenicity and heterogeneity of the testicular parenchyma. It was obtained a cut-off value of 5.03mm, based on testicular tone, to discriminate satisfactory and unsatisfactory boars and higher values of tone (as continuous variable) decreased the chance of boars to be satisfactory, however with low discriminatory power (AUC= 0.66). The probability of occurrence of satisfactory boars tended to be lower on class 4 of tone (P= 0.07). Lower values of tone are associated with higher percentage of sperm normality, contributing to the identification of boars with high sperm quality.

A música de Hermeto Pascoal uma abordagem semiótica / The Hermeto Pascoal´s music: a semiotic approach

Arrais, Marcos Augusto Galvao 25 September 2006 (has links)
This study analyzed the construction process of meaning of the musical language of Hermeto Paschoal\'s instrumental music using the A.J. Greimas\' semiotics theory. The evaluation of instrumental music using Greima\'s semiotic approach raises many theorical questions regarding the possibility of a defined meaning on the plan of expression, as well as the definition of meaning by itself, which we tried to develop. According to direction that we followed, we tried to verify the possibilities and limits when the Semiotic Theory is applied to abstract languages, such as the musical language. Besides the theoric issues, we faced the challenge of investigating the intriguing Hermeto Paschoal\'s music, which may be considerably complex, but on the other hand is an extremely rich object to be evaluated considering the composer\'s ability to convert to music any sound, and to incessantly create music varying all parameters such as volume duration, intensity and timbre. Furthermore, the study of Hermeto Paschoal\'s music is valuable not only because of the esthetic quality, but also due to its remarkable importance for the Brazilian culture and the International musical scenario. Although our aim is to investigate the issues related to the expression field and to study the Semiotic Theory applied to the musical language, we more simply attempted to focus and comprehend the meaning of Hermeto Paschoal\'s music and confirm the evidence that the sounds created on the instrumental music have a meaning

The contribution of frequency-specific temporal envelope and periodicity components for Cantonese lexical tone recognition in normal hearing and hearing-impaired listeners. / 各頻率波段特有的時域包絡及週期性的成分在正常聽力人士及聽障人士對詞匯聲調辨認所作出的貢獻 / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Ge pin lu bo duan te you de shi yu bao luo ji zhou qi xing de cheng fen zai zheng chang ting li ren shi ji ting zhang ren shi dui ci hui sheng diao bian ren suo zuo chu de gong xian

January 2009 (has links)
Temporal envelope and periodicity components (TEPC) offer robust cues for speech recognition, even spectral information in the speech signal are not readily available. Many previous studies investigated the contribution of TEPC on speech recognition in English, but very few of them investigated the contribution of TEPC on tonal language and particularly on lexical tone recognition. Lexical tones encode lexical and grammatical meanings of words in tonal languages, and are essentially represented by the fundamental frequency and its low-order harmonics. Listeners with cochlear hearing loss have reduced frequency selectivity, causing much broader auditory filters than normal hearing listeners. Spectral cues in the speech signal are much reduced and hearing-impaired listeners have to rely more on TEPC for speech understanding. TEPC extracted from different frequency regions do not necessarily contribute equally for speech recognition. These frequency-specific TEPC contributions vary among different types of speech materials. Such investigation has not been conducted thoroughly for lexical tone yet. / This high frequency TEPC advantage maintained in conditions where the TEPC were carried in noise bands sharing the same frequency region as the frequency region where the TPEC were extracted, or in conditions where TEPC extracted from different frequency regions were carried by fixed high frequency noise bands, even when only a single noise band was used as the carrier. Consistent results were obtained using different lexical tone testing materials. TEPC extracted from the male voice than the female one consistently yielded better performance. Although hearing-impaired listeners performed not as good as their normal hearing peers, they were able to utilize the available TEPC information significantly particularly when TEPC from high frequencies were available. The high frequency TEPC advantage can be explained by the bandwidth of the carrier. Certain critical TEPC modulations for lexical tone recognition are believed to reside only in the high frequency regions but not the low frequency ones. Signal processing methods that can preserve or enhance TEPC in the high frequency regions in the speech signal may improve lexical tone recognition or even overall speech recognition of hearing-impaired listeners. / This research project was aimed at investigating the contribution of TEPC for lexical tone recognition in Cantonese which is a tonal language widely spoken in Chinese communities around the world. By comparing the contributions of TEPC extracted from different frequency regions on lexical tone recognition from a series of experiments, TEPC from high frequency regions always outperformed those from the low frequency regions, based on group analysis on closed-set corrected rationalized arcsine transformed scores, percentage of information transmission, and multidimensional scaling analysis; and on individual subject analysis on binomial distribution of proportion correct scores. / Yuen, Chi Pun. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 70-09, Section: B, page: . / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2009. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 255-262). / Electronic reproduction. A perceptual study on linearly approximated F0 contours in Cantonese speech. / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection / Digital dissertation consortium

January 2011 (has links)
Approximation of F0 contours in Cantonese speech is investigated. Multiple approximations are examined and evaluated. The modified speech utterances that carry the approximated contours at syllable, word and sentence levels are perceptually examined with reference to natural speech. It is found that linear approximation can adequately describe all perception-sensitive F0 variations in Cantonese speech. Each tone contour can be represented by one or two linear movements, and the transition between co-articulated tones can be represented by one linear movement. / F0 contours measured from human speech (observed contours) generally vary to a considerable extent. This research attempts to investigate perception-critical variations in these highly varying contours. In particular, F0 contours in Cantonese speech are concerned. Cantonese is a major Chinese dialect that is known of being rich in tones. Psychoacoustic findings suggest that human perception has limitations in perceiving pitch movements. This means that not all of the variations in the observed contours are perceivable. A major problem addressed in this study is to find the simplest acoustic representation of an observed F0 contour that is adequate to attain comparable perception with the natural speech. / F0 variation in speech is known to carry abundant information, both linguistic and paralinguistic. Its impact on speech communication is thus widely concerned. F0 variation in speech, being a major super-segmental acoustic feature, has received a lot of attention, particularly from the perspectives of production-acoustics and perception-acoustics. However, it is noted that perception-acoustic knowledge of F0 variation in association with speech naturalness is quite limited. This is especially the case in the studies of tonal languages, in which most efforts are made on acoustic cues related to tone identification. / The feasibility of using linear approximation greatly simplifies the way to understand and interpret F0 variations in speech processing, by the means of learning the properties of linear movements. Three steps of analysis are carried out on the generated linear approximations. The first one examines the movement slopes in the approximated F0 contours of isolated syllables, in comparison with the perceptual thresholds found in the psychoacoustic studies. The second analysis is performed over a set of linearly approximated F0 contours of polysyllabic Cantonese words. The determining attributes of these linear movements, i.e., movement slopes, movement heights and time locations of turning points are analyzed statistically. The last analysis concerns the evaluation of modified F0 contours. Objective evaluations are compared with perceptual evaluation. These analyses provide knowledge which can improve our understanding on how F0 variations are processed in speech path. / To explore the potentials oflinear approximation in research of speech prosody, a perception-oriented framework of automatic approximation is developed, so as to replace the manual process in the feasibility study. The framework aims to make the process of deriving approximations standardized, consistent and efficient. It is formulated based on the experiences from manual approximations and is also implemented with other perceptual findings. The initial test on polysyllabic words gives promising results. / Li, Yujia. / Adviser: Tan Lee. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 73-04, Section: B, page: . / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2011. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 161-170). / Electronic reproduction. / In this phd thesis is analyzed the morphophonology of Standard Chinese, in an attempt to transpose the CVCV theory, a post-generative phonological model.Part 1 situates the analyses in their historical context, in order to understand the state of the art resultingfrom internal and external conditions to the science and to put into perspective Part 2, dedicated to the phonological studies themself.Part 2 proposes adopting a deductive approach to unify the explanation of many phenomena in StandardChinese in phonology (syllable), tonology (representation tone, tone sandhi, neutral tone) and morphology(composition, reduplication), previously treated separately, in isolation and in different frameworks, while remaining economical and coherent, with the same theoretical tool: the CVCV theory.
