Conflict Prevention and Management (CPM) System in Transdisciplinary Research Collaborations

Löhr, Katharina 10 August 2018 (has links)
Recognizing that no single discipline or institute alone can find solutions to global challenges, a shift toward interconnected and global research approaches is occurring, thus increasing the number of collaborative research initiatives applying inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches. This is mirrored not just in the global development agenda (Agenda 2030) but also in the funding policies of national and international public funding bodies. While there is awareness for the grand challenges and institutional structures facilitating joint action, little attention is given to the operational details. However, this is essential, as research collaborations in sustainable development are complex organizational settings prone to conflict, made up of diverse members from multiple countries, institutions, and disciplines. To prevent destructive conflict, including complete project failure, research on collaborative team work, as well as tools to facilitate collaboration and project success, is needed. Effectively functioning projects can find solutions to grand societal challenges. Thus, the objective of this dissertation is to facilitate the operational functioning of transdisciplinary research projects by analyzing the design and effects of a conflict management system in such a research environment. Because it exemplifies the complexity of collaborative research projects, a transdisciplinary research project on food security serves as the case study. This dissertation not only helps close the knowledge gap on how transdisciplinary research projects operate, but it also advances research on conflict management systems by transferring the approach to a new type of organization.

The possibilities and tensions that permeate the Integrated Education in Technical Course in Agropecuária IFRS, Campus Sertão, constitute the object of this study, in order to better understand its implementation and development. In a school context historically marked by alternate ways to develop the professional middle-level education, sometimes concurrent, sometimes integrated, we investigated whether the Integrated Education contributes to better vocational training students of education. For this we collect the opinion of teachers, administrative staff and students, comparing the two types of course happening on campus: the Headquarters Unit, writh presence, focusing on Traditional Agropecuária and the Polo Pontão Unit, writh Pedagogy of Alternation with emphasis on Agroecology. Through an examination between two modes of curricular achievement was possible to notice that rare moments of discussion and planning had the chance in the development and implementation of Integrated syllabus in both contexts, motivated mainly because the proposal wasn’t Born of the collective will of the school community, but by administrative guidance to the Federal Network. Many authors have enriched the study and analysis about Integrated Syllabus, as Basil Bernstein, Boaventura de Sousa Santos, James Beane, Edgar Morin, Maria Isabel da Cunha, Maria Ciavatta, Antonio Nóvoa and MauriceTardif and warned about the importance of continuous reflection on the organization of syllabuses, teaching activities, everybody availability necessary for collective planning, including the renewed discussion of methodologies to teach and to integrate value and appreciation of the students . To better know the data, we established three organizational dimensions : personal and subjective conditions of those involved; conditions of professionalism and knowledge and the conditions of structuring and organization of work. We admited that the process student’s formation pass by teacher training and there is, in this context, need for appreciation of scientific knowledge and knowledge of common sense, including an ongoing dialogue among teachers, students and the sociocultural reality. We believe that education presupposes autonomous learning including aspects of intellectual, emotional and moral. We admited that the syllabus isn’t only a contents list, but a process of constant tensions and doings. Therefore, changing the syllabus proposal involves considering the conception of knowledge involved. In the study, it was motived that although there is successful interdisciplinary practices in both situations investigated, the Pedagogy of Alternation favors the achievement of better results in integrated curricular activities, especially the most intense relationship of students with professional practices in time Community. There's conscience, part of the most of informers, that the Integrated Syllabus effectively articulates and produces new knowledge, gives opportunity to associate previous knowledge and appreciation of students' experiences, avoids overlapping contents, and encourages the student to think, because closer theory and practice leads to better training of students. However recognize that there are epistemological and structural difficulties in its implementation and would be required an institutional investment for its implementation.

It has been financed by the Centre of Education in partnership with the Coordination of Personal Improvement of Superior Level (CAPES) and with the National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP). The aim is to analyse by method transdisciplinar of research how PROUNI can promote social inclusion of students from low rent. This study contextualize the brazilians educational policies and the means of concept of social inclusion by access to higher education, advocated by the PROUNI. There is the revision of the theories and visions of the studies of the transdisciplinary in order to sustain method of research that is capable of catch and understand the perceptions, impressions, expectations and anxieties of the scholarships about the personal and professional changes offered by the PROUNI. In the research, there are references to documents and laws of the federal government, and to the authors of the areas of education, social policies, inclusion/exclusion and transdisciplinary. It has been carried focal group of discussions with the scholarships of PROUNI, in the city of São Paulo. The analysis of the focal groups s content has been through by the organisation of analytical categories: a) Accessibility and Inclusion/ Social Exclusion; b) Social Advancement (personal and professional); c) Prejudice and stigma; d) Social assistance and support to the Learning; e) Disability of Public Education and Reform of the Education system. The scholarships valid the educational policy of the federal government, however, understand that the aim of social inclusion is not carried out in full once again because many young people and adults are still without conditions means to enter in the university. The relationship between inclusion and social exclusion is still to be reproduced in the social coexistence of students and teachers, in the educational institutions that have joined the PROUNI / Este estudo está articulado ao projeto de pesquisa de âmbito nacional Programa Universidade Para Todos PROUNI e Inclusão Social , desenvolvido, no período de 2007 a 2010, pelo Núcleo de Estudo Pesquisa sobre Ensino e Questões Metodológicas (NEMESS) da Pós-Graduação de Serviço Social da PUCSP.

Emergent selves, emergent lives: the role of curriculum in the identity development of undergraduate students : a narrative phenomenological study

Sheppard, Janet 07 May 2010 (has links)
The present study examined the self-learning experiences of 12 university students nearing graduation in order to understand the role of curriculum in the development of identity. This inquiry was conducted as a narrative study within a systems theory framework to examine the factors influencing higher education. The study used two rounds of open-ended interviews, separated by a researcher-created interpretation of participants‘ stories so that students could confirm their experiences and contextual influences. These included familial, cultural, and social factors. Phenomenological analysis revealed a process of repeating cycles of Disorientation and Reorientation in participants‘ self-learning experiences. Sites of learning included predominantly Expectations/Experiences and Learning to Manage Relationships. A directional theme of Seeking/Finding Fit appeared in areas such as Discipline, Program Fit, and Career. This trajectory showed distinct patterns of engagement, both in learning and social and community settings. Findings suggest that experiences outside the classroom contributed most powerfully to self-learning. Results indicate a lack of awareness of personal values or their role in finding disciplinary or career preference, and a lack of understanding of the ways students could apply their academic and self-learning to the world beyond post-secondary education. Opportunities for critical self-reflection appeared to contribute to the development of insight and self-awareness, but few opportunities occurred in classroom learning experiences. While all participants could be described as academically successful, a strong relationship between academic performance and self-knowledge was not apparent. The findings suggest that certain curriculum strategies encourage identity development in undergraduate students. These strategies use integrated, experiential learning with opportunities for self-reflection, and include interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.

Exploration de la performance de la gouvernance des petites pêcheries du Pacifique Sud par une démarche de recherche-action / Exploration of the performance of the governance of small-scale fisheries in the South Pacific through action research

Léopold, Marc 22 June 2018 (has links)
This work is a contribution for elaborating a research framework for the study of institutional development for the comanagement of common fishery resources. Indeed this governance mode is marginally being used worldwide despite its positive impacts that have been proved in a large number of concrete cases.Specifically the thesis examines the performance of the governance of small-scale fishery through an empirical and inductive approach of institutional economics. Our action research framework guided interventions of public fishery policy on the management of overexploited marine resources in several case studies in New Caledonia and Vanuatu (South Pacific) between 2008 and 2016.Those cases corresponded to different contexts and temporal and spatial scales. The thesis is supported i) by a theoretical causal model of the effects of this kind of intervention on institutional change in smallscale fisheries, and ii) by an evaluation grid of the dynamics of institutional development in the case studies. It analytically and practically explores the process of adaptive experimentation of co-management development in reallife conditions. Academic and non academic knowledge on small-scale fisheries and the learning through shared governance is mobilized. Results show that spatial, multi-scale management of reef fisheries through temporary openings and closures of fishing is a way to combine community-based management and government intervention that is relevant for a number of single- and multi-species fisheries in the South Pacific. Four key processes that drive the economic performance of fishery co-management regimes are highlighted, namely individual learning of systemic processes, collective learning, homogenization of actors’ strategies, and building of capacity for action. These processes are interdependent following their own temporality in response to multiple stresses and fishery contingencies, that determine the initial conditions of the interventions in particular. By explicitly taking into account sustainability problems of smallscale fisheries at both the national and the local, operational levels, our researchframework proposes truly transdisciplinary research guidelines on the co-management of small-scale fisheries and on its capacity for addressing sustainability challenges more efficiently.

The neglected child of sustainability education

Kronenberg, Johannes, Laukkanen, Anastasia, Fischer, Théodore January 2018 (has links)
Since 1970s neoclassical economics has been identified as a major obstacle for reaching sustainability. Despite the world's growing attention to sustainability education, there has been just few attempts to assess the content and the competency building of sustainable development (SD) postgraduate programs. None has been evaluating if and how economics is integrated in such curricula. This study fills this gap in the empirical research by conducting a novel assessment of six leading SD transdisciplinary master programs in Sweden. Our study uses a qualitative approach to inquire how these programs teach students to understand, challenge and reorient dominant neoclassical economics and the reasoning behind it. Results revealed that the absence of an agreed-upon definition of both the economy and sustainability lead to the wide range of approaches on how to introduce the place and the role of the economy. Every program relies on their own understanding, perspectives and resourcefulness, while agreeing that their teaching should challenge neoclassical economics and engage their students in the various scales of system change. Yet, the time allocated to economics teaching does not exceed 8% of the programs ECTS. We argue that economics should take a much bigger place in postgraduate SD education. A proposed “transdisciplinary economics” calls for more collaboration with students, academia and outside of academia in a joint search for economic alternatives.

Ecrit de recherche universitaire : éléments pour une sensibilisation au positionnement scientifique à travers la phraséologie transdisciplinaire / Academic writing : elements for a scientific positioning awareness through transdisciplinary phraseology

Mroue, Mariam 23 October 2014 (has links)
This research formulates some thoughts that are essential to initiate students, non native speakers, to academic writing and help in mastering it. Several questions have guided this study : What role might have the descriptive studies of scientific writing in a successful familiarization with academic writing? What is the point of an introduction to rhetorical functions based on transdisciplinary phraseology and on a so-called genre approach? Is it possible to submit support elements that would be beneficial to all students regardless of their disciplines? An exploratory study of a particular rhetorical function that is "positioning" has allowed us to understand the extent to which linguistic elements, namely transdisciplinary collocations could help students to less apprehend the requirement of an essentially polyphonic and argumentative writing or to further show their positioning in their academic writings.

Description de la phraséologie transdisciplinaire des écrits scientifiques et réflexions didactiques pour l'enseignement à des étudiants non-natifs : application aux marqueurs discursifs / Description of the scientific transdisciplinary phraseology and didactic considerations for teaching non-native students : application to discourse markers

Tran, Thi Thu Hoai 11 December 2014 (has links)
This thesis proposes a new approach to scientific writings which takes discourse markers as starting point. It is part of the framework of French for Academic Purposes. In this work, we are particularly interested in multi-word discourse markers and we integrate them into a broader concept of phraseology. The particularity of this work lies in linking linguistic descriptions of discourse markers and didactic transposition of these tokens with a corpus, which is still little discussed in the didactic francophone field. We aim to meet two main objectives of linguistic and didactic nature. The linguistic objectives are to set up a model for analyzing multi-word discourse markers that combines both syntactic and semantic properties and is totally reconfigurable to other discourse markers. Linguistic analyses will then be used for the teaching/learning of these units. For didactic purposes, this research aims to develop a methodology for teaching/learning discourse markers from the observation of the corpus. Methodological considerations proposed in the framework of the thesis provide attractive ways for teaching/learning these language elements and for making access to the academic writings easier to non-native students.

Strategic Leadership towards Sustainable Public Procurement

Nekeman, Iris, Straver, Roy, Tobón, Francisco January 2018 (has links)
The understanding of the role of the contracting authority in public procurement is important to understand the underused potential of public procurement to contribute to the sustainable development of society. In particular, the concept of public-private cooperation was suggested to increase this potential, but not enough is known about how the interaction has to take place in order to address the behavioural factors that cause the barriers to sustainable public procurement. The results of this research showed that the leading role of the contracting authority could facilitate sustainable procurement by increasing engagement, interaction and collaboration. A strategic planning approach to support the public-private cooperation in the procurement process is needed. Based on the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development, a support for the contracting authority was designed to guide the strategic planning of the procurement process. The suggested design of Support for Strategic Sustainable Procurement was evaluated and found likely to support the contracting authority in strategically leading the public procurement process to leverage the potential of public procurement on the transition towards a sustainable society.

Analyse des relations entre concepts scientifiques et structure rhétorique dans des articles de recherche appartenant à un champ disciplinaire des Sciences de l’éducation / Analysis of relationships between scientific concepts and rhetorical structure in research articles belonging to a disciplinary field of Education sciences

Ait Saidi, Salima 02 December 2015 (has links)
Sándor, A. Kaplan, G. Randeau, 2006, D. Siepman, 2007, A. Tutin, 2007-2010), robust parsing (S. Aït-Mokhtar, J. Chanod, R. Roux, 2002). / Our research focuses on two interrelated objectives. The first one aims at providing assistance to the evaluation of scientific writings because of; the numbers of publication, which keep on rising, the boundaries between the areas become and it's becoming more and more difficult to find relevant publications so as the practical need for assessments is appearing as unavoidable. We also have to find new ways to help the evaluation of the research work, through a wide range of indications different from those usually used for research assessment, notably, through the identification of the research problem. These indications that announce the formulation of the research problem in scientific articles can be identified as "speech formulas." Our research does not extend to the formulation of the scientific problem because of the complexity of this concept and the difficulty of defining it from the point of view of information extraction. We propose a model of the speech forms that we have integrated into the parser Xerox Incremental Parser (XIP) in pattern recognition rules. We used a corpus of Educational Sciences Research articles from the Scientext corpus to detect these speeches formulas. The choice of field is motivated by my participation in the European project EERQI which aims to strengthen and enhance the worldwide visibility and competitiveness of European research in education. Different methodological approaches were adopted to perform a fine linguistic study of these formulas as: discourse analysis (Mr. Pecman, 2004, K. Hyland, 2005, Á, Sándor A. Kaplan, G. Randeau, 2006, D. Siepman, 2007, A. Tutin, 2007-2010), robust parsing (S. Aït-Mokhtar, J. Chanod, R. Roux, 2002). Thus, the goal is to implement an applicative approach aiming at helping expert reading through the identification, typology and functioning of lexical associations which convey the research problem.
