Recent Trends in Sepsis Mortality, Associations between Initial Source of Sepsis and Hospital Mortality, and Predictors of Sepsis Readmission in Sepsis Survivors

Motzkus, Christine 12 April 2017 (has links)
Background: Sepsis, a leading cause of US deaths, is associated with high mortality, although advances in early recognition and treatment have increased survivorship. Many aspects of sepsis pathophysiology and epidemiology have not been fully elucidated; the heterogeneous nature of infections that lead to sepsis has made fully characterizing the underlying epidemiology challenging. Methods: The University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) from 2011-2014 and the Cerner HealthFacts® database from 2008-2014 were used. We examined associations between infection source and in-hospital mortality in the UHC dataset, stratified by age and presenting sepsis stage. We examined recent temporal trends in present-on-admission (POA) sepsis diagnoses and mortality and predictors of 30-day sepsis readmissions following sepsis hospitalizations using the HealthFacts® dataset. Results: Patients with sepsis due to genitourinary or skin, soft tissue, or bone sources had lower mortality than patients with sepsis due to respiratory sources regardless of age or presenting sepsis stage. Overall diagnoses of sepsis increased from 2008-2014; however, POA diagnoses and case fatality rates decreased. Factors that predicted re-hospitalization for sepsis included discharge to hospice, admission from or discharge to a skilled nursing facility, and abdominal infection. Conclusion: Further investigation will reveal more detail to explain the impact of infection source on in-hospital sepsis mortality for all age groups and sepsis stages. Decreasing mortality rates for all POA sepsis stages and all age groups suggest current approaches to sepsis management are having broad impact. Sepsis survivors are at significant risk for re-hospitalization; further studies are needed to understand the post discharge risks and needs of survivors.

Dendrokronologisk undersökning av Quercus sp. och Pinus sylvestris i nationalparken Blå Jungfrun / Dendrochronological examination of Quercus sp. and Pinus sylvestris in the National Park Blue Maiden

Haraldsson, Jesper January 2019 (has links)
This study involved a dendrochronological examination of oak (Qeurcus.sp) and Scots pine (Pinus.sylvestris) in the nationalpark Blå Jungfrun, by measuring annual ringwidth data from tree-cores from the island, data from the national forest inventory and climatedata from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). Using the analysis program Windendro an annual ringwidth analysis was performed. Trends that occured were that pine respondend more to precipitation than temperature and that oak respondend more to temperature. Ringwidth were higher for Scots pine than oak and for both species lower than on the mainland.

Vliv současných trendů na determinanty sportovního výkonu v triatlonu / The influence of the current trends on the determinants of sports performance in triathlon

Červenka, Lukáš January 2021 (has links)
Name: The influence of the current trends on the determinants of sports performance in triathlon. Aim: Main aim of the diploma thesis was to find out the influences of current trends in triathlon and how they can influence the determinants of a sports performance and predict in which direction the triathlon will go in the future. Methods: According the historical method by Hroch it was used to determine the historical context. The results were properly interpreted in the context of a problem definition, data collection and analysis based on inductive- deductive reasoning. The research deals with the search, processing, and analysis of data for various types of triathlons within the International Triathlon Union (ITU). The results from several selected triathlon races of the world championship are also analyzed, from the shortest format (super sprint) to the longest, which is a long triathlon (Ironman). The research also included an interview with an employee of the Commission of the International Triathlon Union (triathlon development committee) Outcome: According to the analysis of historical development, triathlon competitions are shortening, and the share of triathlons is rising at the expense of Olympic triathlons. There is no fundamental difference in BMI values between the best super sprint...

Analýza hydrologického sucha a trendy srážkoodtokových dat v povodí Bouřlivce a Loučenského potoka / Analysis of hydrological drought and trends of rainfall-runoff data in the Bouřlivec and Loučenský stream basins

Vítková, Petra January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of hydrological drought in the Bouřlivec and Loučenský stream basins, located in the northwest of the Czech Republic in the Ore Mountains. Available hydrological and climatological data series from two limnographic and four climatological stations were used to characterize the hydrological drought. The intensity of the occurrence of hydrological drought in the stream basins of interest was assessed using the method of threshold values and the method of insufficient volumes. According to the results of the work, the hydrological year 2020 was marked as extremely low in water on both monitored profiles, which points to the accumulating causes of drought from previous years. In terms of hydrological drought, the year 2018 was also significant. The diploma thesis also aims to detect trends in data series of precipitation, air temperature and inflow into the Všechlapy reservoir using the Mann-Kendall test. The results of statistical testing of the trend point to an increasing trend of air temperature and a decreasing trend of the inflow into the Všechlapy reservoir. A significant trend in the precipitation data series was not confirmed. Trend testing was preceded by an assessment of the homogeneity of the available data sets. Last but not least, emphasis is...

“Timeless or Tacky?” : En kvalitativ studie om tidlöst mode på sociala medier / “Timeless or Tacky?” : A qualitative study about timeless fashion on social media

Sigurdson, Isabella, Högne, Julia January 2023 (has links)
This study is based on the current trend of timeless fashion that takes place on social media, especially on Tiktok and Youtube. The fashion industry has changed significantly due to social media and has enabled an increased speed of change and diffusion of fashion. That timeless fashion has grown in popularity and has become a form of "trend" on social media creates a paradox. This is because timeless fashion is considered to be independent of time and trends, unlike fashion which is defined as something changeable and up-to-date. The purpose of this study is thus to investigate the phenomenon of timeless fashion on social media. This is to gain an understanding of social media users' perception of timeless fashion on social media, as well as whether timeless fashion is a time-specific fashion trend or whether it is an indication of a paradigm shift that rejects fashion's changes. A qualitative approach was used to conduct this study in the form of a netnographic method. Furthermore, this study uses a qualitative content analysis of moving images and comments relating to timeless fashion. The material was collected from the social media applications, Tiktok and Youtube. The analysis is based on literature and theory about fashion, trends, social media, timeless fashion, sustainability through longevity and consumption. The result shows that the timeless fashion brings divided opinions among users. Timeless fashion can be considered partly as a status marker of exclusivity, a personal style meant to be worn forever, but also as a concept that encourages consumption due to exposure on social media. The conclusion is that many people have a negative attitude towards today's fast changing fashion industry and the timeless trend reflects that. For example, by the fact that it is becoming increasingly important not to follow trends and instead to be sure of one's own style in order to achieve authenticity. However, it is difficult to be completely unaffected by the constant change in preferences that social media brings. Many may have the feeling that they have found the "right" style with their clothing, but society will continue to change, which is why many users believe that nothing can be timeless. The study intends to contribute with extended research on the phenomenon of timeless fashion as well as increased knowledge of trends on social media and how users perceive and interpret fashion in different ways. The study is thus expected to be useful both for fashion science and for companies.

Gröna obligationer : Trender inom fastighetfinansiering / Green bonds : Financing Trends in Real Estate

Bergvall, Olof, Hämquist, Linnéa January 2018 (has links)
The Capital Market for Real Estate is ever changing. Companies continuously try to find new ways to obtain financing and for the past years the trend has been for companies to go to the capital market and finance their projects with bonds. Furthermore, the climate-question has been intensified lately and companies are taking more responsibility when it comes to working towards a sustainable future. In view of this, this research paper aims to examine financing trends on the Swedish Real Estate Market with special focus on green bonds. The benefits that real estate companies can enjoy from being more environmentally sustainable are many, but the main benefits are that more sustainable buildings often result in lower operating and maintenance costs which in turn has a positive effect on the net operating income. Furthermore, companies that issue green bonds can enjoy a lower interest rate compared to those issuing regular bonds. Issuing a green bond also allows the company to communicate their sustainability work in a more natural way which in turn gives the company some good-will. Though some companies worry that there are other firms out there trying to capitalise on this green trend thus taking advantage of the work of others and attracting investors for the wrong reasons. The research has been conducted by interviewing representatives from five large Swedish real estate companies in addition to Svensk Fastighetsfinansiering, a bond issuer co-owned by five real estate companies, one which we have interviewed. Moreover, we have collected historical data of 26 Swedish real estate companies aggregated capital structure since 2012.

3D Bioprinting : Future Challenges and Entrepreneurial Possibilities of a Growing Technology

Nilsson, Olivia January 2023 (has links)
Bioprinting is one of the most promising technologies for future healthcare as it may benefit the repairing of wounds and injuries, disease modeling and development, transplantation of organs and reduce animal testing. This thesis aim to investigate this industry further, as there is no excessive literature on how to handle the innovation in regards to entrepreneurial and biotechnological knowledge. Hence, a research gap can be spotted and the purpose of the conducted research questions should contribute to this gap. In order to fully understand the bioprinting industry, an outline of the technology is made as part of the research. In addition to this, secondary data for patents, market valuation and annual growth rates are collected to support arguments from previous literature. Also, interviews are conducted to gather specific knowledge. As a result, bioprinting may be presented as a disruptive innovation in an uncertain market, which places certain demands on companies to act more in line with the complexity of the technology. Such companies must think more strategically and design more complex and long-term strategies. The patent data shows that there has been a decline in the technological development as patent applications have decreased significantly. Even though the technology (regarding the patents) has started to slowly decline, there is still hope for some technological improvements to come. It can be concluded that developments in bioink, scaffolds, expansion of cells and diffusion is expected, and that the use of bioprinting is increasing and will most likely continue to do so.
