Chernykh, Aleksandra January 2013 (has links)
The master thesis deals with the fenomenon of integration of 1,5. generation of immigrants from the coutries of former USSR. Czech researchers devote to this topic relatively little attention, so that it remains in seclusion. At present, there are only partial and incidental findings about integration of children with origins in the former USSR. Based on the current level of knowledge it seeks to grasp the phenomenon of the integration of those children in all its complexity, and therefore focuses on the different dimensions of integration - structural, social and cultural including language. In examining all the mentioned integration dimensions in tracks how the immigrant children handle the cultural heritage of their country of origin, but also how the adopt Czech culture in its broader sense. To get the deepest understanding of their integration - within each dimension, and within the overall integration process - and also to find out the problems they face on their way to successful integration, it explores this phenomenon from the perspective of those children's mothers. Through in-depth interviews with women-immigrants who come from the post-Soviet region, the work reveals meanings that they attach to different aspects of their children's integration into the Czech hosting society. Finally, the work...

Folclore como ação educativa na constituição de políticas linguísticas em e para comunidades rurais de origem ucraniana na Croácia e no Brasil / Folklore as an educational activity in the constitution of language policies in and for rural communities of Ukrainian origin in Croatia and Brazil

Puh, Milan 09 October 2017 (has links)
This research studies the formation and the implementation of linguistic and cultural activities in folklore groups among rural communities of Ukrainian origin in Croatia and Brazil, in order to understand the constitution of linguistic policies in/ for minority communities. These communitieswere selected because both were formed in the nineteenth century, with the same internal organization and tension with institutional power. From this we formulate our initial hypothesis: the Ukrainian community not only follows the official policies, but also establishes, in addition to these policies, a specific and more autonomous policy in its interior, materialized through several educational actions, which shows us that language policy can occur on the micro level, outside the narrow institutional framework. To this end, the thesis analyzes how the members of a minority community constitute their linguistic policy, in the educational moments that oscillate between the (non)formal, as well as the result of the tension between the identity assumed by the Community, the identity presumed by the State and intermediated by the University. The data consists of documents, interviews and observations from the Ukrainian communities in the municipalities of Irati (Ivan Kupalo group), Prudentópolis (Vesselka group) and Mallet (Spomen group) in Brazil, and Lipovljani (Karpati group), umee (Andrij Pelih group) and Kania (Taras evenko group) in Croatia. Documents and texts produced by the State/University were also collected. For the data collection, the research was based on ethnographic methodology, used to organize and interpret the statements, texts and observations, along with the analytical approach to their discourse. On the other hand, the analytical-interpretive apparatus of the research consists of the integration of the areas of Education (formal and non-formal education), Linguistic Studies (Discourse Analysis) and folklore (political, economic and aesthetic). Some of the results we obtained relate to the educational practices that offer information according to topic and the discussion about the extension of the interconnection of the four mentioned areas that open space for new interpretations.

Perception and action : an analysis on communication between U.S. sponsorship and Russian speaking immigrants

Johnston, Candace G. 27 August 1993 (has links)
The problems of Russian speaking refugees from the Ukraine region of the former Soviet Union are the basis for ethnographic inquiry and the delineation of the role of voluntary agencies who assist their resettlement in Portland, Oregon. Interpretive methods are the foundation for an analysis of Ukrainians' perceptions of problems inherent in the migration and communication process. Though their reasons for emigration are understood, techniques of participant observation reveal otherwise hidden aspects of the effect of bilingualism and Ukrainians' perception of the role of resettlement agencies as representatives of the state. The intention of the research is to contribute to the field of anthropological study of social issues and refugee resettlement. In the aim of conflict resolution, the research focus seeks to improve communication between those in authority and those subordinate to the prerogative of immigration law. / Graduation date: 1994

Factors Shaping Ethnic Identity Among Crimean Tatars, Russians And Ukrainians In Crimea

Biletska, Yuliya 01 October 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this thesis is to define factors that are influential in the ethnic identification process of Crimean Tatars, Russians and Ukrainians in Crimea. To better understand the current ethnic situation in Crimea, Soviet nationality policy as well as Soviet ethnos theory are reviewed. The divergence of the definitions in Soviet and Western traditions is shown. Crucial historical events that took place in Crimea are examined from the viewpoints of Russian, Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, Soviet and Western historiographies. The influence of the historical myths on shaping ethnic boundaries of these ethnic groups in Crimea is shown. Main factors such as the cultural, political, economic, and global ones which are shaping the ethnic self-consciousness of Crimean Tatars, Russians and Ukrainians in Crimea are studied. Therefore the thesis helps us to understand the meaning of being a Russian, an Ukrainian and a Crimean Tatar in Crimea.

Specifika ošetřovatelské dokumentace při poskytování ošetřovatelské péče pacientům cizincům / Specifics of nursing documentation in providing nursing care foreign patients

KUBIŠOVÁ, Pavla January 2011 (has links)
Abstract This diploma work?s title is ?Special Characteristics of Nursing Care Documentation at Providing Foreign Patients with Nursing Care?. Nursing care documentation is very important, which statement represents general consent of all medical officers of health however the aforementioned nursing care documentation is rather complicated and disunited and uncoordinated. The greatest problem that appears here consists in needs being different taking into consideration culture, country, which the person (patient) comes from and the patient?s religion that the patient practices. Therefore it is important to bring order and consolidate all relevant pieces of information and think over nationwide use of this important data containing foreign patient characteristics. At present paying attention to this problem is worth not only noticing but also solving it because due to increasing migration to and within the Czech Republic territory it is expected that there will be a lot of different cultures as well as nationalities and medical personnel is expected high level of nursing care taking account of their needs. In the beginning there were set the following two goals: To ascertain whether the existing nursing documentation contains specific pieces of information necessary for providing nursing care for foreign patients and to determine whether it is necessary to make specific pieces information regarding foreign patients an integral part of nursing documentation. Three research questions were established at the same time then. The first research question focused on the fact whether the documentation having been used in hospitals was adapted to satisfy biological, psychical, social and spiritual needs of foreign patients. Thanks to the research question number two we made effort to ascertain and identify whether the documentation applied and being used in hospitals covers also the specific documentation oriented to foreign patients. The third and last research question solved the problem whether it is necessary that specific pieces of information dealing with foreign patients should be an integral part of nursing documentation. Inquiry check and examination were carried out by applying method of qualitative examination by means of non-standard interview and during the second part of interview data analysis was used. The research samples were represented by nurses working at hospital wards in the hospitals within South Bohemia Region, West Bohemia Region, Central Bohemia Region and North Moravia Region. Applying interview forms processed the pieces of information provided by nurses. The inquiry checks and examinations showed that the nursing documentation used in the hospital wards does not contain in sufficient scope the pieces of information oriented to the foreign patients and foreign clients which results in foreign patients and clients not satisfying biological, psychical, social and spiritual needs. It follows from this that nurses working at hospital wards do not have available and at their disposal the documentation related to the foreign clients and patients and dealing with the foreign clients? needs ? the existing nursing documentation is only one and it is applied and used for all hospital clients i.e. it is uniform. It is possible to make the conclusion that the first goal having been established has been met and the same hold good for the second one. In the connection and context with pieces of knowledge having been ascertained we should like to recommend that nurses working at hospital wards should have the possibility of getting familiar with multicultural nursing and it would be advisable and appropriate to provide nursing documentation oriented to foreign clients coming from foreign countries. It appears important from the point of view to satisfy the needs of these clients, which will bring nursing care new higher quality.

Spolková činnost ukrajinské menšiny v Praze v letech 2001-2013 / Activities of the Ukrainian civic associations in Prague from 2001 to 2013

Vágnerová, Vendula January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with the Ukrainian minority associations in Prague from 2001 to 2013. The Ukrainian minority in our country has a long tradition, although the nature of its activity is influenced by different waves of migration and socio-political changes since the early 20th century to the present. After a long period of repression, national minorities activity was restored in 1990, when official registration of minority civic associations was granted. The first of these were established by the Ukrainians from the earlier migration waves or by their descendants, while the new associations registered after 2001 were usually created in connection with the significant increase of Ukrainian migrants, coming to the Czech Republic since the 90s, and caused by the diversification of the Ukrainian minority. The thesis therefore presents a report on the Ukrainian organizations in Prague in the period from 2001 until 2013, reflecting their development, differences, and introducing the specific activities as a means to achieving the goals of associations and needs of their members. At the same time, this work highlights several elements that associate the social activity of the Ukrainian minority. At the same time, the purpose of the introduction of the Ukrainian diaspora in Prague is to offer a better...
