Dimensionering av UPS-system och generatorer för reservkraftsystem på sjukhus och flygplatser / Dimensioning of UPS-systems and generators forreserve power at hospitals andairports

Jacobsson, Erik January 2018 (has links)
Hospitals and airports are just like the rest of society, dependent onelectricity. With today's technology, hospitals and airports are highly technological and highly sensitiveto electricity loss. Thatmakes it important to have stable and secure power supply without interruptions. An interruption of power supply can cause serious even fatal consequences. Ensuring a good and redundant reserve power system is essential for hospitals and airports. The purpose of the study was to investigate and provide good redundant solutions for reserve systems in hospitals and airports. During the course of the thesis, literature studies ofgenerators and UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems have been conducted as well as interviews with experts in both subjects. Results show the fundamental aspects that should be taken into account when dimensioning reserve power systems. But it also shows that there are many aspects that affectthe system dimensioning, which means that all systems look different and there is no specific template to follow.

Uso de gerenciamento por delegação para controle e administração de no-breaks / Use of management by delegation for control and administration of UPS

Polina, Everton Rafael January 2007 (has links)
Nowadays most companies are investing in non-stop systems, which leads to investments in management systems to know when a fault occurs or to foresee and avoid them. To reduce the effects of power supply faults (which are common in Brazil and in other parts of the world), people use UPS systems. These equipments are designed to guarantee the power supply for a pre-defined limited time, just in case the power company interrupts the supply. The main goal of this work is to present the implementation of a management application for UPS systems, which has the differential of using the management-bydelegation paradigm, based on SNMP, showing the advantages of this paradigm. The application uses Script MIB and an implementation of this standard (JASMIN - Java Script MIB Implementation) for task distribution, in such a way that all the tool interactivity and process automation was done using the free tools Apache and PHP. The work also presents a brief description about the UPS functioning, and shows UPS-MIB, the standard MIB for UPS management. Additionally the work presents some important objects available in some custom MIBs that are used for UPS management too. This study suggests the use of a set of tools to make the management system responsible for the workstations plugged on the UPS, which means that when the UPS is about to be unable to maintain the load, it should be turned off safely to avoid data losses or hardware faults. One can note that the management done in this work through the developed tool makes easy the fault detection in the power supply system. This leads to a good interaction with the UPS to verify the conditions of the power network in order to take decisions to maintain the computer network running safely.

"Habitações" : autorretratos como microterritórios subjetivos

Vieira, Karine Gomes Perez January 2016 (has links)
The analysis object of this practical and theoretical research is the “Habitations” series, composed of twenty-four photographic self-portraits. The artistic process consisted in self photographing me in domestic environments for temporary stay, seeking to integrate some of its visual characteristics by overlays and cover-ups of textiles on the body. Many of the fabrics used contain prints or colors similar to those presents in the surrounding of the house, with the intention of promoting the fusion between the human body and inhabited domestic environments that surround it. The attempts to establish relations between the human body and the domestic environment enables think the photographic self-portrait as subjective micro territory within the meaning created through photography tiny imaginary worlds, coming from inner life and reconfiguration of routine daily movements, such as the act of lying down, pose repeated in all works. The strategy of covering the body prevents the subject's physiognomy is shown, pointing reconfigurations of the traditional concept of self-portrait and inquiries about the surface and the physical appearance of the subjects and things. In this sense, the photographic self-portrait is seen as otherness and fiction, which enables think of it as a subjective micro territory. To reflect on these relations sense, latent in the “Habitations” series, resort to the authors Deleuze and Guattari, as well as Rouille (2009), Berger (2014) and Fabris (2004). Establish dialogues between "Habitations" and contemporary and Art History works, highlighting some authored by artists like Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527-1593), René Magritte (1898-1967), Nino Cais and Cecilia Paredes, which contribute to the theoretical and reflective analysis of the practice, embodied in the "Habitations" series.

To what extent can universities create a sustainable system to support MSMEs? : a focus on the West Midlands region

Williamson, T. January 2015 (has links)
Micro, Small and Medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) represent 99.9% of businesses in the UK and they face significant challenges with regards to start-up, survival and growth. Their ability to deal with these challenges is assisted, in some cases, by the provision of business support funded by the public sector. Unfortunately, despite the volume of such businesses, there remains a significant lack of qualitative data into the MSME sector, and their use of university led business support. This thesis examined the business support agenda, the support needs of MSMEs, the role of universities in the provision of business support, and the needs of public funding bodies, with regards to economic sustainability and growth in the West Midlands. The choice to focus on the West Midlands region was largely pragmatic; the researcher has existing relationships with the small business community and University networks within the region allowing for a comparable study of stakeholders with similar environmental, political and economical challenges. Whilst the findings are therefore in relation to the West Midlands region, they have been compared to secondary data and theoretical frameworks in order to propose a contribution, which is applicable to a wider audience. The thesis adopted an exploratory, interpretivist methodology with an emphasis on the practical importance of the research results. Through an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach, surveys were used to collect data from MSME business owners, followed by in-depth interviews with university staff in order to produce institutional case studies. The surveys with MSME owners identified a need for support that was free, local, face-to-face and delivered by an organisation with a good reputation for delivering business support. The survey data also indicated confusion amongst MSME owners about the availability of support from universities, as well as questions around the quality of support provided by universities and its impact. The interviews, and case studies, revealed a significant level of interest, and a feeling of responsibility, from universities towards supporting the MSME community. However there were consistent challenges around funding, sustainability, resources, flexibility of delivery, and the longevity of any enterprise strategy. The research makes a useful contribution to knowledge through the development of multiple case studies and the development of a conceptual framework for a sustainable system of university led, MSME business support. The model, and analysis, considers the detailed experiences, challenges and opportunities from the stakeholders and proposed a sustainable support system. This contribution to literature provides a unique perspective for both practical application and for the research community to utilise further.

Managing resource constraints in firms

Rosin, Anna Frieda 12 February 2021 (has links)
Small, new or foreign firms inherently have a lower likelihood of surviving in the market. Frequently, this is due to the existence of resource constraints, such as the liabilities of smallness, newness or foreignness. Consequently, to survive in the market, small, new or foreign firms need to find efficient ways to use their resources. Multiple ways to alleviate these problems have been discussed in the literature, which include digitalization, internationalization, or outsourcing relationships. The usage of digital technologies, entering foreign markets or partnering with established organizations have been found to have compelling advantages and, thus, are promising practices for small, new and foreign firms in overcoming those constraints. It is, however, surprising that little is known about relevant aspects of these practices. For instance, research has just begun to investigate the influence of digital technologies on small and new firms, misses to investigate the success factors in the internationalization of small, new and foreign e-commerce firms, or has not fully investigated methods to improve performance of small firms in outsourcing relationships. Drawing on extant research on digitalization, internationalization, and outsourcing this cumulative dissertation presents four research papers. Each paper contributes to fill existing research gaps in the respective literature. All papers investigate a particular type of small firm and examine potential ways to handle scare resources. Beyond the theoretical and practical contributions of each research paper, this dissertation in its entirety presents several implications for practitioners in small, new and foreign firms that will help them to overcome resource constraints. Furthermore, the thesis discusses implications for theory, limitations, and avenues for further research.

How Can Start-Up Firms Define A Market For Radical Innovation – The Case Of Textile Coated By Graphene.

Knopik, Sandra January 2021 (has links)
Start-ups have played and still play a vital role in national and global economies. To grow and maintain competitiveness, companies need to innovate, and this is the engine of market growth. However, existing studies do not provide sufficient guidance and explanation on how companies in the early stages of life can successfully define a market for radical innovation. Some previous studies have focused on market niche and breakthrough innovation, others on start-ups and their radical innovation, and others on entrepreneurship and dynamic capabilities.  Therefore, the objective of this master’s thesis is to systematically address and explain how start-ups with their radical innovation can define a market and what dynamic capabilities are necessary to reach it successfully. This master's thesis presents a qualitative case study, and the results show that start-ups can face several challenges when defining a market, especially when talking about radical innovation. However, the deployment of dynamic capabilities in a constant manner can support start-ups in the complex process of the delimitation of the market. These capabilities are essential for start-ups not only to shape the offer but also to deal with uncertain environments and to adapt to changes in the market. The findings of this thesis contribute to sharpening the theoretical framework of dynamic capabilities in an entrepreneurial environment. Entrepreneurs can benefit from the results as a practical guide when defining a market. Moreover, for academia, the results improved the dynamic capabilities framework with an illustration of the application of these capabilities in a real scenario.

Historiska beslut, ojämlikhet och maktpositioner i klimatarbetet : Landsbygdskommuners möjligheter och hinder att bli fossilfria till senast år 2045 / Historical decisions, inequalities and power in climate action : Possibilities and barriers for rural municipalities to become fossil-free by the year 2045

Björkholm, Ruth January 2020 (has links)
The essay is based on Sweden's climate policy framework where the following goals have been set: "by 2045, Sweden will have net zero carbon dioxide emission, in order to achieve negative emissions thereafter." (Naturvårdsverket 2019b). The countryside is the focus of the essay, where the relationship between city and countryside is described as well as attitudes and behaviors linked to climate change. The essay refers to historical decisions, inequalities and power, factors that shaped the rural areas and their conditions to work with climate mitigation and adaptation. Interviews with rural municipalities have been conducted, which aims to study the possibilities and barriers for the countryside to become fossil-free by the year 2045. A qualitative content analysis highlights the pros and cons of seven themes that affect the conditions both opportunities and obstacles in rural municipalities work to reach the target. To be able to discuss the topic more deeply, following theories are described; path dependency, ecological modernization, the risk society, political ecology and the center-/periphery theory. The essay discusses how cooperation can be affected by power and explains how the countryside is in lock-ups depending on historical decisions, which leads to obstacles in current and future work. It is also highlighted how important it is with a personal commitment when the rural municipalities work with climate mitigation and adaptation.

Inhibitory effect on the proteasome regulatory subunit, RPN11/POH1, with the use of Capzimin-PROTAC to trigger apoptosis in cancer cells

Holmqvist, Andreas January 2020 (has links)
Most patients diagnosed with cancer will receive systematic chemotherapy at some point during their illness, which almost always cause severe side effects for the patients such as, anemia, nausea and vomiting. The problems with today’s chemotherapy is not only that it cause severe side effects, but also that the cancer may develop resistance to the therapy, which is why the development of a new type of therapeutic agent is in dire need. The ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) is a vital machinery for the cancer cells to maintain protein homeostasis, which also make them vulnerable to any disruption of this system. In recent years, a new technology has been developed that utilize the UPS by chemically bringing an E3 ubiquitin ligase into close proximity of a protein of choice and tagging the protein with ubiquitin for degradation. This technology is called proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC). In this project, we managed to theoretically develop a new type of cancer therapeutic agent, that utilize the PROTAC system together with the first-in-class proteasome regulatory subunit, POH1, inhibitor Capzimin as a warhead. By using Capzimin as a warhead it should be possible to polyubiquitinate POH1, and thus induce proteotoxic stress in the cancer cells to trigger apoptosis. This theoretically developed drug is therefore called Capzimin-PROTAC, which should be able to trigger apoptosis in cancer cells, and at the same time being relatively safe to normal healthy cells.

Lübbe, Martin 26 January 2001 (has links)
