Hand hygiene knowledge, attitude and practices among health care workers of Pietersburg Tertiary Hospital, Polokwane, Limpopo Province

Setati, Musa Eileen January 2019 (has links)
Thesis(M. Med. (Public Health Medicine)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / Background: Health care workers (HCWs) hands are the most common vehicle for the transmission of health care associated infections (HCAIs) between patients and the health care environment. Hand hygiene is regarded as the most important, simplest, and least expensive means of reducing the burden of HCAIs. However, hand hygiene compliance remains low among HCWs. Aim: To assess the level of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practices (KAP) of HCWs on hand hygiene and associated factors. Method: A quantitative, descriptive study using a pre-tested self-administered questionnaire was conducted among HCWs of Pietersburg Hospital. Data collection was carried out between January and February 2018. KAP scores were summarised into means, standard deviations and percentages. Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests were used to determine association between KAP scores and selected independent variables (gender, age, profession, experience, discipline and training). Results: There were 324 respondents, mostly females (74.3%), <40 years (70.6%) and predominantly nurses (52.4%). Majority had moderate knowledge (79.3%), positive attitude (88.8%) and good practices (87.9%). Respondents had knowledge gaps on HCAIs, WHO “Five (5) moments for hand hygiene” and alcohol based hand rub. Association was found between respondent’s KAP scores and age (p<0.05). Nursing profession was associated with good practices (p=0.000). Knowledge and attitude were associated with years of clinical experience (p<0.05). Positive attitude (p=0.019) and good practices (p=0.000) were associated with training in the last 3 years. No significant relationship was found between KAP and undergraduate training. Conclusion: Most respondents had moderate knowledge, positive attitude and good practices. Respondent’s variety in KAP scores and associated factors indicate that a multimodal, multifaceted improvement approach should be undertaken to address KAP gaps.

A descriptive qualitative empirical study describing how basic hand hygiene is conducted in Lesotho as well as the healthcare staffs’ thoughts on it

Wolle, Darren, Isacson, Evelina January 2023 (has links)
Background: Hand hygiene is now, more than ever, one of the most important factors to minimize spread of infection. In low income countries like Lesotho between 6% - 19% of patients contract at least one healthcare associated infection. Compared to between 3% - 10% in high income countries. Objective: The aim was to describe how healthcare professionals experience and conduct basic hand hygiene procedures at a hospital in Lesotho. Method: The study was conducted using a qualitative content analysis with a manifest level of abstraction and an inductive approach. Result: The results showed in our final categories; Healthcare professionals perceive different views on the risk for contamination, Healthcare professionals described hand hygiene as important although there are hindrances, and Healthcare professionals stated that basic hand hygiene need support from management for good compliance. That healthcare professionals did not always perform basic hand hygiene the way it was supposed as low budget or lack of knowledge was an obstacle. Conclusions: There are many problem areas, such as cost, availability and knowledge although the personnel are interested, resourceful and willing to make the best of any situation they come across.

Purification of Engineered Graphite for Advanced Application

Zhao, Lingfeng January 2022 (has links)
Graphite has important applications in several key industries, which has been listed as a “criticalraw material” considered to be supply-risk by European since 2020. Purification of engineered graphite is one of the essential processes for the manufacturing of high-quality graphite. In this work, the production process and the existing methods to purify the three major types of graphite are evaluated and compared. Then purification method focusing on acid washing to remove iron from bio-graphite is investigated. The results showed that the impurity removalefficiency of acid washing increases with the increase of temperature, but efficiency decreased because of HCl volatilization when the temperature reaches 100 ℃. High concentrations of hydrochloric acid and other strong acids can improve the ability of acid washing. The smaller the graphite particle size, the more iron impurities are removed. Finally, through multi-steps acid washing with hydrochloric acid and aqua regia at 80 °C, bio-graphite with a purity of 99.67 % was obtained. This meets the requirements of metallurgical electrodes and other applications. The acquisition of ultra-high-purity graphite still needs more further work.

Teaching data literacy through games

Zackrisson, Matilda January 2022 (has links)
Data literacy is an increasingly important skill to possess due to the large amounts of information available to us. This thesis explores the teaching of data literacy through a learning game. It revolves around the creation of a prototype for a learning game teaching data literacy in the domain of environ- mental issues. The prototype is largely based on a similar game teaching data literacy called Dataville. However, the narrative of the new game is based on another game as well as inspired by a real-world example of green washing. To test the concept of the new prototype, usability testing is conducted. Focus is on the experience of the game. The usability testing showed that it was mostly appreciated among the target group. However, changes to the navigation, font size and buttons need to be made. The prototype also needs more instructions in the form of "pick the right answer". Furthermore, it is also in need of explanations on how to read tables and diagrams for those students who have not yet learnt it or do not remember how to.

GREEN SKEPTICISM : How green intentions can lead to brown choices

Lundin, Linnéa January 2021 (has links)
Although much is known about the conscious consumer, very little is known about green advertising. Given the growing attention placed on environmental issues and the heavy reliance of the consuming public on mass media, the dire lack of credibility in green advertising is in a shocking state. In fact, there has been a pronounced increase in green messages in advertising since the 1960s. This increase in green messages does not inherentlymean that there is a favorable consumer brand attitude formation. Instead, consumers have become increasingly skeptical of the environmental claims made by some of these organizations. The existence of consumer skepticism, together with perceived deception, hashad a negative impact on credibility. The purpose of this essay is to understand how marketing efforts on product labels thathighlight environmental, social and ethical problems (known as green product labels) might increase the customers' skepticism. The chosen method to conduct the data collection was a survey. The survey was distributed through online forms through facebook and other socialmedia platforms and thus limited to focus on the consumers of a more connected kind, mainly those who partake in social media on a daily basis. Results show that the consumers are skeptical towards green efforts and green product labeling, but the perception of green labels are not directly influencing the amount of skepticism as these notions seem to come from outside sources. While not directly influenced by product labels the increase in skepticism towards these kinds of ads displaying green efforts implicates both practical and theoretical relevance. Consumers are becoming more aware of false claims and companies need to be aware of what influences consumer skepticism to be able to better match their ads with the target audiences.

Raka eller (inte raka)? : En semiotisk bildanalys av rakhyvelsföretaget Estrids marknadsföring utifrån postfeministiska diskussioner. / Shave or (not too shave)? : A semiotic image analysis of the razor company Estrid's marketing based on postfeminist discussions.

Grothén, Melinda January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine, based on a qualitative semiotic image analysis, how feminist aspects are used by companies for commercial purposes. The starting point for the study is a critical feminist perspective with a theoretical background in the complex discussions about postfeminism, commodified feminism, femwashing and femvertising. Of which an in-depth study of postfeminist discussions of individualism, girl power and empowerment. The study will examine the razor blade company Estrid's two campaigns: Shave and misbehave (2019) and Save. Shave. Whatever (2020). The aim of the study is that in a tripartite analysis consisting of; body hair, shaving and the environment show how today's neoliberal society often uses political and social issues for a capitalist and commercial purpose. Based on the campaigns, analyze how Estrid portrays women, body hair and feminism in relation to their products. The result that emerged from the analysis showed that Estrid strives to break stereotypes and express feminist values within its brand strategy. This is because it repeatedly shows normalization around body hair. The conclusion also showed that as a brand, it is difficult to produce a genuine brand strategy, with feminsit values. Estrid's focus on feminist statements in their campaigns is influenced by postfeminist discussions, with messages such as individualism and empowerment, where new expectations of women are created instead of focusing on criticizing gender structural inequalities.
