WELL; Ett verktyg för ökat välbefinnande i svenska kontor? / WELL; A tool for enhanced wellbeing in Swedish offices?

Sjölund, Louise January 2017 (has links)
At an office, the salary cost is the single largest cost with 80% of the total costs. In addition, people in the developed parts of the world spend 90% of their time indoors, thus it makes sense to include health and wellness in environmental assessment methods.  The WELL Building Standard® is the first environmental assessment method that solely is focusing on wellbeing and comfort of the occupants. This by evaluating hundred preconditions and optimizations, covering the seven concepts of air, water, nourishment, fitness, light, comfort and mind.  This report has two purposes, first determine whether WELL can improve wellbeing and health in Swedish office buildings and second determine whether the new office of WSP Environmental in Stockholm fulfills the requirements for WELL certification. The methods used is a theoretical analysis, evaluating research that investigates performance correlated to indoor climate, and an investigation of Swedish regulations compared to the WELL standard. In according to this an occupant survey was used to evaluate the old and new office. At last measurements were done (temperature, relative humidity, light, sound and indoor air pollutants). The result of the WELL evaluation shows that eight preconditions of WELL were not met in the new office. These are ventilation effectiveness, processed foods, hand washing, artificial ingredients, solar glare control, ADA accessible design standards, ergonomics: visual and physical and internally generated noise. In a wider perspective, the conclusion is that WELL contributes to beautiful and inspiring indoor environments, healthy food and policies to protect the employees. Other aspects, such as ventilation, thermal comfort, light and sound are regulated by Swedish law, WELL is then a proof that the building fulfills the requirements.  The answer to the main question ”Can WELL improve the wellbeing and health in Swedish office buildings?” is yes, but the price is very high since it is a very expensive certification. One reason may be that WELL in a Swedish perspective evaluates and awards obvious aspects such as water quality, parental leave and healthcare.  In a Swedish perspective, it is time consuming to evaluate a project for WELL as both American and Swedish regulations and standards have to be followed. Other critics is that WELL is evaluating exact numbers, even if education and information sometimes are more important.  At last, the most important aspect that WELL contributes to is to discuss the question about indoor climate and health, that previously was not discusses as much as energy and environmental efficiency.

WE C.A.R.E 2: a parent-child community yoga program that promotes the health and well-being of caregivers and their children autism spectrum disorder

MacAlpine, Heidi Maryanne 27 January 2020 (has links)
The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has increased two percent from 2012–2014 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018) and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has considered ASD to be a major health concern. The demands of caring for a child with developmental disabilities, including ASD can be overwhelming and the caregivers are experiencing heightened levels of stress in comparison to rearing typically developing children (Argumedes, Lanovaz, & Larivée, 2017; Lindo, Kliemann, Combes, & Frank, 2017). There is a need for more family support to implement more effective coping strategies to deal with the maladaptive functioning of the child with ASD (Hall, & Graff, 2011). The WE C.A.R.E. 2 Program is a nine-week evidence-based community pilot program that will provide an inclusive opportunity with additional family support and effective coping strategies e.g., breathing techniques, yoga postures and positive coping cognitions (e.g., positive self-talk and reappraisals) to decrease the stress levels of caregivers and promote healthy behaviors and healthy child development with the support and training from trained facilitators and a network of caregivers. This individualized plan will tailor to the needs of each dyad to create the necessary mechanisms of change (behavior, cognition, physiological, and sensory modulation) among the children and adults in the yoga group. The professional collaboration of different disciplines (occupational therapy, yoga therapist and teacher) will provide the appropriate modifications to the environment and provide the necessary input for the “just right” experience for a positive outcome.

Finding Home in Nature: Nature's Role in Immigrant Weelbeing

Jabeen, Sehrish January 2023 (has links)
It has been observed in the past few years that a large number of migrants have arrived in Europe. The number of international students who come to Sweden each year is one of the most overlooked groups of immigrants. The immigrant students are experiencing difficulties in their health and wellbeing due to new country settlement challenges. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between immigrant students and their natural environments, focusing in particular on their wellbeing. In order to achieve this objective, a qualitative study of 11 semi structured interviews are conducted on two south Asian groups of immigrants studying in Gothenburg, Sweden. This study investigates how immigrant students cope with challenges in the host country by utilizing natural places. It also investigates how they can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing by interacting with nature using biophilia and attention restoration theories. There are three primary domains in which immigrant students can establish meaningful relationships with nature and enhance their holistic wellbeing, according to the findings of this study. First, they can embrace nature by spending time in natural places every day. Second, they can participate in nature-based recreation that strengthens their connection with nature, helps them get ready for the challenges of living in a new country, and makes them feel healthy overall. Third, the bond they build with nature through daily interactions and outdoor recreation can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing.

Nature experiences for human wellbeing and Human-Nature Connection

Maekawa, Ikumi, Pålsson, Kajsa January 2023 (has links)
Our contact with nature is decreasing in what has been referred to as the “extinction of experience”. Consequences of the loss of nature experiences are far-reaching and involve not only changes in health and wellbeing, but also changes emotions, attitudes, and behaviour towards nature. This research aims to fill a knowledge gap in understanding specific characteristics of nature experiences in relation to both a) generating human wellbeing, and b) improving Human-Nature Connection (HNC), defined as how people relate to nature. The aim is to increase our understanding of the characteristics of nature experiences that can achieve both of these positive outcomes. Furthermore, this research explores an organisational perspective through interviewing organisations that are currently incorporating or thinking to implement practices that include nature experiences. To address the main aim, an integrative literature review was conducted, and the results revealed that intentional contact, active engagement (specifically appreciative outdoor activities, cognitive engagement, cues, and direct earth contact), and biodiversity and wildness to be significant characteristics that positively impact human beings. Moreover, appreciative outdoor activities and cognitive engagement have been shown to be beneficial even when passive. In addition, there is some evidence that there is a link between HNC and wellbeing, which suggests that improving HNC would increase the wellbeing effects experienced by an individual during a nature experience. This knowledge is crucial for designing nature experiences that are able to more efficiently improve wellbeing, as well as improve HNC. Regarding the organisational perspective, a barrier that needs to be overcome is reaching an understanding of the benefits of such experiences, not only for the employees but for the business. One major opportunity identified is the hybrid working model, which allows employees to work remotely, and the possibility for the company to actively encourage its employees to experience nature.

Tulek, Sabina, Odestål, Henrik January 2023 (has links)
Introduction: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the work environment for government employeesin Sweden has shifted from an office environment to the more flexible arrangement ofhybridwork. Hybridwork is the definition of a mixed work setting of both remote work andwork at the regular workplace. Studies have shown varying effects in employees well-being aswell as motivation and productivity due to this new way of working. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of this form of work on self-perceivedmotivation and productivity, and to conclude what advantages and disadvantages hybridworkhas for both the employee and the organization. Methods: In the study we examined the self-perceived perception of government employees inSweden. A total of five semi-structured interviews were completed with the regard of creatingan understanding in how hybridwork is applied and what the effects of this work model areregarding motivation and self-perceived productivity. Theory: The essay uses several theories that the authors consider relevant to the content of thestudy. Older motivational models are interwoven with newer research to create a good basis foranalysis of empirical evidence. Results: The results we found were very equal in terms of understanding what type of effectsand side-effects this work model can contribute to. This work model was among all respondentsconsidered as a benefit, although said organizations seemed to have a low to no understandingof its effects with respect to well-being, productivity and motivation.

The digitalisation of worksite benefits programs from a product development perspective / Digitaliseringen av arbetsplatsen gynnar program från en produkt utvecklingsperspektiv

Elodi, Márton January 2020 (has links)
This research presents a way for digitalising worksite benefits programs. The related work analysis and results of user interviews showed the important role of benefits programs in the wellbeing of employees, and as a result in company performance and employer branding. However shortcomings were discovered in the current format of worksite programs and suggested that digital transformation might help to address these shortcomings. The research used semi-structured interviews and analysis, user journey mapping, prototyping, and heuristic evaluation methods to deliver the concept of an employee insurance wallet. Furthermore, the research stepped beyond product design and presented a comprehensive framework for developing, monitoring, and operating such digital worksite benefit product. The framework incorporates stakeholder needs to ensure business success and user-centred design methodology to embrace usability and engagement principles. According to the research results, the real-life version of the product was developed.
