Utilizando-se da correspondência privada do autor, bem como de textos por ele escritos para a imprensa e publicados na Seção Exterior do Jornal do Commercio (Rio de Janeiro), sob o título de "Cartas de Londres", procurou-se identificar quais os sentidos históricos imediatos das propostas abolicionista/ reformistas de N abuco - constantemente referenciadas pelos estudiosos do processo abolicionista brasileiro. Identificando vínculos entre o abolicionista e empresários e investidores britânicos e brasileiros o trabalho conclui pela ligação estreita entre aquelas propostas e as práticas constitutivas do "imperialism of freetrade" ou British 'informal empire' / Abstract: The dissertation has for main purpose to analyse the book o Abolicionismo, that written and published at London, in 1883, by Joaquim Nabuco (1849 -1910). It makes use of private letters of author, and the texts for him written to printing press and publisheds at the "Exterior Section" of Jornal do Commercio (Rio de Janeiro), under title of "Cartas de Londres". It searches to identify the immediate historical senses of purposes abolitionist/ reformist of Nabuco. These purposes are constantly advised for analysts of Brazilian abolitionist process. Serão analisadas as fontes e camarárias, processos cíveis e do uso de outras fontes complementares. Além disso, traçaremos o perfil da cidade no contexto de sua região: o Vale do Paraíba Fluminense na divisa com a província de Minas Gerais. Dessa forma, contaremos a história da fundação do município e de suas primeiras ocupações. O trabalho busca afinal dar um panorama da elite agrária sapucaiense para entender melhor a formação da região e de suas fazendas. / The present research has as principal object the study of Sapucaia’s assembly ando f yours aldermen between the years 1875 until 1888. Will be analyzed the assemblys sources, civil suits and other complementary sources. Besides that, we’ll do the city’s perfil in the context of your region: th Vale do Paraíba Fluminense with the currency of Minas Gerais’ province. That way, we’ll tell the story of the foundation of municipality and of your first ocupations. CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / This work is the undertaken result of a historical reasearch, concerning the insert of literary association, âSpiritual Bakerâ (Padaria Espiritual), and their social-historical agents, with their involviment in education practices in the end of the XIX century. By literary association, we understood a series of groups among them, unions, cabinets of readings, literary clubs, intellectuais, learned, novelists, writers, scientists, naturalistic-realist, poets, nefelibatas, parnasos, total intellectuais, citizen writers, men of literacy, intellectuais, that moved by a literary passion, were centered in a dynamic of national identify formation. It was in the XIX century, that science was establishing its foundations as the guardian of the truth, influencing with their ideas, theories and currents, the construction of knowledge and fields.The âBakersâ pedagogyzives the literature of that time, guiding the learned readerâs view, on the provincial CearÃ. Using some authors to compose a theoretical referential that could manage to express the immensity of the problem, and the retlessness, we accomplished the research based on a Bourdieuâ methodology because they are theoretical head offices of cultural history. Crossing primary, secondary and romance literature sources weâve chosen to accompany and to guide us the perspective of : Svescenko, Williams, Ginzburg, Certeau, Darton, Chartier and Bourdieu. This research tells the reports and narratives of those historical agents, which moved a series of symbolic capitais, while people, or even better individual beings were historical and social agents in their time, itâs exactly in this period, which education is seen as a characteristic of social evilness. / Este trabalho à o resultado empreendido de uma pesquisa historiogrÃfica acerca da inserÃÃo de uma agremiaÃÃo literÃria, Padaria Espiritual, e seus agentes sÃcio-histÃricos, com o envolvimento em prÃticas docentes no final do sÃculo XIX. Por agremiaÃÃo literÃria, entendemos uma sÃrie de grupos, entre eles, grÃmios, gabinetes de leituras, clubes literÃrios, reuniÃo de intelectuais, letrados, romancistas, literatos, escritores, cientistas, naturalistas-realistas, poetas, nefelibatas, parnasos, intelectuais-totais, escritores-cidadÃos, homens de letras, intelectuais engajados que, movidos por uma paixÃo literÃria, estavam centrados dentro de uma dinÃmica de formaÃÃo da identidade nacional, compondo a RepÃblica das Letras. Era o sÃculo XIX o sÃculo em que a ciÃncia firmava suas bases, como guardià da verdade, influenciando com suas idÃias, teorias e correntes, a construÃÃo de saberes e campos. Era a Ãpoca em que a pedagogia, influenciada pelas idÃias cientÃficas, como tambÃm as literaturas, estabeleceram intercambiamento entre os campos de saberes. O trabalho privilegia exatamente isso: a agremiaÃÃo LiterÃria, no final do sÃculo XIX, que nÃo fazia somente pilhÃrias e ironias sobre a educaÃÃo em um jornal chamado o PÃo. Para melhor anÃlise do objeto pesquisado, criou-se uma categoria, fundamentando-a no trabalho. Os ideais pedagÃgicos dos Padeiros podem assim ser evocado. A pesquisa foi realizada com base na teoria de Pierre Bourdieu, por ser matriz teÃrica da histÃria cultural. Entrecruzando fontes primÃria, secundÃrias e literaturas de romance, elegemos para nos acompanhar e orientar Bourdieu nos possibilitou a compreensÃo e a noÃÃo de campos, saberes, doxa e habitus. Acompanharam ainda os nossos olhares Sevcenko, Williams, Ginzburg, Certeau, Darton, Chatier o que nos levaria a criar uma categoria, PadeirosâEducadores, para contar o envolvimento desses integrantes com a educaÃÃo e a prÃtica docente.Esta pesquisa conta os relatos e narrativas desses agentes histÃricos que movimentavam uma sÃrie de capitais simbÃlicos. Enquanto pessoas, ou melhor, seres individuais, eram agentes histÃricos e sociais em seu tempo. à exatamente nesse perÃodo que a educaÃÃo à vista como um apanÃgio dos males sociais. Civilizar-se, higienizar-se, modernizar-se, educar-se eram as tÃnicas no Brasil do sÃculo XIX. à por estes tempos, o final do sÃculo XIX, que os intelectuais e setores mÃdios urbanos embarcam no entusiasmo pela educaÃÃo. Eram ao nosso ver o Padeiros-Educadores, Escritores-cidadÃo, fazendo literatura como missÃo.

O presente trabalho ressalta as valiosas contribuiÃÃes do romance O CortiÃo, de AluÃsio Azevedo para a compreensÃo do contexto social fluminense de final de sÃculo XIX. O CortiÃo à um painel em que se vislumbram vÃrios tipos representativos da Ãpoca. A obra narra o cotidiano, em Botafogo, dos habitantes de uma estalagem e de um sobrado a ela vizinho, sendo um rico apanhado de flagrantes das realidades afetivas experimentadas pelos personagens. As relaÃÃes familiares e suas conseqÃÃncias tematizam o assunto aqui tratado. SÃo postas em evidÃncia as diversas formas de interaÃÃo entre os personagens do romance, inclusive as que envolvem o adultÃrio e a prostituiÃÃo. AtravÃs de uma anÃlise do comportamento dos personagens, a pesquisa busca comprovar as teses do determinismo social e genÃtico defendidas pelo autor. Utilizando o mÃtodo investigativo hermenÃutico, o estudo partiu do texto literÃrio para a anÃlise do tema proposto, analisando a concretizaÃÃo verbal obtida por AluÃsio Azevedo, nesse particular, e valendo-se ainda do aporte teÃrico de textos ligados à Sociologia e à HistÃria. / This study highlights the valuable contributions of the novel O CortiÃo of AluÃsio Azevedo for understanding the social context of Rio de Janeiro at the end of the nineteenth century. O CortiÃo is a panel that comes out several representative types of the time. The book recounts the everyday, of an inn house in Botafogo. The residents of her neighbor, and a rich collection of blatant emotional realities experienced by the characters. Family relationships and their consequences guide the subject matter hereof. They are drawn to the various forms of interaction between the characters in the novel, including those involving adultery and prostitution. Through an analysis of the behavior of the characters, the research aims at the thesis of social and genetic determinism advocated by the author. Using the investigative method of interpretation, the study came from literary text to the analysis of the subject, the verbal context obtained by AluÃsio Azevedo, and the advantage of the theoretical texts related to sociology and history.

FundaÃÃo de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Cearà / As letras da lei x a lei das letras: Exames de Capacidade Profissional e a InstruÃÃo PÃblica na ProvÃncia do Cearà (1856-1888). Este trabalho investiga, a partir dos exames de Capacidade Profissional, diversas temÃticas pertinentes ao ensino primÃrio. Iniciando por compreender o prÃprio ensino primÃrio, seus mestres bem como os meandros do processo de seleÃÃo do magistÃrio pÃblico. Discutindo a construÃÃo dos conteÃdos e as formas como os mestres se expressavam em seus exames. A presente pesquisa descreve os processos de construção espacial teatral realizados pelo Grupo XIX de Teatro a fim de apresentar os procedimentos utilizados para a efetivação de uma poética característica no trabalho da direção de arte, aqui abordado como sendo a concepção visual de um ambiente, englobando espaço, iluminação, indumentária e adereços. Ao reconstruir cada experiência, analiso as etapas do fazer teatral em consonância com a ocupação de espaços específicos. O caráter investigativo das propostas abrangem elementos relacionais, como o entorno, as características arquitetônicas, a comunidade e a própria cidade como participantes da visualidade e funcionamento da cena. Os três espetáculos criados pelo grupo constituem, deste modo, situações distintas que mantém, contudo, uma continuidade evolutiva. Percorrê-los em sua feitura e resultado permite compreender a diversidade e liberdade destas ações, assim como perceber como as operações realizadas pela direção de arte transformam-se à medida que as propostas e condições solicitam. / The present study describes the processes of theatrical space construction made by the Grupo XIX de Teatro, in order to present the procedures for the realization of a poetry featuring the unique work of art direction, defined as the visual conception of a environment, including space, light, costumes and props. To reconstruct each experiment, I analyze the steps of the theatrical development in line with the occupation of specific spaces. The investigative character of the proposals include relational factors such as the surroundings, the architectural features, the community and the city itself as active participants to the scenes and visual context. The three spectacles created by the Grupo XIX de Teatro are distinct cases, however, they maintain a continuing evolution. Their making process and final results allow us to understand the diversity and freedom of those actions, as well as perceiving how art direction can transform the operations due to the proposals and conditions applying.

Tomando como ponto de partida a inserção dos processos de independência luso e hispano-americanos como parte de uma mesma conjuntura revolucionária mundial, a presente pesquisa aborda as trocas de experiências políticas entre o Vice- Reino do Peru e a América Portuguesa no contexto mencionado. Investiga-se a leitura do mundo luso-americano na imprensa e na política hispano-peruana entre os anos de 1808 e 1822, aventando a possibilidade de que o compartilhamento de experiências políticas entre o Vice-Reino do Peru e a América portuguesa possa ter influenciado as percepções, os projetos e as reações desses espaços diante da crise do Antigo Regime na América / The present research approaches the exchanges of political experiences between the Vice-Reign of Peru and the Portuguese America during their independence processes, starting from the assumption that they were part of the same world revolutionary conjuncture. The Vice-Reign of Peru and the Portuguese America are seen in relation to their reciprocal determination in this context, focusing on the reading of the Luso-American world in the Peruvian press and politics between 1808 and 1822. It seeks to understand how the sharing of experiences between the Vice-Reign of Peru and the Portuguese America influenced the perceptions, the projections, and the reactions of these spaces towards the crisis of the Ancient Regimen in the Portuguese America

O presente trabalho se propõe a observar e analisar os encontros entre o Brasil e o México durante seus processos de independência (1808-1822), entendendo que, por meio desses encontros ambos trocaram experiências políticas em meio a uma mesma unidade histórica. Os espaços americanos escolhidos foram estudados a partir da leitura do mundo lusoamericano na imprensa periódica da Nova Espanha. No entanto, o olhar sobre o fenômeno contrário também foi objeto deste estudo. Assim, buscamos compreender os pontos de contato político, entre o Brasil e o México, em meio à crise do Antigo Regime no mundo ocidental. / This present study aims to observe and analyze the meetings between Brazil and Mexico during their process of independence (1808-1822), understanding that, through these meetings both exchanged political experiences between a historic same unit. The chosen American spaces were studied from reading lusoamerican world in the periodical press of New Spain. However, the look on the opposite phenomenon was also the subject of this study. So, we seek to understand the political points of contact between Brazil and Mexico, through the crisis of the Old Regime in the Western world.

Esta dissertação analisa as descrições populacionais escritas por Richard Francis Burton entre os anos de 1849 e 1869, publicadas em seus relatos de viagem sobre as regiões da Índia, Península Arábica, África Oriental, Central e Ocidental, e Brasil (viagens realizadas entre 1847 e 1867). O objetivo deste trabalho é notar as transformações nestas descrições e relacioná-las ao lugar de autoridade, à experiência da viagem e à alguns conceitos oriundos da etnologia e antropologia inglesa por volta deste período. A hipótese é que estes elementos interagem na construção do texto do autor e que a compreensão do conteúdo destas descrições torna-se bastante mais efetiva quando se considera esta interação. As posições ambíguas de Burton em especial quanto aos debates entre opções teóricas monogênicas e poligênicas tornam-se mais compreensíveis a partir do ponto de vista que analisa suas descrições através da observação destes três elementos. / This dissertation analyses the populational descriptions written by Richard Francis Burton between 1849 and 1869, published in his books of travel above the regions of India, Arabic Peninsula, East, Central and West Africa, and Brazil (travels achieved between 1847-1867). The aim of this work is to note the transformations in these descriptions and connect them with the authority position, the experience of each travel, and the production of British ethnology and anthropology around those years. The hypothesis is that these elements interact in the construction of the author’s writings, and that the understanding of these descriptions’ contents become much more effective when this interaction is considered. Burton’s ambiguous positions, specially on the debates between monogenic and poligenic theoretic options, become more understandable when observed by the point of view which analyses his descriptions throughout the observation of these three elements.

Este mestrado tem por objetivo o estudo sobre a atuação das Senhoras do Açúcar, que poderiam ser tanto proprietárias quanto as esposas de donos de engenhos, em Itu do final do século XVIII a meados do século XIX. A documentação escolhida reúne inventários, testamentos, mapas com relações de engenhos, recenseamento dos bens rústicos e registros de notas de imóveis, cujas informações permitiram obter dados para uma análise bastante ampla do tema em pauta. A pesquisa insere-se no campo de estudos relativos à História das Mulheres, voltando-se para a análise das distinções e semelhanças entre aquelas do período e a sua situação específica neste contexto histórico. O trabalho, no entanto, não se limita apenas à uma História das Mulheres na economia canavieira de Itu, mas busca, sobretudo, uma oportunidade de dialogar com a historiografia brasileira sobre temas mais abrangentes, como a própria formação econômica de São Paulo. / This work has for objective the study on the performance of the sugar Ladies who could be proprietors or wives of owners of sugar mill in the city of Itu in the late XVIII or middle XIX. The chosen documentation congregates inventories, testaments, maps with relations of sugar mills, census of the rustic goods and registers of properties, whose information had allowed to get data for a sufficiently ample and complete analysis of the subject in guideline. The research is inserted in the field of studies of the History of the Women, turning itself to the analysis of the distinctions and similarities between those of the period and its specific situation in this historical context. The work, however, does not limit only to a History of the Women in the sugar economy of Itu, but it searchs an opportunity to dialogue with the Brazilian historiography in reference of more including subjects, as the proper economic formation of São Paulo.
