Negotiating family planning radio messages among Malawian rural men of traditional authority Kadewere, Chiradzulo district

Ntaba, Jolly Maxwell January 2012 (has links)
Family planning campaigns, using the media among other advocacy interventions, are produced and disseminated by both government and nongovernment organizations in Malawi, with an aim of reducing fertility and promotion of reproductive health. This qualitative audience study looks specifically at the reception by rural men of radio broadcast Public Service Announcements produced by the NGO, Banja La Mtsogolo, a leading provider of family planning services and products based in Blantyre. The aim of the study is to understand how the appropriation of these messages relates to traditional concepts of gender, masculinity and kinship within an area that has not been spared the influences, values and accoutrements of modernity. Underpinned by Hall’s encoding and decoding model, the study reveals that at most men make an oppositional reading of the texts based on their lived and shared cultural experiences. The results show that while people understand and appreciate the importance of family planning, cultural and traditional influences play a major role in how these messages are appropriated by and incorporated into the everyday lives of their listeners. Given the above understandings, the research asks what are the implications for the success of family-planning media campaigns by government and other non-governmental organisations such as Banja La Mtsogolo

As tramas empedradas de uma psicopatologia juvenil

Cunda, Mateus Freitas January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the scenario of use and abuse of crack which pervades the press as well as Brazilian youth psychopathology nowadays. The analysis begins by building a scene of rocks, with the characterization of the plot and the actors involved in it. The goal is to undo the established epidemic scenario by identifying the concepts, facts and stories that, sparsely, solidify the issue. Above all, we intend to suspend the names and fictional truths that fill in the subject-object of this scene and which, so strongly, make it disappear in a circuit of exclusion.

Campanhas de prevenção HIV/AIDS : multimodalidade da linguagem e modelos culturais

Rocha, Sheila da 30 June 2015 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-10-21T17:20:12Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Sheila da Rocha.pdf: 3934207 bytes, checksum: 8b5ff522622d2bcba744140aa72925ed (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-10-21T17:20:12Z (GMT). In view of that, the guidelines indicated by models of care and public health policies in Brazil were investigated, notably in the case of AIDS. The study also evaluates how social marketing works in an attempt to create better living conditions for all through the use of advertising as a tool to help spreading these concepts. In this research, metaphors and multimodal metonymies, hich appeal to several regions with different characteristics, are brought to light and analyzed. This approach method is used to observe how the advertising language uses these features to provoke reactions of attitudinal and behavioral nature on the target audience. In order to meet this proposition, a corpus was built with the use of eight posters and two billboards of advertising campaigns that were spread in different parts of the country between 2009 and 2015, more than 30 years after the emergence of the epidemic. The study is based on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory proposed by George Lakoff, Mark Johnson and associated authors, as well as in studies of multimodality especially developed by Charles Forceville and other authors cited in the course of the analysis. Through this study is possible to conclude that verbal and visual metaphors/metonymies show regional, cultural and identity traces, bringing together the language of the target audience and highlighting specifics that drive the perceptual process of receivers, which contributes to the effectiveness of the messages that stimulate change of habits and behaviors.

Towards outcome evaluation : a study of public relations evaluation in the Australian Federal Government, 1995

Charlton, Andrea, n/a January 1996 (has links)
The Australian Federal government has well-defined guidelines for undertaking program evaluations. Advertising and Public Relations campaigns support program aims, and are subject to the same guidelines. However, an examination of actual practice in the Australian Federal government, as observed by the Office of Government Information and Advertising in Canberra, suggests that there are significant differences in the extent to which Public Relations campaigns, as opposed to advertising campaigns, are systematically evaluated. Evaluation theory, Public Relations theory, strategic planning theory, and public administration theory provide insights into methods of managing and reporting on communication campaigns designed to forward government objectives. A literature review and an assessment of existing models of Public Relations evaluation were undertaken, and a synthesis of several theoretical and practical approaches led to the construction of a model of Public Relations evaluation which could be applied to Australian government communication campaigns.

Varumärkesaktivism som verktyg : En kvalitativ studie om varumärkesaktivism och varumärkesidentitetens roll i kampanjer / Brand activism as a tool : A qualitative study of brand activism and the role of brand identity in campaigns

Thordén, Emilia, Sagebrand, Nina, Lindenhall, Beatrice January 2021 (has links)
The trend to take a stand in campaigns has been identified as an upcoming phenomenon and the term brand activism has been discovered in the context. One of the challenges that brands are facing is to keep the core identity and at the same time communicate responsible positions that consumers demand without getting inauthentic. Since little or no research has been done from the brand's perspective the study has found a research gap that could be filled by examining how their brand identity and political or social messages affect their campaigns. The purpose of the study is to look at three brands and their campaigns in relation to their brand identity and their role within the campaigns. Furthermore, the study investigates if there are any connections between brands taking a stand and brand activism. To achieve the aim of this research, a qualitative method has been conducted based on semi-structured interviews with three types of brands and an expert in communication. The results showed that brand activism in some cases has been used as a tool for brands to challenge structures and cause a dialogue, but the result also identified how brands manage to stay authentic while communicating societal issues.

Advertising to the Hispanic community : an intercultural communication approach

Glazebrook, Jonathon R. 01 January 2005 (has links)
This study investigates the ways in which advertisers employ acculturation and intercultural communication tactics when targeting advertising campaigns to Hispanic consumers. The study focused on three research questions regarding (1) how advertisers adapt marketing plans to account for the differences in the dominant Hispanic subgroups, (2) the role of the target audience's level of acculturation on the planning of an advertising campaign, and (3) how advertisers employ accommodation strategies when constructing advertising messages for Hispanics. The study utilized personal interviews with eight advertising professionals from various markets across the country to answer the research questions. The results of the study indicated that (1) advertisers frequently rely on similarities among the various Hispanic groups when planning advertising campaigns, (2) a Pan-Hispanic approach is used in the language of many advertising campaigns that target Hispanics, and (3) advertisers seek to formulate messages that resonate with Hispanics based on knowledge of the target audience's values and beliefs.
