"We want to get down to the nitty-gritty": The Modern Hardboiled Detective in the Novella FormPack, Kendall G. 01 May 2015 (has links)
This thesis approaches the issue of the detective in the 21st century through the parodic novella form. The main body of the work is a piece of fiction about an amateur detective trying to find a solution to an imagined crime. This comes from my study of detective fiction, starting with Oedipus and ending with twentieth and twenty-first century examples, especially in the works of Thomas Pynchon and Chester Himes, where the detective loses power. The novella follows Whitney Sloat as he acts as detective in a world that can’t let go of the hardboiled traditions. He and the people around him struggle to connect with reality, pursuing a way of life that cannot exist outside of their world.

Fritt skapande eller fritt från skapande? : En studie om bild och form i förskolanHolmberg, Elina, Sondell, Karin January 2019 (has links)
Syftet med denna studie var att få ökad förståelse för hur arbetet med bild och form som ett grundläggande uppdrag och ämnesområde i förskolans verksamhet kan tolkas, hanteras och ta sig uttryck i förskolan. Frågeställningarna som studien har utgått ifrån är synen på-, arbetet med-, samt möjligheter med bild och form i förskolan. För att besvara frågeställningarna användes intervju som metod. Sammanlagt genomfördes kvalitativa intervjuer med nio förskollärare vid åtta olika förskolor i två kommuner. Studien tar stöd i den sociokulturella teorin. Resultatet visar att synen på bild och form varierar mellan förskollärarna och även att arbetet med bild och form ter sig olika ute i förskolorna. Ytterligare något som framkommer i resultatet är att förskollärarna ser fler möjligheter än hinder när det kommer till arbetet med bild och form i förskolan. Införandet av begreppet utbildning i den nya läroplanen visar sig dock ha medfört osäkerhet inför förskolans uppdrag när det kommer till estetiska ämnen kontra traditionella kunskapsämnen.

Floats. In weaving, they serve as a base for fundamental bindings such as twill or satin; they can also be considered as an error. Although more experimental floating threads have been a subject of exploration for many creators, their use in interior-oriented textiles is still rare. Basing on the possibilities offered by the Jacquard weaving technology, this project aims to investigate the aesthetic properties of floats. It was done through a systematic development of near-field and far-field structures as well as colour and yarn research. The investigation resulted in a collection of five textile objects, displaying different visual expressions achieved by the use of floats. Furthermore, by placing the woven pieces in a spatial context, Floating in focus aims to challenge the prevailing perception of interior textiles. Shape exploration of the collection is an attempt to find new ways of integrating woven textiles in space, somewhere between architecture and archetypical interior textiles such as blankets, pillows or upholstery.

Does the managers’ form of employment matter? A qualitative study of the form of employment’s significance to a managerial appointment The aim of this study is to examine the experiences and attitudes of managers with regards to the significance of the specific terms of their employment. To achieve this, a qualitative approach was deemed to be suitable and a thematic analysis was conducted. Ten middle managers at a Swedish County Council with contrasting terms of employment (permanent positions and short-term managerial appointments) were interviewed over a two week period. To complement the thematic analysis, a theoretic framework and previous research were considered and used. The study found that there is a strong preference among the managers towards a permanent form of employment rather than short-term managerial appointments. The analysis, on the other hand, found that the terms of employment had a negligible impact on the managers’ actual work, whereas it impacted the managers’ perception of their own ‘managerial value’ and their perceived importance to the organisation. On the other hand, our study has shown that the form of employment can also affect the work and organisation. Finally, the study found that this particular field of research is yet to be fully explored and thus further research is needed to reach a greater understanding of the effects of the form of employment to the individual manager, the organisation and its workers.

Detta examensarbete skrevs vårterminen 2023 på institutionen för bild och slöjdpedagogik på Konstfack. Studien har sin utgångspunkt i att utforska bildgenereringsprogrammet Midjourney för att försöka förstå hur den kan användas i potentiellt utbildningssammanhang inom bildämnena på gymnasieskolan. Den empiri som samlades in var bilder och samtal från en Bild- & formklass i Stockholm som under en workshop försöka efterlikna statyn Nike från Samothrake. Efter avslutad workshop fick informanterna diskutera i grupper om vad de tror bildgenereringsprogram kan vara användbart för. I samtalen lyftes olika idéer om hur programmet kan användas för bland annat skapandet för förlagor och komma med förslag för att hjälpa till i större bildskaparprocesser. Genom att analysera de bilder och texter som informanterna skapat kunde det ses att programmet Midjourney har vissa ramar när den genererar bilder. Många av bilderna blev inte som informanterna påstår sig ha beskrivit vilket har lett in på att programmet kan användas som ett redskap för att undervisa bland annat bildbeskrivning och fackmässigt språk inom ämnena bild. Studien resulterar på att trots att programmet kan vara förrädiskt när den genererar bilder så är den till en stor resurs inom bildundervisningen både för lärare och elever. Studien gestaltades under Konstfacks vårutställning 2023 som ett bildspel där 100 kända konstverk från konsthistorien blivit tolkade av en serie olika artificiella intelligenser. Verksbeskrivningarna var skapade av chattbotten Chat-GPT som sedan tolkats av bildgenereringsprogrammet Midjourney. Bilderna visades samtidigt som talprogrammet Speechgen läste upp beskrivningarna för åskådarna. Bilderna som visades var av olika kvalité där några var väldigt lika sina förlagor medan andra var väldigt långt ifrån vilket ibland var näst intill humoristiskt. Tanken med verkat var att förmedla hur bildgenerering text- till bild fungerar och låta åskådaren att fundera över den människliga inblandningen i bildmaterial skapat med AI samt vart utvecklingen är på väg inom bildskapandet.

Halo Nuclei Interactions Using Effective Field TheoryFernando, Lakma K (Lakma Kaushalya) 17 August 2013 (has links)
Effective field theory (EFT) provides a framework to exploit separation of scales in the physical system in order to perform systematic model-independent calculations. There has been significant interest in applying the methods of EFT to halo nuclei. Using halo effective field theory, I provide a model-independent calculation of the radiative neutron capture on lithium-7 over an energy range where the contribution from the 3+ resonance becomes important. This reaction initiate the sequence in the carbon-nitrogen-oxygen (CNO) cycle in the inhomogeneous BBN models, and determine the amount of heavy element production from its reaction rate. One finds that a satisfactory description of the capture reaction, in the present single-particle approximation, suggests the use of a resonance width about three times larger than the experimental value. Power counting arguments that establish a hierarchy for the electromagnetic one- and two-body currents is also presented. The neutron capture of Lithium7 calculation has direct impact on the proton capture on beryllium7 which plays an important role in the neutrino experiments studying physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. As a further study of halo nuclei interactions, the cross section of radiative capture of a neutron by carbon-14 is calculated by considering the dominant contribution from electric dipole transition. This is also a part of the CNO cycle and as the slowest reaction in the chain it limits the flow of the production of heavier nuclei A > 14. The cross section is expressed in terms of the elastic scattering parameters of an effective range expansion. Contributions from both the resonant and non-resonant interactions are calculated. Significant interferences between these leads to a capture contribution that deviates from a simple Breit-Wigner resonance form. Using EFT, I present electromagnetic form factors of several halo nuclei. The magnetic dipole moment and the charge radii of carbon-15, beryllium-11, and carbon-19 halo systems are considered. Prediction is made for the magnetic moment in the leading order. I can only provide some estimates for the form factors in next-to-leading order where two-body currents appear. The estimates are based on power counting unless the effective range and the magnetic moment are known. Charge radii for three systems have also been estimated at LO and NLO.

The present study focuses on students at two Swedish secondary schools and the pronunciation errors that are the most prominent during reception and production of specific speech sounds. The primary focus of this degree paper is to establish whether or not certain speech sounds such as e.g. the /tʃ/ sound, which do not occur in the Swedish language in initial position are difficult or not and whether or not they act as an obstacle for Swedish students learning English as their L2. The aim was to establish which specific pronunciation errors that occurred in the L2 language classroom. Since this was the aim, primarily quantitative studies were carried out at two secondary schools in southern Sweden. The results from the four different tests show that the tested Swedish L2 students seem to have a greater difficulty with speech sounds placed in initial position than in final position of a specific word. According to this degree paper this is due to the fact that the Swedish language does not have an equivalent to the difficult speech sound in initial position, therefore making it difficult and often resulting in negative transfer from the L1. Furthermore, the English sounds that posed the biggest problems for the students were ones that sometimes can be found in the Swedish language. These sounds were very similar to native sounds creating a challenge for the Swedish students when perceiving and producing the English sounds. However, it was shown that when these sounds were presented in a context, they proved to be less challenging for the students to receive and produce. Moreover, although the syllabus only mentions that communication should be functional, there still needs to be an element of focus on form in order to become a proficient language user.
