Mechanisms Regulating Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel A1 (TRPA1) and Their Roles in Nociception and Nociceptive Sensitization

Shang, Ye 26 June 2020 (has links)
Nociception is the sensory nervous system that detects harmful stimuli including excessive heat, cold, toxic chemicals, and noxious mechanical stimulations. Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are a group of evolutionarily conserved ion channels consisting of 4 subunits, each with 6 transmembrane spans, and detect a variety of external and internal nociceptive stimuli. Due to their critical roles in nociception, it is essential to understand the mechanisms that regulate TRP channels and subsequent nociception. Here, I investigated two distinct types of regulation of Drosophila transient receptor potential cation channel A1 (TrpA1): regulation via the expression of different TrpA1 isoforms, and via its binding with associated proteins. I found that one of the TrpA1 isoforms, TrpA1(E), inhibits the thermal responses of other TrpA1 isoforms in vitro. I also identified potential TrpA1 binding partners through Co- immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and mass spectrometry analysis. These binding partners need further validation and characterization through biochemical, cellular, and behavioral assays to illustrate their roles in nociception, and may serve as potential drug targets for chronic pain.

Dadell, Hampus January 2022 (has links)
Den ekonomiska uppskattningen borde utvecklas till en mer omfattande kalkyl för att ge en bättre uppskattning över projektet riktiga kostnad i helhet / Protection against water and dust is very important in the manufacture of enclosures for electrical enclosures. Access to testing equipment that tests for water and dust protection provides efficiency, quality and cost savings in the production of electrical enclosures. With higher performance from companies, greater progress can be made, with benefits in terms of development and environmental savings. This project has been initiated when the company Elkapsling AB realised the need for its own testing equipment regarding water and dust protection. The aim was to save time and costs for testing of own products. The project is carried out as a degree project for the Mechanical Engineering Program (TMPRG) at Mid Sweden University in Östersund. The goal was to produce a design for equipment for Elkapsling AB that meets the requirements and wishes they have given. The equipment was developed using product development methodology in project phases where progress from milestones was reported in the form of reconciliation with Elkapsling AB spontaneously as needed during the course of the project. The results of the project come in the form of design documentation of a dust chamber for testing dust protection, tools for testing water protection and proposed solutions of water reuse. This creates conditions of efficiency and long-term saving of money. This can also contribute to more efficient production of improved products from Elkapsling AB. Before equipment can be realized, tests and more standardization of components and other adaptations to Elkapsling AB's own needs are required. The financial estimate should be developed into a more comprehensive calculation to give a better estimate of the true cost of the project as a whole. / <p>2022-07-01</p>

Service discovery for Personal Area Networks

Ayrault, Cécile January 2004 (has links)
With the increasing use of electronic devices, the need for affordable wireless services specifically context-aware services, in a so-called Personal Area Network (PAN) is becoming an area with significant potential. Service discovery is a basic function. Even though a number of service discovery protocols have been implemented, a specific protocol for a PAN environment may need to be developed, as the characteristics of a PANs differ from other networking environments. Thus, the specific requirements for service discovery from a PAN perspective were studied. Methods for service discovery will be described that take into account both local and remote services. These methods will then be evaluated in a SIP telephony infrastructure to decide where a call should be delivered. The location of a person is done by using the implemented service discovery.

Adaptive Real-time Anomaly Detection for Safeguarding Critical Networks

Ring Burbeck, Kalle January 2006 (has links)
Critical networks require defence in depth incorporating many different security technologies including intrusion detection. One important intrusion detection approach is called anomaly detection where normal (good) behaviour of users of the protected system is modelled, often using machine learning or data mining techniques. During detection new data is matched against the normality model, and deviations are marked as anomalies. Since no knowledge of attacks is needed to train the normality model, anomaly detection may detect previously unknown attacks. In this thesis we present ADWICE (Anomaly Detection With fast Incremental Clustering) and evaluate it in IP networks. ADWICE has the following properties: (i) Adaptation - Rather than making use of extensive periodic retraining sessions on stored off-line data to handle changes, ADWICE is fully incremental making very flexible on-line training of the model possible without destroying what is already learnt. When subsets of the model are not useful anymore, those clusters can be forgotten. (ii) Performance - ADWICE is linear in the number of input data thereby heavily reducing training time compared to alternative clustering algorithms. Training time as well as detection time is further reduced by the use of an integrated search-index. (iii) Scalability - Rather than keeping all data in memory, only compact cluster summaries are used. The linear time complexity also improves scalability of training. We have implemented ADWICE and integrated the algorithm in a software agent. The agent is a part of the Safeguard agent architecture, developed to perform network monitoring, intrusion detection and correlation as well as recovery. We have also applied ADWICE to publicly available network data to compare our approach to related works with similar approaches. The evaluation resulted in a high detection rate at reasonable false positives rate. / <p>Report code: LiU-Tek-Lic-2006:12.</p>

Individuell processhandledning

Berglind, Cecilia, Sundberg, Eva January 2012 (has links)

System Design of an Integrated Terrestrial-Satellite Communications Network for Disaster Recovery

Loo, Suem Ping 08 June 2004 (has links)
This thesis describes a possible integrated terrestrial-satellite network system for disaster recovery and response. The motivation of this thesis was based on the adjacent spectrum allocations between the Virginia Tech terrestrial Local Multiple Distribution Service (LMDS) system and a Ka-band satellite system, and potentially being able to provide as an additional Ka-band satellite network backbone to the Virginia Tech terrestrial LMDS system for better and faster communications deployments. The Spaceway satellite system's design parameters were adopted typically for a Ka-band satellite system. The LMDS system was assumed to use IEEE 802.16 standard protocols although it currently uses its own proprietary protocols. Four possible topologies integrating both terrestrial and satellite network were investigated. The study showed that the task was more problematic and complicated than anticipated due to incompatible network protocols, limitations of available hardware components, the high path loss at Ka-band, and the high cost of the equipment, although the adjacent frequency bands do suggest a possible integrated network. In this thesis, the final selected topology was proposed and designed. The technical characteristics of the earth station used for coupling both terrestrial and satellite networks were determined by a link budget analysis and a consideration of network implementations. The reflector antenna used by the earth station was designed. In addition, other system design concerns and engineering tradeoffs, including adjacent satellite interference, rain attenuation, antenna pointing error, noise temperature, and modulation and multiple access selection, were addressed. / Master of Science
