Encontros terapêuticos com gestantes à luz da preocupação materna primária / Therapeutic encounters with pregnant women under the lights of primary maternal preoccupation

Tania Mara Marques Granato 06 November 2000 (has links)
Considering that the construction of knowledge in Clinical Psychology requires from the beginning the integration of an investigative posture with the possibility of being present before the other, I made use of the winnicottian concept of Primary Maternal Preoccupation like a lighthouse that guides the psychologist in her approach to the woman’s emotional experiences during pregnancy and postpartum. During the researcher task I encountered therapeutic alternatives. Hypothesis and working modalities came out from the data: interviews, letters, phone calls and home visits. The field of maternity presented itself extremely fertile, requiring though some basic tools in order to be fecundated, such as: flexibility to meet needs, holding all sorts of agonies, humility before of our own ignorance, true preoccupation with the patient and respect for her being.

This Master thesis explores the subject of couple infidelity using psychoanalysis. It provides an in-depth comprehension of the psychological mechanisms involved on a loving-unfaithful couple relationship. Based on the contemporary works of Otto Kernberg (1995a, 1995b), Lucinda Mitchell (2000) and Lawrence Josephs (2006), conflicts derived from loving relationships are studied. A qualitative methodology was used to formulate a psychodynamic comprehension of two case studies. Data was obtained through psychoanalytical short term psychotherapy and through the results from Object Relations Test (Phillipson, 2008). The study identified that long term infidelity has its origins in pre-oedipal issues related to the avoidance of deepening the romantic relationship and to the frightening experience of losing primitive parental objects. This article aims at improving the theoretical framework to study loving relationships, as well as the clinical practice of psychoanalytical psychotherapy.

Meaning-making and the wilderness experience: an examination using a constructive-developmental lens

Pollock, Curtis J. 29 April 2019 (has links)
Wilderness Experience Programs (WEPs) take youth into wilderness settings in order to teach wilderness travel and leadership, expand personal capacity, and equip youth with coping skills in order to manage life’s difficulties. Though considerable research has been conducted on WEPs, no one has sought to understand the student experience these programs provide through a constructive-developmental lens (Kegan, 1982, 1994). The purpose of this case study was to explore, describe, assess, and understand–using the framework of Robert Kegan’s (1982, 1994) constructive-developmental theory–the impact a 21-day wilderness backpacking experience had on five participating youth. The researcher believed that understanding how participants in a wilderness backpacking course make sense of their experience through the lens of their constructive-developmental perspective might help inform the theories of change that underpin WEPs, the means by which desired change is facilitated, and the reasons why some youth thrive and others struggle. This exploratory study utilized a case study approach. The researcher embedded as a participant-observer for the duration on a 21-day backpacking course with Outward Bound Canada in the Ghost River Wilderness, Alberta, Canada. Nine youth participated in the expedition, with five male students volunteering as research participants. Pre-trip and post-trip administrations of the Subject-Object Interview and post-expedition semi-structured interviews were conducted with each research participant. Additionally, the researcher made field observations and wrote field notes. The subsequent analysis produced in-depth profiles of each research participant’s experience of the course, pre and post expedition scores from the Subject-Object Interviews, and a description of how each research participant’s experience might be understood through the lens of their constructive-developmental perspective. Although no significant changes to constructive-developmental perspective were realized, implications of these analyses were discussed, conclusions were drawn, and recommendations were made. / Graduate

The Psychic Work of Reading: Form and Unconscious Affect in the Wake of Modernism

Amoretti, Valerio January 2019 (has links)
This dissertation articulates the relationship between literary form and unconscious affect in fictions by Cesare Pavese, Samuel Beckett and Alain Robbe-Grillet. Drawing from contemporary psychoanalytic object-relations theory, including the work of W.R. Bion and the Bionian school, it defines three paradigmatic forms of psychic work — reparation, containment and construction — that structure the intersubjective unconscious responses to specific formal challenges. It claims that the psychic work involved in meeting those challenges is both “historical” — in the sense that it reveals elements of each text’s historicity and political valence within their cultural setting — and “productive,” in the sense that it entails a degree of psychic growth for the reader. This dissertation bridges literary history, psychoanalytic theory and reader-response theory. It seeks to intervene in each discipline’s debates: in literary-historical terms, it argues that the psychic work of reading must be understood as constitutive of the texts’ expression of the context of the postwar and as part of their struggle to move beyond the aesthetic of modernism. In psychoanalytic terms, it joins in the lively discussion about the historical specificity of the mechanisms theorized by object-relations theory. Finally, at the level of literary theory, it seeks to affirm the value of Bion’s model of object-relations in theorizing reading as a transformative process characterized by intense unconscious, intersubjective activity. The dissertation is organized in three literary chapters, followed by a theoretical chapter. Taken together, the first three chapters represent the evidence for the need of a concept of psychic work in reading late modernist fiction and for the potential payoffs of formulating such a concept. Chapter 4 consists of four theoretical “notes,” addressing, in broad terms, the resonance of intersubjective notions of psychic work for reading, criticism and literary theory.

Janine Antoni: Finding a Room of Her Own

Lindner, Stacie M. 04 December 2006 (has links)
Janine Antoni's object- and performance-based works draw from multiple influences including feminism and conceptualism, and in these works the artist has fashioned an investigation of the self through the examination of the mother/child dyad, creating a more than fourteen-year body of work about these relationships that explore the implications of feminine imagery. Antoni’s works are an effort to distinguish her body as a feminine subject-object, but also to identify with as well as separate herself from the mother. While she is a conceptual artist, Antoni puts great emphasis on materiality. For her, the concept defines itself within the materials, and it is the process of the making that interests her most, empowering what is traditionally overlooked, forgotten, or disempowered. As she alternately separates from and connects with the mother and the foremothers of the artistic heritage that have surely contributed to establishing this identity, Antoni allows new images of the female to be made visible in a culture where they have traditionally been lacking.

¡§Naked Wolf¡¨- the Anima/Animus and the Symbols of Eileen Chang and Her Works: ¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea¡¨ as the Main Focus

Syu, Shun-jie 26 August 2009 (has links)
¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea¡¨ is one of the earliest published works of Eileen Chang. However, the autobiographic fiction which focuses its topic on ¡§looking for Father¡¨ has not been valued by the academic circle for a long time. In fact, ¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea¡¨ is the center text(centext) among Eileen Chang¡¦s works. She semioticizes this work according to its plot and then makes these elements metaphors of her later works. This is the key to discussions about the hypertextuality between the texts of Eileen Chang and the phenomenonal world. By using a new approach of criticism called ¡§the School of Super Searching,¡¨ this discourse attempts to blend the research achievements of modern anthropology, psychology and folkloristics into traditional searching, to do gender studies by searching ¡§psychological facts,¡¨ and to focus on the intertextuality between the plot of the fiction and the folk data. By means of the motive tied with folktales and folk customs, and of the related significant notions like misogyny, twins complex, endogamy desire, liminality and initiation rite, divine king and scapegoat, and individuation process, with a close reading on the text of ¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea,¡¨ this discourse explores how the pieces of symbolism and meaning in the text associate with the life experiences of Eileen Chang. The issues dealt by this discourse are as follows: 1. Lead a large amount of anthropological concepts into literary criticism, and make intertextual comparison between ethnography and literary works. 2. Clarify the countervailing process between masculinity and femininity in ¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea¡¨ by means of the connotative plot structures of the fairy tales, ¡§Iron John¡¨ and ¡§Little Red Riding-Hood,¡¨ in the text. Men gradually construct masculinity by adopting male violence in order to get rid of maternal swallowing and paternal castration. 3. The practical operatoins of Jung¡¦s theory in literary criticism: (1) Twins complex is an important complex to present the relationship between ego and Anima/Animus. (2) Synchronicity and the possibility of predictive text(predictext). (3) Clarification on the relationship between ¡§sukuu¡¨ and the self. (4) Application of the participation mystique on the narrative point of view. 4. Apollo¡¦s Neuroses- Reinterpretation of the implication for the incest by Oedipus in the texts of Eileen Chang. 5. There exists an association between fowls as the symbol of twins complex and Eileen Chang¡¦s family. 6. The riddle about Eileen Chang in her late years is an individuation process from putting on the wolf¡¦s skin to taking it off. 7. The comparison between the autobiographic works, ¡§Jasmine Flavored Tea¡¨ and Little Reunion.

Évaluation du rôle modérateur de l’intégration des Relations d’Objet dans la relation entre l’Urgence Négative et les comportements impulsifs dirigés contre soi et autrui

Henry, Anne 04 1900 (has links)
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by negative Urgency, one of the impulsivity facets. However the model of personality traits can’t explain the varieties of expression and severity of impulsive behaviors which can be directed against self or others in BPD. Integrating the object relations model with the personality traits leads to an improved understanding of this variability. In object relations theory, identity diffusion is specific to borderline organization. It is characterized by a lack of integration of the conceptions of self and others derived from an excessive split between positive and negative affects invested in self and others images. This diffusion is associated with a deficit of Ego and Superego structures. Level of identity integration would modulate the relationship between high negative urgency and the forms and severity of impulsive behaviors. This study is the first to evaluate this hypothesis. Data collected from students sample have not demonstrated any moderating effect because of some limitations in the study. Nevertheless, the Identity diffusion index was as expected negatively correlated with many variables related to impulsivity such as borderline impulsivity (r=-.23), physical aggression (r=-.31), urgency trait (r=-.31) and acting out (r=-30). However, this hypothesis needs to be tested with larger samples.
