Impact of TAT Card Selection on Evaluation of Object Relations Functioning Following Childhood Physical Abuse

Grissett, Dana L. 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to show principles of TAT card pull are applicable to object relations theory, and card pull effects are greater in subjects with greater impairments. Stories of physically abused and control child and adolescent subjects were evaluated on object relations scales of the SCORS (Westen et al., 1985). Scores varied systematically as a function of card stimulus characteristics. Analysis of scales assessing internalization of self supported stimulus inhibition interpretation while scales measuring views of others or individual affective experiences advanced stimulus pull explanation. Abused individuals' response patterns were similar to controls except on CR. Results of this study may increase TAT utility for evaluating object relations functioning by guiding card selection.

[pt] O SENTIDO INDIZÍVEL EM PSICANÁLISE: TRAUMA E REGRESSÃO TERAPÊUTICA EM UMA PERSPECTIVA RELACIONAL / [en] THE UNUTTERABLE SENSE IN PSYCHOANALYSIS: TRAUMA AND THERAPEUTICAL REGRESSION WITHIN A RELATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

SOLANGE MARIA SERRANO FUCHS 06 October 2016 (has links)
[en] Trauma and regression are concepts that have always raised some debate and controversy in Psychoanalysis. Throughout the present thesis, the development of both will be analyzed in Freud s theories and also in some of the main authors on the early object relations, among which Donald Winnicott and Michael Balint stand out for improving the changes made in the analysis theory and techniques developed by Sàndor Ferenczi. The two enlarged in an inventive way the theoretical scope around certain clinical phenomena that bring about unique subject suffering. In this line of thought, this paper aims to associate some reflection to other fundamental concepts proposed by these authors; more specifically, the concepts of primary love and of basic fault in Balint, and those of holding and transitional phenomena in Winnicott. On this ground, it can be concluded that the clinical-theoretical thinking based on the relational model has enabled a better apprehension of the processes which are essential in the psychic constitution and in the various ways to take power over and elaborate on trauma, in which understanding of the analytical situation, as an unconscious common ground turns out to be relevant for the therapeutical process.

Intergroup relations in organisations

Wrogemann, Gail Cynthia 25 August 2009 (has links)
The problem statement of this research is, "What is the· basis of the intergroup relations that potentially lead to ineffective work behaviour, and how does it manifest in groups within a specific consulting organisation, in terms of the premises of the Tavistock model of group relations?" The psychodynamic approach, psychoanalytic technique, open systems theory and object relations theory were used. The unstructured interview and hermeneutic approach were used for collection of data, and analysis and interpretation. The results of the research indicate that groups, in interaction with other groups, may install defences against anxieties which could undermine the success of their work efforts .. Issues of ' . ' nonclarity of task, group boundary and identity issues, authority issues and reactions of projection seemed prevalent. Various hypotheses were developed which could be used as a basis for further research. / Industrial and Organisation Psychology / M.A. (Industrial Psychology)

Experiences of child psychiatric nurses : an ecosystemic study

Van Rooyen, Matthys Johannes 08 1900 (has links)
This dissertation reports on the lived experiences of four child psychiatric nurses. The territory of child psychiatric nursing is explored in this investigation through the punctuation of many voices within this field of study. The methodology of the investigation is descriptive phenomenology and Colaizzis’ steps in descriptive phenomenology (map) are used to discover and describe the different template theories (the territory) that are unique to each of the four child psychiatric nurses who were interviewed. Following this, a story is punctuated, which is referred to as the structural synthesis. It is the heartbeat of the investigation. The dissertation concludes by reflecting on the paradox of how the invisibility of the child psychiatric nurses allowed for the visibility of the dissertation and encourages the reader to ask pivotal questions about the important role of the child psychiatric nurse, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, in order to improve patient care. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical psychology)

Executive coaching in diversity from a systems psychodynamic perspective

Motsoaledi, Lerato Susan Pinky 12 1900 (has links)
This descriptive research addressed the challenges of working with the conscious and unconscious aspects of diversity in order to enhance insights into covert and deeper diversity dynamics in organisations. The research supported the evolving trend of shifting the systems psychodynamic orientation from the group to the individual context. The general aim was to describe a systems psychodynamic coaching model, and to determine its trustworthiness in assisting executives to work effectively with conscious and unconscious diversity dynamics. Literature was reviewed to provide a theoretical foundation of diversity challenges which executives face in South African organisations. This was augmented by systems psychodynamic literature, which provided a theoretical basis upon which to understand the intrapsychic aspects of the executives and their interplay with systemic dynamics. The empirical study was conducted over ten months to determine the trustworthiness of executive coaching in diversity from a systems psychodynamic perspective. Data was gathered using the organisational role analysis approach, and analysed by means of the systems psychodynamic discourse analysis method. Nine major themes and their related sub-themes were identified, namely, gender, race, ethnicity, authority, disability, language, age, de-authorisation of diversity work, and the coaching process. Through the coaching, the executives gained insights into their intrapsychic environment and the complex, multifaceted and intersecting nature of diversity in their organisations. They were assisted to take up their leadership roles more effectively and to take action on behalf of their organisations. The research hypothesis formulated and the conclusion made was that executive coaching from a systems psychodynamic perspective displays trustworthiness. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / D. The experience of the consultant as container in a group relations training event with specific reference to the Robben Island Diversity Experience (RIDE)

Smit, Madeleine 12 1900 (has links)
Consulting to the RIDE from a systems psychodynamic stance is different from other group relations training events. Consultants found it difficult to take up their roles as consultants and containers. They were not prepared for the impact of the island on the event and especially on themselves as consultants. The consultants had to work harder to contain their own feelings and anxieties in order to take up their roles. The symbolically laden setting of the RIDE predetermined that the diversities of race and gender were worked with while other diversities were largely ignored. During the RIDE, the consultants felt more anxious, fearful and inhibited. The consultants had to provide containment for the event as a whole, for the group and their fellow consultants as well as for themselves. The consultants found that they had never experienced a more enriching experience than they did with the RIDE. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M.Com. / Grounding in Bioenergetic Analysis. An update.

Weigand, Odila Quartim Barbosa 19 May 2005 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Odila Weigand.pdf: 1845061 bytes, checksum: ec8f3a6a9ad23bd2662db8fa5b42b0e2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-05-19 / The purpose of this study was to deepen and update the concept of grounding in Bioenergetic Analysis. This approach combines fundamental principles of psychoanalysis with direct work on the organism, seen from the viewpoint of its emotional, energetic and relational development. Both paradigms of psychoanalysis, pulsion and object-relations, were studied within the context of the historical development of Bioenergetics Analysis, in terms of their influence on the theory as well as on the practice. Brazilian Bioenergetic Analysis therapists have been building their own identity over the last 25 years. This should not be seen as a split from Alexander Lowen's ideas, as it actually means a differentiation born out of those therapists maturity. The integration of the object-relations paradigm, indicates the pathway for a model of psychotherapy which associates the construction of functional and integrative internal organizations with the phase, in psychotherapy, of dismantling repressive and defensive structures. In this study, a group of third-age women participated in Bioenergetics exercise classes for a period of four months. This research may be considered a social project with the objective of demonstrating an application of Bioenergetic Analysis that would preserve its healing potential, at the same time respecting the principles of intersubjectivity, of social inclusion, citizenship and ethics, and also that would be compatible with Brazilian social reality. The work with the group was conducted intending to create resources that might make possible for chronic primary defenses gradually to become unnecessary. Body work and level of excitation were adequated to the developmental level and physical possibilities of the participants. The changes observed in the group were verified by the subjective observation of the coordinators, as well as by verbal manifestations of participants, and by the analysis of the HTP test. In short, those verified changes were: improvement in vitality and flexibility, self-perception, social contact, increased maturity and ego strength, along with possible emergence of unconscious pulsional and traumatic contents.

Barreiras, refúgios, claustros: vias cruzadas numa travessia / Barriers, retreats, claustrum; crossed paths on a journey

No. of bitstreams: 1 Andrea de Davide Ratto Morelli.pdf: 720847 bytes, checksum: f67ae12322be10f9bae642d62c44bd21 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-03-15 / This study aims to gather information on some types of pathological organizations of the personality, using psychoanalytic knowledge. Several authors underlie it, starting with Sigmund Freud, Melanie Klein, Joan Riviere, Wilfred Bion, Herbert Rosenfeld, Hanna Segal and getting to John Steiner, Donald Meltzer, Frances Tustin, Judith Mitrani and James Grotstein, whose works in these areas are discussed more deeply. Efforts are made to understand and identify points of convergence, divergence and/or intersection among concepts like claustrum, psychic retreats, autistic capsules and adhesive pseudo-object relations. Discussion of the importance of continence and the development of schizo paranoid and depressive positions, permeate all the work and are fundamental to the approach of the clinical material presented. Analyst's psychic continence is questioned in face of difficulties as the claustrum seduction, attraction of adhesive pseudo-object relations, embarrassment of tenderness and struggles for dominate or exclusion of the analyst. Facing the difficulties of handling complex defensive systems, such as pathological organizations, confidence in the existence of unconscious need of psychic truth remains encouraging and cherishing, both to continue the trajectory of psychoanalytic exercise, and to achieve the needs of patients / Este estudo tem por objetivo recolher informações sobre alguns tipos de organizações patológicas da personalidade, utilizando conhecimentos psicanalíticos.
