Normal aging is associated with cerebral reorganisation which can be influenced by many factors. For example, the theory cognitive reserve (Stern, 2002) is trying to explain how those factors can have an impact on the reorganization. However, some factors, such as educational level, are known to have an impact on cognitive performance. The aim of this dissertation is to study the effect of educational level in cerebral oxygenation of healthy older adults during both phonologic and semantic verbal fluency tasks. Each task is divided into two criteria: more productive and less productive. Behavioural data showed that less educated elderly generate fewer words than more educated ones for both tasks. Moreover, the differences between the number of words for the more productive criterion and the less productive one are higher for the semantic than for the phonologic task. NIRS data showed that both groups activated prefrontal cortex, without difference between them. In addition, less educated participants tend to have bigger activations in the left hemisphere regardless of the task and the criterion. On the other hand, higher educated participants’ activations vary according to the task and the criterion unlike the HAROLD model’s predictions.

Social negotiations behind biosphere reserve Nedre Dalälven River LandscapeJakobsson Kangas, Jenny January 2017 (has links)
An academic contribution for the urgent work of sustainable development is to detect and analyze important factors of successful work for sustainability. This study explores the factors of social processes behind Sweden´s largest biosphere reserve, a model area for sustainable development, Nedre Dalälven River Landscape. The aim is to study underlying incentives in the establishment of a biosphere reserve to detect critical social factors in the initial work for sustainable development. Critical discourse analysis will serve as a theoretical point of departure but also as an analytical method since it connects external circumstances with individual perspectives. The data was collected through individual interviews, a group interview, participatory observations and document readings. Social negotiations in this study refer to individual needs, people´s relations as well as needs that concern organizational business relations. Information is collected as a combination of written sources, such as official documents and local papers articles, semi-structured interviews of individuals and a group interview. The result showed that the driving force behind becoming a biosphere, the local association NeDa, was important for the fellowship. NeDa was understood as public good and as working for the best of the community. The biosphere reserve was perceived as a confirmation of the capabilities of local people. The meaning of sustainable development was filled with local matters which enabled a biosphere reserve well established in the area. In conclusion, underlying social negotiations are critical for sustainable development locally.

Leleu, Kevin 30 March 2012 (has links)
The overexploitation of fishery resources has led to a major fisheries crisis. In this context, artisanal fisheries, and in particular small-scale coastal fisheries, appear as relevant alternatives for a sustainable use of coastal resources. But the diversity of fishing gears and targeted species diversity make it difficult to assess this important component of the commercial fishery. Hence, the activity of small-scale artisanal fishing remains poorly known in the Mediterranean Sea and few studies focus on an assessment of this activity at the scale of a Marine Protected Area (MPA). MPAs are yet more and more used as management tools for these fisheries, as protection effects and targeted access regulations may benefit to commercial fishers. As many MPAs are going to be established in the short term, it seems necessary for managers and for scientists, to have indicators to monitor the artisanal small-scale coastal fishing activity within an MPA, and to estimate the effects of MPA management on this activity. A field protocol was defined and implemented between July 2009 and June 2010 within the Parc Marin de la Côte Bleue (PMCB), a French Mediterranean MPA including two marine reserves of different age and size. The collected data allowed identifying seven main métiers within the PMCB, and characterizing them by group of target species, type of gear, fishing grounds and fishing periods. Fishing effort and catch were estimated. In the Côte Bleue area, 3 512 fishing trips and 4645 fishing operations were performed by 30 active boats during the studied period, for a total of 10 300 km of immersed nets.

Historie vegetace Chebské pánve ze sedimentárního záznamu lokality SOOS / History of vegetational development in the Cheb basin from sedimentary record of the SOOS National Nature ReserveSuda, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
Vegetation development in the Cheb basin ( W Czech Republic) recorded in the sediments of the SOOS ational ature Reserve This thesis focuses on palaeoecological research of quaternary sediments in the Soos National Nature Reserve (Cheb basin, NW Czech Republic). Quaternary history of this locality is poorly known, despite it is a valuable and protected area with high natural qualities. The Soos basin is also known for its unique geological record, which is expected to cover information on landscape dynamics at least during the Holocene. A lake existed in the Soos basin enabling accumulation of diatomite and peat sediments of a broad palaeoecological potential. Records were analysed with method of pollen analysis and were dated using 14C. The results of this study bring information about vegetation development in the area of Cheb basin as well as development of lake ecosystem. It also gives a new insight on lake's origin and its age. The accumulation of peat sediments started in the Preboreal period and was continuous at least until the Atlantic following with a hiatus, therefore further detection of vegetation development is impossible. The beginning of diatomite accumulation, as well as the existence of the lake goes back to the Bølling interstadial, according to radiocarbon dating. However, this...

壓力測試-利率下降對保單責任準備金之影響 / An investigation on stress testing - the effect of law interest rates on liability reserves梁皓緯, Liang, Hao-Wei Unknown Date (has links)

Making maps speak: the The'wá:lí Community Digital Mapping ProjectTrimble, Sabina 09 September 2016 (has links)
The The’wá:lí Community Digital Mapping Project is a collaborative, scholarly project for which the final product is a digital, layered map of the reserve and traditional lands of the Stó:lō (Xwélmexw) community of The’wá:lí (Soowahlie First Nation). The map, containing over 110 sites and stretching from Bellingham Bay, Washington in the west to Chilliwack Lake, B.C. in the east, is hyperlinked with audio, visual and textual media that tell stories about places of importance to this community. The map is intended to give voice to many different senses of and claims to place, and their intersections, in the The’wá:lí environment, while also exploring the histories of how these places and their meanings have changed over time. It expresses many, often conflicting, ways of understanding the land and waterways in this environment, and presents an alternative to the popular, colonial narrative of the settlement of the Fraser Valley. Thus, the map, intended ultimately for The’wá:lí’s use, is also meant to engage a local, non-Indigenous audience, challenging them to rethink their perceptions about where they live and about the peoples with whom they share their histories and land. The essay that follows is a discussion of the relationship-building, research, writing and map-building processes that have produced the The’wá:lí Community Digital Map. / Graduate / 2017-08-21 / 0740 / 0509 / 0366 / sabinatrimble@gmail.com

Měnová poltika americké centrální banky a její vliv na vývoj americké ekonomiky / Monetary policy of the U.S. central bank and its impact on U.S. economyPozděchová, Lenka January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is monetary policy of the Federal Reserve during the global financial crisis and its impact on the U.S. economy. Intensively carried out the financial crisis in 2007 - 2009. At that time, the Fed has created several tools to support liquidity of depository institutions and primary dealers, which are represented mainly by investment banks and other businesses, such as money market funds. The balance sheet of the central bank has fundamentally transformed. Securities accepted in open market operations have expanded and amount of the balance sheet has increased several times. Operations that change size of liabilities and composition of assets are called quantitative easing. After the interventions of the U.S. central bank the financial markets stabilized and Fed set aside some of the new tools. From December 2007 to June 2009 was the U.S. economy officially in recession. Since then has economic activity been growing but only very slowly.

Through cooperation the association shall function” : A qualitative interview study about the Biosphere Reserve Eastern Vätterbranterna and their cooperation with community actors to reach the sustainable development goals in Agenda 2030.Engman, Beatrice January 2019 (has links)
The geographical area Eastern Vätterbranterna has since its initiation as a biosphere reserve according to UNESCO's appointment in 2012 worked towards being a model area in which sustainable development can evolve. This has been done from five sustainability perspectives: the ecological, social, economic, the perspective with broad cooperation and the learning perspective. In 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted Agenda 2030 with its seventeen global sustainability goals and associated 169 sub-goals, which the biosphere association Eastern Vätterbranterna then woven into its work. This qualitative interview study has, with the focus on the biosphere association's seven active focus areas, investigated the biosphere association of Östra Vätterbranternas work with Agenda 2030 in collaboration with the Municipality of Jönköpings and its County Government, within the association, and other community actors. Cooperation has stood as a constant point through both interviews and through one of the questions of issue, conclusions can be established that the Östra Vätterbranterna had served to perform better cooperation within themselves. The Municipality of Jönköping and its County Government looks up to the biosphere association's work with Agenda 2030 and raises collaboration between them as a major success factor, but cooperation between the focus areas in the biosphere association has not achieved its full potential. Furthermore, not all of Agenda 2030's global sustainability goals have been included, but it is something that the biosphere association is constantly working on, which continues to develop all the time, and which can be achieved with the help of other community actors. Cooperation is the concept Agenda 2030 advocates for to achieve the goals and the concept that permeates the biosphere association Eastern Vätterbranterna.

Transformation of the myth and the myth of transformation: over 100 years of guiding in South African game reservesPaton, Anthony James 02 September 2008 (has links)
This is both a critical history of the nature guiding industry in South Africa from 1902-
2007 and a subjective critique of the practical components of contemporary natureguiding.
It focuses particulary on guides operating on foot in “Big Five” (dangerous
game) areas. The early history and the subsequent development of “wilderness” trails
in the Kruger National Park and the histories of KwaZulu-Natal Parks and Madikwe
Game Reserve are examined. The influences of the Field Guides’ Association of
Southern Africa (FGASA) and the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Education and
Training Authority (THETA) are discussed. Transformation of the industry (in both
the demographic and in the broader sense) faces language, cultural and ethical challenges
because of prevailing anthropocentric and militaristic norms. Nature guides need
improved communication skills and should balance traditional and progressive skills and
ethics. They should become more critical and proactive in determining the style and
content of their industry
